I am not entirely certain if this is a bug or not.
I post here in order to give everyone a heads up on the current behavior.
If you are a 1/2 Alignment (Vigilante/Rogue), and in the middle of a Signature Arc, when you travel to the other side the Arc breaks without any warning.
Example:
As a Rogue, I started the redside Signature Arc.
After the first mission, I realized that I had things to do that would take me away from the computer for long enough to auto-logout.
I went back to the day job I was working on on the blueside, via RWZ.
As soon as I entered Atlas Park, my level reverted to 50 and I no longer had the Arc mission.
It did not return when I logged back in and went back redside. -
First, my suggestion to kill NCSoft Launcher in Task manager isn't because I thought it was running while you were playing. Many people noted the Launcher was running a separate process that was screwing up the works. And making sure there were no running instances cured them.
Next, I am plum out of ideas.
The only thing you haven't tried that I can think of helping others is to delete the "addcache.xml" file in your CoH directory, but that should have taken care of itself when you uninstalled and reinstalled...
Finally, if you are feeling adventurous, you could try what this post says, and see if that works. (I tired it, and didn't have the setting mentioned, but I am also not having trouble logging in.)
And a last ditch, shot in the dark, effort... In the Launcher, under File > Settings > Advanced, is the region properly set? And even if it is, try the other setting?
And that is the total of my ideas in this area, other than a clean OS install... -
There is a potential for a NCSoft Launcher shake up for Windows 8.
.NET is to Windows as the floppy drive was to Apple.
I'd like this to be the spur that NCSoft will use to make a true cross platform launcher...
But I bet they will try to ride out the desktop remains of Windows 8+. -
Quote:NOTE: I am not trying to suggest Snow Globe likes this method (unless his/her opinion changed, s/he does not).To get a list of your unlocks you can use the /mypurchases command.
This is clumsy at best.
I tried it, for yucks. Primarily so that I could know what the output was like when talking to others about it.
First it is quasi-character based. Meaning there will (likely) be slight variations between the characters you use it on. (It lists Account Item rewards, and if you have claimed it yet.)
Also, perhaps worse, it the repeat of item names with different codes. I am not sure if this is a bug, or if they actually represent different items.
Example:

So, there really needs to be a better way... But /mypurchases is the only way we have at the moment. -
It is my fault, sort of. I was on the Beta server when warden_de_dios first asked about this. I thought it looked like a purple version of the "paper doll" you make a character with, and called it such in Beta chat.

Quote:I dunno about Plainguy...You're saying you had two missions you accepted before the I21 update, but didn't run until after, where things got scrambled? This is a known bug, and happens with every update where they add new enemy groups.
But I have had paper missions send me after NO_NAME_BOSSes before. And these weren't before-after update missions either.
It was never troublesome enough for me to follow up on it because the mission worked fairly well. -
I do not know if the purchased respec requires you to visit the respec trainer or not...
But if it does, you should get a green message in your chat menu telling you if you have to visit someone, and who they are. -
First you can drag them around the screen.
Second, you can disable them in you options menu. (You can still get to them from your game menu, if you want.) Although, less than VIP status can't hide the store button - if that is your plan.
Menu > Options > General Tab > Prompts section > near the bottom:
Hide Paragon Rewards button
Hide Paragon Market button -

Quote:Seeing as how Todogut asked for an option to just turn off alphabetical sorting the Devs do not have to get involved in the optional sorting in any way."Visual theme of the icons" seems pretty subjective. I don't really see how the Devs could sort stuff based upon your (or anyone else's) subjective considerations.
Quote for reference:
Quote:Can an option be added to salvage racks (and other storage containers) to turn off alphabetical sorting? So that the player can sort the contents however he or she likes? (Like before.)
Pretty handy request, wasn't it? -
No, that isn't the current driver. And I am reluctant to suggest upgrading to the current driver since the current drivers do not play nice with CoH - especially on a 64 bit Windows system....
IF you (Dark Inferno) are wanting to change drivers, I'd recommend these right here.
If you are a bit more adventurous, you could try the newest drivers.
In the end, it ends up being a crap shot either way. And may result in you having to unload and reload different versions of drivers to find your "sweet spot." -

I believe that this is the source of many, if not most, complaints.
It is the "how did it get out the doors in this state?" perspective.
Sure, *I* know that localized testing hardly ever equals "in the wild testing." Particularly when discussing software that is potentially changing hardware (until told otherwise, I'll always assume the Beta server is not identical to the Test server and that the Test server is not identical to the Live servers).
But, as a whole, we - as a species - are groomed to be uninformed consumers.
And even with that knowledge, I still have to wonder just how some things get through the testing process.
So I sympathize with the frustrated. And I accept that there is nothing that can be posted by anyone other than a developer or community rep that can improve moods. And try - but often fail - to not make the situation worse. -
I saw something in another thread... Forget which one right now. (I can look it up if it will help.)
Are you an EU player that transferred to a US account/server? An EU player reported that today. -
I am going to guess this is a side effect of MARTy. Completely unfounded, but there it is.

Dark Energon, here are a handful of semi-random suggestions for you:
- Check the free space on your disk. Some have reported the NCSoft Launcher not handling too little disk space properly. Since the patch is 2.5 gigs, you will want a minimum of 5 gigs free space, with 7 to 10 being safer.
- Do not assume you have the space. Actually check. (Simplest way is to right click on the drive in Windows Explorer, and select "Properties." The window that pops up should have the information right about in the middle of it.)
- You might need something like SpaceMonger to help you track down the worst offenders of disk space.
- Do you have your launcher set to start at Windows start up? Try disabling that if you do. (From the Launcher window select "File" > "Settings" and uncheck "Automatically run the Launcher on Windows startup.") A few have reported that fixing their Launcher weirdness. This setting won't take affect until you reboot (see next).
- Try a "cold boot." Instead of selecting Restart for you computer, have it Shutdown instead. After it has completely powered down, let it sit quietly for a minimum of 10 seconds. If you can spare it, letting it sit for 30 seconds to a minute might be better. You can let it sit powered down longer if you want, but it probably won't provide any benefit.
- Try deleting the "addcache.xml" file in your City of Heroes folder. Some connection issues have been resolved by this, although none that I know of are patch downloading issues.
- Consider a clean install of CoH, and/or your OS. I know, most people avoid this like the plague, and for pretty good reasons too. But if you have been running the same OS install for a while, and CoH for a year - and especially if longer - things might need a clean install. From what I have been reading, the Launcher and CoH have been changing how they handle several things. And while that is great for a new install, those changes can cause problems on long established systems. This guide from Microsoft should be a good place to start if you want to consider this.
G'luck. Many people aren't having problems, but those that do seem to have weird and very hard to track down problems. - Check the free space on your disk. Quote:I can only go by the article I read. (CNET)I have admit, the Texas fires have crossed my mind as a possibility, but what are the odds of the lag getting WORSE after the new issue release?
-
Quote:I've heard there have been server problems across the 'net the past day or two. One of the US states listed was Texas (home to the game servers). My game has become riddled with lag spikes for the last two days, when prior to i21, it only occured about once a week and that started after one of the "stability patches" from last month. Something is seriously wrong.
Might not be a CoH problem.
I personally have not seen bad lag except that poor excuse of an invasion on Exalted. -
Quote:You can use Paypal to buy one month's game time and not set up a subscription. However, not everyone has access with (or WANTS access with) Paypal.Quote:I have never used paypal for online games so didn't know it worked that way. Thanks for adding this info!
Last year, I spent my entire free month fighting with both to get my account unlocked because PayPal didn't trust the NCSoft billing and "tested" the request for payment.
Tracking down the source of the problem was a bunch of "it's not on our end, it's on the other end" finger pointing.
For what it is worth, it ended up not being PayPal for me. That doesn't necessarily hold true for everyone. -
Quote:You need any two lower level powers to be able to take tier 5 powers. What are the requirements as far as having lower tier powers from the same pool to open up the new 5th tier travel powers?
Example: Hover and Fly to get Afterburner.
Quote:For Long Range Teleport what does 'nearly any zone appropriate to their alignment' mean exactly? Co-op zones excluded? Hazard zones? Pocket D?
Not much. < 78mph without any flight speed increases in either Fly or Afterburner... Max of ~89mph with boosts to fly speed for Afterburner and Fly. In Beta it was 2 level 50 IO Flys in Afterburner, and 1 level 50 IO Fly in Fly. -
Actually, it should show the points started with. At least it does for me. There are four purchases of 400 points that equal my starting points of 1600. ((I haven't bought any points.))

Quote:I checked, and according to Intel, his processor handles 64 bit OSs.The main thing I would look at is if your CPU can do 64-bit instructions. A lot of them can, but if you got the CPU name, ask Google if it works.
Ultimus, do you have a second (or more) drive handy? If at all possible, either swapping drives and keeping your current OS drive aside for last minute stuff, or copying your OS drive if the spare isn't as good, is a good idea.
If not, try to remember all of the little things.
- Browser bookmarks. There is a way, somewhere, in every browser to export the bookmarks to import them into your newly installed version.
- Email address book, as McNum mentioned.
- Downloads.
- Documents.
- Pictures.
- Wallpapers.
- Anything you have stored on your desktop.
- Any other thing you want/need that isn't available any other way.
From my own experience of always forgetting something, I'd recommend backing up everything you can think of, and then double checking every night for a couple of days - if you have the time.
Now, for most people, RAM is RAM. The effort put into getting the best possible timings and such aren't worth the return.
As a general rule of thumb, get the fastest clock speed RAM you can for your motherboard. It may not run at that speed, but that is okay because RAM tends to be more stable at one speed point lower than it's max anyway.
Keep to the lowest number of memory sticks you can while maximizing your number of channels. Example: If you have dual channel, try to use only 2 sticks. If you have triple channel, try only using 3 sticks. The more sticks you use, the less stable the memory can be.
Those are just rules of thumbs. I am sure there are people that will swear they can break them - and I don't doubt it. But if you follow them as best you can, you maximize your enjoyment while minimizing hassle.
Now, if this is your mainboard (also called motherboard), you will want DDR2 1066 memory. Preferably in two sticks.
Such as this. That is just a quick suggestion. Don't feel married to it or anything.
And if you really wanted to break the 4 gig barrier, you would get another pair. -
Quote:I'm going to let you in on a little secret.Yes, the first loadingscreen does change to the new one when zoning before it switches to the zone specific one. However almost all of us who've made customs have used some type of highlighting technique for the loginpanel portion of the screen, which still shows when zoning, and looks kinda funny
.
I don't really care what the screen looks like, as long as it isn't eyeball melting bright white.
I'd be tickled pink if I could use the old CoV login in screen. But that seems but a dream, for now. It could be a blank black image, i don't care. I just have to get rid of the blinding white.
So, thank you for letting me know it can be done. :-D
Now for the PM I promised...
