Patch not downloading at all!!!!

I have been trying to patch the game since Tuesday 11am PDT.
1st it wouldn't stop downloading, and kept going even past 2800mb of the supposed 2511mb. Exited the launcher, opened it again, and it started at 0%.
Tried yesterday again, kept stopping, and restarting.
Today the same thing.. it froze up at 75% of 2511mb, and again, it rebooted to 0%!

What happened to the 100% download i had?
Why does it go back to 0%? even after i paused it several times, and it restarted at the percentage i paused it on.

WTF is this?

If i can't get on the game before Saturday, i want to be compensated for it.
Because this.. is utter BS!

Who should compensate you? Plenty of other people were able to patch, so it's not the game's fault.

Have you recently defragged the hard drive the game is installed on?

And again.. downloaded more than the patch said it would, and it froze. I'm scared to close it and open the launcher again.

And gob, please go troll somewhere else, thank you.

Yup.. again.
Download froze after downloading more than the amount it should have.
So i 'paused' it, closed the launcher, opened it again.. and guess what?

The download started at 0%.. AGAIN!!!!

<BLEEP> THIS!!!

I have been f'd outta playing time i have paid for.. and it seems this will only continue!

First, I don't see DarkGob's post as trolling, he did ask a valid question about defragging your harddrive. I don't know that it would help, but there's no harm in trying that.

Second, take a deep breath. I know you're frustrated, but raging never helps, and frequently only makes things worse as the people that -could- help you would be less inclined to do so.

Third, have you opened a support ticket with NCSoft support to get help troubleshooting your problem? This is the first I've seen of anyone having a problem like you're having, so that would indicate that it's probably something on your system that needs to be changed. If you're looking for compensation, they would also be the people to ask, not anyone on the forums (devs and community reps do not handle billing).

Also, a polite post in the Technical help forums, following the posting guidelines with the information needed about your system may get you some faster troubleshooting and help from technically inclined players.

The reason i told him to go somewhere else, is because i know him from other threads, in which he did not add anything useful, instead just try to start something.

I have never had any issues updating a patch, the only thing i can think off...
I have recently installed the Beta and Test servers.. and they want to update and such too. I try to pause it, but my main game still is affected by it, and just freezes up while downloading.

And i'll see what tech says, cus this is getting to the point that i just want to delete the whole thing.

Try both the tech forum and a support ticket...as long as you keep calm the support forum should be the faster route, we have plenty of technically inclined players that can help with the right information about your system. NCSoft support seems to be a little swamped in the past few days, so might take a bit to get back to you.

Calm down.

I notice you didn't answer my question, if your hard drive is seriously fragmented that might be causing problems with the patch downloading/installing properly. Opening a support ticket is also a good idea. Given all the problems that I21 has wrought there could be something going on you're not aware of.

Hope this helps, and maybe next time try posting questions calmy and nicely and you won't be "trolled".

Dark Energon, here are a handful of semi-random suggestions for you:

  • Check the free space on your disk. Some have reported the NCSoft Launcher not handling too little disk space properly. Since the patch is 2.5 gigs, you will want a minimum of 5 gigs free space, with 7 to 10 being safer.
    • Do not assume you have the space. Actually check. (Simplest way is to right click on the drive in Windows Explorer, and select "Properties." The window that pops up should have the information right about in the middle of it.)
    • You might need something like SpaceMonger to help you track down the worst offenders of disk space.
  • Do you have your launcher set to start at Windows start up? Try disabling that if you do. (From the Launcher window select "File" > "Settings" and uncheck "Automatically run the Launcher on Windows startup.") A few have reported that fixing their Launcher weirdness. This setting won't take affect until you reboot (see next).
  • Try a "cold boot." Instead of selecting Restart for you computer, have it Shutdown instead. After it has completely powered down, let it sit quietly for a minimum of 10 seconds. If you can spare it, letting it sit for 30 seconds to a minute might be better. You can let it sit powered down longer if you want, but it probably won't provide any benefit.
  • Try deleting the "addcache.xml" file in your City of Heroes folder. Some connection issues have been resolved by this, although none that I know of are patch downloading issues.
  • Consider a clean install of CoH, and/or your OS. I know, most people avoid this like the plague, and for pretty good reasons too. But if you have been running the same OS install for a while, and CoH for a year - and especially if longer - things might need a clean install. From what I have been reading, the Launcher and CoH have been changing how they handle several things. And while that is great for a new install, those changes can cause problems on long established systems. This guide from Microsoft should be a good place to start if you want to consider this.

G'luck. Many people aren't having problems, but those that do seem to have weird and very hard to track down problems.

1) I have about 15GB of free space on my HD
2) I do not have it set up that way, i have to manually start it.
3) I didn't know this would help with downloading, but i'll try it one day.
4) Thnx for the tip
5) And yes, last night i was thinking about doing a new install. I have several CoX disks, incl Going Rouge. Even tho the download will be way bigger, mayb that would help with the issue.

As of now, after several times dl'ing more than the patch said it would, freezing up while dl'ing and/or dl being rebooted to 0%, i think it's working.
Left it overnight, and the launcher had to restart. Upon restart my heart sunk, cus i saw again the 2511mb download being started, but after a few seconds it went to the patch version.

Now it's downloading the 592mb patch.. i just hope that this will work as supposed... if not, i can try steps 3, 4 and 5 if needed.

Thnx again for the info.
