I'm not sure how you check names on a server you have no free slots on, best I've come up with is to getglobalname ingame which will work unless char name = globalname for somebody offline, I have checked these, but not in the creator.
For the third one, "Major Player" (in bridge and a few other games, spades and hearts are the majors as they score more than clubs/diamonds).
or "Only card I need" tied to spades
or "Faceless suit" with a suitable ex corporate background
As to one of the suggestions here I'd suggest you Google "Pocket rocket" to see why it will potentially get you into some hot water if you don't know. I had this discussion with support a long time ago and in the end got the name back as it was deemed that as a fortysomething man from the UK I couldn't have known why it's vaguely dodgy in the US and that clearly wasn't the theme of the toon. -

Quote:I saw a large rotating turret with a 12' gun barrelAm I the only one who read that and immediately envisioned Noble Savage making a loud happy noise right before sketching a fish tank aquarium (3/4 full and sloshing water) with some terrified fish darting around inside of it on the back of a CoH character silhouette in 12 seconds flat?

As somebody who's played more or less since launch, my sister mentioned to me recently that my nephew (aged 13) was being asked by his friends to play another MMO (you know, the big one we can't talk about, rhymes with cow).
I thought about the 2 communities and recommended he tried CoH instead as a gentler intro to MMOs. Today he played his first session with me having acquired a free account and seems to be enjoying it so far. Talk of a month's subscription for the summer and free play during the school year is in the air.
We haven't teamed with anybody else yet, but I'm sure that's not far away. -

Quote:IF you retained a functional toon when you ran out of money for a month and went FTP before subbing again then fine. As you don't, I have a couple of friends who simply don't bother with IOs. When subbed, they want the second build for exemping, and respecing every time they unsub doesn't appeal. They're intentionally not using something that would make them more effective. Yeah, they're nerfing themselves, and to say they're not is just being dishonest ( Or showing that you don't know what the term means ). It's like saying a petless MM isn't nerfing himself by not taking pet powers. Yeah, it's possible to play without them and one can even be decently effective...but the difference between having them and not having them is rather dramatic.
And don't go through the whole IO licence thing, that conversation has been done to death, the absences are unplanned and points are rarely banked and ready, if they don't have the cash for a sub, they don't for the licence. Also you get screwed on the exchange rate for small transactions if dollars are not your home currency, so buying a few points is horrible and they can't afford a lot. -
Quote:But people do. Palladium (the company that does RIFTS P&P RPG) used to do a (exact numbers may be different but this was the sense of it) "you give us $15, we give you $20 worth of random goodies" some of which could be unobtainable otherwise as a Christmas promo every year and they were always oversubscribed.I do not go into a shop to buy something and get told I have to buy a lucky-dip bag to get the items I specifically want. That DOES NOT HAPPEN. So why the almighty smeg is it happening here? After there was ALREADY a load of outcry against this stuff the first time around?
Not cool, guys, NOT cool. -
Would have like to have seen that, we chose our roles, started the event, did the first phase, sidebar changed to "defeat 20 goons", no goons, no indication of how we got goons, no ability for any of us to progress, had to quit.

Rad/energy would have a load of knockback which might irritate your team mate.
Rad/rad is OK, but would not be my preferred combination. I would consider going with either ice (for great ST damage and a bit of control) or one of the weapon sets with a crashless nuke. The reason for suggesting this is that rad depends on toggles, so a standard (endurance eating) nuke is not good, but rain of arrows or full auto type ones are. -
Another issue is with foreign language words, 2 examples.
Sith - Obvious Lucas connections, but in fact sith is the Scots gaelic version of the better known Irish sidhe meaning faerie.
Persil - French for parsley, but a trade name elsewhere.
There were some genericings of both of these in the past, my suspicion is that they may have looked at costumes and backgrounds for sith. -
Strange, it's taken me this long to realise the US and UK have mother's day on completely different days, ours was in March.
Happy mothers' day to all american mothers. -
The cure used to be running out of slots (my main account has over 200 toons on it).
Now, until new powersets or proliferation, I've basically done all the toons I want to do, so I very rarely create alts other than for the prestige bonus if I start a SG on one of the new servers (like the old EU ones or exalted). -
Quote:Err no, most of the DA guys are there to help you fight, scirocco, dream doctor, ajax, protean etc are certainly not all normal humans.Considering that most of those NPC's are supposed to be normal people it makes RP sense that they can't run as fat as a super hero/villain. We are playing Meta Humans. We are vastly stronger, and faster than the average human so of course we can easily outdistance them.
And before anyone complains about not wanting RP in the game, this is an MMORPG. If you are gonna play an RPG your going to encounter RP in the game mechanics. -
The new dark astoria has its own exploration badges and TP beacon.

Quote:Sorry Arcanaville, there are lots of people who hate KB but do play these sets, so counter examples are plentiful.I like KB and my favorite ice cream is mint chocolate chip. Are you saying that since you hate KB and you play characters with a lot of KB that you believe most people who hate KB play characters with lots of KB anyway, or are you saying most don't but you're an exception, or are you saying you believe that somewhere among the words I've typed I said that there exist no players that hate KB and play any character that has a lot of knockback, and you are attempting to provide a counter-example?
My second 50 was an energy/energy blaster which is where I learned to use KB properly, I've played FF several times without taking any of the KBs, storm without hurricane/tornado but with the storm, claws without shockwave, WS (human) and PB (forms) with all the KBs. I've played SS and ElM many times without getting the clap
We just choose to either solo our KB toons, or not take/use many of the powers on teams.
I'm playing a dark/ blaster at the moment and wrestling with how I use the torrent. -
Quote:How little do you understand this game. If somebody handclaps so that my already fired rain of arrows hits 1 targets instead of 10, that's a very significant drop in my efficiency, it also means that my subsequent AoEs will hit 2 targets instead of 5-10 if the badguys don't close back to melee. In seriousness, it's not a big deal. If you're on a team where someone is getting disgruntled because your powers knock enemies away and OH GOD THEY HAVE TO RUN AN EXTRA 10 FEET OR OH NO MY AOE ATTACK DOESN'T HIT HIM AND MY PERFORMANCE IS SUFFERING BY 3.87% OUR TEAM IS DOOOOOOMED!!! then you should probably not team with that person. If you are that person, well congrats, there will be ever so slightly less knockback in your life. There aren't going to be security checkpoints set up at every mission door with the Knockback Protection Agency standing outside verifying that you have a single enhancement that works in a single power either way, so it matters very little.
Nobody is going to complain about a 3% drop in efficiency, but when you're reducing 2 or 3 characters by 60%+ surely the KB user should realise this, but they very rarely do. It doesn't help that often the powers with the huge radial KB don't do much damage, I've less complaint when they do.
Arcanaville's argument about KD being better than KB being similar to hold is better than immob is fallacious, hold/immob are different effects. Doing 20 damage is rarely better than doing 200, mag 0.7 KB is usually better than mag 7, that's the difference. I've always thought that KB and KD should be different (low mag KB can still be KD) but this would allow some attacks to have high mag KD meaning they can't be prevented by low mag protection but will never knock back. -
Quote:I agree to an extent with this post, but since I've seen 2 really good KB users and thousands of bad ones in my time in CoH, I think the devs really need to cater for the large majority. And, of course, the assumption for knockback is always "all over creation" and never "wielded like a scalpel". This first is a player problem, the second is an art.
Just like an incompetent herder gets the team killed, and a great one maximises AoE damage, a bad knockback user makes things needlessly difficult, while a good one makes sure than no one gets close enough to the squishy types to melee them, or does trickshots on runners to have them land just where it'll hurt them most in another second.
And frankly, I've got more defeats that can be attributed to a bad herder than knockback. The number is 15, more than that and they spill over to the rest of us. And stop running all over the place, the enemy group is right there all bundled up already, just make them point away from us and let the AoE carnage happen.
I'd much rather have a Storm Summoner that has mastered knockback on the team than a Brute who thinks he's soloing. A Master Storm Summoner is one of the most awesome spectacles in the game. I wish I was that good with Storm... Maybe when Water Blast arrives, I'll try another Stormer.
Hurriherding (with TK as a backup on a mind/storm) is an amazing thing to watch when done well, but on an open plan map a stormie can be a nightmare.
I applaud this IO. -
KB is not "t3h 3v1l" the problem is people who are inconsiderate or lazy using it. I'm lazy in a different way, and tend not to use it as I prefer not to have to do all the additional movement necessary to use it well, but I have a real problem with stormies as hurricane graphics (only power to do this) make me puke if I'm in them and lots of KB on the target I'm fighting tends to give me a headache when I'm playing melee toons, so while I don't kick stormies on sight, I do point this out and sometimes they or I leave the team. The storm elemental lore pets I'm having real issues with atm.
The IO is interesting, and I may well use it. I will never insist on other people using it, but if somebody is slowing the team down by scattering badguys out of all the other team AoEs, I will react as I do now if I'm leading the team, and send them a tell. -
Assault rifle blaster, but to know why requires knowledge of a bad old joke that would get me banned if I repeated it.

For a tank, on my second account which I was intending to take F2P I rolled an Ice armor/elec melee tank. This is VERY playable on just SOs although you will suffer badly for lack of endurance till the late 20s.

Quote:Also from Norfolk.I'd say around here (Norfolk/Suffolk, England) quite good. What with all the films that have been made.
I asked my sister what I should buy my 13 year old nephew for his birthday. She said he was getting into DC stuff and could I buy him something from there.
I have several friends who buy lots of comics and graphic novels so plenty of interest that I can see. -
Have licensed to ill on vinyl, have no means of playing it.
Two MCs and one DJ
Same age as me too. -
No, it was ludicrously overpriced.
8 hour double XP is completely redundant, if I was interested in levelling something at ludicrous speed, it would hit 50 well within 8 hours at double XP.
It seems to be mainly an AE thing though, as you can't use patrol XP and hence the normal experienced power in AE.
I make do with the normal experienced power, I suppose I should do something with the 25% boosters I already have. -

I bought 24 and was still one costume piece short so bought another 12 and got it. I also got >1500 merits in the first 24. I had one pack where 4/5 rewards were merits. No doggie, not buying more of the old ones but will buy the new ones.
