Quote:Nah, he'll get to team with the FF/nrg def in praetoria. You know, the one straight outta AE with no shields (they're useless solo) and some great KB/repels.Quite true. Also I located this back long ago when we had a joke thread about Bud Light's Real Men of Genius:
Mr. Petless Wonder Mastermind
Bud Light Presents Real Men of Genius
(Real Men of Genius)
Today we salute you, Mr. Petless Wonder Mastermind.
(Mr. Petless Wonder Mastermind)
You've just rolled your new Mastermind and equipped it with weapons but not with its greatest asset, the pets!
(Pets are for wimps!)
Dual pistols, bow and arrows, laser rifles and coming soon; flaming whips! You feel that you are ready to face any foe with no pets!
(My weapons are shooting blanks!)
You're fully prepared to solo to level 50 since you will be never be welcome on any teams!
(Kick this giiiimmmmpppp off the team!)
So crack open an ice cold Bud Light, Mr. Petless Wonder Mastermind as you enter the Guiness book of records for most deaths in an MMORPG!
(Mr. Petless Wonder Mastermind!) -
Quote:Patience will do a lot. I decided to make a non purpled but fairly high end SS/shield brute. I managed to get things like the touch of deaths, red fortunes and many of the obliterations and makos by bidding low on some of my other toons and stockpiling the items as I levelled up. I think I paid more than 2M on only one of the 12 ToDs I slotted for example. That is true. I think this would have potential though to get a lot more people into IOs. I mean, I'm trying to get into it now but it seems pretty freaking hard until level 50. There just don't seem to be enough people selling recipes in the lower levels for you to actually be able to get what you want it seems. Then again maybe I'm just having trouble because I'm playing at such odd hours that I'm missing out on the high commerce hours.
Going for IOs at other than maximum level also helps, but sometimes they're just not available.
Just leave your bids in so they're working the high commerce hours even if you're not. -
This has been suggested many times before (sometimes by me). It would need safeguards (like you could only have one such bid) or the marketeers currently limited by their slots (and I am one of these) would hoover up even more of the goodies.

Quote:And he's at 85% to the energy damage too ? and the fire from the council ... The PB is to all but psiMy invuln.
He was built for toughness right from the start so he took the Fighting pool before the Fitness pool. He didn't get Stamina until around level 30.
And to CmA
Quote:To some extent you're correct, but a slotted out Dwarf only reaches a bit above 58% resistance without outside assistance. Still that's tougher than most tankers in Posi levels, even allowing for enhancements being degraded by exemping that far.
Now a PB teamed with several Blasters will cap out due to Cosmic Balance and a WS will with a group of Scrappers or Defenders. -
Somebody bought a nevermelting ice for 3M last night redside, unfortunately wasn't mine, the rest of last 5 was 1M and 2M. Half an hour later I had my stack at 20K each.

I want to be able to turn round, drop my pants and use my sonic attacks

Quote:TBF they were an hour late on the american times too (the US has changed clocks, so east coast is GMT-4 atm). The European City of Heroes servers will be offline for the implementation of a build on Wednesday 17th March 2010.
Start Time: 1PM GMT (14:00 Central European Time)
Expected Duration: 2 hours
Expected Finish Time: 3PM GMT (16:00 CET)
1:07pm GMT and no server shutdown.
On the plus side our updater finally got updated with a new message, the downside to this is that once again it is incorrect. -
Just a thought, but for all the low level TFs if you're exemping down on a large team, a fully slotted dwarf form PB will out tank almost any real tank. How many real tanks are at 85% resists on sister psyche for example.
I have a frankenslotted and well proc'd out forms only PB that excels at this. -
My advice on a tanker, get a secondary that stacks stuns with OG, so EM or SM would be my choices. I made a dark/axe which I deleted in the mid 30s. Remade it as a dark/stone which I much prefer except for the horrendous end use.

Quote:Actually potentially worse is the rescue Tina Raymond mish from Timothy R. It's normally OK, but if you get one or more spines wardens in the group guarding her, they can kill her before she's freed. When I first saw her she was on 1/10 hits last time I did this and couldn't save her.Saving Triggerhappy and General Grandpa from Nemesis in the Rikti Warzone.
What....simpleton thought of making them non rescuable? Pets you have to keep alive are the devil in pixel form, I tell you. Not to mention one of them is an old man with a pistol who will run up and punch Warhulks in the face! Not to mention Nemesis ambushes are large if anything but solo, and deal an ungoldy ammount of accurate AoE attacks.
I hate this mission. I hate it with a passion. -
Quote:Thaumator is a constructed word, presuambly from the same root as thaumaturgy (miracle working), thauma the greek word for miracle. I think it's quite a cool name. And a Thaumator is what exactly? It sounds like a device to regulate a furnace, or monitor the temperature of a turkey.
You think MY names suck. I looked at your signature, and most of the names I saw in there I thought were unoriginal, and well....sucked.
But, they are all names that were not taken when we tried them. And all 3 of the names I mentioned were my first attempt at naming the characters in question. And no matter what we may think of each others names...we are the only person known as that on whatever server they are on.
The problem arises when 600 people ALL want to be Firedude.
I absolutely despise the idea of being Firedude@Claws and Effect, because it's clunky and looks like crap. Also, the name on the screen is what people verbally address you as. Every time I saw that I would think: "Oh yay! Firedude at Claws and Effect is here to save us! Whatever would we do without Firedude at Claws and Effect?!"
There are a limited number of heroes in comics that share a name with another hero. The various members of the Green Lantern Corps comes to mind immediately. The thing there is, it is understood that the Green Lantern Corps is made up of representatives of different worlds across the galaxy, and they are all tied together through that. They aren't a completely random bunch of people that coincidentally all decided to call themselves Green Lantern.
Other characters are iconic because they are the ONLY one there is.
Which of these sounds like it would have more impact if you heard someone say it:
Oh, no! It's Batman!
-or-
Look out! It's one of the Batmen!
Criminals are afraid of Batman because of the mystery surrounding him. If there were guys named Batman on every street corner, there would be nothing special about him, so they wouldn't be any more afriad of him than your average police officer. It would have the effect of "Oh, another Batman? Anybody can be a Batman, no big deal, just shoot him and let's get outta here."
Unique names are what prevent you from being just another guy in tights and a cape. If I were committing a crime and was confronted by Mystic Lord, I might be a little apprehensive about it, wondering what this guy can do. If I were confronted by 9 guys ALL calling themselves Mystic Lord...I'd probably laugh at them and escape while they were arguing about who had the name first.
But I agree with most of the rest of the post. -
With invul, I'd go stone melee, and slot lots for end reduction.
Fault you get reasonably early and is a great tanking tool. Dark melee has no large AoE on any sort of decent timer. It does have some really nice survival tools though.
One thing to remember with all tanks, they will appear quite poor before you get SOs. Don't get disheartened that you can't tank huge groups at low level. Without buffing, few people can. Also don't skimp on attacks too badly, attacking things gets aggro for you. -
I have one which is slotted for concept and also fun to play.
My nrg/nrg blaster I wanted to slot up fairly cheaply in the early days of I9, so I bought lots of dam/rng HOs at 100K each and every ranged power has 2 in. Combined with boost range, this gets silly and he can snipe from the next county (and use his t2 from normal snipe range).
Apart from that my toons are slotted for efficiency. -
-
I just keybound the sync command to a key and pumped it a couple of times after zoning. I get it very occasionally now, but nothing like as bad as it used to be.
-
Was away for most of DXP, so just put a load of stuff up for sale in the buy for 1-2, craft for 1.5 sell for 20 type range and sold about 30 of them.

Taunt is a tool. Some sets benefit from it more than others.
The only time I suggest someone *really should* take taunt is if it's their first tank, or first time playing a specific set. See if they need it - or just like having it. If they can hold aggro without it, great. They can drop it if they want. Season to taste. I, personally, like having it and will tend to take it at some point on all my tanks. If someone else doesn't - their tank, their choice.
I have a lot of tanks as tank is my favourite AT. I often pick up taunt at 49 if I have a spare slot, but really whether I have it depends on which set I'm playing:
Fire/ (3 50s) - to taste, some of mine have it some don't
Ice/ (3 50s) - none of mine have it, aggro sticks like glue
Stone/ (2 50s) - lack of mobility means that both of mine have it, just makes life easier
WP/ (1) - my one has it, taunt aura just not good enough
Shield/ (1) - I think I took it at 49, not essential
I don't have a 50 invul or dark, but my dark is dark/stone, so the damage aura + fault seems to do the job. The only time I have ever missed taunt was on MoGd PPs which I was missing with my normal attacks where there wasn't an autohit taunt aura.
As for handling extra spawns, taunt hits 5, fireball hits a lot more, so I use the epic to try to take aggro on an extra spawn or run into it auras blazing. -
I went to one of the biggest beer festivals in Belgium and ##shock## drank beer. Most of it was around 11% so felt like double XP beer except that you lose the ability to do things at twice the normal rate.
-
Numina I can't sensibly do, do have a toon for manti though.
-
I thought there was a slash command for this, the problem is that you can't tell when they were last on, so are not sure you're removing the right people.
-
Inability to send offline invites or promotions for SG admin. Too many of my friends have left the game, I only have one account and am having to wait a week to get my toons into my own SG.
The difficulty slider needs to be put back in for TFs, I really miss being able to turn them up and some of the TFs spawn -2s at standard diff which KD throws all over the place.
My other major beef will be fixed in I17 by the emailing of items, which was the removal of the ability to dump stuff in coalitioned SG bases. -
Quote:AE does not give double XP except for dev's choice on standard rewards, which still works.I haven't personally confirmed it, but numerous people have said that the AE is not giving double XP. I'm guessing that particular "bug" is pretty low on the list of priorities right now.
As far as max XP - high level missions with lots of enemies on large maps are the tried and true method. For maximum fun combined with excellent XP, I'd stick with just getting on a team and running missions that are set at a high difficulty level. I'm sure there'll be TFs forming around the place, but they're level-locked to even-con enemies right now so they won't give as good XP as a normal mission team. -
"or you can get me pregnant and I keep the kid" - somebody who thought she was typing in the IM conversation rather than ingame.
"I can't till 11 when my husband goes out" - somewhat enhanced by the toon name of something like cutefluffybunny.
Somebody also after teaming with me, claimed to have spent the afternoon reaming with me which conjured up a different image. -
When my main comp was in dock, I played on one with 512Mb and that was soloable and the market would open up about 1/3 of the time without DCing, so 1Gb will definitely be playable.
