No proof that this is what's going on, but it fits the general pattern of quirky behavior of procs in the game.
IIRC back in the days before ED it was easy enough to stack group invis. When you did this, you became instantaneously visible, I suspect for the reason described.

A similar effect stopped them removing stacking clear minds.

    Boxing vs Kick

On a toon without KB protection, getting the 3 points from kinetic crash in the kick can help.

I actually slot and use boxing on several toons where it doesn't cost me a redraw, stone melee and fire melee typically where a fast attack helps my brute build fury. I will probably reconsider this in the light of the I18 fury changes and I19 freeing up 3 power picks with inherent fitness, although on a granite, you can't have too many attacks, so I do use it.

I agree with the point about kinetic combat using the proc. You'll be surprised how much added mitigation you get from that proc in both stone fists and boxing.

Also the mag 2 stun from boxing goes very well with the same from oppressive gloom.

    First 50?

Pattertoast's post amused me. Leaving aside the AE stupidities and doorsit farming which are not my thing, my fastest 50 is Friday afternoon to Sunday night (a team of us started a 2xXP weekend at level 1 and finished at 50 mainly doing TFs, about 38 hours play) and my slowest is upwards of 5 years.

If you want to rush a toon to 50 doing real content, I'd recommend a scrapper or brute. I found kat/SR solos well and can handle difficulty increases quite early (very early with I19 stamina). The key to this is that you can softcap melee def with just one application of divine avalanche from about level 17 onwards. Once you don't need DA, you can respec it out or make 2 builds, one with, one without. Run at +2x2 from fairly early.

Alternatively make an AoE toon like elec melee/shield and run on +1x5 no bosses or similar from late 20s on until you can eventually handle +2x8.

Actually this particular exploit works well enough that any toon can run the mission and level with stupid speed, you don't need a team and on some versions it's a positive disadvantage. This may be why you're not seeing the spam.

I'm somewhat upset that the mods haven't removed the main offending user's arcs and banned the user, they're sending out the wrong message about tolerating these despite knowing about this for at least 2 weeks (the exploit has been fixed on test or beta I believe for ages).
  5. Run at +4, takes away a lot of the downtime and makes it a bit of a challenge.

Tbf I tend to do this with freaks rather than skyraiders.
  6. Take a typical attack like a fire sword.

Is a melee attack, does fire/lethal, goes against the best of melee, fire and lethal defence.

Defensive sets split. Some major on the typed defenses (fire/lethal etc), like stone or ice armor, others like super reflexes or shield major on the positional defenses (melee/ranged etc).

All set bonuses will primarily buff either a typed defense or a positional defense, and give half that value to one of the other type. What you were doing was to use sets like touch of death, mako's bite and obliteration that majored on the positional defenses and only added half the value to the typed defense. I switched those to sets like kinetic combat and eradication that buffed the typed defences primarily.

What I would do is wait till I19 when stamina becomes inherent, giving you some spare picks.

What I did with my stoner was to also be able to deal with psionic stuff by taking and slotting rock armor, minerals, tough and weave, so I was competent out of granite, but that means you have to be very frugal with your slots.
  7. Unfortunately you don't seem to understand how typed and positional defence bonuses interact, and have slotted sets that primarily improve positional defence (melee/ranged/AoE) instead of typed defences (smashing/lethal/fire/cold etc). Try this for softcap to all types.

This is a minor modification to your build, it is not how I would design it. It should be an awful lot better for end use.

  8. I've been convinced for a long time that there are some circumstances in the game where the random number generator is either not called on to generate a new number, or it malfunctions.

I do understand at least to some extent that "random is random" and have some idea how to test this as I'm a final year statistics student IRL.

    My experiences include:

a lowbie where my best attack is the veteran sands of mu, so I use it whenever it's up, and it missed 34 times in a row against opponents with no serious amount of defence while the other attacks hit normally.

an afternoon where I went round the streakbreaker sequence of 3 misses/1 hit 6+ times in a row twice in successive missions when I suspect shouldn't do it twice in a lifetime (odds around 1 in 200 billion each time as my to-hit was in the mid to high 70s).

An occasion combining enhancements where I got 24 straight successes then 4 straight failures with success chances of 75/80/85%.

An occasion where I did a mission before you stopped getting high level TOs, and I got 8 TO/DOs, all end mods (which are pretty rare) of varying types and origins.

Random merit rolls, you seem to get the same recipe twice in a row more often than you'd expect. When somebody did the stats on the rarity project, it appears that this did happen more often than you'd expect, but not ridiculously so.
  9. Have a look at this thread: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...17#post3334117

I lost a load of stuff and got it restored, and make sure you /petition not /bug, nobody ever responds to bugs other than the standard "forwarded to QA" reply.

It seems quite a few people lost stuff.

edit: So it looks like I get the shaft since I can't recall exactly what was sent. I know a few of the sets but not the exact recipes. Approximatly a 1/2billion in recipes to be crafted. Kinetic Combats / Numina's / Obliterations / Erradications. YAY
Be patient, and check you've got the right email on your support page. Also they will refund the recipes to a toon of your choice which has space, so you can fix it via email. You don't need to know the exact recipes, merely the toons that sent them and approximately when. Also, be careful that they get the levels of the IOs right when they retrieve the info off the logs.

I lost 4 LotG + rechs and some other stuff including a 500M gleemail.

The same GM the OP spoke to fixed mine quickly and efficiently. I gained a little out of the transaction as I regained a (20M ish) recipe I'd claimed.

If I was a devious type, I'd leave a 3BN PvP IO in my email, and keep claiming it just before maint and reposting after, on the grounds that I'd get a spare if it rolled back ...

Oh, also, another thing: get rid of a +jump speed on Rooted, which is supposed to let you fall faster.
This not only does nothing for it, it also violates laws of physics established back in the Renaissance.
A heavier object that is no more aerodynamic than a lighter object WILL NOT FALL ANY FASTER.

Edit: Okay, so that normally applies to 'in-vacuum' scenarios, but I think by the point you get to the mass involved in stone armor, an object of same size but lighter weight would fall just as fast.

P.S. sorry about bringing a physics rant into a video game... It's just bugged me.
The one that irritates me is that pedestrians still push half a ton of granite around on the street, shouldn't happen.

As for the +jump speed, it's a problem with falling in general. I don't see why you should fall faster because you've got hurdle.

    Fine if you're a tank, it's 37 and 12 for a brute.

And as a tank you can survive most TFs out of granite as you have enough protection, as a brute compared to a shielder or WP for example you're IMHO significantly worse off.
  13. Stone armor suffers from the fact that until you get granite, if you want mez prot, you're hugely slow and this is combined with protection that is sub par compared to most of the other sets. This is particularly noticeable on a brute where you have to wait till 38 for granite, and you have nothing meaningful v psi/energy/neg till very late on.

I do actually like the set once it's complete, but levelling it to 32/38 is a pretty painful experience unless you have a SG full of buffers.
  14. DA/SM rocks, particularly if you softcap it for S/L defence also.

You will however not have a blue bar until you're IOd.

The main mitigation comes from the combo of OG/fault, and you may struggle early unless you get on big buff heavy teams.

Is one of my favourite tanks (I have a dozen 50 tanks and a number of others above 30) for use on teams.

I said it first) I read your post, I just did not understand that your friends fully I/O'd stone tanker was fully I/O'd with the best. In less than 6 months, very very nice.

Would our current group of marketeers consider this a possibility? Call it 5 purple sets (only 5 per, for efficiency), so 25 purples, and lets say 15 PvP I/Os, a couple procs, a global or 3, and never forget the 5 LOTG 7.5%, this stoner will need them. Do that in 6 months on the market and have 2 billion change left over. Is this possible?
Easy, I started with a clean server on Justice pre glee mail. In 2 months, I had a fully IOd (but not with purples) stalker, and all the goodies (5x5 and 1x4 purples, the pet set has different bonuses, 3 LotGs for the build and a couple of spares, miracle, numinas uniques, set of basilisks gazes etc) for my permadom to slot when he hit 50 and 3BN in the bank. It can be done easily, I'm making upwards of 1BN a week marketeering and if I did more of it I could make more. I can also easily knock out a PvP IO in just over a month now which I couldn't then, so that's an extra 3BN/month. That build didn't need the PvP IOs.
  17. I met him at a games con in Birmingham, nice guy, glad to hear that.

I don't tend to go nuts on the IOs, although I have a 7 billion ish permadom as my silly exception, and will be slotting a couple of PvP 3% defs that I've earned from A-merits.

I'm not a casual player, but I make >1BN/week on the market without spending an enormous amount of time at it crafting enhancements.

Any player can afford to IO toons with all the non purple non PvP IOs they want, if they want the uber stuff, it takes some work but can be afforded. I tend to organise TFs on the global channels, so tended to hit 50 hero side with around 1000 merits, that's a lot of random rolls and will finance most things. Nowadays I convert them to A-merits to add to 10 I earn, and create a PvP IO and sell it for multiple billions.
  19. AR/rad corruptor, oh no, that was the mob in the pacific.
  20. Will be next week or after thanksgiving, the semi official word is next week unless something show stopping comes up
  21. The devs got the A-merit price of purples wrong. This is pretty clear. They also got the price of the "non uber" PvP IOs wrong. Nobody that knows what they're doing is going to buy purples or the non special PvP IOs at the A-merit prices they've put them at.

What would happen if purples and the run of the mill PvP IOs were reduced to say 6 A-merits. It would still be cheaper to buy most purples by selling 6 A-merits worth of specifically bought IO recipes, but if you chose to spend your A-merits on purples it would not be ridiculous. 20 is just off the scale, hmm, I can spend 20 A-merits on a purple worth 400M or 30 on a PvP IO worth 2BN+ and buy several purples, no contest atm.
  22. How much do you need to start marketeering, basically nothing.

Take a level 1, level it to 10 in MA, at 10 cash in your tickets for bronze. More often than not, you will have a -KB or a res/def.

Buy rare set recipes from useless sets at level 50 from the AH and vendor them. This will get you your first million or so in a short while and give you the capital to list what you drop.

Sell the first expensive IO you get at a slightly lower prioce than you normally would for a quick sale, and you're up and running.
  23. You seem to have been much luckier than I have on the rolls, I've rolled 10 A-merits and given up as I was making only about 6-8 million average per IO, so 30-40 million per A-merit. I rolled no LotGs, miracles, numinas and one oblit quad was the best I got.

I cashed in 30 A-merits twice for level 10 Gladiator's armor 3% defs, and sold them for 4BN each. I also cashed in one A-merit for a kinetic combat D/E and sold it for 85M, so that also was more efficient for me.
