A Toon for Armistice Day: Help please

So I need your help.

I've had this toon on Defiant that I've played only a few times, but he's never been quite right.

Much of my honours degree related to the history of the US 8th AAF strategic bombing campaign over western Europe, and I christened this guy Flying Fortress as a tribute to those guys. I admire them greatly for the courage they showed in one of the toughest aerial arenas in history.

I've been wanting to re-visit him but I can't get the right AT for him. The uniform of an 8th AF flyer is very easy to replicate in the cossie creator - made even easier with the science pack!

But as a crew member of a B17 (or B24) - what AT would they be? Blaster isn't really appropriate even if that was the primary role of some of the gunners.

Today, 11/11 is a good day to remake him so please give me your suggestion as to what he should be and why you think that fits!

Cheers

Why do you think a blaster wouldn't be appropriate? They would, after all, have a sidearm at least.

If we could redo the minion uniforms, perhaps a merc. MM.

You could build off the "Fortress" part of the name and go with a Tanker. Inv or WP for the primary, not sure for a secondary; and Flight of course, as soon as you can.

A B17 or B24 bomber-themed character

Willpower Tank.

TANK When those things flew overhead, they drew every bit of aggro imaginable.

Primary: Willpower You needed nerves of steel to ride one of those into battle. Heck, just getting the beasts off the runway fully loaded could be a bladder-emptying experience.

Secondary: Your choice
Super Strength-- for the pounding they delt out.
Dark Melee-- for all the blackouts they caused when they appeared overhead.
Fire Melee- for the firestorm that followed.

I'd go with Chase here. A Flying Fortress themed character just screams Tank (or possibly Brute) to me.

From a British viewpoint I think Spitfire and Hurricane would make great names for a Scrapper Duo, you could even play the public perception of the planes into their personalities (Hurricane is older and more reliable but quiet in social situations, Spitfire is younger, more skilled and a lot more outgoing but a bit of a braggart).

Thanks for the feedback so far chaps

Memphis Bill with your name I'm glad you posted in this thread - but I don't see a huge formation of fortresses as being blasters, though technically they could be I suppose. But your merc point has given me an idea...

Flight is clearly part of the build, how could it not be?

WP does work - reading the accounts of their missions, Schweinfurt/Regensburg for example are simply heartbreaking and some groups suffered 60% losses there - they needed all the Willpower they could muster, but the primary is maybe lacking.

Lightning Rod might be the "awesome" damage that a toon like this needs? Roll in like thunder, draw all kinds of aggro and then blitz...

Here's an idea partly inspired by Bill: How about an Illusion troller - with a solid secondary to back it up (Force Field?) - it gives the impression of rolling in and blasting the zone with PA and then moving on, and the pets and fear would give it the "formation" effect whilst FF would give the benefits of running in formation? The Pets can be given the colour scheme of the 8th AF... PA can be olive drab and desert pink and the later pets could be bright aluminium to reflect the change in strategy.

As I understand it, the Flying Fortress was an impressive combination of both offense and defense. They carried heavy bomb loads, took massive punishment and brought their crews back home.

This suggests a brute to me - they're hardier than scrappers and inflict more damage than tankers.

For primaries, I think either Super Strength or Fiery Melee. SS just screams "bad@ss" and FM simulates the effects of bombardment. (think of Dresden)

For secondaries, I think either Inv or WP for the same reasons that others have mentioned. I'd also consider Shield Defense because it connotes the armor plating on the fuselage and increases your damage output with AAO.

Finally, you might also consider a scranker, either a tanker optimized for damage or a scrapper optimized for defense.

I know I'm a day late and a dollar short but I'd just like to throw this out there...

A Dual Pistols/Storm Corr or Defender. Why DP? The different ammo (representing diff payloads) and the aoe capability of the set. Combine that with the KB "shock and awe" ability of Storm.... Even for ancillary go Power Mastery for the 'toughness' of the crews.
