Can't you use the new swiss draw method to make it go quicker?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I certainly could Flea, but I believe Round-Robin to be the fairest way to conduct 1v1s. It gives gives a "paper" the chance to gather some points off some "rocks" instead of fighting "scissors" for a couple rounds, and then being eliminated for the rest of the tournament.

    That being said...

I do have to work at 4am the next morning and five hours of 1v1s would even push me to the limits.

So, I am open to letting the terminals run the show. Swiss Draw isn't that far from Round-Robin as far as fairness goes. I will ask the participants what they would prefer tomorrow.

Keep in mind, the terminal run Swiss Draws are still something of a mystery when it comes to figuring out how it determines the rankings. If we do end up doing a Swiss Draw, the top five players based on those rankings will be getting the prizes.
  2. Ice Knight brings us to 18 registrations (if I remember correctly, my list is at home.) So, if you know anyone that wants to particpate tell them to register as soon as they can because I am capping the number of participants at 20.

Chances are there will be one or two last minute cancellations though, so it would still be a good idea to show up around start time to see if any spots open up.

As a reminder, this event will take upwards of 5 hours so please do not join up if you can't commit that amount of time. I know it's a big time sink but that's the price you pay for some really good prizes (IMO.)

See you all tomorrow! GL HF!
  3. Hey all,

Here is the list of recipes @Southern has generously donated so villainside can enjoy some of the spoils as well.

    end//rech
    heal//rech

The prizing rules will stay the same only instead of picking one prize, the top five (from high score to low score) will pick one prize from heroside AND one villside.

With a maximum of 20 players (only 13 registered atm) that gives everyone at least a 1 in 4 chance of getting a prize! Those are good odds!

See you there on Saturday! GL HF!

    PvP Enhancements

I am wondering, do they not drop off of L1 characters or something? I'm going on 150 kills and nothing yet.

What is the level of the toon killing the level 1?
  5. Hey guys, good news!

@Southern has generously offered a bunch of villainside PVP recipes. I'll have a list in a few days.

Depending on what we end up with I'll prolly work out something like the top five pick one prize from heroside and one from villside.

So far we have 14 signed up, I expect we'll have the 20 by the time the event takes place.
  6. Agreed Mac.

Piggy, it's important for people to continue to voice their concerns to let the devs know they still have disatisfied customers and should do something about it.

If the constructive criticism dies off they are going to think everyone is happy with the changes.
  7. Hi all!

It's been awhile since my last PVP tournament so I've been saving up on prizes. Here it is:

    WHAT: 1v1 Round-Robin SHW (lvl 47-50) Tournament.
WHO: Anyone who would like to try their hand at PVP. All ATs are welcome but prizes are only available heroside so if a villain wins then a hero will need to log on for the prize.
    WHERE: Pocket D, Justice Server.
    WHEN: May 16th, 8pm EST (5pm PST)
WHY: To Promote PVP on Justice.

    RULES:

    1. This Tournament will be a Round-Robin format (meaning you will compete against every other participant once.)

    2. Scoring: Win = 2 Points, Draw = 1 point, Loss = 0.

    3. Only arena bought temporary powers and Tier 1 inspirations will be allowed.

    4. Matches will be 10 minutes in length. Random Maps. No resets. One disconnect per player per match allowed, more than one and you forfeit that match.

    5. No Travel Suppresion will be turned on for this event.

    6. No spawn camping allowed.

    7. I will be limiting the number of participants to 20 players so you can sign up ahead of time by posting here (@global AND toon name please) or message me in game @Mercury Down.

    8. The top five players (based on score) will each get to pick one of the prizes listed below. First place picks first, second place picks second, third place picks third etc...Ties will be decided by Sudden Death 1v1 matches.

PRIZES: (Note: All prizes are heroside. So villains will need to log on a hero to collect. Next one wil be vill-side prizes now that I have level 50s I promise Please note, unless otherwise stated, all recipes/IOs are level 50.)

    1. Panacea - Heal PVP Recipes (Complete Set)

    2. Gladiator's Javelin - Ranged PVP Recipes (Complete Set)

    3. Gladiator's Net - Hold PVP Recipes (Complete Set)

    4. Gladiator's Strike - Melee PVP IO's (Complete Set - 5 IOs at lvl50 and one Acc/Dam/End/Rech at lvl34.)

    5. Javelin Volley - Targeted AOE PVP Recipes (Complete Set)

Prizing will be done a little different this time...

There are five prizes and prizes will be picked based on scores. So the person with the highest score can pick one of any of the five prizes, then the person with the second highest score picks one of the any remaining four prizes, and so on until the top five players with the highest scores have picked the five prizes.

    BONUS PRIZE!

Following the completion of the Round Robin and Prize Picking I will be holding a 20 minute Free For All. The person with the highest kill count will win:

Shield Wall Unique - TP Protection/+3 Resist Recipe

*In the event of a tie in this event the tie will be broken by a 1v1 (or another FFA if more than 2 players tie) with the winner taking the prize.

    WARNING!

This event will take upwards of 5 hours to complete (based on max number of players of 20) so please be prepared to invest that amount of time.

Hope to see you there and GL HF!

    Merc.

    lol, forts

I've barely touched mine since I14 came out. Defense being a total joke, combined with the nerfed damage made them pretty pointless in my eyes.

Sure, you can kill noob squishies. So could a dark/dark corr.

What sucks is I had JUST spent a ton of money on my fort literally like 2 weeks before it was completely destroyed.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Forts are still a force to be reckoned with only now you have to work a little harder. If you honestly think they are garbage because of the tweaks to their damage and elusivity then it's not your Fort that's the problem, it's you.
  9. [ QUOTE ]
the key thing is this: movement is still king.

when you're running a defense armor, misses don't suppress your movement. hence you're deflecting damage and travel suppression.

i always noticed a huge gap in the survivability in zone of my fire/cold/mace as compared to my sonic/therm/mu. i respec'd the sonic/therm to /mace and the gap is gone. movement is key.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Travel Suppresion kicks in whenever anyone attacks you. It doesn't matter if the attack hits or misses.

Inv gets molested by psi all day

    [/ QUOTE ]

How do you figure that? Inv gets psi resistance in PVP now...

    [ QUOTE ]
It wasn't just elusivity that was nerfed but defense as well. I'm not sure on all the numbers but since i14 went live I hit defense based toons noticibly more often.

My accuracy on each attack is about 70% and I have about 75% global accuracy but I also have targeting drone plus the perception IO for the to hit buff. Same exact build as i13 but I hit much more often.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, I hd no idea that the perception IO gave a tohit buff. Thanks for that tidbit. That was exactly the kind of thing that I was looking for. I'll be sure to have it on my stalker. Got any idea how much the tohit buff on it is?

Is there someplace that I could figure out the PvP tohit formula and the defense numbers? I used to go by an old site by arcanaville. I have no idea if he's still playing CoH or if his forum posts are still up to date. I'm just returning to the game after being gone a year. I see that Red Tomax's site is still intact, but it doesn't have a lot of the info that I am looking for. Is this info being published somewhere?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Just to clarify a couple points made by Lucky666...

Defense was not nerfed in i14, elusivity was from 30% to 10% based on player based research (that number has not been confirmed by the devs as far as I know.) Elusivity is what made defense so good in i13. In its current state its not as terrible as people are saying but defense based toons are noticeably easier to hit (they still give a good run for the money in my experience.)

The perception IO does NOT give a +tohit bonus. The only thing it does is increase your perception.

    PvP Recipes

After working away in the arena last night I am beginning to think I may have been off a bit.

I have gotten four recipes in about 2 hours work and approximately 200 kills. The drop rate isn't consistent which agrees with the RNG, but they seem to be dropping more often than I thought they would be.

I am also wondering if some of them are more rare than others or if they all have the same chance of dropping.

    More testing is needed...

    PvP Recipes

One can certainly say you are lucky, but your experience is not the norm. I mean if it was the norm that would be happening to you all the time wouldn't it? If that happned to everyone then we would have no problem outfitting every character on all the servers with purples.

I seem to remember a post somewhere in the forums (probably the Market forum) tracking purple drops and the average number of defeated enemies per purple worked out to something like 1 in 2700. Which seems about right considering the amount of farming I have done on my fire/kin. That works out to about 3 hours farming if I did my math right.

Oddly enough, it took me just over 3 hours to get in the 300'ish kills in PVP before I got my first PVP recipe.

Hence my conclusion that they have this worked out to a similar average time investment as purple drops.

That's just my opinion but it is based on my experience combined with research others have done on purple drop rate. I am just making the comparision between PVP recipes and purples because of the desirability of both type of recipe.

    PvP Recipes

I finally got one last night. I am guestimating about 300 kills which is about what I was expecting.

1 in say 250->300 kills requires about the same time investment as 1 purple drop from my experience, which seems about spot on.
  16. Mercury_Down

    PvP Drops

I was goofing around in arena last night. 252 kills and no drop. I don't find that surprising but it will be interesting to see what the average number of kills turns out to be for a PVP recipe to drop.
  17. Yeah it's only the tanker, brute and scrapper that get - range.

They left it that way so melee would have a better chance against ranged attackers. If ranged attackers had access to -range in a taunt it would give them an unfair advantage.
  18. If you have Aid Self and PFF, and know what you are doing you are virtually unkillable.

If you have hibernoob then you have 90 seconds where you can be flattened in between hibers. That's not much of a window for a good player but it's more of a window than a PFF user is going to have.

Hibernoob is great but it's at a disadvantage to PFF if you've got aid self (and if you don't have aid self with PFF, why bother with it?)

That's in it's current form. i14? Hmm maybe not...

    elec/mm

Getting the opportunity to activate drain psyche isn't going to be as hard as you think. An elec/mm has two good tools to enable just such a thing: Tesla Cage and Telekinetic Thrust.

2 seconds is more than enough time to close in for Drain Psyche. That means all you need is your +acc and +tohit to work for you.

As far as damage is concerned it's still going to be on par with the other blaster primaries. With resists normalized across the board for squishies (as in base resits to all) you are looking at only a small number of powersets that will higher than normal energy resists (depending on Epic Armor choices, things like artic air, and or tough for squishies and certain melee builds.)

Elec/MM isn't going to be as good as elec/therm but it's still going to be good.
  20. All powers and descriptions can be found here:

    http://cov.redtomax.com/data/powers/

Keep in mind, elusivity is typed or positional according to the kind of defense power it is in. So Evasion would have AOE elusivity and doesn't stack with ranged or Melee elusivity or lethal, energy, etc...

There are very few defense powers with elusivity that can be stacked (ie: doms and trollers can do it involving PFF and epic armors)
  21. [ QUOTE ]
Agreed. "LRN2PVP" is fun, when used against somebody who has been there for awhile, but like I said, I pretended to be a complete n00b to PvP, just to see how I was treated....and I must say, my findings were exactly as I expected them to be. If I were to be completely new, and try it out for the first time, I would not have stuck around for half as long as I did, and I would not be returning.

    [/ QUOTE ]

In response to the bolded section...you were not pretending.
  22. [ QUOTE ][*] Global Chat Handle reset
All accounts initially start with the ability to change their global chat handle one time. This grant will reset that and allow accounts who had previously changed their global chat handle to do so again. This is a one time chat handle change, so please use it wisely.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Does this mean I am going to have to /gignore all the same RMT spammers I already have /gignored but will now be using a different global chat?
