  2. 1. Get to 50.
    2. Be a VIP.

OK, those should be "obvious," but I'm stating that anyway. (And yes, redundant with you saying you have a 50 tank.)

There are two ways for someone with no prior 50 to do this:
    1. Run Mender Ramiel's arc.

He's in Ouroboros. He has you running around on an arc which, at the end, will have Alpha unlocked and your first Incarnate Shard. (Shards are used to create components - but only those for the Alpha slot.)

    Or:
    2. Run Incarnate content.

Trials or Dark Astoria, doesn't matter - they'll award Incarnate XP (shortened to iXP typically) which will go first to Alpha, then to either "branch" of the Incarnate power tree. You'll see it split between Psychic and Physical.

Once it's unlocked (don't know about before, to be honest, I *think* you have to have alpha unlocked at least) you can get threads and merits from things like the SSAs (reward table at the end) and the Dark Astoria arcs. Spend them and some INF and you can push the progress on the slot unlocks - not the fastest, usually, but it works.

Personally, I use Mender Ramiel's arc. It's fast and soloable - if you're having trouble, turn down the difficulty. If you have Vanguard merits, grab a Nectambo's Curse breaker in the Vanguard zone before the mission from Lady Grey, you may need it. Every 50 I've had, even the squishies on SOs, has been able to solo this arc. And I tend to see burning iXP in trials for alpha to be... kind of a waste of it. *shrug*

Then do a mix of trials and solo content (as you want) to get the iXP and components for everything else.

After you have one unlocked, you can earn - don't recall if it was Astrals or Empyrian merits that are used for this - and "buy" an unlock for another 50 on the same account.
  3. Ahh, but madame mathematics, how do the costume pieces fit into that?

You are playing a game written and developed by someone else. It is that way with ANY game you play, unless
it is a table-top...even then you're running into the same issues. Your character exists in another person's universe.
It is not and never will be YOUR universe, so anything that "steps on your toes" needs to be gotten over.

    Period.
Actually, I don't get why people seem to think it's either-or. My Khelds, for instance, have their own backstories, their own RP, their own interactions - the Kheldian War storyline just happens to be running at the same time *also.*

It's kind of like being in IT. Yes, you go to work and work on systems (or code or whatnot.) On occasion you'll be called in to work on something that just came up and needs doing. But you also have a life outside that where you hang out with friends, drive to the store, pay bills, etc. They're not exclusive.

Heck, you can decide just how big of an impact you want it to have - the storyline's important to you, or you completely ignore it (or ignore it after your costume at level 10 if you're a veat,) or any mix in between.
  8. I am playing one. Actually, playing several.

Just recently (as in, in the last month or so) hit 50 - emp/psi. Also soloed DA with that one. Tub ci was an... interesting, inspiration-laden fight without a level shift.

    Two I'm focusing on:
Dark/Electric/Power at 43 or so right now. Older one I've just picked back up on.
Storm/Rad (which is an odd combination) at 25. Another fairly old one, but I've been serverhopping more and it caught my eye. Probably be slower, since I've already gotten storm and rad to 50 - just not together.

  10. Slightly old thread, indeed....

Though I did get some comments from a (smaller) team in a mission a while back when I'd immobilized an enemy, then just casually [walk]ed up and finished them off. They loved it.

It's not a "giant thigh pocket." It's meant to be tight for boots or extra wrapping to protect from rubbing. The flared upper part (don't forget, existing some time before modern fabric) was, IIRC, to add mobility/flexibility and aid in cooling. Again, IIRC, it's originally from India, imported to Europe via England.
  12. *points down to link to guides*

Have one in there about the original COH video, as well. Some discussion on the groups and such in there, if interested.

As I recall from that - after all, that's more *pre* beta, if I'm remembering the discussion correctly - you can't really point at a power pool and say "That's X now." The pools were described as smaller - more like our power pools now.
  13. I have the CM 690 case. It doesn't show it on the pictures, but there's a little loop for a lock when the side of the case is secured, yes. You can just kinda-sorta see it in the lower left here: (follow the top of the powr supply to the left.)

    - Glinting Eye - 4 sec recharge increased to 8 sec
-Gleaming Blast - 8 sec recharge increased to 10 sec

-> Why? Peacebringers tend to build for global recharge to achieve perma-lightform, making very short recharge powers like Gleaming Bolt with just 1.5 sec recharge particularly ineffective. Higher base recharge on the ranged blasts (along with an increased base damage to compensate for it) would greatly improve human form ST ranged damage, which I feel is lacking (most of my damage comes from the melee attacks + Tier 3 Gleaming Blast).

Eh, one I'll actually speak up about. (Yes, I'm actively avoiding the knockback vs knockdown comments. Kind of surprised there's not more back and forth on these, actually.)

I'd 100% disagree with increasing the recharge on these. While SOME people will build for global recharge - just like SOME people will build for softcap on their blaster, or SOME people will go proc-crazy on some attacks, or SOME people will go perma-dom, etc. that's not everyone. That's not even most people, I'd wager.

I'll pay more END if I need to if it gets more damage, that's fine. But more recharge time on the blasts? No, thanks. Adjust the recharge cap if it's an actual problem - but I'm more than happy to run my khelds on SOs or common IOs, and don't want to be penalized for the actions of a few.

In the first place, when they were just on subs they also put things out at a much slower pace. How many new power sets did we see from COV launch to Freedom launch? How many have come out since? How many costume sets? Do you want to go back to that pace of release?

    I mean, COV launch = Halloween 2005 (issue 6)
    Freedom launch = late 2011

Between, not counting ports, we had (for just powersets, not proliferation) - and these lists are pretty much going from memory:
    Thugs
    Demons
    Plant control
    Electric control
    Electric Armor
    Shield Defense
    Electric Melee
    Kinetic Melee
    SOAs
    Widows

(Think I caught them all) - so, 9 powersets, 6 years, or about 1.3 powersets a year.

    Since Freedom's launch, we've had:
    Beam rifle
    Street justice
    Titan Weapons
    Beast Mastery
    Dark control
    Dark manipulation
    Staff Fighting

Even if we cheat in the old timeline's favor and call the time since Freedom a full year, that's still 7 powersets. (I'm not counting dark blast to blasters, I'm throwing that in as a port.) In one year. AND more tweaks to others than we've typically seen in such a short time. (Yes, I'm sure it'll slow down - but even if they drop to one powerset quarterly, or even one every six months, they're still kicking the tail of the old rate.)

Personally, I rather like the faster pace. Even *my* altitis has a hard time keeping up.

Second, while they're glad to have people paying money as Premium (since any purchase brings you from free to premium,) they *still want to push people to subscriptions.*

That's getting development since it's the newest system. It's not really becoming "the focus of the game," though. We're getting content through the ranges as well.

    PvP Ideas:

Hmmm. Admitting I've skimmed a bit:

    1. Make it easy to find.

It *is* easy to find - there are four zones and an arena. However, the arena UI, at least last I saw of it, was... fairly nonintuitive and a bit of a bear to get around. So that needs to be tweaked, first and foremost.

I wouldn't argue with using the Team Up Teleporter... somehow. Say, options of "Watch for arena events and notify," "Watch for PVP zone events" (but not just "someone has entered" - maybe have an imbalance trigger the user can set, or a temporary "PVP zone alert" power that comes up.)

For 2 - and tied in with 3 - er... I just don't see that working.

In the first place, they can (and do) have separate PVE and PVP effects on powers. So there's no "annoyance" there.

Second... I mean, looking at #3... there are exactly zero missions that send players to the PVP zones. WAY back when they were introduced, you had to go into the zone for the PVP warzone liason. Those were finally moved *out* of the zone so if you didn't want to, you didn't have to enter them, period.

As far as badgers in the zones - the only thing I agree shouldn't be required are things tied to accolades (barring having PVP-active-only accolades, which don't exist now.) Other than that, the only thing "forcing" badgers into the zones are... the badgers. Even then, the zones are so *dead* that there's pretty much zero risk, and zero reason for them to complain.

Now for the biggie... the wholesale power replacement.

I get the idea behind it. (Actually suggested something similar in a dedicated zone for it years ago.) But here's the thing - these are *our characters.* A Defender isn't a 'healer,' for instance (just to take a possible replacement) and forcing my Trick Arrow defender to suddenly have Empathy powers and some generic buff and debuff means I'm *not going into that zone.* Forcing my fairly controller-y Dark Armor tank to suddenly just "be tough and hard to hit" guts the purpose I built that tank for (in PVE, admittedly) - so I'm no longer playing *that* character.

Part of the fun OF PVP pre-I13 (and, IMHO, pre-IOs) was that you couldn't just see "Oh, an <insert AT here>" and instantly know their capabilities. (in fact, if you'll notice IN PVP zones, the powers tab if you pull up info is missing.) You'd watch what they were doing and try to pick it up from there. (Part of the reason the "Suppress power effects" tailor option has no effect in PVP zone.) Plus there's the finding unusual combinations - yes, some people just build FOTMs, but if that's all they fight, something off the wall can really throw them.

As far as balance? The stance on it for a long time was quite simply "It isn't. It's balanced around being part of a team," and I find that 100% acceptable, since we don't have "Tank, Healer, DPS" - we've got a ton of different power combinations which, in a PVP zone, make every encounter unique.

Frankly, I think the worst thing (and that which will be the biggest problem for reclaiming PVP) is the introduction of IOs. On SOs - or even commons? There's a low entry point. You may have DOs slotted, you may not have as MUCH slotted as that level 50 - but it's a matter of leveling and getting to know your character. Now? Soft-cap this, proc that, recharge out the wazoo... there's a decided *price* to enter serious PVP, and a decided gap between the "casual" and "hardcore." (I say that as someone who still goes in on common IOs and fights if there's someone around - but the people I tend to fight seem to end up being either new or also highly casual, so this is more of an arena or high end issue. Not that I've found anyone in the zones in *months,* mind you.)

Of course the other issue is just that, IOs and everything else aside, there's a big barrier just from powers working differently in PVP than they do in PVE *anyway.* And that can be discouraging for someone to walk into.

So, yes. Influence/Infamy/Information is money. Honestly, even RPing the other way makes *zero* sense. Let's take a typical transaction and make influence "influence."

"Hi. I'd like to change my costume. I was thinking about just going to something casual for those off days, just jeans and a T-shirt."

"I'm sorry, I don't think you're quite good enough for jeans and a T-shirt. I can change the color of your tights if you'd like."

    "No, thanks."

Character goes to auction house. Puts a luck charm on the market where some unknown person or mechanic pays 30,000 inf. Character goes back to Icon.

"Hey. I just gave some unknown person a ring."

"OH MY GOD, you're WONDERFUL, you FABULOUS person you! Let me get RIGHT on that costume! Jeans, you said? EXCELLENT choice! But wait, you're not quite famous enough for a T-shirt yet."

    "OK."

Person goes to the Natural store and... does.... something - shows someone how to hit someone in a back alley somewhere and stun them, I suppose. (Back Alley Blind Strike.)

"Hey, I showed someone in a store how to hit someone."

"GREAT! Now I can give you a shirt too!"

.... yeah, makes *perfect* sense not to just admit it's currency.
  21. Absolutely not.

Wentworths and the BM are not "social spaces." If I'm in atlas and I want social, I go to the statue of Atlas and/or Ms. Liberty. In Wentworths? The only talking I ever see done is "buymyinforgoldorwhatever.com we steal your credit card number more efficiently than anyone else!" /ignorespammer. I'm not there to interact with people, and if the auction house looks crowded, I either /ah or go to, say, King's Row where it *won't* be so crowded.

Plus, as mentioned, those that can use /ah *have* paid for it - literally, through the Paragon rewards program.

Simply put, charging me to use /ah is as much a nonstarter as charging me a fee to use a power on my mastermind, controllers, Khelds or SOAs.

New Trial for the Zigg - a former Arachnos power is attempting to foment a riot to cover his escape. Villains grudgingly assist Heroes in preventing this as they have their own interests in keeping the status quo in the Rogue Isles.

There's just a heck of a lot of content that could be brought forward with a content revamp of Brickstown without changing too much of the zone. The only zone alterations I'd suggest would be a Crey Area in the South side, where they have patrols guarding some of their facilities. The rest of Bricks would be taken over by rival gangs and factions that already exist there with each gang/faction having their own 'territory', with NPC battles at their borders. I'd extend the level range to make it from 31-42/43.
Brickstown as a coop would still bug me, honestly (I'm kind of glad in that instance that there's no villain tutorial any more, as much as I hate to see them both go.)

What unused zone *would* make sense as a co-op (or at least dual access) zone and has no existing content to really be redone? *Crey's Folly.* Heck, if you want a villain "prison break," this is the gateway. But if you look at it - we've got the Rikti war zone RIGHT THERE. When it was the RCS (before we got the Peregrine portal,) we had to cut through Crey's to get there. And as much as the Rikti (and everyone else) tunnel, it's fairly easy to think someone would get through and start... *something.*

Rikti are already part of the zone. So is Nemesis. The Devouring Earth have at least *swarms* there, but you'd think they'd have a bigger presence given the whole theme is "Industrial Environmental Catastrophe." It's a good size zone, I can easily see 30-50 content in there for both sides. (And I've suggested Crey's be subject to a revamp before.)

Yes, it buffs resists (and anyone with defense is going to love having resists behind their defense to lessen the damage of what comes through.) It does some fairly nice -resist, but you covered that. It does also do mez protection, both with Sonic Dispersion and (the abysmally late, especially as a secondary) Clarity.

The worst *power* in there, though - and this coming from someone who likes and uses knockback - is Sonic repulsion. If I could put this on *me,* I could see the point. Sticking it on a random teammate or pet? Nooooo thanks. But at least it gives me a power to skip.
