  1. Villains have less to do, really...

One thing you may want to look into, though, is the unlockable contacts. Some are "Eh," others are rather interesting (or even fun,) such as the Television.

Villainside in general, the only contacts I end up looking forward to tend to be higher level - Vernon von Grunn, Television, Efficiency Expert Pither, Ambassador Kur'Rekt.

Other than VEATs? VEATs are really powerful and a lot of people play them.

The last four slots in the "most played" were taken up by all four EATs. They were the least common ATs.

    Bad Luck

I have two accounts, one from I3, one from later (post-COV.) No difference in drop rates - both are very rare, though my oldest account did get a "lucky streak" of three purples in one or two missions... then nothing for a while.

There's no "luck" flag or "old account" flag.
  4. What we got in the magic pack is the best compromise the costume designer could come up with. Full body robes don't work with player animations. (You'll note those that are used in the game are on characters with limited animations.)
  5. Get thee to the Dev Digest, Jay's Costume Suggestion Thread.

    Yes, it's long.

    Yes, he reads them.

No, he doesn't tend to pay attention to them anywhere else.

Done. I doubt it's coming for another month, though. Then again, I haven't really fiddled with Beta much. There's a reason I'm glad I'm not chosen for Closed Beta tests

    [/ QUOTE ]

They skipped closed beta and went to open beta as a way to make everyone feel included, and because there wasn't sweet **** all to test.

    [/ QUOTE ]

They didn't skip closed beta, they just opened it up to everyone. The content that is up is still in the same unfinished, unpolished state that it would be in if the beta were closed.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Except if it's open to everyone then it's not a closed Beta, it is, by definition, an open beta. So they skipped the closed beta.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think the devs called it a closed beta that all subscribers can get into to get across the point that in the development cycle, what's on Test looks like what you normally see in closed beta, which is a lot more unfinished than the way it looks in open beta. As it is, half the issue are the new TF and SF and both have a major bug which prevents even completing the Forces, which is par for the course in closed beta. Things like that get fixed before open beta.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And there's also BABs comment when people were complaining about the bugs on test early on - "Welcome to closed beta." (Think it was BaBs.)
  7. Hmmmm....

"Fun to watch" tends (for me) to go to Superstrength and Dual Blades. Dual blades... is practically ballet at times. As well as nukes. Martial Arts has a bit of variety in there, too.

Stuff to avoid going JUST on visuals... Gravity (since... well, you don't see much) and Mind (since you don't see much.) Those also tend to be favourite sets of mine, at least Mind. Mind/Fire is just nuts.

Control sets are generally going to give some variation in graphics, from earthquakes and cages to ice slicks, blocks of ice, vines popping up and pets.

Just off the top of my head. I'm sure others will land there as well.

It is not that Kheldians have to have a Kryptonite because they are all-powerful, it's they have to have a Kryptonite because they have no other weaknesses.

    Market Issue

    [ QUOTE ]
So I put some Enchanted Impervium on the Black Market for 1mil each, because a friend told me to do this for good money, since I need enhancements and I am poor. So I did this, and I decided to wait overnight. So when I checked this morning, the Impervium was gone, but I had the same infamy. What happened?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    1. Were you getting a message when you logged in that said "You have X sold items on the black market?"

    2. If no, were they actually showing *at all* on the Black Market?

    3. If they weren't showing at all - silly question, did you check your own salvage to see if the BM actually took them?

    4. If they're not there, how many slots actually show on the black market, and what level are you?

Honestly - open up the BM, and go to the kitchen, grab a drink, make a sandwich, then come back. It can take a *while* to update, especially the first time. If they aren't anywhere, open up a ticket.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Built one. Upgraded it. Built a second one. No reason to get rid of the first. (And having it has saved my butt once or twice - "backup" computer to download drivers, troubleshoot, etc. ) When I get the new one built later this year, the second one becomes the "backup," and the first will likely be used as a TV/DVR, or for file storage or some such thing until it finally breaks. (Or I upgrade the mainboard, and put the second system's old CPU, video card and RAM in it...)

In order to still make these prospective AT IOs open to more, what if they were designed like the PvP IOs?

The Set will give "normal" bonuses for anyone, but will also give extra bonuses if used by the correct AT?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    ... y'know, I like that idea.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If possible, that's not a bad compromise. I suspect it's not, otherwise why wouldn't they have done it for the existing sets?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, the PVP IOs did *just* come out (relatively.) Plus with the majority *not* being that way, it's one less thing to worry about as people get into them.

Still, for some future sets, that could be quite interesting.

    SG Name Change

I think (honestly) I'd rather keep both bases and just coalition them, depending on how much work went into each. But that's just me.

Not that I'm against SG renames, mind you - but the biggest problem, to me, would be making sure that everyone approves of the name. (Or at least those who care one way or another.)
  15. [ QUOTE ]
I think that's a great suggesion, because even if Tankers know when HC is a bad idea (on teams), it still seems to be a "bad idea" to use it in most situations solo as well, because as the OP suggested, all it does is cause the melee toon to have to chase everyone down as soon as he uses it.

    "The One"

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not necessarily - need an extra second or two before Healing Flames (for instance) comes up? Handclap - drives everyone away, and they'll be coming right back to you.

That said, lowering the mag so it's KD means it can be brought back up with a KB enhancement if someone wants knock*back* instead.

(Edit for a little more clarity.)

I believe they looked at it for earth or ice at one point, but yeah, mostly plant. Fire will run across something similar with hot feet.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Four years ago, a Fire Controller was complaining about a "Target in air" bug on... What was that AoE stun power in Fire Control? He was showing me a veritable hold with that and Fire Cages, but complained it didn't always work

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Flashfire.
    [ QUOTE ]

That said, you mean the target has to be on the ground for the power to be effective? Thematically, I can agree, but... Why, they, does Tremor activate on targets in the air? I mean it's a power that causes the ground to shake, how am I doing that to a flying Goldbricker 10 feet up into clear airspace? and just how am I sending a crack in the ground up into the air?

    [/ QUOTE ]

At least with /Thorns as a secondary I can hit with Impale, assuming I just want to use my single target controls. But that doesn't help when it's Roots (the AOE immob.) Which was the case with the DE - the target I picked that was nicely in the center was on a slight angle, and came back as "In the air."

(My typical setup is Seeds, wait a sec for them to turn in and attack each other, clumping up a bit more nicely, then Roots, Fling Thorns, and whittle them down. Or drop Carrion Creepers under them.)

I'm 90% sure that, right now, Plant/ is the only control set that does this. I know I've brought things down with Ice and, I'm reasonably sure, Fire. I think they did this to Earth for a very short time. It's really a frustrating little mechanic.
  17. Um...

OK, with questions like that, I'd say stop, and do some research. You're throwing around terms here (and in your original post) that sound like you just ran across them and they sounded good... but you're going to get yourself confused and possibly into trouble if you look at piecing this together yourself without understanding what they are.

    1. You said you're looking at a board with AGP slots. Stop looking at it.

AGP is a graphics card slot that's just not used these days. It's been replaced with PCI-E. You won't find anything close to a decent graphics card to use with it - and certainly won't be doing SLI or Crossfire.

    2. RAID

... can do a lot of things, from increase performance to protect data. There are multiple variations on it - but if you're not sure of what you're looking at and your terminology, I'd really hesitate to even go into this, much less suggest setting up a RAID array.

    3. PCI vs PCI-E

It's quite possible the mainboard you choose will have both. PCI is older than PCI-E, but still in use for expansion cards. PCI-E exists in various levels, but is not compatible with PCI. (For instance, you might find a PCI x1 network card - it won't plug into a PCI slot and work.) The slots are physically different, for starters -

Look, you're going to run into even more "stuff" you're going to have questions on, between processor slot families, memory types, speeds, etc.

Start with FatherXmas's guide on computer components in his signature. When you're done there (follow some of the links,) look through his builds, and see if you can get a feeling for what's what and how things go together. There are also guides out there on the wide world of the 'net on building your first system. Some great, some not so much. Keep wikipedia handy, as well, and use it to look up a few things you're not sure of - it may help, it may not, but it's another explanation. Or just base what you're looking at on his $1000 build, perhaps.

Basically, right now you've said you want to build a race car. We've kind of pointed you at some ideas and components, and you've essentially come back asking "What's the difference between wheels and tires? Philips head? Regular? Torx? What's the difference between Torx and Torque? Manifold - do I have to fold it myself?"

You need to do some reading so you don't get in over your head.

  19. I believe they looked at it for earth or ice at one point, but yeah, mostly plant. Fire will run across something similar with hot feet.
  20. I pretty much always start at newegg for at least pricing ideas. I have a few places like best buy and compusa nearby - and if I find a similar case or some such which is about the same price, I'd go there and buy (just to avoid shipping.) But generally, yeah, start at newegg.
  21. Well, don't be so sure about "won't support other processors." The board I'm running right now predated information on the Phenoms (and even later Athlon X2 processors.) But thanks to being Socket AM2, I've got the chance to run quite a few - and support for many later processors was obtained via a BIOS upgrade.

This system started out with an Athlon X2 4000, 2.1 Ghz processor, 2 Gb RAM, and Geforce 7900 when I built it about 3 years ago. Recently bumped up to a 5600, 2.99 Ghz processor, 4 Gb RAM and GeForce 9800 GT - and the processor runs cooler (by FAR) and takes less power. Still planning on a new system for Win7 though - SSD boot drive, and far more RAM. Even with that, though, this system will probably keep going for another two years... heck, I still have the system before *this* one which is a few years older, Sempron 2400, AGP Geforce 6800, and 1.5 Gb RAM. I use it when I dual box, or want to look stuff up while playing. Takes longer to boot, zone, etc. of course.

I don't build to the "latest and greatest," but I do keep upgradeability in mind.

And BillZ might not be around - he was talking about taking a break 'til around I16 when his current sub ran out. Bit of burnout.
  22. I'm still honestly questioning your need for a multiprocessor board, TBH. I haven't seen all that many - and COH, for one, doesn't take more than two threads. Very few games out there really take advantage of multiple *cores* to begin with. (Plus, in any case, there's still noise coming out about six and eight core processors - whether they'll hit the mass market anytime soon, versus workstation/server market... *shrug* )

As for power supplies - no, outside of very small form factor (Mac Mini style) and notebooks, I don't see externals. Heat from that shouldn't be a worry at all - they do, after all, have at *least* a fan in back which will draw the air directly out, while some have multiple fans to draw air through them before it goes. Some cases even have the various items "zoned" for thermal reasons... whether it helps or not, I don't know. And no, there's no way of adding liquid cooling to a power supply to my knowledge. I wouldn't open one up to begin with.

How much power you'd need... check for some power calculator sites. *shrug*
  23. [ QUOTE ]

No, you got paid for doing work during that time when it was needed. You didn't ignore the job. When there was a call in, you took care of it. You were performing a service, even if that service didn't occupy the entire time you were there. "Being available" is a service.

You're paid hourly ( Monthly/weekly/whatever ) because time is the most convenient method of measuring the service. And that's all time is: A unit of measurement. I drive a truck. I get paid by the mile. The company isn't buying "my miles", they're buying me driving those miles.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And you're paying the RMTers a rate for their service, as well.

We're not going to see eye to eye on this, so I'm going to step out of this for now instead of butting heads for the next hour or so. I'd much rather get something (like "in better shape") if I'm going to run around in circles
