  1. Yeah, I'm not... particularly sure what it does either, or why I'd want it to do it. I'm assuming it sends things like you levelled, finished an arc, got a badge, etc. to twitter or something, but since I don't use any of that - and anyone would particularly care that "Memphis Bill got to level 19 in City of Heroes!" is beyond me, frankly - well...

    "Meh."

I mean, part of it sounds like steam's achivements, and IMHO that's already cluttered with "So-and-so bought this game!" and other generally useless info.
  2. One or two minor annoyances came back to light as I was editing a (small) SG base just a few minutes ago. I added two teleporters, and overextended the control amount.

OK, not a problem, either delete something or add control, right? Well, how much am I over?

Good question. If you hover in JUST the right spot, the numbers will come up - unfortunately, at least for me, that spot seems to be about a five pixel by five pixel square at best.

What I'd *like* to see is, either permanently or as an option, have the graphs display the actual *values* (or have the option to have the values replace the graphs) - so they'd read, say, "Power: 230/250" (230 used of 250,) Control: 140/150." When they go over the amount, though it'd be obvious I'd think, the numbers go red.

In addition - let me place, but power off, items. It's not a big deal for normal base items, but for crafted items you don't want to delete, keeping them in-base but "switched off" would be nice, just for the sake of placement. When you're ready to use them, turn them on.

(And last but not least - restating the request for a temporary holding area for items, so bases can be shuffled around and things like teleporters can be "held" while doing something like deleting the rooms (getting the prestige back) to replace with a larger room, or trying to rearrange rooms on a specific plot.)

    Self-Exemplar

Of course, the opposite suggestion would work for that, as well - add the safeguard/mayhem missions to Ouro. Since that's pretty much all that *can't* be done (IIRC) right now.
  4. One minor, technical issue that could get annoying with "enter any door" -

You know those office buildings with a set of four doors? Get a mission there. One set of doors is your actual mission door, the other set often *isn't.* It'd be rather annoying to try to get into your mission, and suddenly find you're in the equivalent of a newspaper mission.

I do, though, like the idea in principle. Though, flavor-wise, I'd rather see some combination of triggers - the global announcement would work, yes, but:

    - Zone event. You finish, say, the Steel Canyon fires. For the next 5 minutes, the Fire Chief is available as a contact and you can investigate the reason behind the arson (ok, they're Hellions and doing it "for fun," but someone may have pointed them to it.) Requires a few other zone events to be made, of course.

    - Civilian rescue. Brought up many times before. Any street-sweeping done that you're in range of the zone (no 50s nuking everything in Perez) gives, say, a 25% chance of the rescued civilian offering a mission or mini-arc.

    - "Suspicious activity" - Pick a healthy number (say, 20) of doors near spawn points. Seeing mobs in specific animations (or possibly a slightly larger spawn than normal) and take them out - you may get a mission at that location.

(Or, of course, change "get a mission" to just "be offered one," so you can reject it.)
  5. Very nicely done (for both pieces.) You should get inspired to sketch more often!
  6. When my APPs/PPPs open up, "late game" begins - 41+
  7. I'm assuming what's being said, in a slightly roudabout way, is that the ratings system doesn't give enough information. All you see is an average of 1-5 stars, with no information behind it.

This has been discussed before, yes. You don't see comments (so you, looking for an arc, don't see that a group one-starred it for "tu much wurds storys iz dum no xps" as opposed to "It was internally inconsistent, had horrid spelling and grammar - you could take one word from each COH and COV arc, put them together randomly and have an arc that makes more sense." Alternately, seeing a five-star arc with no comments, versus one praising story and pacing, would let you know what to expect (though you can glean a bit of an idea by the description given.)

I hesitate to agree that "something needs to change now," given that it would affect every single arc currently rated. I wouldn't *mind* seeing more detailed ratings, mind you. And the extra detail available to the author to describe the arc ("Solo friendly, canon-related humor") does help somewhat in finding content - I don't tend to go just by stars. That, of course, is dependant on those being *filled out.*

Last note, this sounds more like a rant than a suggestion.
  8. Other alternatives -

Did you finish Croatoa? I seem to *always* get Cadao from the last Croatoa contact, without fail.

Alternate method - Put yourself on "No XP" and run newspaper missions in Founders until you get him as a contact post-Safeguard. (the "No XP" being suggested so you don't outlevel him.)

And just to be clear, I wasn't pointing that at *you,* as I don't recall you saying such a thing. More a general commentary.
    Quote:
That could be restated as "Why have badges at all?" And I think the answer is that badge collecting is a well established minigame that has a small but hard core following. Just as some players care passionately about PvP, or hitting the inf cap on the market, or building a killer SG base, this isn't something that most of us care about, but the segment that does care about it cares about it a lot. And the way they measure their accomplishments is via badge count.
I think I explained badly there. I fully understand that some people like chasing badges. Not my thing, but "eh." The *specific* suggestion, though, just seems like... I don't know, a more artificial way to expand badge count.

I know, that's an odd thing to say in an already artificial system, in a *game.*

Of course, the times I think a badge would be interesting - well, tend to be the same time a good chunk of the badging crowd would like to see my lynched. Unfarmable, one-shot actual achivements - Efficiency Expert Pither, for instance, is great (to me.) Tiering the badges, *to me,* works to show a degree of achivement, better than separate badges. Which is somewhat in line with what you're suggesting - I'm just thinking that, among the badging group, there'd be quite the argument about if they "count" that way or not, and personally I think it'd be rather silly to count them as such. But that's just me.

I don't personally believe this to be the case for the most part - having gone through this in the past (the old Zookeeper badge,) for instance, the reaction was generally one of great relief. Nor do I tend to hear much complaining about not "having to" farm healing/damage/etc. (or as much.) Again, the general consensus appears more to be one of "Whew, finally."

I do find the phrasing amusing, though, given that the very same thing was said *to* various badge hunters about their farming devaluing the actual badge itself (such as PVP rep farming,) to which the response was generally "No it doesn't, we meet the requirements, there's no other meaning," or just plain "Who cares." Yes, *from* the badgers. Therefore, any complaint of "devaluing" badges by lowering the requirements to more realistic ones comes off, to me, as rather hypocritical from that segment.

    Quote:
So let's say you get the badge for TF X. You'd see that name/badge in your badge list. Then you do the TF again with enemies buffed. You'd see a standard little glyph for buffed enemies appear under the TF badge and your badge count would go up by 1.
Why do badge counts need to go up at all? You get nothing for badge counts (but, in some instances, another badge,) and that's fine with me. (Frankly, I'm fine with complete replacement - call it "tiered" badges, similar to the "X the victor" series.)

How about "Irritating?" Especially if it's just for a little tweak due to lighting. I'd rather be able to do that little tweak and go on, instead of having to fix the "random" color choice that can creep in, rewrite a bio and the like.

<nitpick>And there's no such thing as a level 0 character. You start at level 1. </nitpick.>

The main thing that gets people asking for this, even pre-power customization, is that the lighting and surroundings in the costume creator make it look much different than "on the street." Usually it's a matter of adjusting colors once you see how it "really" looks - and if you have everything "just right" (including bio) except that, it'd be nice to be able to make the quick tweak instead of rerolling.

    .
Requiem, IIRC, was retconned from a "mysterious source" to the Nictus.

Also, not to quote myself... ok, I am:

    Quote:
Galaxy troops can opt to go for a "full conversion" after a while to a full Nictus - most likely, given other in game comments, because the shards integrate more fully into the host, get stronger, and keep making the suggestion (plus the "longing for space" that's mentioned.) It's mentioned in a story arc that the conversion rate for Galaxy troops to full Nictus is reaching 40%.

Two other types of creatures come up in conversations about these - War Wolves and Vampyrii. Failed Galaxy conversions can create War Wolves, though there is also some seperate process geared specifically towards making them. Vampyrii are made in a completely seperate process that has nothing to do with Nictus shards or Kheldians at all.

*** Spoiler *** There is a portion of the Kheldian story arcs that has you dealing with "shadow" enemies - Shadow freaks, Shadow vampyrii and the like. These are Freaks and Vampyrii that have been infused with Nictus fragments. Nosferatu himself was considering it. But the fragments have NOTHING to do with the original creation of Vampyrii.

  16. One thing to understand - the powersets can give a very different gameplay feel within an AT. So "Which AT do you enjoy" isn't going to give *quite* as precise an answer.

For instance, I enjoy playing Controllers - but if you saw me running Illusion, you'd never believe it, because I'm decidedly *not* a fan of the set.

    That said, for me -
    Blueside - Warshades
    Redside - Dominators

You assume much. Vet players have asked for this as well, as the lighting in the character creator/tailor is much different than "in the world."
  18. Were it allowed, I'd give a simple "no" to this, as the various issues with it should be self-evident. However, to comply with the various posting guidelines:

    Inf to rate an arc?
But the need to spend it would
    In silence result.

Or how about this, to the music of Bohemian Rhapsody:

    Pay inf
    To rate an arc?
All the arcs that are now up
Are they all just out of luck?
    Pay inf?
    What would it re-ally prove
But that farmers have more spare inf to spend?
    Pay inf, oooooo,
What of all the rated arcs
and their star ratings in the current system?
Influence, infamy, bad basis for a rating.

    I don't believe they are.

For instance, most of my Controllers solo slowly. But not because they're "great team support," rather because they do so very *safely.* Danger? What danger is something encased in ice/stone/choking on ash?

Defenders? Again, lower damage, true - but when my brand-new Rad controller can stand in the middle of a group of +level enemies and "dance" as they dodge the incoming hits - again, what risk? I'm soloing slower, but far safer.

My blaster does higher damage, but has little or nothing (barring secondary effects) to protect himself but defeating mobs before eating floor.

They are, quite frankly, balanced in general.

    Edit:

As far as the later comment about "real hero" versus "support," if my characters were real, they'd find that most offensive - they're as real a hero as any blaster or tank. And as far as wanting tanks to do more damage? Is this coming from someone who hasn't seen a higher level tank absolutely level the enemies surrounding them? Sure, low level tankers can be a bit anemic on the damage. Higher level tanks tend to want teams just for more mobs for *something* like a challenge.

    Amusement.
    Fun arcs.

Those are two biggies right there. The Freakylimpics could give 1 XP for the whole thing, and I'd *still* do it. (And have, getting 0 XP, on a character I'd had it on and run with friends for a while, outleveling it when I had it.) Doc Buzzsaw's arc is funny in its own "mad science" way. I look forward to *it* at 30 (which, given the XP "speed boost" to 20, I'll have to remember to turn XP off for now) more than the costume, aura, etc.

If you play just, or mostly, for numbers... whatever does it for you. *shrug* I play for fun and amusement. If I were that heavily concentrated on the numbers, I'd be firing up Excel every night, not COH. (Yes, I'm aware some people try to min/max every ounce of the game, from build to XP and Damage per second. Not saying it's illegitimate... just not my thing.)
  21. I could have sworn they still had them. Loaded up one of my MMs (with two bodyguard macros - one that's just the default, one that has a little chatter.) Default chatter ("I'm right behind you / Eyes are Peeled" - Mercs) shows in the bubbles, the chat that used to override this is in the text area.

    I'm hoping that's just a bug. So, yeah... /signed.

Personally, if you have yours turned off (IMHO) you shouldn't be able to do anything with it - see it, leave it for others, etc.

Of course, given it's completely anonymous you can't tell unless someone's signed it. Which is, of course, part of the issue.

One of the major reasons that WoW became the juggernaut that it is today, is that it had this humungous body of lore behind it AND EVERYONE KNEW THE LORE. More than that - If you don't know it, you can find it in the game! It's scattered all through the game world, and these days they even give you an "accolade" for tracking it all down and learning it.
I highly doubt "the lore" had anything to do with WoW being what it is. Yes, it had a built in fanbase thanks to WC 1-3 - a fanbase that, for the most part, was big on player vs player maps. I'd put money down that less than 10% of the playerbase (which is still a hefty number) knows "the lore" past "These guys are Horde, these guys are Alliance, and these are the big powerful dudes in the region." That's roughly analogous to hearing about current events versus knowing national and world history well.

What I find amusing about this quote is, you say (at least the way this is phrased) that in WoW, you can go through the world and learn the lore and earn an accolade... Are you *sure* you weren't thinking of COH and ran two thoughts together there? Given that's exactly what history plaques lead to (badges and parts of accolades?) Not saying it doesnt' do the same thing in WoW - I don't play (it's very much not my style, and I'm not fond of the "community" there) but just from terminology it sounds like you were thinking of COH.
