Honestly, I don't tend to take Combat Jumping for the +def but for the -immob. (For instance, I play quite a few Fire tanks, and have a few Darks I enjoy. Fire doesn't get a built in Immob resist until Burn at 18 (for tanks, later for scrappers/brutes,) Dark gets it in the stealth toggle Cloak of Darkness @12. Electric gets it in Grounded, which only kicks in when "near the ground.")
That said - I don't think it'd work the way you think. When (to use your example) that fake nem targets you and cycles to "Whap with Nem Staff bolt," that's when its tohit calculations go into effect, and that's when you're "hit" or "missed." Jumping around would just be... irritating, frankly.
And what about those who *do* need to be on the ground - I don't recall the height where Grounded kicks in, but those who have to be on the ground to (say) activate hot feet, or summon pets, or whose powers get interrupted by movement, or who get rooted while using a power - sounds right offhand like it'd be a mess to me. -
Quote:I'm pretty sure it was actually one of the community reps - "orange names" - not posi, but yes, it was a purely hypothetical, "For instance if we did something like this that would make server transfers moot" statement. Also, just before anyone reference the quote, yes, Positron did once mention the possibility of a server-less environment. But mind you, you have to understand the context: He wasn't saying it was something they were considering, he was merely covering NC's butt in case NC did something that'd make people's purchases of server transfers pointless, like the a-fore-mentioned serverless environment.
And as for the OP - one, it's been suggested, yes, two, there was a female Robin. And three, I'd start with arenas and (if they ever bring them back) possibly base raids first, then worry about zones. Start small, then expand. -
Mine's from my first character, back in I3, SS/Fire tank. (Not the first 50 - that's where the global for one account came from, since it's who I was playing when globals came out.)
The name itself? Well, the *character* was the closest I could come to a character I was playing in Silver Age Sentinels - had to be SS, so it had to be a tank, and we didn't have Dark armor for Tanks at the time (which really fits better... and which was created when it did come out.) Didn't want to use the name I had for the PnP character (nicknamed 'spitball,' not that anyone would want to be on the receiving end of one - he demolished a bunker with one.)
Trying to think of an interesting name, I looked around, glanced at my movie collection, saw "Memphis Belle" and decided to go with Memphis Bill. Seemed like it would hint at a backstory. -

Quote:... because they're islands surrounded by a lot of water, as opposed to a large city?ah ,then why there isn't blue walls in rogue isles?if they updgrated it they should have add that to CoH too ,why only villains will enjoy city that free of blue walls?
Because the Rogue Isles aren't as big a target as major cities? (Note, Lore-wise, Paris, London, etc. were also attacked... while I highly doubt, say, Powers, Oregon would be.)
Because Recluse made deals? (See also Ambassador Kur'Rekt.) -
Quote:IMO, this is where the OP made an incorrect assumption.
People clearly did fast runs before merits were introduced.
Who would run a Dr Q TF when they could run another TF that was vastly shorter and more interesting and get the same reward?
And look at Dr Q's now. I see on the global channels people doing around 3.5 hours. People have gotten smarter and more efficient (I like it!) to maximize their merit returns for time invested.
People would just do the same again with setting the conditions to get the best merits for the least effort put in, and players could get left out because they don't have the right builds (to survive difficulty conditions) or the amount of time to play (to clear all mobs each mission).
/nitpick
People did speed runs when rewards other than SOs were introduced. I don't mean stealthing and trying to shorten what would otherwise be a long slog. I mean the "Quick Katie" and "Speeden" didn't exist for all practical purposes until recipe rewards were introduced. Merits are, frankly, just as bad.
And heaven forbid you actually want to *enjoy* the TF, read what's going on or the like - no, no, it's a matter of "rush to get the most merits (now) and don't slow down the team."
Frankly, I think the whole reward scheme has backfired. The devs wanted to encourage people to do content - so some group finds the way to do it the quickest, ignoring the *content* for the reward, said reward gets reduced because of those speed runs, and the speed groups go on to the next target. Fortunately, I'm with a few SGs that just schedule their way through the various TFs and run them for the sake of running them and having fun. I'd love to see the focus moved away from merits and rewards, and see people running Eden because of the unique maps, or Katie to "finish" Croatoa or the like. (Yes, I realize the older TFs need revamping, too.) -
Targeting the civilians is *very* useful at times - such as with Kinetics corruptors, Dark Miasma users (the heal, the rez,) /Psy dominators (Drain Psyche) and more.

I believe there's a base suggestions thread somewhere 'round here...
In any case - I wouldn't mind seeing more "stuff" and themes (as well as some tweaks to current options.) I think the base editing menu would need a bit of a revamp though. (Of course, even without more stuff, I think it needs a revamp.) -
Quote:Actually... no, no it doesn't. At least from what we've seen. You can override game defaults, for instance, by having the directory structure replicated in the COH folder - Vidiotmaps does this, Vanden's pack (IIRC) does this, and the few "altered" graphics I've seen (it's been a while - back when we had the headache-inducing graphics for sonic resonance) do this. It's a cool idea, but my guess is that the game currently requires that all graphics assets be downloaded in the patches. That means the patch files would grow quite large because (probably) every player has to be able to view any other player, base or mission.!
I think, though, that the big issue there might be naming conventions and telling the game how to understand "Look here for this new, non-canon map for this mission or mission set." Should it become official, of course, then it *would* be added to the COH download, obviously.

Quote:You need to actually read what's being said in the various suggestions, I think. For instance, someone suggested user made content (maps, models, etc.) While I have nothing against it, I do point out that there are difficulties in implementing it - that's not being negative (I actually wouldn't mind seeing it,) it's giving things for the person making the suggestion to consider.Well, that's something I can relate to! People tend to be all negative all the time. Constructive critisism seems to be perma-absent on sections like these.
If you don't like the idea, come with a better one, suggest changes or stick to the one post saying "Soz, I personally imho think this is a bad idea".
I don't *need* to "come up with a better one." It's a discussion. I have, in the past, come up with and posted suggestions from minor changes to full on zones, groups, missions and task forces.
Part of the problem is that some folks come on here and refuse to accept *any* criticism, *any* suggestion that they may be missing some vital bit of information, *any* hint that their idea is not perfect in every way and needs to be implemented RITE NAO with them canonized (with a real cannon) right after.
"We should make cars with square tires!"Quote:My reason for ever posting an idea is because I want ppl to help me fine-tune it, not to take credit for a fully tought out perfect idea. E.g. Here's something I thought of that could be really cool, HOW can we make it work. An idea might hit a dead end, but instead of pointing ot the problems with it, it's way more fun to work around the problems and see how far you can take the idea.
Now, should I go on about square tires, or point out that there might be a few problems with non-round tires you had not considered, as well as reasons for round being a generally accepted shape for tires?
Criticism and pointing out flaws is not "bullying."Quote:Sure, most ideas will fail miserably, but no ieas will be realized when ppl immediately bully any and all suggestions.
"Resistance to change" is not the reason for criticism - yes, even when one of the questions that may be asked is, "WHY should this change?" If something's duplicating something else in game (sometimes with more effort than the original,) should it be embraced if it gives the same (or a worse) result?Quote:To me it also seems people like the old-style game so much they're terrifyed it would change although people admittedly think it's too easy. Imho making it harder is not the same as making baddies with more hitpoints or more devastating attacks, or better regen or...
And which "old-style" game, precisely, are you saying people like so much? The old-style game when I started (i3?) The just-after-ED old-style game? The no-coop-zone old-style game? The pre-IO old-style game? The pre-AE old-style game? Change happens *continually* in an MMO. But those changes aren't (typically) done haphazardly. They are done to grow the game, the benefits outweigh the costs or risks and the like. And in general - you're going to be asked the same questions here as to why it should be done, if it's worth what might be a major shakeup, how many people would benefit and the like.
If you don't want to deal with that? You have another option - PM a dev. -
What's the SG name? I know you said it has no theme, but is there some idea behind it? It does help tie everything together into a nice, neat little package.
You could go through... pretty much anything with ranks or stages. Pfhor instance, Rampancy only has four, so you'd have to make some up (and alter them slightly to sound like descriptors) =
Docile
Melancholy
Angry
Jealous
Metastable
Eternal
(If, that is, you think Tycho escaped the end of the universe... and if you don't get the reference, well...)
You could pick and choose out of, say, the various Roman ranks, selecting different ones than the Cimerorans (as they're all over with specialists and the like.) Say:
Tiro
Miles
Aquilifer
Primus Pilus
Tribunus
Legatus
(Which I'm sure will be nitpicked - but I did say "pick and choose.")
Or just make stuff up.
Loose Screw
Bunch o'Nuts
Gearbox
Drivetrain
Weapons system
Control
Cries often
Stubbed Toe
Takes a punch
Tough Guy
Dishes it out
Unstoppable -
I don't know that that's actually possible to filter like that, right offhand.
Though it has to be said, *given* player-made channels and the like, which can be found pretty easily (right click, channel search, type in your server name for starters, or AT for instance) - why set this up?
Also, use the search function in game. Broadcast is not the only way to set up a PUG, and that already has a level filter. When you find good players you mesh well with, be sure to add them to your friends list. -
Two PBs at 50, one WS at 50...
I'll echo the above comments. Go to the Kheld forums, post your build, what difficulty and what boss. Something's wonky either in build or tactics. -
Quote:Incorrect. Power customization, with the 15 person team, was so time intensive when it was asked about previously that it was not something that could realistically be done. The team has grown from 15 to 60 developers in the various departments, which makes a huge difference.
I know a dev has said the sorting through player uploaded content would be time intensive and thus unlikely, but power customization was never suppose to happen either.
There are four general categories of reasons for things not being done:
- Not enough manpower/too time/money intensive - which was the case with the 15 member team.
- Philosophically, it is highly disagreeable to the dev team and will likely never happen regardless of money or manpower - such as full-AT respecs.
- Technically not doable with the current engine.
- Legal reasons
For something like this? We don't know if the current engine supports it, though we have seen (pre-PC) character model reskins, power reskins and the like. I don't *believe* we've ever heard a dev speak against the idea (and AE itself shows a degree of openness to user generated content.) Manpower to filter through all this might still be an issue, and I don't know what the legal issues would be - they'd have to be able to ensure it wasn't something coming from another company's property, which itself might tie into the manpower issue.
Actually, legally Paragon Studios/NCSoft may not be *able* to let users create cities and such or otherwise work with the tools that they themselves use - as they don't own the underlying engine, Cryptic still does. They may well stop anything like this dead in its tracks just by saying "no."
If it were possible? Sure, I'd like to see it. Wouldnt' do anything with it myself - I don't tend to do mods and the like - but it'd be interesting to see what people came up with. -
I'm sorry, that'd be overpowered. The servers would melt, people would confuse Europe, America, and tofu, dogs and cats would be sleeping together, and Zuul would make its way into the world, zapping people without the egos to call themselves gods.

(That said, yes, "Oft requested, no idea why/why not." Other than potential concerns when/if they ever turn on PVP base raids again - like filling the base with NPCs.) -
Wasn't that a later addition, though? I remember Jack Wolfe being there for the respec contact, but not the registrar for some time. That's pretty much what I did in Galaxy - starting contacts (especially for the Warshade) and turning in and using an earned respec, and having to head to Atlas to start the various SGs.
If I'm remembering wrong, no biggie. *shrug* I just remember only being able to do so in Atlas. -
He has been better at this lately, in my experience. That said, Psy is right. (Though I don't know if it's "His AI improves" so much as "There's something else that's much better at getting your target's attention" - especially when Noxious Gas is involved.)

Quote:First, why did you need padders? Short of starting a task or strike force - or a farm - you don't "need" a minimum number of people to do *anything.* (Barring the VERY rare "simul-click the glowies" missions. I'd be surprised if there were ten of those in all the game's story arcs any more.)this is no lie and you dont even know me and your calling me a liar. i could say the same for your quote. i finaly got on a team today (sat)on infinity and it took 30 mins to start we had 4 on team and 2 padders, after 1st mish the leader quit and the padders dropped and the 3 of us left got wiped 3 times then 1 of them had to leave so utter failure as a team! and these are all true to life as it stands out there!
Second, BEING padders, why would you complain when they drop? By definition, that's what padders DO - bump up the team size so you can alter the spawns, then drop.
Third, when your team size got cut in half, and you started having problems, why didn't you restart the mission?
Fourth, even with one other dropping, why couldn't you duo for a bit, and check for new teammates between missions? You're not stuck with the same people you start with - you CAN add people.
"Failure as a team?" Failure of leadership would be more honest. A good leader will be evaluating how the team's running, restarting if needed, dropping or raising difficulty and more. -
Quote:Almost a pity we can't...For those of you with Stone Armor characters, how attached are you to the current appearance of "Granite Armor"? There are a number of issues with Granite Armor that could be elegantly solved by changing the VFX of the power into something more akin to the other armor toggles in the set. IE, your player model and costume wouldn't go away, there would just be a new set of 'Granite' armor pieces overlaid.
I haven't made any decision to do this, it's just one of the options for dealing with the multiple issues we have with Granite Armor and I wanted to get a sense of how many of you guys wouldn't be able to adapt to a change like this.
Before anyone asks, no...we couldn't have it both ways.
None of my stoners are high enough for Granite as it is. (That sounds... odd. Anyway.) On the one hand, I have to echo the "transformation into this giant model = cool," but on the other hand, there are only two times the appearance of a set has made me not play it - Sonic (with the old graphics giving me physical pain,) and Villainside Invuln (no longer an issue with the upcoming - er, issue.) I'd say that's a pretty good track record.
I'd be fine with a model change, as long as it keeps the "visual feel" of granite - the massive, indestructable wall coming over to make you reconsider your career choices. -
Quote:Yes - I almost hate starting low level villains, because it's the same-old, same old. Though, <nitpick,> it's each origin, not archetype.
1) Have a new landing zone in the Isles (much like Galaxy City), and have more contacts than just Kalinda and Burke. Even the hero's have a contact for every Archtype.
Basic needs? Both have trainers, stores, a tram to all low level zones, missions, SG portal, etc. And some of us *like* the quieter atmosphere of Galaxy.Quote:2) Have more options for low level heros to follow. Galaxy City seems to be painfully underpopulated, possibly because ther is more access to the low heroes basic needs in Atlas.
The reason Atlas is more crowded - and that you find more "other stuff" there - is inertia. You went there for SG registration. You went there for costume contests. It became a *social* hub. Since the 50s were there, it got the RV entrance. And Vanguard, and a Wentworth's.
That said, I'm certainly not against the idea of refreshing low level content blueside, as well. -
Quote:Hell no. Brings up more problems than you think, most likely.(Yes, I have a long reply about it, but I don't want to hijack the thread.)Remove the unique name requirement, cut the amount of servers in half.
That said, I'm surprised one *other* thing hasn't been mentioned as far as building a list of folks to play with - invasions. Both zombie and Rikti. Teams get thrown together *fast* during those, with people from multiple levels,
Now, yes, the teams *tend* to be from a range of levels - from someone just setting foot in whatever zone it is to the 50 that was at the tailor/WWs/etc. But watch and see if someone's doing a good job leading. See if someone's playing well, or playing like an idiot. Who's a team player and who's not - then *add them to your friends list,* talk to them and ask about regular teams on occasion. Not in a supergroup? Ask how theirs is.
Add to the *normal* friends list first - don't just jump immediately to global. (Unless you ask - and don't be offended if the answer's "No," since some people prefer to keep the global list trimmed - or it's already long - and won't want to add someone new 'til they've played with them a while.)
Other than that, yes, use your SG, your server's channels and more. -
Every proc checks independently of the others. They don't override each other, and they don't assist each other (as far as a chance to happen.)
-
Well, the goal is to "eventually" get all appropriate sets (or types, at least) proliferated to the appropriate ATs. Some changes will, of course, occur - Dominators, for instance, have Psi Assault, not Psy Blast, because of how their sets are set up, and redside got pain dom for thematic reasons.
I'm sure it'll be seen eventually in one form or another. Though I'd like to see /poison's poison trap made *actually useful.* -
I'm always happy to throw my characters at anyone who wants practice - dont' care about WIPs, as long as they help.

Quote:/allofthis.I run 3 top 30 SG's on my server I have 20mill+ prestige on each that is doing nothing.. so I am not baised when I say the this:
I think they should do away with prestige entirely. we don't need a ranking system as it does nothing really..
I think things you want in a SG base should be earned by the SG by doing SG missions from the Base computer. It would be much more fun and provide a reason for the SG as a whole to have an investment in the base other than trying to get prestige. This might enforce new SG bades to allow the system to let the base builders include the stuff earned. To me that would be much more fun
(yeah this will require them to fix the base computer to actually do that lol) Hero side we have had that SG mission computer since i6 and it has not worked almost the whole time. On redside you can do the Silver Mantis SF from it but there is no SG/VG benefit that it brings either.
This (SG Computer) is an untapped resource that I think the Devs should try to exploit/fix more.
I was somewhat disappointed to see there was no link between AE and the Mission Computer, at the least. I've got one mission out there that, while generally well received by even non SG members who have played it, is really one of our RPs altered for AE playability. Having something like that "stored" in the mission computer, at the very least, would be nice. (Though I do acknowledge the various difficulties, including monitoring for exploit-using farms, this would entail.)
I don't believe any of my heroside SGs have the mission computer - and I've seen a lot of good ideas about the sorts of things it can be used FOR. I'd love to see an SG-centric issue (not just bases) at some point, where the mission computer is put more to use, more stuff is gotten by playing in SG mode (and, even more SG-centric, playing with other SG members, though I again realize the difficulties for single person to small SGs,) and more.
