Quote:Because:I can't help but feel that the Concealment Pool and Stealth in particular need some fixes. Given that you can turn any movement power to Stealth with 80 or so mil, why pick Stealth over Combat Jumping except for concept reasons, especially when CJ buffs your movement speed and offer immob protection? I'm aware that the whole pool is awesome as a mule for LoTG, but can't see why Stealth needs that speed debuff. I seems kinda outdated and all, now that you can replicate most of the pool with temp powers and IOs without wasting a single power choice.
1. Not everyone wants to dump 80 million into an IO, even if they have it,
2. Stealth gives you a place to slot OTHER IOs, including KB protection,
3. Not everyone wants combat jumping, for whatever reason you threw that into the mix,
4. Stealth is available at level 6, and IOs are not,
5. Stealth unlocks Invisibility and Phase Shift (though, to me, the last one *is* worthless, given you can get a good number of temp powers to replicate it - barring PVP use,)
6. You can stack Stealth and that IO,
7. There are times you may want that travel/combat power without being stealthy, which makes the IO work against you, depending on where you slotted it. (See also "Hostage gets lost.") Stealth you can independently toggle on/off. -
Quote:Specifically, it'll say "You cannot befriend an enemy."/friend SuperAwesomeGuy will tell you if the name is taken (because you can only friend existing characters). You can't friend characters of an opposite faction, but it should give you an error message if you try (which would tell you that the name is taken on the opposite side).
I tend to use this on occasion, yes. -
Pay ahead of time if you can and that's a worry to you. One of my accounts expires two days before the end of this. (One of my accounts expires two days before the end of this, and that's what I'm doing.)

Quote:If that other character didn't mapserv as well (you give them INF, they go to the base, you do whatever and get rolled back,) it *shouldn't* remove it from them. Their character wouldn't be getting resetSo lets say you glee mail a million inf to an alt/somebody else then got the roll back . . . . would that other character you gave the money too get it taken away from them?
However, if that starts getting abused, I'd expect action to be taken (like, oh, the entire server/all servers being rolled back, if it got too bad, or at the very least a manual "reset" of those characters.) -
See every previous discussion where it was pointed out the devs are against this - not a "we'd like to but can't," not "technical limitations," but flat out "no."
Besides, if they DID open the door to doing "just" the secondary, we'd then hit a flood of "Why not the primary too/instead?"
Just no. -
Quote:Oh, but they're working on giant raids now. You can have confidence in those. They'll work perfectly. Trust the devs.Ok, what the HELL man! Complated the LRSF after working around the bugs in mission 1. LRSF completed, first time ever for me. Crafted my Rare Alpha.
ENTIRE TEAM disconnects. We ALL lose our rewards. All of them.
Who the hell let this through onto live? Because you should be SHOT, you incompetant bloody nimrod!
This is a complete farce. Seriously.
(I'd like to know if the same thing was happening on test, actually.) -
Quote:You see it as a penalty. I don't. *shrug* Though both of our views end up fitting the slider mentioned above perfectly well.Or, a better idea;
Turn off the prestige/inf penalty.
Seriously. What's the flaming point of penalising people for playing in SG mode? I'm sure this made some wonderful logic to Mr Emmert during his rule, but it makes bugger all sense to me as a player and SG member. The two are not paralel quantities. Inf is for you, prestige is for the SG. Why should one affect the other? It's stupid, pointless and arbitrary, and I can't stand any of those three.
INF has, admittedly, recently been "officially demoted" to just plain money, but when painted as a measure of acclaim, it makes "sense" (just follow me here) that if you go "Yes, I was the one that stopped Dr. McEvilSon!" (non SG mode,) you'd get all the recognition. But if you take a step back and say "But I couldn't have done it without the support of Hero People!" (SG mode) they get a spot in the limelight as well.
(What *would* make more sense with that sort of thing, though, is a "notoriety meter," which fills somewhat slowly as you do good things and can provide you with a (quickly disappearing) discount ... or you can turn it in for more Prestige or special items for the SG.)
What I *do* see as particularly pointless is the "Top 100 list" at the registrar. Some group has more Prestige earned... so what? Doesn't mean they're actually a good group. That whole interface needs revamped anyway (for finding a group, contacting leaders, etc) but that won't happen - the devs need to find a way to whip up a 300 person raid for some bit of salvage, after all. -
Quote:All of them.Is there like a dedicated server where people actually do missions instead of chilling in atlas spamming for farms?
Ask around. Head to your server's forum down below and check out the global channels. Join a good supergroup. Hook up with a group like Repeat Offenders. And don't overlook AE - it's not "just farms" or the like. Create some of your own, check the ones listed in the MA section or peoples signatures, have fun with it. -
Probably just for the sake of not cluttering or overcomplicating things.
After all, people complain about recipes *now.* Gettign "Jetpack (Sky raider)" then "Jetpack (Goldbricker)" and Jetpack (Wyvern)" "Jetpack (Jingle Jet)" would get a bit... irksome, I think.
Now, available as temp powers from vendors... maybe that'd work. -
Quote:I just use "Snausages" in that instance. It gets peoples attention. Maybe not in a good way, but I'm sure y'all can understand... >.>"You" is plural, referring to a group. "Thou" is singular, referring to an individual. However, as in many languages, "You" was also used to be a formal singular, and in time, the formal became the norm, and we lost the distinction between "thou" and "you". Because of this, people have been inventing other words to replace the lost usage of "you"; "y'all" (or "you all") seems to be winning the popularity contest these days.
(I <3 little tangents like this. And the one that gets me - "All y'all." *sigh*) -
Quote:Yeah - but on the other hand, that would likely be even MORE of a mess.I really wish they'd be consistant when adding new stuff, like costume parts and badges, and just add them to the end of the list.
Had another that insisted my (nice, old fashioned) armored gloves should suddenly be rubber gloves. Given the rubber gloves are newer.... no, I don't want to know just how they add things/figure this out/etc. -
Quote:Now imagine that, in order to graduate, you *had* to have a letter in band, another letter in sports, and have held a position on the school newspaper, as opposed to the *optional* position they currently hold (where you *can* play sports, join the chess club or whatever, or you can ignore it.)See the difference here is you see a penalty where I do not. You are not penalized by not teaming, you just don't earn certain rewards. When I was in high school, you earned a letter from playing on a sport's team or joining the band. There was no requirement in the school's rules that you had to join a team, but if you wanted to wear the school's emblem you had to play on a team (or play an instrument in an ensemble).
That's what's being done here.
No teaming? You don't get the extra enhancements, pseudo-levels and powers. You get to stay a junior, going back to the school metaphor. Doesn't matter if you're getting straight As in your classes, even taking AP/prep courses, *you don't play baseball/play in band, etc, you don't graduate.*
Sounds penalizing to me.
(And, as an aside, if I wanted to 'wear the school's emblem," all I ever had to do was go to the school store and buy a T-shirt, backpack, hat, or whatever. Still can, in fact, via the alumni association.) -
Quote:Great if you're doing a study. Out in the real world, people make those bonds anyway. The people I regularly play with, I do so because we enjoyed doing so. Not because we HAD to do it. We needed no coaxing from the devs. Flip side, there are people I've *had* to group with because I wanted to do some content. (Choice, but TFs are, barring IO builds, etc, "team required,") who I've never seen again (and in some cases didn't want to.)Absolutely the wrong question.
The proper question is "What reasoning is there to encourage players, via increased and exclusive rewards, to group?"
The reasoning is to strengthen the social bonds that players create in-game. Let me share a couple of papers with you: http://www.contemporary-media.co.uk/...ssertation.pdf AND http://www.trinity.edu/adelwich/worl...ris.taylor.pdf
Now if they'd study the difference between "Hey, guys, want to play some baseball?" and "YOU ###### WILL PLAY ###### BASEBALL OR ELSE!" which is more relevant (see: "Play Trials Or Be Locked Out") to the discussion. Maybe YOU like being told what to do. I tend to find being forced through something makes the experience less enjoyable, not more. -
Quote:Ignoring some MMOs that auto-group you (ugh, hated that in STO,) how is "I got a blind invite and accepted" any more of an action than "I got a blind invite and declined?" BOTH are decisions. BOTH lead to actions - in one, I click accept and do whatever (and, honestly, usually get LESS of a reward, as I'm not getting the merits, etc. for finishing his arc,) in another, I send a reply. They involve different steps (and sometimes repeatedly, in the case of someone who REPEATEDLY sends you the same invite until you put them on ignore, even when you tell them you're not interested,) but both require decisions and actions. Some people have, in fact, accused the devs of essentially bribing people to not play the game. Not factoring in the fact most players cannot play 24 hours a day and cannot play mroe than one alt per account at a time.
That's tangential to the point I was making, though, which is that most content-related activities are rewarded, so if people have to be bribed to team, they have to be bribed to play as well.
Of course, the whole notion that people have to be bribed to team is nonsense. MMOs don't reward teaming because otherwise people wouldn't team. MMOs like most games award actions. Joining and playing on a team is an action. Choosing not to team is a decision, not an action. Teaming requires the extra activity of finding, joining, and playing on a team. Its rewarded accordingly. That separate from the fact that teaming is desired in MMOs collectivly, even if its not mandatory, and thus a legitimate activity to reward on that basis.
I'm sure someone will come along to say that soloing is an equal activity to teaming, but that completely misses the point. By even soloers definitions, teaming requires additional effort, even if that effort is limited to making one extra decision and taking one extra action on that basis. Teaming is the superset activity: its play where the number of team members is greater than one.
Saying teaming requires more work by virtue of being "teaming" is a faulty argument.
Now, if you'd said FORMING a team requires more work, sure. Then you ARE looking for people, etc, etc, etc. But teaming on its own is not. -
Quote:(A) How many people actually use the forums? Might as well ask in a coffeeshop for opinions and say that's what the rest of New York thinks. While everyone here has a valid reason for Handclap.
Admit it, how many times have you actually seen it used ingame or seen it suggested that people take it in any of the powerset guides?
So yes it does come under the heading of least used power, just because there is a use for it does not mean that it actually gets used.
(B) I take and use things like Dimension Shift and Black Hole, Yet, if you were teaming with me, you may never see them used. I tend to use powers to different amounts when I'm teamed vs solo. In fact, they may not be ON my team build. Just because you're not seeing them used teamed (where, after all, that tank may not hit that situation - again, "situational power,") doesn't mean they don't use it on smaller teams or when solo. -
Quote:Born and raised in WI. Living in FL.Pshaw. I'm Michigan born and raised. I give a damn about Winter weather?
The amusement value of people complaining how COLD it is (and "How can you wear a T-shirt, it's FIFTY THREE DEGREES!") doesn't lessen much. (And yeah, I'd rather be back somewhere with seasons other than "Wet," "Hot," and "Tourist.") -
Quote:"Situational power." Such as "All these cold users are in melee and slowing down my recharge, I can't heal. *Hand clap, get several seconds to do what you need before regathering.*The Handclap and clones would be right up there as well.
Considering they're on melee characters, characters who have things like Auras which actually give benefits to having large groups of people in melee range (Invincibility, Against all odds etc.) OR have a damage aura (Static field, Blazing Aura etc.) having an attack which does Knockback really doesn't mesh well with actual mechanics of the ATs using them.
Quote:The Bruiser MM version got changed to a Knockdown so why not do it for all the rest. In my 4+ years playing I honestly don't think I've seen someone take Handclap or one of the clones, actually rarely, they're used as a set mule for purples (Lightning clap has access to the 2nd cheapest purple set of all, Stun, only the Sleep purple set is cheaper). -
A power can be reworked without violating the cottage rule. For example, Energize gained a heal while retaining its original purpose of an END discount, and Temperature Protection (formerly a "free power pick" as there was no real reason to grab it) in Fiery Aura got Slow/-Rech protection.
Bit of history:
Not all that long ago, at least to me, the devs decided to rework patron pools. They'd noticed some powers being 'unpopular' and decided to replace them. That didn't go over so well - for instance, my Ice/Psy/Mace dom was going to have the Mace AOE replaced by something completely useless to me, PFF. Every change irritated someone. End result? 5 powers in the PPPs.
As far as the OP, well, the devs don't have to "start" datamining. They've got the data already, and can and will use it if/when they decide to look at a powerset, giving it more weight than the general noise on the forums.I doubt they'll release that info, but yes, time bomb needs a bit of love, as does poison trap in MM's /poison set.

How about no. Yeah, "no" sounds good. I'll take "no."

Well, this has gotten to be even more irritating of a (minor) issue this weekend.
Dear NCSoft:
Please don't assume your playerbase is either (a) psychic or (b) reading and remembering your patch notes.
My most sent tell this weekend has got to be "Sorry, I'm already on a team." It's great that you color coded this stuff - it's NOT so great when people have no idea what they mean.
Yes, the colors are in the patch notes. Anyone actually believe the majority of players read the things to begin with? Even if they're active when the specific patch is released?
Yes, they're on the wiki. See comments on patch notes.
How about adding (a) a key and (b) a filter to the search window so people can tell WHILE THEY'RE SEARCHING that, "oh, that person's on a team, that person's leading one" and so forth - instead of just thinking (as one person told me) they thought it was like the chat window name colors, just random. -
Quote:Erg. I have one of those and can't stand the combo. >.< Actually made it back when Sonic had the old shields specifically because I wouldn't be taking them, and was looking into alternative powers to slot there (think I took the Presence fears, etc. for some more control.)I also leveled a Ill/sonic troller, which may not be that odd but haven't seen another one on my home server.
I went through a point where I took combinations that were popular in one AT and put them on another AT - so I have a few fire/kins (corrupter, tank,) fire/rad (corrupter,) or I'd do the reverse of a FOTM (Ice/Energy was a popular blaster, so I've got an Energy/Ice, for instance.) -
Well, THIS is interesting...
Decided to tweak a character's power customization (it's not consistent across the three costumes.) Went in, did the tweak on one, saved it and went to costume 2. While in costume 2 (nothing fancy, nothing changed in a while,) I notice the tailor's charging 14k to change ... something.
Go in, hit reset. Nada.
Exit tailor, come back. Nope, no change, no individual categories have a "reset" either.
Check outfit 1. Same thing - with different pieces. Different category all together (skirt instead of tights.)
For the heck of it, save the two, load them into a character for AE - which accepts the pieces as perfectly valid (no "cannot load" or "cannot find pieces.") /Bug it.
Went onto another character with a very basic outfit - same thing (but it costs 140,000 .... on THREE categories.) Same with nothing being able to be reset, and nothing showing as generic (as I've had some old costumes do after a change - going from something to basic tights, for instance.)
Both were female. Logged into a male character - same thing (but 500,000 - level 50 character.) No changes made, nothing to reset. Another costume, third slot (the first character did that on the second,) and it does the head, top and bottom slots (at 500,000 each).
Went to a new server. (Those were on victory, so I picked Triumph.)
Character 4, female, hero, bottoms were showing a charge (and a change, the boots.) Reset would swap the boots, but not put the pattern on. Manually putting the same pattern on still left a 4900 inf charge for staying exactly the same.
Character 5, male, villain, one outfit was fine, a second one had a 12300 INF charge for no change with nothing resettable (and looking exactly as he does otherwise.)
Since I've been going to the same tailor (cap, first one in the south door) for the villains for consistency, I tried Trina with this character - no change, still a charge for nothing.
Switch accounts. Same thing... except when hitting reset on the individual pieces, on this character on two outfits insists on switching to costume pieces not on any of her outfits. (Hitting "reset" on the category does nothing.)
Something's screwy in Tailorville.
(Edit: Just to say, this has nothing to do with the cost *per se* of these changes. I could do those without an issue - I have characters with 70+ free costume change tokens of one sort or another. It's more "There's something wrong in the underlying system/database" that I want to bring to dev attention. Though going through 200+ characters - CIT shows 248, most with multiple costumes, and checking and fixing *each one* would be more than a little irritating.) -
Well, I've had two contact window crashes - one working on an AE arc, one doing the "origin of power" arc - window starts to open, game freezes, "Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered," game dies. Both today.
Going to tackle the usual culprits - the machine's well maintained, drivers fairly recent and working fine but I'll look there anyway, just has not done this before, period.
