Quote:Not what he means.I'll /sign this.
I know it seems kind of... Defeating of the point of shield defense to allow for there to be a 'no shield' option, but it would also open up the concept to a lot of other players who like shield defense's mechanics (namely shield charge), but the idea of the character using a shield doesn't work.
This could, perhaps, even open up shield defense to sets that normally wouldn't allow for it. like claws and katana.
For instance, I have a ("Endurance, what endurance?") Shield/Stone tank. Hurl Boulder in there uses a single arm rip-up-and-throw. It looks... impressive. (I don't think the mallets work quite so well as a single arm animation without a shield, but.. *shrug* that's me.)
He's not talking about Shield Defense without the shield, he's talking about the paired sets that use an alternate animation from their normal two-handed one. -
"Take all the IOs off" isn't going to happen, at least by stated dev stances. Of course, they don't tend to need replacing all that often, as opposed to gear-based games with replacements/repairs/etc.
Part of the complaint you seem to have about respeccing, as well, is personal preference (mids/market/IO) - I tend to use a second build and SO it (which works just fine, thanks - did the incarnate arc on a few,) and if I have to tweak, do it there - then either transfer it (which uses most of the same IOs) or start working whatever new sets, etc. I want into it. (No, I'm not one of the multi-billion-inf folks. But I am patient.)
Plus, look at the characters and figure out if they "all" really need a respec or not. Is the build perfectly fine with regular Fitness? Then why respec? It works just fine - I'm leaving a couple of characters with it alone, because I'm happy with how they are now.
Some of the other games out there - no, haven't run either you've talked of - can afford to be "more lenient," as they have fewer powers to go with the gear, or they have other restrictions (Guild Wars - only 8 powers available at any time, swap them out in town, for instance.)
Now, there are some tweaks that could be done to the process - like remembering what sets were where, or setting up "templates" to apply, or just letting you swap slots around, absolutely. But along with that, I'd say consider why you're actually respeccing and if the specific characters really "need" it. -
Quote:That was not bashing the poster. However, the "Blasters that go into melee DIE!" is just what it was portrayed as - laughable.Geeze, Bill. Way to be a ****. Seriously, he seems like a new enough poster. No need to go bashing him.
Quote:Also, all blaster secondaries are melee? I doubt it.
Electric - 7 of 9 powers are melee/PBAOE, the exceptions being Build Up and Fence.
Energy - 5 of 9, with the rest being purely utility.
Fire - 6 or 7, depending on how you want to count Burn, with the same exceptions as Elec.
Ice - Shiver is FINALLY something actually ranged besides the immob. Still five or six, depending on how you want to count Ice Patch (still PBAOE, but can be left in place.)
Mental - the most "ranged" with the now-unsurprising to anyone who pays the least attention Immob, Psy scream and Scare. Five powers are STILL PBAOE/Melee.
So, yes, I'd say it's pretty safe to say that "Most blaster secondaries are designed for melee" and, like I said, ignoring melee means you're not using half your ability - your secondary, pretty much.
Simple enough for you?
Know why ELSE I say it? Experience. Because my first 50 WAS a Blaster, elec/elec, and initially I *DID* do just what he said - "Melee? No, I'm squishy, I'm running away!" Then I actually paid attention to my secondary and became MUCH more effective. And this is before Defiance 2.0 - even 1.0, back in Issue 3, and has held true since.
I'm not talking "theory" here or "from looking at some power chart." -
I think, then, that instead of trying for these rather broken ATs, you should take your blaster build (download Glycerine from cit.cohtitan.com, have it export the build,) start a thread in the Blaster boards and ask how you can make it better, as well as any tips for playing the character that will help you survive.

Quote:/this.The devs decision to minimize the impact Origins have on the game was the correct thing to do and it's too late to go back and screw things up now.
Plus, we know there are four things that define a character that are unchangeable -
AT
Primary Powerset
Secondary powerset
Origin
I suspect that Origin is baked into the foundation *so* deeply because of how the game was in, oh, Alpha when they DID make a difference. While it doesn't now, it likely (again, guess on my part) is such a foundational part of "what defines a character" that changing things to LET us change that would probably break things in new and interesting ways.
Personally, I'd hate going through my 250+ characters and having to decide if the origin "buff" is right for them or not. Leave it be. The only thing I'd like to see happen with origin are like your second point - arcs or the occasional, specific mission ("X group is interested in people of Y sort of powers - that means you. You may want to go in and erase their data on you...") -

The pet bug is not part of anything going on with a Hero's Epic. It can bite a MM at pretty much any time they zone. It's been an ongoing issue that they REALLY should have fixed by now.
You'll need to /releasepets (not just dismiss) and resummon/reupgrade.
Yes, it's irritating. -
-
Just give them names. *shrug* I tend to see agent, operative, etc.
-
*yawn* Sorry. Misread as a stalker anesthetic option and fell asleep.
-
hmmmmm.
Very few of my characters have "an object" I'd associate with them. My first 50 (blaster) and her follow-on Peacebringer... probably the buckle of the "jewel" belt. My thugs/poison, a coin. Ice/psy dom? An arrowhead - Wyvern killed her (decidedly normal) fiance' trying to take her down in a surprise raid, so that tends to stick with her.
Other than those... *shrug* -

Quote:According to CIT, I have about 250 characters. Some share a name. Some are just remakes of an older character that, because they match a theme elsewhere or whatnot, are on multiple servers. Some share a name and nothing else. And I almost never name them related to their powersets (on rare occasion, yes.)Frankly, unless you have multiple full servers, I don't see the need. How can you not remember what they are, by the names alone?
Did you give generic names to all your characters?
Do you not play them?
I know each of my characters powersets by the name alone--and that's not to say that I name them specifically according to their powersets, but that each one is memorable. Different costumes help as well.
If knowing the name and AT doesn't give you enough info...perhaps you should delete the character? I don't imagine you play it all that much.
There are times I'll look and go "which sets did this one have." Or I'll scan through to find a specific set a team could use.
Personally, I like the idea. -
Quote:/this.For new characters the team starts in the Atlas Park or Galaxy City Sewers and does one of two things. Either fight their way to the lowest level on the map or Pick an exit and fight their way to it. In both cases players will battle ever increasing opponents and rack up 6-10 levels.
If they get to the lowest level of the sewers they usually take the death express back to AP or GC. If they choose to fight to an exit they can come out in Kings Row, Steel Canyon, Skyway City, or Boomtown.
In any case they can be a lot of fun.
IIRC the enemies there start with Hellions and Vahzilok - and the Vahz slows (and exploding zombies) are nasty to run into when you have only 2-3 powers total. You run into Lost (and mezzing Anathema) just as you start going "Ha, we can take them now!"
Then at 35 or so, enter the sewers and take the door to the right, entering the Abandoned Sewers. Play with Hydra, Rikti and COT, find the plaque (hmm... come to think of it, it's been a while since I've tracked that down) and - did they ever fix the Hydra trial? Regardless, you can fight your way to the starting point for that. -
Quote:Ask stalkers how well this works. One DOT going - either way - and you're remembered.let me clarify more:
the deflector's negative taunt powers will last about as long as a typical hold and have about the same recharge time. the whole point of negative taunt is simply, if they get low on health they can make the enemy forget they are there and run away to recuperate.
Quote:the destroyer; we've been requesting a non-squishy ranged at for a while, if you'll note, the compromise that they came to for the kheldians and such was random kheldian, nictus and void stalker spawns.
Quote:I honestly would rather have to back up and fire from a distance (which is what the blasters that live do anyways)
Heh.
Bwahahaha....
Riiiight. Obviously nobody ever uses the nuke (melee range for most sets,) or most of their secondary (which is all - ready? - *melee.*) "Blasters that live" do damage, then do more damage to follow up, possibly with a bit of control thrown in. They don't "run away" if something comes into melee. They hit it *hard.* (Most of the more *damaging* ST attacks are melee range.) Any blaster whose response to "Something is getting closer" is "Run awaaaaay!" is a blaster that's not even using 1/2 of their ability.
"Blasters that live run away." Need to tell that to a friend of mine who was basically tanking with hers. She could probably use a good laugh.
Quote:Executioner;with high enough damage and enough AoE yes they will take some damage but they will most likely finish the mob before it does any significant damage, further more on a team with a tank, that tank can hold aggro and let them clear freely.
No. Absolutely not. -
For future reference (and installing test,) BillZBubba wrote up a guide for this, as well.

Quote:Atlas (or Galaxy) - group of lowbies (so *fun* at level 1!) hop into the sewers.Sewer teams? o.O
What are they...?
Seriously, i have *never* been on one...
Eight go in.
One goes "Hurry back from hosp, I have team tp - wait, need to train. Death Express for me!" -
Quote:Fortunately, I work at home. Had I been at some of the places I'd worked, even with a lenient "If you're not busy and want to browse, go for it" policy, wakkawa's pieces would definitely have had my supervisors talking to me *at least,* even with a single click on the link and backing off. Just takes one person walking by and complaining.I used to, but a number of people complained even when I posted NSFW. Damned if you do, damned if you don't
Put up the warning, it *is* common courtesy. See that, don't click while at work - thus, NS*FW.*
(FWIW, I've been checking in on them for a while, they end up with some interesting pieces.) -
No. Any KB Protection/Reduction simply improves your resistance to being knocked back.
-
I think you really need to rethink these.
The "Deflector" - what do they do solo? By your description, they *cannot* defeat anything on their own. Not "It can take a while," but cannot, period.
The "Destroyer" - why would I play this? Can't attack in melee range? I can pick powers and not have them work? There's no "minimum range" on any power now - my blaster can work through a full ranged attack chain at an inch from an enemy's face. Why would I pick something that I have to run away to do anything with?
The "Executor" - Go find a low level Tank or Scrapper - like, oh, JUST when they get into the Hollows. Run them at a group of Circle with a Madness Mage (spawns around level 5 or so.) Note yourself standing there, unable to do anything, because (a) you don't have range and (b) you have no mez protection or, really, ANY armor. Now imagine trying to drag through *another 45 levels* of that. They're not going to "stay standing" by their damage output if they can't stay standing or activate any powers.
No. Just... no.
As for your "job descriptions," well, the current ATs - sometimes several - can handle them right now. -
-
We don't need more slots - and I say this as someone who's played a (usually triform) Kheldian since issue 3-4 (think I finally unlocked it in 4.)
There are a good number of powers that work perfectly well on a single slot. Look into them. Sometimes they're good "special IO" mules, too - need KB protection? More recharge? Stealth, Combat Jumping, etc. all fit the bill and don't need slotting.
Also, don't forget IOs - yes, you can chase sets, but you can also "frankenslot," mixing and matching from different sets to get more "value" per slot than using straight enhancements.
Add to that the Alpha slot - while not doing much good for much exemping, give consideration as to what you're going to pick up if you choose to stay at 50 and plan your slotting around that at that level. -
