  1. You do know that NPR has podcasts so you can listen to shows you might have missed. Hours and hours of material.

    Thor: Trailer 2

I just keep watching this a couple times a day. Can not wait.

The GL trailer on the other hand left me unimpressed. I'll go see it but this summer is all about Thor and Cap.

    Khtf

I just ran one last weekend and didn't really see a significant increase in the time. The only difference is you actually have to kill all on the way in and that only increases the time by about 5 minutes. Variation in the techniques used against Mary create much larger time differences than that.

    Great Interview

I hadn't thought of that but yeah. And I absolutely love the wild card series. The real difference here is that the Wild Cards group actually were established authors but this group was basically formed from role players with Melissa being the only author.

    Great Interview

There is a podcast I listen to regularly. Dragon Page cover to cover. They regularly interview authors and in a recent episode #441 they interviewed our own Mercedes Lackey. For those of you who aren't familiar with her then first of all shame on you. But second of all she is a very prolific and skilled fantasy author. She is also a regular player of this game and a guest author for one of the Mission Architect arcs.

In the interview she spends about the first quarter of it talking about her new fantasy book that is coming out but then she gets really excited and starts to talk about her CoH group and their podcast.

Once again if you aren't familiar with it Mercedes joined a rp group long ago. As they got to know each other better she recruited the best and brightest of the group and began a podcast based on their heroes. They did it the right way too. They completely stripped out any resemblance to their city of heroes characters and just started writing about a world with superheroes.

Well now it seems that the podcast (which is going to continue) is also going to be released as a series of books. So when The Secret World Chronicles come out in book form you'll have the opportunity to support several of our own players.

Until then you can find the interview at Dragon Page episode 441 of the podcast. And you can also listen to the entire 4 years worth of the Secret World Chronicle Podcast

And I myself would just like to say Congratulations to Misty and the others. It's always great to see another source of superhero fiction coming from people who truly love the genre.
  6. Rubberbanding and mapserving aren't the game. The rubberbanding especially is an indication of this. Somewhere between you and the server there is something slowing down and losing packets. If it's just you seeing it then it's probably your router or your provider. If multiple people are seeing it then there is probably a major node somewhere along the path having problems.

Agreed. I used to miss my favorite shows all the time until I got the DVR version of my Directv receiver. So much better than any of the old style recorders since it does automatically adjust to schedule changes and knows if it's an old or new episode.
  8. First of all make sure you are quitting the game through the menu. As in using the menu/quit/quit to desktop option. Or you can just type /quit and then choose to quit to desktop. If you are shutting down the game in any other way then next time you start it will fix the entire game which can sometimes take almost as long as downloading it from the start. Looking at your past posts you've had this exact same problem in the past. What did you do to fix it then?

As for the in game stuff please post the results of these two programs.

    CoHHelper and Hijackthis

That will let us know what your game settings are and how capable of running the game your system is.
  9. Here is a hint on picking servers. When you log into the game the servers are ordered from top to bottom from lightest load to highest load. Although load also figures in things like how many zone events are taking place it primarily matches how high the population is at the time. So if you just randomly picked the server at the top of the list then you picked the server that was least busy at the moment.

Once you have played a character then the last server you played on will always be the top one on the list but the others are still in order from least to most busy.

Freedom and Virtue are always the two most busy servers. Freedom consists mostly of power gamer types. People who play the game to be playing a game and to gain levels and enhancements. And unfortunately the least intelligent of those types tend to be the most vocal. Freedom has many good players but thanks to the broadcast chatter in Atlas it has come to be known as Freedumb. Don't be discouraged by any braindead or openly hostile chatter you may see there though. As I said Freedom has many good players. You just have to sift through a lot of chaff to get to them.

Virtue is the unofficial role playing server. Most people there are very friendly and eager to help out newcomers. There are some players though who look down on anybody who doesn't role play or role plays poorly by their standards. These types are easily avoided since they tend to congregate in the same exact groups and spend all their time rping in pocket D. There are also however many roleplayers who are open to interacting with anybody whether roleplayer or not.

I myself primarily play on Virtue and only roleplay occasionally. Despite it being the roleplaying server you pretty much have to actively look for a roleplaying team if you want to be on one. It's not likely to happen casually.

    Necroposting

    My two cents.

I think that a necro post no matter how old should be considered ok so long as it starts generating (or regenerating I suppose) a genuine discussion. If you look at the "How do you name a character" thread it fits perfectly. It was a necropost but immediately fired up interest with multiple people giving their take on the question.

When on the other hand the new posts in the thread mostly consist of statements about resurrecting the dead and forum rules then it should be locked.

And I think some Moderators take the zero tolerance policy approach using only the rules and not common sense. They are the types who would expel a 10 year old from school for bringing a gun to class. A 1 inch long gun that belonged to one of their Transformers toys.
  11. I would like to see this but I would like to see it expanded. First it should be impossible to delete. It should also not be possible to place on the market. If you want to trade you have to do so live.

And now what and why on the expansion. It should be made so that you could buy a token for ANY item sold in the store. ! month time, Going Rogue, Expansion pack, Character slot, Server transfer etc etc etc...

How many times have you wished that you could give away one of these things as a gift but been completely unable to because if you purchase an expansion it is immediately applied to your account? Ever seen somebody in the forums or in game talking about how much they really want something and wished you could give it to them as a gift?

And this should actually reduce rmt. There are plenty of people who would gladly pay a large amount of inf for an expansion pack but no rmt type will go for that deal. They are after the cash, not more in game goodies.
  12. Ok, asking you one question at a time is like pulling teeth. So run these two programs.

    CoHHelper and Hijackthis

This will show us your settings, how much memory you have available, which programs might be interfering, if all your drivers are correctly updated etc...
  13. I'll almost always create the costume and powerset first then come up with the name. I'll base the name on one of four things.

    1. A pun. Mandu for instance was one of my first characters. He's a cat man hence Cat Mandu. Another example a mind/storm controller Ellen Mental. Both a reference to her mind powers and a play on elemental for her storm powers.

    2. An animal or object name based on what the powerset resembles. So my sonic blaster who had gold battle armor became Goldfinch. I then altered the color pattern of her armor slightly so it matched the coloring of a goldfinch.

    3. A name related in some way based on some aspect of the powerset. For instance my archer. Every archery name in existence seems to have been taken or is a clear ripoff of an existing comic character. So I looked at the aspects of his power. Not much there. He fires sticks with points on the end. However that little thing managed to bring his name forward. Pointillist, he makes art with points.

    4. Personality or ethical path. My Praetorian who believes that neither good nor evil matter, only complete freedom and his goal is to figure out a way to impose that freedom on his world. Chaos Theoretician.

There is a 5th naming convention I use but that's just to pick what the character is and so the names aren't available often. I seriously lucked out with Escrimadora for instance.

    Help Please

Take the updater out of that directory and move it elsewhere, anywhere really. Then create a new shortcut to it with the -test extension or else change the current shortcut with the -test extension to point at its new location. Then proceed as normally including selecting the test directory as the one to install in.
  15. Good episode but I am really really getting tired of them making the most powerful member of the group into the useless clown. I'm talking about Kid Flash of course. The writers seem to think his abilities seem to consist of traveling quickly between cities and being a mediocre martial artist.
  16. Well if you don't just limit it to comic books Eartha Kitt was playing Catwoman in the 60s.
  17. Post the results of these CoHHelper and Hijackthis That way we can see what hardware you have, what graphics settings you have, and if there are any programs running which are known to interfere.

Also, what exactly is it in the image that is bothering you? Still images don't often convey the impact of something going on in game.
  18. Hm. Very casual player here. Only a few hours on the weekend and I don't spend it all on one character. I haven't even tired to equip any of my 50s with purples. So I guess the incarnate path is not for me. I suppose I'll be sticking to rolling up a new character when one of mine hits 50.

Grinding anything makes a game work, not play. And I get enough of that during the week.

Doesn't matter that I'll be missing out on the TFs that require the extra goodies. I tend to avoid them most the time anyway since nobody ever wants to actually "play" through the TF any more. It's all about getting a Master Of in the fastest time possible.

And no I'm not being jealous and snippy (or whatever). I know tone doesn't come across in text form so I'll tell you now that my tone is simply "meh". I'll still have fun. I'll just be having solo fun once I hit 50 on a character. Hey! Get your mind out of the gutter.
  19. They are saving WTF for the War witch Task Force. Of course they will probably actually abbreviate it as WWTF.
  20. The Praetorian versions of the missions will be slightly different.

The Resistance mission will need a Loyalist to open and drink a can of Enriche.

The Loyalist will need a Resistance member to set off a nuke and kill everybody in Pocket D.
  21. I vote that the length of any cutscene be inversely based on the amount of time it took in mission to get to that cutscene.

So if for instance somebody were to pass through the STF at a moderate pace then the cutscene would remain as it is.

If the team had dawdled through the mission taking long breaks to chat or rp then Aeon would merely wave at the camera and say "Don't want to take up any of your time guys so I'll just say "Good luck, we're all counting on you".

And lastly if the team had sped through the TF up till this point setting some kind of speed record then after his speech Aeon will sit down at a table with the AVs and play a leisurely game of dominos.

    Chuck 1-31-2011

I love this show but that stupid spider security thing just annoyed the crap out of me. Chuck often skirts the borders of reality so far as gadgetry goes but that just went too far.

But about some of the other stuff. I think it's possible that whoever did the Orion message put some sort of code in it. Not a code as in part of the series but a code as in the writer or fx guy slipping some sort of in joke into the message. When cycling from the message to the name Orion the first 3 characters are F10 followed by a couple spaces and then rapidly cycling 5 character groups. MJJCR YJJOR (something)LLER and IFFYB. It could be random but considering the geekiness of the show I have a feeling it's not.
