  1. Tonights episode of Chuck was the definition of synchronicity. In the opening minutes the gang at the Buy More was talking about going to Vegas for Chucks bachelor party. When Morgan asked Casey which casino he was going to start with Casey replied "Forget the casinos. Best thing about Vegas are the gun ranges. Brought some of my fancy targets." He then opened a folder and showed them the targets. A picture of Bin Laden pointing a pistol and with a bullseye on his forehead.

And I'll argue again that they really haven't fired all that many shots since the start of the series. Very few episodes have involved combat (as opposed to the other SG series where almost every episode involved fire fights) and when they were in combat it was usually only a couple of the soldiers firing. John Scalzi the creative consultant for the show outright told them at the start they would have to count how many rounds the characters fired because they would have a limited ammunition supply. I have to admit however that your near obsession with this has guaranteed that when I watch the series over from the start I will be keeping track of shots fired.

I thought of this too but then I realized that suits are generally made to withstand not worse case scenarios but expected conditions. And I doubt if the ancients considered direct exposure to the light of a blue giant at close range was even a possibility.
  3. Change the name to World of Heroes. Then hire Keanu Reeves to do a commercial.

Ok, so they somehow manage to open a gate that not only connects with Earth but connects with it in the past. Then they find that Pittsburgh was destroyed by drones.

There has never in all the previous Stargate series been a gate located in Pittsburgh and on top of that in that time period the Goa'uld would have seen active stargates and would have gone to war with the drones. This was just plain a stupid premise for an episode.

JUST KIDDING! I just thought I would post an irrelevant argument based on only watching bits and pieces or not watching at all before somebody else got around to it.

I actually thought this episode was again really well done. Almost everything about it made perfect sense. I would have liked to see the team moving faster through the town and ferrying stuff to the gate for one thing. They knew that they were under a time limit and should have been moving rapidly from store front to store front and quickly showing anything they found into packs. Instead they were just sort of ambling their way around town. It's possible to be cautious and still move quickly.

My biggest problem however was with the drones. There is no reason for the drones (and mothership) to have high level artificial intelligence. They just need to be simple hunter killers. Yet in this case they were not only able to somehow figure out that Destiny was no longer using gates but that it fueled itself by diving into stars and calculate which stars they needed to travel to in order to intercept it.

But even with those problems I still enjoyed the hell out of the episode.
  5. I have now completely given up with Firefox. I can only load the forums in a reasonable amount of time if I am using Chrome. And once I do get them loaded it takes several attempts to log in. Most attempts just get a page does not exist response. Once logged in though I don't seem to have any further problems other than my posts sometimes take a couple minutes to show up.

    Death penalty

Come on folks this is a superhero game. I choose a different option.

    11. Permadeath and the character disappears from it's slot. Then a month later it shows up in a different slot with a new costume, name, and a partial power set change. Then after a couple months of not performing too well it switches back to it's original name, costume, powers and slot.

    or

11b. Permadeath. But you gain 4 new slots with 4 completely new characters that have the same name as the original character but different powers. Then in a couple months the original character returns and the others vanish.

I am disappointed however that once again it's a filler episode that has only superficial connections to a Darkseid confrontation.

  9. Latest news is that after hearing complaints about some of the cgi in the extended footage Warner Brothers is spending another 9 million to clean things up further. The primary one mentioned is how bad the mask looked.

And incidentally the stored information was a huge volume Durakken. Odds are that they were preserving only data that you would want preserved. All literature, movies, tv shows etc... The reason we are adding so much data yearly is that also includes Rebecca Black and all the other meaningless videos on youtube.

And you are making the assumption that they are using the same system of storing data that we are. 20 years ago data storage was horribly inefficient compared to today. And 20 years from now somebody will probably be laughing about us needing 20 gigabytes to store a low resolution movie (blu ray will be low resolution by then) and also laughing about how we considered 20 gigabytes to be a large amount of information. Their data storage system was compatible with ancient technology and so probably based on it meaning that there was a lot more information per gig than we have.

Well, my post here was originally asking Durraken if he had watched the episode this week but reading the more recent messages I see he hadn't

So I'll comment on something else. It's possible that they didn't see the black hole because Destiny only warns them about something that could be an immediate danger. And they were all so eager to explore the planet they probably didn't bother to extensively scan the system. The bit that annoyed me was something that annoys me in every show I ever see it in but it is a standard trope. Some area has survived for eons (or at least a significant amount of time) and is in pristine condition. Then within hours of the heroes showing up disaster strikes and the whole area will be destroyed in minutes so they have to rush to get out.
  12. To each his own. I don't play defenders simply because I like playing CoH, not whackamole.

But for those who are so opposed to group buffing what do you think about returning to the old form of MMs where each one had to be upgraded individually? After all there is no reason for the group upgrading other than laziness on the part of the MMs. They can selectively upgrade or do it on the fly right?

Or perhaps we should take shift even further into the individual buff territory. Fulcrum RA and AM should be made individually targeted buffs.

Now personally I don't care if they make things easier or harder. I just won't play a defender because like I said, I don't like playing whackamole. On the other hand I've heard from people who love doing just that.
  13. Wait a minute. For years now 9 out of 10 teams have been completely unable to simul click in Caverns of Transcendence without multiple attempts and often the team will fail just because somebody can't figure it out and keeps wandering around the caverns. And you are surprised that a group full of many more people is proving to be incompetent? For any large team event the devs should have based it on using no more difficult coordination than having one person go to a glowie and click on it, or having a large group simultaneously attack the AV.

It will be more Rikti invasions. Only this time they will be Praetorian Rikti and you will be able to tell because they will be using the old Rikti look. And the ships will drop propaganda bombs that explode with leaflets.
  15. So wait. You all actually want Catwoman to look like Ursa from Superman 2?

I mean I agree it's a very hot look but not really Catwoman IMHO.

    Dr Who 23/04/11

I think River can tell how old the Doctor looks chronologically. So he could regenerate into a 10 year old a few hundred years down the line and he would still look older to her. And when she uttered that line he really was the youngest she had ever seen him.

Also it's been years since I actually bothered to look into time lord lore (not since Baker) but I don't believe the extra regenerations will be a problem. If I am remembering correctly there was a time when Time Lords didn't have a limit to the number of regenerations they could undergo. But a limit was placed on them by the council because of increasing instability as regenerations progressed. The council even offered the Master more regenerations if he would just stop being a bad guy. With no more council and no more time lords there might be no more limit.

And one more possibility. This universe isn't the universe of season 5 and earlier. In The Big Bang first the Doctor recreated the universe and then Amy recreated the doctor. She has also created a few other things thanks to her association with the crack in time. Not knowing that the Doctor had a limited number of regenerations she could have remembered him as limitless.

And yet another possibility. When Rose became Bad Wolf and gained mastery of all of time there is no reason why she couldn't have fixed the Doctors limited regeneration problem.

So what it all comes down to is there are many canon moments to explain just why the number of regenerations isn't set any more.

    Help with CLAWS

/sr is a good combination with claws and was my first 50. However /sr doesn't get strong till later levels so I didn't mention it.

Regen is the weakest secondary because it used to be god mode and when it got nerfed it got over nerfed. There was a point where every new issue would have a new regen nerf.

Ping may be good but that doesn't mean it's constantly good. That definitely sounds like the lag you see when you have a bad network connection. While in game type /netgraph 1

In the lower right you will see lines. If they are short and green that's a good network connection with good ping times. If you are seeing yellow then you are getting high transfer times for some packets. If you are seeing red then you are seeing packet loss. Type /netgraph 0 to turn it off.

And follow the link Texas posted and post the results of those two programs. Quite honestly saying you have a nice machine with up to date drivers is meaningless and possibly completely wrong. Nice and up to date are quite relative depending on the programs you are trying to run.
  20. SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

It's not a clear image but the guy talking to the doctor (not Fury, the other one) is Loki.

The thing in the box is a Cosmic Cube. It's been the maguffin in several Marvel plots. Basically it's an item which could give the user virtually unlimited power.

In my defense, I don't like DC characters so hardly ever read their books. As far as I know, I've never read a comic with Booster Gold in it.
You need to pick up back issues of Justice League America back when the team was pretty much regarded as a joke. Back then the team was written for humor but man was it well done. Blue and Gold, the team of Beetle and Booster. And Guy Gardner. Now if you don't like your superheroes taken seriously then skip it but otherwise it's great fun.
