Are we reading the same posts?
He does nothing but insult the entire community at every turn, attempting to rub our faces in his personal greatness.
On top of that, he is actually serious about charging other people to pay him in game money for playing. That is one of the most [redacted] things I see people do in this game.
How on earth can one think this guy is nice or likable is beyond me. -
Trying to find a good defensive build for my BR/NRG while maintaining some decent recharge.
Don't really want Hasten.
Pretty much anything else goes.
This gets me 34.4 S/L, 37.9 E/N and 41 Ranged with 66.3 recharge.
I realize I can add a Ragnorok someplace as well.
Thoughts?

You are the (redacted) that had the unmitigated arrogance and gall to tell me that I and others like me that are satisfied with fun games and nice aesthetics (average damage and nice visuals) that we are ruining the entire game industry.
I have seen few posters over the years here with more rudeness, hyperbole, arrogance and martyrdom than you have. You have no room to even begin to throw that stones at others. -
Quote:You are taking this far too seriously IMO.... Except it is. Do you think that aesthetics haven't been an issue? Do you have any idea how unsustainable the gaming market is? It must be nice. Regardless, that isn't the prime topic here, I suppose.
Your last statement is a bit of a lie, because we've seen what Closed Beta Testing has done to fix the performance of underperforming sets. We've also seen what happens when a set ISN'T properly tested by the player base (Dual Pistols iirc was a case of this?)
The Open Beta VIP Testing has been abused to be nothing but a sight-seeing, data-diving aesthetics trash-fest. It's OVERWHELMED by people wanting to SEE the shiny, and not make sure it's doing as well as it SHOULD be. That is the issue.
Superficiality is winning, and it should be tied. Go look at the Beast Mastery thread. The Staff Fighting thread.
Beast Mastery had ZERO posts about it's damage, until I stepped in. It had some survivability concerns (because of NInjas being what they are), but nobody cared about it's garbage damage performance.
Staff Fighting is FORTY PAGES of complaining about the sound effects and the weapon models. MAYBE a couple of posts about the performance. MAYBE.
This is ludicrous. This is not testing. This is just "SPOILERS YAY!"
Good luck. -
Quote:And still you not are reading, or at least comprehending, what I am posting.Test both the aesthetics AND the performance. YOU are why compromises are made. Why should I care about aesthetics if you won't care about performance? Care for both and stop making a fake choice.
Compromises are made by the developers to promote what they want the game to be and I am happy with the game.
I am not advocating fashion taking over for form. I am saying that fashion is more important for the theme of this game, IF a choice has to be made, where compromises are chosen to be made.
You seem to be under the mistaken impression that this is somehow ruining the entire gaming industry.
There is nothing wrong with making all sets perform competitively to one one another, nothing at all.
Let me put it to you another way.
The developers cannot make everyone happy. They make the most they can happy, to the best of their ability, with an eye toward profit. If you cannot live with that, it's your problem. -
Quote:I almost spewed my coffee...It's a shame you can't accept both matter equally. I can only hope this problematic mindset is eliminated one day. Superficiality is far too dominate in the gaming market these days. And part of the reason why the gaming market is also in such shambles.
Enjoy your pointless destruction of that economy.
Hyperbole much?
You are taking love of the way this game looks and the fun it brings to destroying the entire gaming market? And that multi-billion dollar, highly profitable market is in a shambles?
This game is for FUN. Not for proving one can out-smart the developers by finding the most mathematically perfect combo and leveraging it, even if one might define that as fun.
Nowhere, in any post I have made, did I advocate a balance should not be sought for aesthetics and performance. However, given a choice, I find aesthetics to be more important for THIS game than top tier mathematical performance. This game is about comic books.
If you want talk about performance, then we can go over to forums for the new FPS that just came out Thursday, which I have been playing on and off for 13 years in various incarnations.
IMO, Reppu, you take all of this far too seriously and extrapolate conclusions that are way off base. This game is a casual MMO based on comics targeted mainly at people who want a break from games that require a 'hardcore' gaming outlook. -
Quote:I am not supporting anything other than fun.Neither one should take priority over the other. Kindly stop supporting this. I'm well aware it's 'your money', but you're part of the problem, and so is everyone else who shares this mentality. I was right on the 'money' (or the lack that I paid for it) on Beast Mastery being bought out for it's aesthetics, and then the unhappiness about it's performance becoming a quick issue.
That was due to people like you being 'satisfied with aesthetics, performance is secondary'. Enough is enough.
It's fun to run around and kill pixels in CoH.
As long as the set plays well enough to do that, then there is not a problem. Just because a set does not perform in the top tiers does not mean there is anything wrong.
The forums, as always, screw these supposed performance issues drastically.
Players like me play for relaxation and fun. As long as the performance is not so off kilter that one cannot make any headway at all (even a man-build or a non-pet MM can do that) a set is preforming well enough, even if that means some players won't like it.
No different than the TW you like to promote as being 'the best'. It sucks. Completely sucks as far as I am concerned. It's no fun to play at all, to me.
Aesthetics in this game will ALWAYS be more important to me and a number of players.
Do I value performance? Yes. There are baselines that even I want to achieve because I want to be a Hero not a Sidekick (at least most of the time I have a character named 'Trusty Sidekick').
But FUN is the biggest thing for me and aesthetics, ie. variety, adds to that far more than being able to kill pixels in the most mathematically efficient matter.
So no, I won't shut up any more than you will. -
I am just happy I am not hung up on having the best possible mathematical killing beast so as to not be able to make interesting, fun characters.
And I know that I am not alone.
Staff looks and feels fun. The game IMO is about relaxing and having fun, not playing the most-est, best-est killing machine.
I am well aware that playing the best machine is, in fact, what some find fun. Then find it and play it, please don't complain that every new set is not it.

Quote:Proof or Paranoia?What I am objecting to:
- The program as it does run outside of the launcher.
- That my ISP does monitor P2P traffic (and actually throttles it).
- That I get billed for overages beyond my Internet service plan.
- That some manager at NCsoft will likely impose this garbage on me, despite the fact that I'm already a paying customer.
Wanna take bets now? -
Quote:Now you are just making up strawmen.Would you think it would be fun if there was a 20 hour no xp window on your character on a day you wanted to level him?
No one here is under any obligation to try and explain the reasoning of the developers to you.
Additionally, there has been significant discussion on this topic if you do a little board searching. Even in this thread you have been told why it is the way it is - to put a limit on alignment merits.
You simply think your opinion trumps the developers. You are wrong. -
Quote:So?Don't post in the suggestion forum then buddy. After all , if you have a problem you can design your own game. If you make a single....a single complaint after you posted this to me then you have proven to be a hypocrite.
It's your indignant, arrogant and frankly immature attitude that got the response from me.
What on earth does my being a hypocrite (which all humans are) have to do with anything?
You act like your logic is somehow above a group of people that manage to keep a financially stable game running. If you think that highly of your logic, then go prove them to be inferior.
While your post contained a suggestion, you ranted like a petulant child. -
Quote:There is nothing to be fixed, it is WAI.Having a 20 hour cool down period when players are enjoing the game and relaxing in the moment is poor design and folly. It should be fixed accordingly please.
Just because you disagree with the logic of the design, does not mean it does not exist.
Go out and design your own game if you think your logic is that much better. -

Wow.
Some people really love to bring in nerd rage and drama over the weirdest things.
Love the SSAs, please keep them coming Paragon, with and without spoilers as you see fit to tell the stories you want to tell.
As far as I am concerned, haters are gonna hate, and ragers are gonna rage; ignore 'em, they are not worth the time. -
Quote:Might I ask, where those companies writing software to count money? Were they focused on keeping people alive, perhaps?I personally know of several actual, tangible examples from at least two companies,
right off the top of my head, where quality was very much in the forefront of procedure,
review, and in some cases, enforcement.
I'm pretty certain I'm not the only programmer in the entire world that has ever
had that experience.
As I mentioned previously, there MUST be a rigorous commitment to such software as a base requirement or it won't work.
That same commitment is completely different from creating entertainment.
The goals, at a fundamental level, are different.
The flaws you see as a programmer are generally not even noticed by the average player. My friends that play, non programmers, never even noticed the map bug until hours of play had passed. They could not care less.
Another analogy, for example, from my personal experience. I was the lighting designer and electrician for a theater company. To this day, I cannot watch a live performance without critiquing the lighting infrastructure. My wife never even notices where the lights are and just enjoys the show. -
As a professional in the software development of financial software myself, I can see where the OP is coming from, but there is more to it than code. I happen work in a building that also has a big-name game making company in it. I get to talk to both kinds of developers and to the people that run the companies.
First, the financial code we create is FAR more 'focused', making it far easier to debug and maintain, IMO. The fact that many of the same technologies used in highly mission critical software, like programming languages and databases, are used to create CoH as well, does not mean they are used in the same way. In fact, many of the underlying technologies were developed to create financial software and have been shoe-horned into creating games. Often, just as it does with financial software, the bugs lie not in the code written by the product developer, but somewhere in the underlying technology.
Second, and more importantly, highly mission critical code has an enormous amount of money and resources thrown into the QA phases as compared to games, where the development resources are placed elsewhere, like art and storytelling, etc. The amount of money spent on QA in the highly critical software, IME, often outweighs by far the amount spent on the actual development.
Games are art, where highly critical software is engineering.
There are two completely different mindsets at work between the two types of software, regardless of the fact they happen to use the same tools, like a welder that builds cars vs one that builds replicas of Transformers.
I am NOT saying this game developers should not unit test like everyone else. I am not saying that QA should not be done. But QA is not where the game industry spends the majority of it's money. The margins they have are small enough as it is, games would not get made if held to the same standards as the PCI complaint software of the modern financial world, or they would cost a whole lot more.
Comparing game code development to highly critical code development is not a reasonable comparison, for a number of reasons; to entertain is art, to track how much money I have in the bank is something else entirely.
IMO, it's like telling an artist his work has to be held to the same scrutiny as a bridge builder. -
Quote:There was a time when I might have agreed with you, but that time has passed.Agree with everything except the part in bold. I agree they are being a jerk but I don't think its a good idea to be anything other than polite and I certainly don't think you have a right to be rude.
Blimey, that sounded just like my mom
I think everyone has every right to be rude if they so choose.
I also think that anyone that does not like said behavior has every right to react as they see fit.
For instance, freedom of speech, if you have it, does not mean "Freedom from being offended" or "Freedom from hearing rude comments".
While I applaud your sticking to your morals, I must also stick to mine.
Sometimes rude must be fought with rude. Or Arthur. You can fight anything with Arthur. -
Quote:I do have the right to one-star anyone that excludes players for such stupid reasons and I have the right to let everyone I can know how much of a jerk said person is.People can chose to play or not play with anyone for whatever reason they like. You have no more right to tell people how to form their teams than they have to tell you how to play your character.
I have every right to promote Trials and Groups that are open to anyone the game rules will allow to join and to pour derision upon anyone that won't.
So, to the OP, make a note of the recruiter, and ostracize them.
Or, in the words of my Hero, Mal, "If someone tries to kill you, you try and kill 'em right back." -
Quote:I do not disagree. I run an IT shop. Our customer portal would take a back seat to any other system being in need. IMO, it's not worth the effort to allocate much in the way of resources to these boards.ICUs generally have a different service level requirement than public forums, but I will say as an IT professional whose judgment on this matter is something people listen to, in my opinion we have a professional responsibility to deliver the same quality, service, and effort whether we're supporting an ICU or a public forum. Anyone who thinks differently shouldn't support either.
People have to balance resources all the time, and in my professional opinion when faced with the decision to allocate resources to the proper operation of one of my games, or allocate those resources to doing a dev push on another game's forums, that's an easy decision. The game shards come first, period.
However, by the same token anyone who thinks they could tell me for a year that they couldn't fix my boards and still be employed, well that's highly unlikely.
What I am fed up with is the level of vitriol and arrogance by a number of posters. I should probably just un-bookmark theses forums and walk away, but I like keeping up with the news that does get posted.
I do not view these boards as being important. IMO, they are little more than a place Paragon can make certain members of the playerbase feel special, for very little investment. -
-
Quote:Hyperbole much?C'mon guys. It's not like the forums are part the public face you show to people here.
And they've only been COMPLETELY borked for a month. Nobody'll notice.
And hey, who cares that you've blown off what? THREE announced maintenance windows now?
The situation has passed ludicrous, come all the way around, kicked ludicrous in the nuts and is coming up on lapping it again.
Either fix it or put up an official "We don't give a ****" announcement.
It's an online forum for a game, not a service that takes care of an ICU or something.
The unmitigated arrogance of many of the forum regulars on these boards is what needs 'maintenance' IMO. -
Quote:I don't understand martyrs and tin-foil-hat-wearing-truth-twisters.I have never understood the kind of mentality that is ok with being stepped on, and will do anything they can in order to deceive themselves into thinking it isn't happening.
Does that make us even? -
The only thing I am expecting, as is already in evidence, is a lot of raging gamers complaining.
Frankly, it sickens more by the day to call myself a gamer in light of the bile that is spewed on these and other gamer forums.
So, I guess I am expecting to continue to enjoy playing the game and being happy that it continues to grow and change, unlike many gamers that seem to enjoy hating the people who create the fun pastimes they profess to hate. -
Quote:Any of them that have it. It nerfs fun.Which powersets rely on knockback so much that changing it to knockdown would qualify as a "massive nerf?"
KB is, without a doubt, the most fun mechanic in the game for myself, the people I play with the most, as well as many other players.
Only here on the forums have I ever even seen KB hate.
Not everyone wants to pile each and every group into a tight little bundle for maximum efficiency. While some consider that to be fun, others consider bouncing bad guys of of buildings to be very fun and very comic book.
Paragon, please do not ruin KB because a vocal minority of players (forum posters) dislike it.
I hold hope that this is a bug, possibly one to eventually give optional KB, but IMO more likely due to this new PhyX engine changing something. -
"The game has radically changed in the last 12 months."
How, exactly?
I don't see any radical changes. Everything I could do 12 months ago I can do now.
