  1. First of all.....
in the past 5 years I have not bothered to use the forums for voicing my opinion(s) all that much.....
    but....
I tend to read them all the time because of the invaluable info contained.
This forum and community is the BEST bar none online.

Paragon Studios' development team approached the game's community with respect, loyalty, and a passion I have NOT seen online yet online.

Saying that I understand the "whys" NCSoft did what they did.
(being from the far east they have NO inkling on how and WHY the west has a love for comics, super-heroes, the lore behind it all, etc)
They think that the west ONLY has interest(s) in "fantasy" MMOs and want to make WoW clones and milk it for all that's worth.

They think that the west is an "ignorant" culture.
    Period.

My sincere hope is that this news today does NOT discourage any and all of the player base about the possibility(s) of City of Heroes continuing on.
Common sense tells everyone that NCSoft will not have anything to do with it.
But in this modern world of "buy-outs", "down-sizing", "umbrella organizations", etc......
HOPEFULLY CoX will be taken into the future BY SOMEONE IN THE WEST WHO UNDERSTANDS THE LOVE FOR THIS GAME

In MY opinion THAT is the MAIN reasoning for signing a petition that I did on day one.
To show ANOTHER company (established or new) that THIS GAME....
    this community......
this ESCAPE WE CALL CITY OF HEROES is worthwhile, viable....
and CAN MAKE THEM MONEY if organized correctly.

With re-organization of servers, devs, and ACTUAL advertising????
This would STOMP on DCUO, Chumpions Online.....
and give WoW a serious run for it's money over a period of time.

I pray for this each and every day

me personally I think Trapdoor is a pretty tuff cookie.
    But the funny thing is this for me;

    My tankers (1: Fire/Fire/Pyre, 2: WP/Mace/Body Mastery, 3: WP/Super Strength/Body Mastery)
all had "some" trouble with him.
Beating on the clones when they came up and just trying to outlast him with the DPS and not being able to knock into the lava.

    My "weak" toons; or atleast the ones I rarely ever solo'd with in the past 4 years;
(1: Earth/Emp/Stone Mastery Troller, 2: Ninjas/Storms/Electrical Mastery Mastermind, 3: Empathy/Dark Blasts/Dark Mastery Defender) ALL had no problems with Trapdoor to my surprise.

    I have yet to try with my 1: Katana/Dark Armor/Body Mastery Scrapper, 2: Fire/Fire/Pyre Blaster, 3: Nrg/Nrg Blaster, or my 4: Elec/Elec/Mu Brute
I am trying to conjure up some strategy for them, LOL

Seems like the only "constant" I noticed was this:
If you can HOLD Trapdoor..... you will have an ez time with him LOL

Last night I found a few moments to take Trapdoor on with that Fire/Fire/Pyre Blaster of mine and I made it a tussle....
but my squishy blaster ended up showing his glass chin once again and got sent to the hospital twice
Like John Travolta playing Nicholas Cage in the movie Faceoff stated...
I need "... fresh tactics!" LOL

    I uh... wrong server bud.

I play on all servers actually.
Infinity and Freedom are filled with my 50s now since we had the free server transfers for toons a while back.
    So....
    ergo....
    not the "wrong" server
    They are ALL "right" LOL
  5. Hmmmmm....
where to begin? Where to begin?
    Let's see.
    I am 40.
    Male.
Father of an awesome 18 year old son and an awesome 19 year old daughter.
I help manage a Choice Hotel in the Huntsville, Alabama area (hold the southern redneck jokes please.... my wife and I invented most of them when we moved here from "up north" 4 years ago) LOL
I used to own a pizzeria "up north" many years ago for a long time.
We are "carpet-bagging yankees and proud of it!
    So....
CoH, pizza, and family mean the most to me!
Oh.... and if I forget to mention our 6 housecats I may get clawed to death next I get home.
(Meaning I actually get to play CoH AT WORK SOMETIMES! Woot!)

    http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/...p?id=929108868

I even placed a folder of pics from the game I think on my above Facebook page link!

    Weapon Auras

I would love to have electricity cracklin JUST from my War Mace (ala Thor)
I already use the body Electricity aura but JUST on the hammer would be cool.
Plus on a Katana Scrapper I have I got the Vanguard Katana Sword that glows and it just might be the coolest weapon I have ever used on the game because it LOOKS similar to a Lightsaber (shhhhh)
I just wish we could change the hilt color on it
  7. Damn.... that is what I was afraid of
  8. This is killing me about my lev 50 Elec/Elec/Mu Brute.
    I have done the Mender Ramiel Incarnate Introduction arc on almost all my 50s by now except he tells my Brute the following;
" Settle anything that you need to finish and then speak with me, Patrick of Magellen." (My Brute's name)
Odd thing is..... he doesn't have any "open missions" and under the "active contacts" he has only 3 of them that hasn't even been started.
(Crimson, Admissions Officer Lenk, and Unai Kemen)
Since he is a Brute at one time obviously he was a Villian but is a Hero now and when he was a Villian I made sure to finish arcs with him.
Any ideas come to mind? I do NOT want to go back to being a villian for this..... sigh

  11. Interesting thread
I just wanted to mention that I have been on for 4 years now and 99% of the playing time I did until a few months back were on Infinity
Overall I believe it is an EXCELLENT server.....
for the most part in recent months I started leveling a new batch of Magellens on Freedom
just because a LOT of close, personal friends I made on the game started to slowly un-subscribe or go months in between playing on the server.
Plus I had all my charachter slots filled with 50s on Infinity anyways
Ergo I decided to go the heaviest populated server and make a fresh start.
Plus it helps since in real life I work a LOT more than I used to and the extra peeps on at all hours on Freedom make teaming easier on average.
But for the most part I have always enjoyed my times on Infinity.
If I had to compare (from my own personal experiences) both servers' reputations are well earned (both good and bad)
On average I found more of a "mature" base of players on Infinity.
On average I have found more of an "immature" base on Freedom.
But I take the good with the bad.
There is quality on both servers.... and quality peeps and players
  12. I am at work right now and this thread caught my eye.
I like badges, but never let them take over what I intend to do each time I log on.
With that being said I have one toon that I actually DO "try" to get as many badges as I can possibly get with (in reason) and I might try this with that toon.
As I have seen replied before......
it looks like applause is in order for a solid effort on a tricky/sticky topic in the game

I think it's a rather vocal minority myself. I don't really see as how I will be changing any of the ENHANCEMENTS in my build, just respec'ing, where necessary, to include a few additional powers I couldn't fit into the build before.
Actually I am approaching it similarly also.
Basically going to just add certain powers to see if they are worthwhile on certain toons with the inherent stamina.
The only one that comes to mind off the top of my head (since I am at work right now) is that I have an old lev 50 Super Strength/Willpower Tank....
that for some reason I never grabbed "Handclap" because of running out of power choices if memory serves.
So I know I will nab it just to see how it plays with a newer build and stuff.
I know I have other toons that I will re-do a lot more because of the inherent stamina. The ones that come to mind easily are the ones that have anything to do with Dark Armor, LOL

$5 million is far from chicken feed, anyway. The fact that NCSoft's other properties dwarf that number is a good thing for CoH, unless of course those gross revenue numbers hide truly immense offsetting costs.

    Which seems doubtful.

Seems CoH is holding its own in the recession. Always good to hear.

The difference between a Fully-Setted toon and one stocked simply with all Common IOs can be seen and felt beyond the mere fact of "To Hit" or "Damage" bonuses being capped.

The Fully Setted toon will have a wide array of Recharge bonuses, Regen, Defense, Resistance, Accuracy, Mez Resist, Knockback Resist -- the list goes on and on -- not to mention the secondary attributes given to powers that normally don't have them -- like Knockdowns, Holds, extra Damage of different types and more. The add-up to all of this means your toon will fight harder without running out of END, give out more damage-per-second and be able to take more damage.

So before going down the Frankenslotting Route on all your powers (Frankenslotting being, in my opinion, only useful on certain powers, such as Health, where you would Frankenslot one Numina +Rec/+Regen, one Miracle +Rec, and one Regen Tissue +Reg, etc), be sure to consider your other options.

After all, prices in the post-merge market have plummeted, and so you could employ your 400 million to good effect.

However -- and I cannot stress this strongly enough -- you can very easily make mistakes. Many respecs later you may realize you wasted a lot of INF.

How to avoid this? Use an offline character and enhancement build planner, such as MIDS. Used properly and with a lot of careful thought and tweaking, you can make sure you get the most bonuses across all your sets before actually buying a single one -- not to mention make sure that your build's powers are taken in the order best suited to being Exemplared down for various Task Forces and Flashbacks, so that you'll still have everything you need at Level 15, 20 or 30.

You can download MIDS for free at: http://www.cohplanner.com/

With all that being said, you may also want to wait until the next Issue is released before diving in and making all your purchases, as in it, Fitness becomes an inherent power. But by all means, experiment with MIDS for now. It's a great resource in helping you to understand Sets and Set Bonuses.

Last but not least, remember that you don't get bonuses for IO's of any type that are of a Level that is higher than your Exemplared level. So, if you're in a Level 40 Zone or on a Task Force, Trial, Flashback, etc., all of your Level 50 IOs will not be giving you any Enhancement or Set Bonuses (Purple/Unique Sets are an exception to this, and they will still give their Set Bonuses).

This is why it is often better to get lower level IOs than 50 -- the difference in enhancement bonus of a Level 40 IO vs a Level 50 IO is not that great, and the Level 40 IO will keep on working in a wider range of scenarios.

    -- Vivian
    Good stuff
The next tweaks and changes I make with it will be after the Inherent Stamina hits the fan for comparison's sake

A damn good accountant can easily be as evil as a damn good lawyer
That being said I overal trust the ownership/devs with the stats that are generally released for the game
It always kills me when I read posts from time to time on other threads from fanboys and such with NO actual business background talking about "real life business" LOL

    Dunno actually.
I just know that it always seems like numbers on some stat sheets can be seen moving from a mile away like a game of Three Card Monty
  22. Intriguing

I used to own a big, nice restaurant and numbers CAN be "moved around" to prove anything and everything
That being said from my gut feeling AND from player-base data and info gathering I think it is overall pretty sound.
Re-investing, payroll(s), design, equipment upkeep/purchases, advertising (which is a JOKE) and such will make the pie cut up into a LOT of slices.
But then again..... quite natural for a company/product of this size.

I have never questioned ownership/upper-management etc about the CoX franchise in any form when it comes to finances.....
but I have ALWAYS wished there would be MORE "advertising" and such.

Don't get me wrong... word of mouth is the BEST "long-term" form of it.
But in this technological age that we live in.... I would love to see something worked out where some more "conventional" forms were given their due.

TV and Magazines come to mind..... but that is just a pipe-dream LOL
Believe me.... I get SICK of seeing WoW or other games' tv commercials when I know that CoX is soooOoooOooOoo much better on many levels.

    Oh well

Sorry to get on that "rant"
  23. One of my favorite aspects of this game is the Lore of it all.
I feel I need to brush up drastically (damn workload of mine each week) LOL
  24. I have a 50 Ninjas/Storms MM and a 23 Robots/Forcefields MM and I have to admit..... the ninjas gave me a LOT less headaches than the Robots do in the early 20s

For some reason the robots seem to dang squishy....
    but I dunno.
Perhaps I just need to reslot them.
I haven't played that toon in a month or so.
I need to take a closer look

Also, I kinda doubt the guy is a new player. A registry date of 2007 doesn't say "new player" to me. I was under the assumption that the OP at least has a working knowledge of how to go about acquiring things in this game. For a casual player right now, Hero merits are probably the most efficient way of getting the high dollar items. Use merits for the more expensive items, and you can buy the cheaper stuff with the 400 mil you have stashed.

I look at a stated budget as a starting point. It is highly unlikely that anyone is going to say "Well, I have 400 million here, I'll just build a character with that and never do anything that earns influence, merits, or recipe drops again." If he continues to play the character, he can work on the stuff he can't afford right now. That's how I IOed out every one of my characters that is, I just played them and gradually put together the build one set at a time.

I'm not trying to be rude in my response, but my post was a lot more realistic than you gave it credit for.
    I understand perfectly.
    It is all cool.

Normally with all my 50s I always get regular lev 50 IOs for ever and all slot openings....
but just never bothered with the time to dabble in the "sets" so to speak.
I just tinkered with this particular toon because it is my oldest favorite Tank on a 2nd build for comparison's sake to see if I like it better or not.
So far with what I have put in that build I like (love) certain aspects of the build and the each bonus involved and there are a few things that I prefer with my original build.

I would did more with sets in the past except I have had a few periods where I work a gazillion hours a week and I have had a few periods where my work-load was a lot less
