  1. I think the only time I ever died on my Empath was when I'd sacrifice myself with Absorb Pain in order to save the Tank at the last second (and the rest of the team by default)

Though I generally only target through a tank or scrapper on him. To avoid the aggro.

My Blasters on the other hand...

I was actually shocked at how easy I'd survive on support toons. Controllers and Defenders mainly. For some reason, I never seem to generate enough aggro on myself to worry about. On the rare occasions I did I'd just run past the tank and let his aura take the mob from me.

The others are right though. Allowing support toons to target themselves would make Defenders the most overpowered toons ever.
  2. What you want is:

Fire/Ice Blaster - Best of both worlds. Wonderful damage from range, with lots of AOE power. /Ice gives you plenty of tools to keep them away from you. Shiver makes boss fights silly and Ice Patch is a keep away from me power.
Fire/Ice is the only Blaster I don't actually Blap with, thanks to the utility of the secondary.

Energy/Energy - Once you learn to use KB as a mitigation tool this combo really shines. I can juggle most any opponent, minus AV's and GM's so that they never have a chance to attack. Ragdoll makes it even more useful (Yes I played before ragdoll...) Now, /Energy is the king of Melee thanks to Bonesmasher and Total Focus but you don't have to use them all that much, just as a get outta my face tool when needed. Using Power Boost and Boost Range would make this a wonderful combo for ranged.

Archery/Mental Manipulation is a nice combo for ranged play as well. With numerous cones and AoE's to throw around, not to mention the mini-nuke rain of arrows!

A warning though: If all you've played are melee and support toons, Blasters will take some patience.
Unlike the defense heavy classes, Blasters excel in using tactics and observation to know when and where/how to best use your powers. You have to think on your feet constantly (Which is why I can't really stand Melee, never in any real danger, just click click click bore fest but that's another rant.)
Blasters require tactics, postitioning on the battlefield, using LoS etc. You'll be faceplanting quite a bit while you get the playstyle down. Once you get in the groove though....
You may never be able to stand playing anything else ;p

And yet, having these raids as end-game doesn't seem to hamper or infringe on leveling alts and doing regular content (do they?).

So why get your panties in a twist? If you don't like raids, then don't do raids. Do regular missions, tips, mayhem/safeguards, TF/SF. This is the same BS people whined about when Going Rogue first game out, that they didn't get their end-game stuff and reprimanded the devs for leaving them out. Now we get it and still we whine? Vicious cycle much?
Except there is a big difference here. The easy solution if you don't like Raids is to not do them (as I choose not to) That's no biggie....
    Except.

For the 1st time in this game, something optional is not actually optional.
That is, not if you want to participate in anything coming in the future.

It's fine and dandy to say, just play the regular content but that doesn't address the real issue.

We've been playing this game for going on 7 years. Numerous storylines have been introduced and eventually will get fleshed out. But if you don't jump on the Incarnate bandwagon...

"Oh you know The Coming Storm we've been teasing you with for years? Yeah, the thing you've been looking forward to all this time? Well, you didn't wanna raid last year so you can't see any of it..."

That's the problem. We either have to deal with it and grind our faces off for the shinies so we can join in on the fun next year or just decide that because we don't like the Raid mentality/Hassle we can't enjoy the content we've been eagerly awaiting.

I made my choice. I don't like Raids so I'm having a blast rolling new alts. It does bother me that I'm now growing ever farther behind and by making this choice now, I'm by default, preventing myself from enjoying the future content. But that's my choice.

Just don't think that because the regular content hasn't changed, we should stop complaining and 'get over it' because that's not looking at the full picture.
  4. This thread goes to 11!!

    I'd also like to add;

    Meet the Feebles
    Adventures in Babysitting
    Cloverfield
Godzilla (I actually like the Matthew Broderick one...)
Superman 3 (if only for Richard)
    Summer School
    Bikini Carwash Company

(While some wouldn't consider it a 'bad' movie, being a man my age with no kids, I'd have to call this a guilty pleasure...)
Over the Hedge! I love it and Ben Folds in Tha Man!
  5. I've enjoyed copy pasting the City of Farms thread. I'm pretty sure the google translator got confused, unless the poster just really is talking about jellyfish and tofu in the same sentence...
  6. Just wait til we get to the Omega slot...

The 1337 separate versions of 'currency' we currently have is enough of a deterrant for me. I can't even imagine what it'll look like once all the slots are out, each with corresponding salvage and merits...

    Help with CLAWS

I'll second the notion to grind out 6 more levels for Integration. One of the best powers in the game!
Truthfully, I never noticed a need for status protection before level 18-22.
Not sure what your fighting that's giving you trouble, maybe Vahz?

Regen, is a mixed bag. When your on top of your game theres nothing like it. Regen can pull off some amazing comebacks. But if your attention is off, or your tired... You'll be kissing carpet like Blasters.

That said; I personally found Claws/Regen to be rather... weak feeling.
I don't judge a combo before level 22 and SO's. But when my Claws/Regen started feeling weaker after SO's for some reason, I just shelved him and moved on. Perhaps it's just perception, having played Dark Melee and Broadsword I'm just used to more upfront damage. Claws just feels weak to me. I was tempted to roll a new one up when I bought the Animal Pack, until I realized you still couldn't have 'natural' claws.

For synergy with Claws on a scrapper I'd look at either WP or SR.
  8. Encino Man...

Theres one I hadn't thought about in literal years! Me and a bud used to run around Jr. High spouting lines from that movie like it was the coolest thing ever.

    "No wheezing the juice!"

I had no idea they renamed it California Man overseas.
  9. I included the Short Circuits and Bill and Ted movies because I've been told by others that they are teh suck.

Personally I never saw them as being 'bad' per se. But when trying to get the newer generation into them, I always end up hearing how boring and lousy they are.
  10. Can't help you with the auto run bind, as I never even thought about binding it for flyposes.

What I do is create a Macro called fly and set it with the 2 or 3 poses I want for that toon. Then I just click it to 'assume the position' while I'm flying.

Once I realized I could bind fly to the side button on my mouse I was able to free up that powertray spot and now my Macro always goes there.

(as an aside; I love being able to click the back button on my mouse to use respites!! Such a time/life saver.)
  11. Energon;

You do know the words lose their impact when you over use them right? Being upset is understandable. Throwing curse words inbetween every other word just makes your position look so weak it has to be supported with 'strong' language.

Don't fall into that trap. You have a legitimate concern so try to communicate that concern in a proffessional manner.
  12. The term healer is a touchy subject for a few players because it's such a limiting term. In other games you have the holy trinity of Tank, DPS, Healing. Not so in this one.

Calling yourself a 'Healer' is fine in my book. Just don't limit yourself to the definition. The most fun I've ever had in this game was running 8 man invincible teams through level 1-32 on my Empath. Trying to keep all 8 standing with heals could get very... engaging at times. I've sacrificied myself a few times by hitting the almost dead tank with Absorb Pain while being pummelled. I knew I'd fall, but if the tank went, the whole team would wipe. At no other time on any other AT have I been as praised as when I'm healing at low levels.

That said. Once I got into the 30's I found myself unwanted by teams. By then most of the Tanks and Scrappers had their own defense and would rarely, if ever, need a heal. Even most squishy toons by then have significant enough resources that the heals will go entire missions without being touched. This is when the RA's and AB really start to shine.
However, you have to remind some folks that Empathy has more to offer than just heals.

This is why the term 'Healer' stirs up emotions these days. It'd be like an Energy Blaster advertising himself as a Knockbacker. It's a small part of what you can offer.
  13. Sky High - I'm still hoping for a sequel...

    The Postman

    Meteor Man

    Short Circuit 1 and 2

Bill and Ted 1 and 2

    Bugsy Malone

    The 10th Kingdom

    Gremlins 2

    Zapped!

Revenge of the nerds - all of them... yes even Nerds in love.
  14. Not so much.

Pure Healing at least. Once you get past the mid 20's most AT's have enough power at their disposal that your buffs will end up being far more valueable to a team. Even more so now that Incarnate abilities can give every AT healing ability.

If your looking to be useful as a support toon in the late game, Pick something with a good range of Buffs/Debuffs.

Avoid calling yourself a 'Healer' as that connotation can upset some players 'round here.

A high level Empathy/Elec is very valuable. I'd look at maybe respeccing and seeing what you can do.

    Bang! Pow! Stab!

I'd rather have a mixed martial arts secondary for my Blasters, as a weapon set would cause so much redraw I'd never play it.

    I Demand....

I logged into Nova Praetoria the other night to wait for my friend to log on. I was impressed with the amount of Heroes running around, a good dozen or so. More than I'd seen greyside since GR launched, anyways...

A few of them had the Helper title. I'd personally declined the option on the grounds that I didn't want a bright shiny yellow name. Regardless of that, I was still approached by a 1st time player asking for help. They asked me for help, when my name was normal, and at least 4 other heroes were standing nearby with the Helper tag...

I checked and saw that they indeed had not a single badge, no vet badges, no badges at all... This really was a new player! It was her 2nd hour in game and she couldn't find Praetor Duncan to train to level 2.
Even though we were stanfding 10 feet from her!

This really made me smile. I recall being that new to the game. So I took her under my wing since I was just standing around waiting anyways.
Led her to Duncan. Assisted her with the power choice, explained a bit about enhancements and then led her to the Tailor in Imperial so she could adjust her look.

I've always been a helper. At least for the last 6 years I have been, once I knew enough about the game to offer assistance. Joining PCSAR mainly because I like helping others. I need no neon tag to do so.

That said, I do see your point. I was asked by a 3 month vet how to get the gold name. I explained to them the significance of it and they just chuckled and said they couldn't help anyone but wanted their name to stand out in a crowd...

Aside from that. On the one toon I did choose the helper title on, my PCSAR patroller, I've not once been asked for assistance...
  17. Very cool! Can't wait to see the final piece.
  18. It was short, think maybe an hour. Just working kinks out before the 28th.
You didn't miss much, except a wonderful discussion about Yogurt Tree's and moonbases...

  19. Energy Thrust.
Knockout Blow with a full Fury bar.
    Gale.
Fly - all my toons end up with this it seems.
  20. Well...

My fastest levelling Redside toon to date would have to be my
    Necro/Dark MM.

That said. Just push to level 21 and go train, that should unlock them for you if I remember correctly.

    Kinetic Melee

On a scrapper? I'd go Claws.

From what I've read on here and experienced in-game, KM for Scrappers just feels... off somehow. Stalkers on the other hand >_>

As for synergy. I rolled up a KM/Shield but just couldn't get into the animations. (I'm weird like that, choosing less effective powers, ala fashion over function sometimes)

Ended up rolling a KM/SR to 23 and shelving him as the SO's didn't really give me the boost I'd been expecting. Loved the concept I'd created, just couldn't get into the powerset for some reason.
  22. I honestly didn't even know My Little Ponies still existed...
Thought they went the way of Smurfs and Rainbow Brite and all the other 80's toys we destroyed growing up. (My sister hated me back then)

Here I was thinking a 30 year old man waxing philosophical about Pokemon was skirting the edge of acceptance...

For now though, I'll stick with Avengers and Batman: TBAB for my animated hero fix.

*Okay yes, that 30 year old Pokemon fan is me...
  23. Wonderful! My favorite bit of in-game music is in St. Martial. Don't know the name of the track but it's the song that plays when you near the Giza.

I'd love to hear your version of it though!
  24. I have somewhat of a weird quirk in which I view level 50 as being semi-retirement. That means I have around 12 toons eternally parked in the 45-49 range and only 3 real 50's. Since I have no desire to play without 'earning' something for them and don't care for the Incarnate options, I usually just shelve them and move on to the next project/concept.

However, I recently decided to dust off my old DM/Regen and make the push to 50, as he was the 2nd character I ever made I feel he deserved the honor. What happened in the process was quite shocking for me. I found that I really, really enjoyed playing him at high level. One of the better rounded toons I've made, I found the prospect of having to 'shelve' him in a few levels to be disheartening. So I'd avoid playing him, so he didn't get to 50 and get forgotten about. Which is a viscious cycle but I digress...

A few weeks later I was growing tired of running tips on all my alts. Though I found myself wanting to use Hero merits to buy LOTG and all the other shinies I've never been able to afford. So I decided to turn my DM/Regen into a tip farmer. Nothing fancy, I just log him in every few days and do a tip or 3. Ended up being win/win for me. I get to continue earning A-Merits for the goodies but don't have to waste time on lowbies I could be running arcs on and I also get to continue playing a 50 for the 1st time ever. True the tips get old after a while, but the toon doesn't!

He just mailed a Numina+/+ to one of my lowbie Blasters last night!

Not saying this would work for you, but it's an option.
