While i doubt the devs are going to change true nukes around. It seems doubtful that they are going to make powers like that anymore. Moderate recharge, with less damage for 'nukes' seems to the norm. Same for the armor tier 9s.

Quote:Actually they aren't the same, what you are talking about is long term resource management, most builds in this game AREN'T sustainable endurance wise by themselves while going full out, over the long term. If they were, people wouldn't be building for recovery after getting stamina (lets not get started on the people that have quick recovery that still get stamina). What they are changing is the short term endurance hole people experience from 1-20 due enhancements being crap, and no stamina. Also letting people suffer from 1 - 20 before many builds become workable is not going to help with the new player population. To me, it's no different than ammo management in your typical FPS, or spell/mana points in your typical RPG.
Sure, it's fun unloading rockets into grunts... but you might want to save some for the boss. Oops, you ran out? <Load last save>
IMO, there should be some penalty for going all-out all the time, and there currently isn't.
People need to stop exaggerating and claiming that the devs giving us stamina is going to remove endurance management from the game. Besides on toons that dont have stamina, I doubt many peoples builds are going to gain any endurance recovery, Hell I expect alot of people to gain some consumption due to taking toggles from leadership. -
Quote:That last statement is what i don't get about all of this arguing, we have people saying that the extra powers aren't going to do anything because we don't have slots for them and then we have people saying that those 3 powers without slots are going to completely unbalance the game with more power creep.at the low levels I run at default difficulty not because I want to, but because clearing missions takes too long if I have to hang out puffing and panting between spawns.
with inherent stamina I'll be able to bump up my difficulty much, much sooner than I usually do. So inherent stamina will make my early game more difficult.
At the higher levels replacing a couple of boring prerequisites with other stuff isn't going to appreciably alter game balance given the way any competently built character can steamroll content. -
Quote:^^^ My bane has no problem killing bosses, they basically melt, EBs are pretty easy baring RNG fail that comes with defense. Some combos/ATs are better at soloing AVs then others.Nitpic: They are Epic AT's because of the storyline, not because they are designed to be Uber.
My 1st thought was naturally "Yes" There is nothing better than a well played MM.
Then I saw the reason your asking; He can't solo EB's.
This makes me think it's something wrong with the build. As my experience is EB's are generally a joke.
AV's on the other hand are next to impossible without the right combo.
Hopefully someone will show up soon with more detailed info for you.
That said. Masterminds are sick. Create one, make a goto macro, profit!!!
My Necro/Dark can even take on AV's solo, with the right prep of course.
Edit: IMO Banes are best played offensively mildly, the faster you kill something with your burst damage, the faster they stop shooting at you. Worked well so far for me. -
Quote:Maybe for a veteran that knows exactly what powers what powers to take, what powers to avoid and what mob types to avoid.I don't think that word means what you think it means.
L1-20 are, by far, the shortest in the game.
For a new player? Could easily be a grind. -
That doesn't explain when they gave Dominators the defenders version of Soul Drain for Soul mastery, complete with the 120 second recharge, and then increased it to 240 seconds to match the corruptors version. One of the two versions has to be right and the other wrong. (and one of them has been the way it has been for a very long time)
-
This has nothing to do with the topic on hand, but I just found it amusing that here people are debating how or If the free powers are going to unbalance the game by making players too powerful. While in a bunch of other places. people are asking/demanding the devs give them more slots to slot ouf the new powers. (ranging from 3 slots to 10(really?) slots)
I can see why the devs waited so long to atempt this. -
Quote:Lighting Rod summons a pseudo-pet to do its damage. The pet isnt coded to crit. It doesn't crit. Because it uses a pet, it doesn't take you out of hide.It does for stalkers while hidden. You can crit the whole mob, still be hidden sometimes, and then hit Thunderstrike, crit a bunch more, and then placate and AS a boss or something. Electric on stalkers is awesome.
I'm very impressed with my DPS when spanking my son with the wooden spoon. It also has a +Fear inherent for all attacks.

Too Slow! curse you Leo! :P -
Something like that would be better off in the technical issues forum instead of here. Get the tech gurus to help you out.

Quote:Then what is Rage and Footstomp for SS?I assume 'concentrated strike' is going to get ignored 'cos it's new?
I thought I'd already made it clear that I don't think your opinion in this discussion holds any weight; you think Energy was balanced before the change, which obviously means this change is a flat-out downpowering of something you think was acceptable. I on the other hand, look at the change, played the set after the change, and can both say with confidence in my own experience that the set is still very strong and compares well to other melee sets, and that if it was markedly better, it was probably overpowered, and viewing the development history that the set was downpowered with basically nothing to return for it, indicating that it was too good.
These devs are not functionally retartded. They know how to make changes that are give-and-take, and they didn't make a give-and-take. They just took. Which indicates there had already been too much give.
The 'I don't like it' arguments hold a lot more weight to me than the 'the set was fine, wtf were they doing?' arguments. The former I can see reasons to help, with things like power customization, or maybe even exploring niche ways to improve the feel of Energy - but to act as if the change was unreasonable, and as if Energy Transfer represents the whole set ('fast set' 'theme of self-damage' 'unreliable stuns') strikes me as incorrect on the facts at best. -
Quote:Not to mention that he is still the public face of Cryptic, which as we have all found out long ago, public relations is not something he does well. Someone else should have been speaking in his stead. But that demonstrates his inability to learn from the past, or, the inability to be honest publicly.
He and his whole Cryptic team should have known the cost of development.
First, while CoH was making money for them, he got development money from Microsoft/Marvel for the ill fated Marvel Online. Then he got money from NCSoft for the CoH IP buyout.
Then when the Marvel/M$ deal fell through, he trumpeted how independent Cryptic was going to be: self publishing, self developing, and with a wholly owned IP. It was at that point he and Cryptic should have known whether they could do it or not.
Then came the announcement of using a 3rd party publisher.
Then came the announcement of being bought out by Atari/Infogrames.
Either he lied about the value of independence or he and Cryptic were grossly incompetent regarding the cost of development. Either way... previous lesson not learned.
Over and over again: Previous lesson not learned.
Btw does cryptic have a PR section? If they did, they didnt do their jobs, and if not, they really need one. -
Quote:Besides the fact that it is all still opinion, since none of us know anything more other then the writing in the article. While you may be right, why take away the most positive interpretation? What's the gain?
Sam Kinison used to joke that lies keep a relationship together. I go even further and say it is only deception that allows most of us to live each day without raging despair. Let people believe good things where it can do no harm.
Also the notion that people have never made split decisions in life or death situations as they are happening is abused since we hear stories about that all the time. -

Quote:Besides the fact that you have to respec in the first place in order to get inherent fitness if you already have the pool power version of it. It doesnt come automaticly so if you respec when it comes out, you are saying you want the free 3 powers. So basically........ I'm getting 3 new power for ALL my builds, which is cool, but in essence zero slots to put in them... since i'll still need to slot the inherent fitness line... (which, is normally only a small hand full of slots anyways.)
so all my builds will need massive reworking and prolly reslotting ALL my powers to try and find some slots to make use of some of these new powers i'll have...
It's an OK change I guess. I personally dislike "throw a way" powers, but with no slots to slot into my 3 new powers... 3 powers i might add i'll need to figure out what to take... that matches my concepts... all 40 of them... yeah, this looks more like WORK for *me* then a bonus.
But i am happy for everyone else who really wanted this. -
Quote:If you go for psychic mastery, dont go just for WoC, its very meh by itself. The power is only decent when you slot the purple confuse proc into it to get a decent chance to confuse LTs. It still has a very small radius, the same as other damage auras in defensive sets.Hey All,
So I am trying to decide what APP to pick, and Psychic Mastery seems the most "Controllerish" of the bunch.
Not only do you get a Ranged AoE Sleep, but a PBAoE (just when you need it cause I don't wanna the meele types hitting me) Confuse toggle. Now with my EMP duo I have really unlimited endurance and thats without the Stamina changes so toggles are not an issue but what I was wondering has anyone tried it and does it make a real difference, the AoE Sleep kinda goes against all the AoE goodness my Archers have, but then again a confuse helps alot but only if it will work.
So, can anyone give me a review of this power? Keep in mind I have a Duo so I would have 2 of them going at any given time.
And, if I could ask, what is the most popular or best APP/PPP (since we can do both now) and why?
I usually use it as a set mule, and minor melee minion defense, as they get confused walking into melee range for a short time. -
Quote:And if all else fails, just mail yourself some inf.I sometimes feel amused remembering how I used to run around to make sure I was selling all my enhancement drops at the matching vendors because they sold for more that way. I like the new way better. Working the market, even the low risk stuff that literally cannot lose you money, is a far more efficient method of bankrolling a new character.

Quote:Its fine, he is like Socrates, we just don't understand.Irony is you.
I find it funny that when people have criticisms about your review (it's style, tone, content, etc.), you gripe about how you're misunderstood or misconstrued.
I think the community so far has spoken and gave your review a thumbs down for a variety of reasons. Please continue to launch personal attacks on your critics. All it does is paint a picture of someone who can give but can't take.
There's a positive that can be gained from this. You can actually try to objectively look at the feedback you've been given (which is valuable) and try to improve with this. Or you can sulk and believe your rather unprofessional presentation style will eventually win us over (pro tip: it won't).
Reviewing / writing is a two way street. If you can't stand the heat in the kitchen, get out. -
Quote:Burning Crusade was just Vanilla WoW with more zones and dungeons and 10 more levels!!!So you're saying you would take a review seriously that fails to mention the game's latest content?
Well, apparently you and I approach reviews in very different ways. Because you just have a whole lot of rationales for why you didn't have to mention it and I think not mentioning it is just really poor reviewing.
.
Same for Woltk Vs BC -

Quote:The thing you forget is that most builds that have fitness have it with spending very few slots, most of the time only 2 extra slots for stam, and maybe and extra one for health for the two +recovery procs. So even with 3 new powers, on current builds, most people don't have slots to put into the new powers.I'm starting to think that as well, but only if 2.0 includes some of the things a sequel would accomplish, like revamped zones, more costume nodes to support some of the things you can do in CO and more, removal of rooting, etc. Starting fresh makes some of that easier, but reusing current assets has advantages too.
GR suggests that there may be more viability to CoH 1 than expected.
I also want to propose a question to anybody who thinks inherent stamina is so important. What 3 powers would you take instead (keep in mind you get no extra slots, just powers) that would make you so uber? It's asinine to say that stamina would make the whole game so much easier. If you want to claim it would lead to a drop in challenge, then you have to back that up by demonstrating that most builds would become dramatically stronger with 3 extra powers. Since those who take stamina skip their 3 most skippable powers, any powers they do add instead will likely be situational at most. -
Quote:Funny how you keep saying that, but the fact that some of the fastest TF times are done with fire/rad superteams implies otherwise. I guess they go faster by killing the mobs slower....oh wait.Except for the defense to all positions they're giving each other and the Rad (and I believe his/her imps, but can't recall if it works on pets or not).
The buffs/debuffs given by the rad are extremely important, but controllers have to move VERY far before they start doing the damage a Scrapper does unbuffed. Buffed, as the two Fire/Shields will be, its amazing to watch.
I'm not sure why you all assume I have no experience in these matters. I've played on plenty of buffer overrun teams both as a contributing buffer and as a buffed DPS. Fire/Shield/Fire is not exactly like your common Scrapper. The level of AoE damage is really off the charts. In the configuration I've proposed you would have those two Scrappers two shotting spawns of mobs.
It would be much quicker than a team of all Fire/Rads, and nearly as flashy.
