  2. To the OP, you REALLY need to study copyright and trademark law if you think you can get away with making a trademarked character now. (A healthy dose of reality couldn't hurt either)

To start off with, the game is not totally free. They're not giving everything out and say "go nuts". There's a subscription still in place and microtransactions, so NCSoft and Paragon are still making money off the game. For there to be any defence against a copyright claim the defendant must prove that zero dollars are being made off of it, and that defence is shaky at best.

Next, even if the game WAS totally free, trademark laws require the owner of the trademark pursue legal action against anyone infringing on it, whether or not there's a profit involved. Only parodies are protected and those protections are diminishing at a rapid rate. Seeing as Paragon still holds legal rights to all characters made in the game, they must prove parody in use, which they cannot do as they did not originally create the game character.

So no, they will still generic any trademarked character, in fact it's probably more active with the new free players.

Of course, if it's laid out clearly at the time you buy it, on the page where you pay, that it's spread out over a time period, then that's fair enough. If it DOESN'T, then UK law at least requires that you should receive all you paid for at the time you paid for it.
And I will say again. You didn't buy those points, they were free.

    http://na.cityofheroes.com/en/freedom/about-freedom/
Right there, on that chart, first line below Account Features it says Free Paragon Points. You don't get the option to say "I don't want them" and get a discount. So guess what, that law has no bearing to this situation. There's no mention that guarantees the Free points will be delivered exactly when your billing date rolls around.

Now they're aware of the issue and trying to fix it. Stop trying to claim your entitled to some extra reward because a freebie wasn't delivered exactly when you want it.

Ouch, that had to hurt considering The Cape was running ITrials last night as well.
  5. Let me give you a refresher here. You did not buy those. Your money is for your subscription which grants you VIP level access to the game. Those points and reward tokens are bonuses that are supplied free. To put it bluntly, you are complaining about a freebie!

Now, had you actually bought those points, you'd have a case. As it is, those are free points and tokens, which means you can accept that you will not get them on your own terms or cancel your subscription and not get them at all. Do remember that if Paragon Studio decides to, they can scrub the bonus points and reward tokens from VIP accounts at their own discretion and the most you can do is cancel your subscription.

They have notified you of a delay on the free points. Accept it and move on. There's nothing on the market that's an immediate must have anyway.
  6. (Bear in mind, what I put here is from my own personal experiences)

Not only do I think some heroes rely on them too much, but they rely on them to the point of stupidity. The founding members of the Justice League (Batman excluded for obvious reasons) for example are easy examples of this. A lot of times when the hero finds him or herself in a situation without access to their powers they just sit there not knowing what to do and someone else either has to give them a proverbial kick in the *** or getting their powers back for them. DC does love to play up the "with a few exceptions, unless you have powers, you can't be a superhero."

I haven't seen marvel do it to that extent though. All their heroes have a very real weakness to offset their powers and the heroes are heroes because they want to, not because they can. The powers add flair and depth to the hero, but aren't the defining aspect of the character itself.

You could always make a dummy character to serve as a place holder.
  8. The proper basis for that requires that the first and last letter in any word (or sylable for more complex words) remains constant. So while the original phrase can be deciphered easily enough because it follows that rule, most intentional "leet speak" does not follow that rule because it wasn't meant to be easily deciphered by the average person. Because of that, the argument that because you can interpret the example phrase you can interpret "leet speak" is NOt valid.

  10. Basically, we could tell you, but it would be a pretty poor explination when it is so much easier for everyone if you just experience it yourself. It doesn't take long and really should be run at least once.
  11. Woah there before the pitchforks and torches come out! Admittadely, What I put down was not complete, neither was it outright wrong. What I put down is accurate for people just starting or just returning, which is for who I directed it towards. That way they don't get the idea that everything is open to them from the start when it really isn't.
  12. And holy cow was it poorly written. So much so that I had to go in and clarify the stuff that the writer got just outright wrong. Here's the article:

    http://www.gamesradar.com/city-heroe...free-and-live/
  13. My only real though I have on it is it's interesting. I can't say I loved it or that I hated it, but it intrigued me. There is one nitpick that I feel needs to be addressed though:

    Ambushes.

Now I'm not an overly big fan of them in the first place, but about 2/3rds in the storyline there, the amount of ambushes is catapulted into the extreme. In every mission in that point of time I enter a mission and suddenly I'm set upon by hordes of enemies. One mission I was ambushed by no less than 10 groups before even completing a single objective. It's too much and does need to be to toned down. (and yes, after the third mission loaded with ambushes I was wondering who thought it would be a good idea to have so many and introduce them to a clue by four.)
  14. VEATs start with their traditional arc about getting on the Destined one's list, but after that they get sent to the other Villain Arcs. You just need to finish the VEAT exclusive mission first.
  15. Yeah, same issue, same solution. Came across another one though. For some odd reason, my copy of Firefox for some odd reason will not allow the login so register at all.
  16. There's only one area that is not balanced around strict conventional Enhancements and that's the new Incarnate Trials which require an Incarnate ability slotted to avoid a penalty. Everything else in the game can be handled by conventional enhancements.

So unless you're going for that content (which is blocked to any non-VIP accounts IIRC) then it's a moot point.

It's along the same reasoning as "why bother having costume pieces if they don't do anything?"

It's largely a cosmetic choice for fleshing out a history of your character.

  21. I actually like the Avengers: EMH version of Hulk more than most prior versions. Hulk is actually in control in that one and rarely goes into blind rage. He actually thinks about what he's doing and Banner is more of an active conscience than a control mechanism. I makes hulk not just a more effective fighter in the show, but a more dynamic character.
  22. I wonder what's the storyline going to be for the change to Fury.
  23. Given this version of the hulk, it would have to be "evil smile" (think when wasp told hulk to "get him" when they were going after Graviton in Breakout). Angry hulk means raging, which is avoidable. Smiling hulk basically says "I see you and I will break you" in a far more focused manner.

Agreed. I HATED that last interpretation. All they wanted to do with that was make a drugged up version of the moronic version of the Hulk (aka, "Hulk SMASH!" being his vocabulary).

Well I like the ice slide (and other types) saying "Marvel can't sue us because another character uses it" isn't exactly a compelling argument, especially when you don't know if there was a deal behind the scenes to allow it)
