The only way to eliminate this problem is to make everything exactly the same, and [u]that makes everything dull and boring[u].

Rendering a few sets great and almost everything else garbage does not?
With the big variety of powers in this game, it's complicated to see that powers are balanced, standarized and made equivalent. But the way things are (for years now) isnt like anyone is even trying too hard. -

Is Battle Axe really that bad and if so, why is that the case?
[/ QUOTE ]
It's the case because battle axe has no rage and super strength does. Simple as that really.
[/ QUOTE ]
^This.
As happens in many situations in this game, Developers make a couple equivalent sets, then out of the blue they pick one of them and add something that makes others subpar.
Like Impale, for example, is the reason there are so many spine scrappers around PvP... in detriment to everything else.
As far as PvP go, you have like 20% viable combination of powers. 45% if you're really stubborn, persistant and rich.

Badly designed/projected idea.
Good News: They try to come up with ideas to fix it with each new expansion.
Bad News: Failed big time so far. -
I'm well aware, mac; got them as fillers really. Neither need Rain of Fire. Why, I'm totally open for suggestions on the 3 slots that it would open.
I did consider Leadership but the main weakness of this char is getting out of end, so I'm not sure the extra toggles would make for it. By all means, give me some opinions.
(ps: dude, I think you gave me a hand at every pvp toon idea I came up with since I returned mac. Thanks a lot mate.) -
I came up with this on Mid's. If someone could help me with some critiques/directions, I'll be thankful.

I knew I have a ranged character somewhere. I have this Fire/Kin corr which was cool to pvp with before I left (prior i12). Back now, I notice some differences overall (for instance, it looks like it is worth having the snipe now with the activation time thing).
My question here is more about Set IOs (for a Fire/Kin Corr on PvP). Which ones I should particularly look for? I'd appreciate a second option on sets considering that the best sets are probably super expensive and have a "junior" version (like Numina/Miracle).
Thanks in advance for those who can help me on it! -

It's a game for fun.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not any fun on it if you're getting frustrated at the way your powers look cool and are awful. I have a DB Stalker; I know.
The coolest looking sets (Assault Rifle, Dual Blades, Archery) are completely crippled when on a PvP game. If nothing you do has any effect and all they do has a LOT, where's the fun on it?
If it was well balanced, I'd make a AR/DEV Natural based pvp'er on spot. But hey, the devs say that getting hit by fire is that much more fatal than being sniped by a hi-tech rifle.
Sigh. Sorry for the rant. -
On Virtue, its a rare occasion. Your best (or even, less worse) bet would be Siren's Call, its slightly more active. Now on times, night time (9pm EST or so) is usually more probably to find people there, specially weekends.
All in all, remember that the Mission Architect (aka "hai guyse i made a self-absorbed story into a gaem") feature is on Open Beta on the Test Server; many people are on the Test Server and will stay there dicking with how epic their run-of-the-mill mutant-chick-in-distress rescue can be.
Also note, Virtue is unnoficially assumed to gather the RPing population of the game, which is usually advert to PvP because people really dont care for their bio's saying they're powerful and strong, they'll still spam unbalanced powers and take them down just like that. (on a personal note, I'm interested on both, and find both lacking in quality except if you pre-made the group involved on it).
All in All, PvP in Co* is... somewhat frustrating, as there are the sets that work and the (vast majority) that does not. Dev's have said that improvements are being worked on it; but you gotta agree with our nice fellow Renraku's signed quote.
Cmon Ren, post it here for them. -

You can do the same, or better damage with the ranged attacks
[/ QUOTE ]
Are you sure about that? I'm not the most brilliant Set-Builder around, but at least last time I checked on Mid's a secondary like NRG dealt more than the primary. I was doing something wrong maybe?
Confirmations? -
Storms and Spines are the sets I hate the most to face against.
-
As title suggests.
Are Blappers, or at least the typical NRG/NRG blapper, viable choices for PvP at any level? -
My first stalker was a DB one, an I'm a PvP enthusiast. This my mileage with DB: I tried builds. Used Mid's for combinations of Sets. Asked every forum-active PvP'ers who liked Stalkers. And did [/b]a lot[/b] of Siren's Call.
My odissey with DB rendered a nice guide at least, which is on my sig; I did put most PvP insights for the set there. I really tried to get the most out of it PvP-wise.
But short answer: it's very frustrating, limiting, a lot more hard and unpleasant than, say, Spines or Energy.
I seriously wish to know how the devs got to the conclusion that an imaginary energy form is so much more hurting than being stabbed in the belly, but, yeah. -
Badass work, mate, Gideon takes the cake.

Man, I'm such a mess with Set planning.
Using Mids I notice that, sometimes, the Set enhancements end up giving me a bit less return to the specific power than if I used regular IOs. Will the bonuses make up for that?
And also - Numina is way too expensive, should I spam Miracles all over my heals then? Or even Regenerative Tissues, with an extra regular Heal IO, for budget reasons? -
Thanks a lot on the input guys. Clarifying some thingsnow:

Isnt the only use for it running away? I might be wrong but I have the impression that SJ isnt enough to get so far from your henchmen that they'll "pop" near you; meaning if you SJ into a dangerous place, you're screwed because the pets are still taking retarded routes to get to you.
Also, is Assault that great for pvp? I could respec it out to get SJ wondering if it would be worth it. -
I'm totally new to MMs, but I decided to invest some influence on my Ninjas/PainDom MM after I had some fun with it on Siren's. So here are my doubts regarding it:
1) Sets
I'd like if you guys could recommend me what sets I should look after, or at least what kind of bonuses. All suggestions are greatly appreciated.
2)Travel Power
As the Henchmen AI is fairly lame, I got no real travel power, only CJ+Hurdle. I could respec something out for a power tho, anyone really recommends it? Case positive, which one?
3)IO Level
As my main PvP interest is Siren's, should I slot all sets as level 33 tops? Or if you use lv 50's it still works there?
Thanks in advance! -

Ugh. I just got my BS Inv toon to 50 (my first) went into Recluses Victory, and got stomped like a narc in a biker rally. I found out PvP is all about the sets.
So if the sets make such a difference does it matter what build you have really?
[/ QUOTE ]
Usually I'd come with an immature "LOL U MAD CUZ U BAD" reply, but I've been there. At first, PvP really looks like some sort of rock/paper/sissors. Sum it with the way its fast paced and fairly unbalanced, and you are going to have a frustrating experience alright.
However, you realize that there are always some way to work around on pvp with your character. Given, some will require lots of work to do squat, others can overpower many ATs easily. It's really a balance of fiding something that you find cool to play, and that is on the list of "average to good" PvP ATs. It's harsh, but can be fun.
If you dont really have the patience to go there, get roflstomped and come back to try something different, or a different AT, or dont know your AT very well... even the Sets will seem worthless.
My 2 inf. -
On the AT's suggestions on the earlier posts - are spines and energy really the only stalkers worth pvp'ing with? I've been flirting with the idea of a kat/nin. No go?
-
Great info right there, thanks a bunch macskull. Still, if anyone has something to add feel free to.

powers that are mostly worthless in PvE are Godkillers in PvP, and excellent even set defining powers in PvE often do little or nothing
[/ QUOTE ]
Since I'm returning to the game in i13 and still getting the hang of things, could you give me some examples of these situations? -
I'm a returning player, been away from the game for more than 1 year. I understand PvP on a game with so many varied powers and ATs just HAS to have balance issues, but I still had some fun. So, help me figure how to best return to pvp with these few questions:
1)Level
Hands down my favorite PvP instance is Siren's. While it caps on lv 30, if you go there at higher levels, the slots past lv 30 will help there? Or IO Sets that are higher? All in all should I expect much harder time on PvP before level cap?
2)Where?
I know 3 relatively active places to PvP: Sirens, RV, and Arena. Which of them you guys think to be more balanced? Or each of them has their own FotM?
3)IO Sets
Many expensive/famous IO sets have relatively small bonuses. Its few percent bonuses will make a noticeable difference for PvP? Basically, assuming 2 players with relatively similar skill, how huge is the advantage of a full IO slotted toon versus another full decked out in IO SETS?
4)Pool Powers
Is it true that Flurry and some other powers laughable at past are now interesting for PvP? Why?
5)Suggestion
My current main is a MM (Nin/Pain), and I plan to start a PvP oriented character soon. Any AT/comboyou guys would recommend (redside or blueside)? I'm looking for anything really, that is solid enough to start getting the "feel" of pvp again, before trying more original/daring toons.
Guess thats it for now. Thanks in advance everyone. -
A question about this topic tho: this kind of build would only be good at RV/later leves? I'm asking this because my fave zone pvp is Siren's and I think this build while cool would still lack most powers at lv 30 (with /SR that is).
Or it would work nicely there too?
