VEATs don't get a tutorial as it is now. Don't be surprised if that doesn't change, and if HEATs get the same treatment.

Since the new tutorial has a moral choice(s) that effect your future contact trees, there's probably no easy way to enforce those choices on the EATs without being ridiculous. Chances are it will be easier just to start them in the starting zone under the presumption that people playing them should know enough without the tutorial.
  2. You really are better off making use of one of the available failsafe features built into the game, instead of trying to modify the client.

You admit you know you're not supposed to, and that means you know we're not supposed to tell you if we know. Modifying the client is flat out not allowed to be discussed here.

Sorry, you're mistaken. I've been accidentally or intetntionally been clicking or hitting every targeting method I can think of, and have never gotten anything but an error when I attempt to target myself. I've been playing before you left, while you were gone, and currently, and I've played every AT. It doesn't happen. Sorry.

  5. @Grim Heaper- I wasn't really considering the concept of capping. I was dealing with things from the position of someone coming at this as a new experience looking to get the most bang for their buck in a 3 person grouping.

From that perspective I stand by what I said. Picking compatible buffs is going to be a lot more noticeable to novices and make their leveling experience through the first 40 levels or so a lot smoother and easier, even if they don't go all in for the numbers side of the game.

Think of what I said as the conceptual (not technical) application of designed group combos.

I'm a big believer in helping people get the theory down before diving into the specifics, so that when someone points them to a nitty gritty guide about Defense or Resistance or Buffs, they have a solid foundation that let's them more easily see how that information can be applied beyond just the single character.

    Quote:
A scrapper or stalker may have a tougher time reaching caps (soft or otherwise) than a tank, and might benefit from additional protection in the areas they have naturally... but not always - Super Reflexes can get damn near the softcap on all three positions on it's own without elude - in this case much of the buffs will go well over the softcap and not be useful for most content (Granted that for defense, that last 5% effectivly doubles his survival, so...)
In the middle to lategame, you're correct. However in the first 30 levels or so (before you have SOs and the slots to put them in) that's rarely the case. I was giving her concepts that would smooth out their early leveling experience and help them avoid some common pitfalls that may lead them to say certain sets or buffs or useless. If they'd taken that SR scrapper in your example and paired it with Sonic Buffs, they most assuredly wouldnt have as smooth a time leveling up as they would with more compatible buffs.
  6. I'm maintaining the status quo on my only account that matters.

I took advantage of last week's Steam sale to upgrade an old trial of mine to GR, but that is going to be Premium by default since I'm not paying to renew it after the free month. I just want a second account with GR access to use as a pad if needed.

Dropping thousands of dollars to get a pop video made for your teenagers birthday doesn't really strike me as something people do "for fun"

If I remember the stories right, they did the vanity studio package because no legitimate studios, agents, or producers thought she was good.

Let's put it this way. There's a reason her voice is synthed to hell and back.

My hubby likes to stand back and control the flow of battle, whether that be through buffs, healing, or crowd control. He's the tactician.

The brother-in-law is more of a...let's just say, the non-tactical type. He likes to jump in and mix it up, whether that be in melee or ranged, he just likes to make things go boom.

As for myself, I'm in between and enjoy both! I do love to research, as gameboy figured out, but catching up on 6 years can be daunting. That's the type of deep end I enjoy jumping in, however
That's insightful and I think I can give you some recommendations:

Your brother in law sounds best suited for Melee. That's perfectly ok and actually makes a lot of game situations simpler.

You and your husband may enjoy Dominators (I think particularly you would). A good dominator can work at any range, including melee, and has really strong control. They're my favorite Archetype simply for the flexibility.

If your husband doesn't want to worry as much about offense, or you guys as a team want the option of buffs, then he should make a Controller.

Now the second part to all this is to look for those kind of stacking or synergy deals I mentioned. Here are some examples:

Compatible controls- if you go Dom and your husband goes Controller, then look at getting matching or similar Control sets. Common mistakes to avoid would be pairing a set that uses a lot of Knockdown killing Immobilizes with a set like Ice Control that relies on a knockdown power to keep things out of the fight.

Compatible Protection- If your Brother in Law goes with a Melee and your husband takes something with buffs, then look closely at the Armor set for the melee, and pick a buffing set that would give significant boosts to the kind of Protection your melee already has. For example if he picked Shield Defense, then picking Cold Domination or Force Field both provide buffs to Defense that would make him much tougher. Counter example would be picking a resistance based Electric Armor and trying to use those same buffing sets. He would get a boost since any protection is good protection, but the synergy wouldn't be there, and you wouldnt get as much kick out of it while leveling up.

Compatible Offenses- This is kind of similar to the compatible control, but it applies to everyone on your trio. If one of you picks a pretty chaotic set with lots of knockback, this could cause friction if another partner takes a set that's more methodical and really shines when things get clumped together and melted with Area Effect damage. Basically, there's nothing wrong with chaos if A) you're all generating it and having fun with it, or B) you each know how to moderate it and can not annoy someone else trying to clump things up.

Sometimes there's nothing more fun than having 3 Storm Summoning characters sending every group in the room flying and just cackling in glee (trust me I've done it), but as a day to day thing that may not be your cup of tea.

I'm being very deliberately vague as to different sets and which I think are "better" simply because my preferences may be different than your's. On top of that, I'm vague because very nearly EVERY set in the game is pretty well balanced, and there aren't really anything stinky horrible to avoid.

If you end up having specific questions about specific sets, I'm sure I or anyone else would be happy to help.
  10. Many times, Masterminds aren't that easy for inexperienced players to get a handle on right away. I think that's what DragonTiger was getting at.
  11. Mistaken impression Techbot. What you're running into is Invul NPCs who have the old version of Unstoppable.

AkuTenshii- I've fought Shock Treatment recently and the godmode didn't last that long at all. Additionally there were some cases where NPC godmodes were putting them over the Resistance cap, and a lot of those were fixed. When I fought her last, I would have been able to hurt her but it wasn't worth the Endurance since I was myself an Electric Melee.

So, I think the argument that some people are going to be upset by a change in nomenclature, while true, is not a reason to not do something that would clarify the roles and make the majority of players identify with their AT's better.

The real issue here is the majority of the population of COX is Blue side. As a hero I'd like my Hero to have an AT that at least sounds Heroic. So if I want to play a defender type character which has more offensive punch--because we all know that defender damage for the most part sucks--I'd rather not be called a Corrupter.

The ideal thing would be for them to make AT's so you can choose which set is your primary and which set is your secondary. But that's not going to happen.
It's not a matter of being calcified and not liking change. It's a matter of fact that these changes wouldn't mean anything. It's the same thing that comes up when people ask for new Origins.

There's no functional benefit that forcing a name change on everyone who picks that alignment would bring, that telling the people who want a different name that they can think of their AT as whatever name they wish wouldn't do without the confusion and disruption.

There's a reason they got rid of End Gain and End Drain enhancers and made them End Mod. They were functionally the same and having 2 different names was needlessly complicated and confusing. Same thing applies here.

I don't need a name to feel heroic of villainous. My alignment is determined by my actions and attitudes.
  13. In a game where I still see people asking "what side is that on?" when people are forming TFs, SFs, Trials, I think adding 10 new archetype names simply for the minor difference in tone they evoke would be needlessly confusing.

People just shorten names down to 1-2 syllables or an abbreviation most of the time anyway.

  15. Beyond the obligatory "anything works, really" I would say you have two basic options:

    1) A mix of ATs/Powers among the 3 of you. This can lead to some really awesome synergies, but it's harder to pull off when you're not familiar with the system, and different set's strenghts/weaknesses. If the 3 of you have radically different playstyles and tastes, we can discuss this more, but it wouldn't be my default choice for 3 returning players looking to group regularly.

    2) Three of a Kind (or close to it)- This is a quick and dirty way to get some of the advantages of synergy, through stacking of similar abilities. Normally an easy choice would be for me to say 3 Fire/Dark Corruptors. Lately though with the changes to some Buffing powers, I'd say take a look at some corruptors with Cold Domination or something. With 3 of you, each person would always have double shields from the other 2, and later on that would be strong enough to make you all effectively tanks. From there, you could each pick a different blasting set to suit your tastes, or all go with the same (again, for those stacking benefits). The other plus to picking 3 similar characters, is that anything each of you learns, you can share with the other 2. That makes it easier for casual players to pick up knowledge on an occasional basis.

If it's working correctly, that shouldn't be the case. It should work like procs in other Pseudo Pet or Rain powers, i.e. checking every 10 sec.

  22. I won't give you a specific build but some basic tips to help you on where to focus:

    1) IO sets to cap your Positional Defenses. In my Mace Shield Brute I ended up using primarily Mako's Bite, Obliteration, Eradication, and then IOs with bonuses to all 3 positions so that my Melee, Ranged and AoE defenses were all at or above 45%

    2) Since you are Broadsword, you can afford to get fewer Melee defense bonuses, as long as you plan to use Parry.

    3) don't skimp on your Resistances. Shield is primarily Defense based, but it gets solid amounts of Damage resistance and that shouldn't be ignore. A good way to get some solid additional Resistance, would be to use the Cardiac in your Alpha Incarnate slot once you get that far. This provides Resistance and more importantly cuts down on the Endurance costs for EVERYTHING. Since Shield and Broadsword are both END intensive, that's very important.
  23. I would like to see at least one Judgement power that works as an Automatic OnDeath power instead of a straight up attack. A super debuff + autofiring self rezz would be neat.

Just so the point is made, they've been doing this for months already so that people can work out their issues with getting it to work.

I'm not going to pretend to know what you've gone through already, or pretend I know how to solve your issues. But I also won't pretend your problems can't be solved. Even if it takes an ongoing dialog with QA or the devs responsible for interfacing with the launcher, it can be done.

I don't think they're evicting you, or giving up on you. I think it's going to take some work on both your parts.

Why revamp it only to use it for tutorial when you could get so many other uses out of it?
You're failing to understand a key thing about a game like this.

    1) what the devs mean by revamp and what they players mean are 2 different things most of the time. In development terms more often than not they're better off starting from scratch and making a zone very similar instead of trying to salvage the old zone and edit it.

    2) They feel like they can "get rid of a zone" because as much as some people love GC it is ultimately redundant. It's a victim of the old design premises they used where more zones were better, and have since learned that's not true.

    3) It gives them a way to advance the story of the game in a meaningful way. No one who plays this game a long time enjoys seeing things look pretty much the same as it did years ago. If they can make big changes and at the same time tell a story that's meaningful, they're going to try it.

    4) as people said, it's not going to completely disappear. It's going to be redesigned to fulfill a higher purpose. We need new updated tutorials. We need the story of the game to move in big ways. This should (I hope) accomplish that.
