    What the hell!

If you don't normally get annoyed, don't start now. File a petition, get in touch with a GM and I'm nearly certain they will be able to resolve things to your satisfaction. Getting mad just makes the people you're mad at less likely to help you.

Answer: No. From the way people use it, dead seems to mean that teams can't be formed, people can't be interacted with, and there is generally a feeling of emptiness on the server itself. In Pinnacle's case Taskforces, Trials, and regular and irregular mission teams are abundant. The catch? Joining these events are a *lot* easier if you join the Global Channel for that server's events (PinnBadges) and know when the peak time is.

Question: Is Pinnacle dead to me (A player who plays at 12:00pm CST)?

Answer: Perhaps. It varies between days, but most of the time very few events form up when I am on, and I end up soloing. It sure 'feels' dead to me.

Question: Is Pinnacle dead to me (A player who plays at 10:00pm CST)?

Answer: Certainly not! Every single time I log in, something is forming and people are chatting in the global channels. I have to beat the team invites off with a stick. Super Groups run multiple trials, people are out hunting Giant Monsters, teams are advertising for more members...it is glorious!

When I first started playing on Pinnacle I did so during my prime time which coincided with Freedom's. I felt like the server had very little activity even after I joined PinnBadges, however I later found out that the server just peaks at a different time. The community is great and the events are abundant, you just need to know where to look for them.

Also, I believe the developers have expressed an interest at looking into a solo advancement path for those who wont/can't/don't-like-to group if it is any consolation.
There's also another factor of perspective to remember. It's willingness to pick something you want to do and start it. I can't tell you the number of times I've seen upwards of 6-7 different people pop on, and say "is anything forming?" or "any interest in <list of 4-5 things>" within the space of 30min or so, and none of them none ever bother to get in touch with each other, settle on one thing to do, and then get a few more people interested to get started.

People who sit around waiting for something they want to happen, then complain the server is dead when their thing doesn't magically appear, grind my gears. Passive language and inquiries don't provoke responses. It's really not a mountain of work to get 4-8 people together in this game and do something fun.

The day the OP came along and posted his complaint is the same day I logged on at 5am because of insomnia, saw someone I knew forming an early morning ITF in Pinnbadges, and I got on the team and we rolled out, and had a GREAT time. It doesn't happen every day, but it happens when someone who isn't afraid to start their own team steps up to the plate and decides to make some of their own fun.

As for question 2, my converted scrapper ran it through Ouro just fine having never had any of them. One of the contacts will talk to you at the appropriate time. It may be based on origin or something, but the first I tried (Vince) helped me.

Thanks again! . I know ive said it a lot but it's always sincere
Sounds great! Assist targeting can be very helpful in the early levels, or when newer players aren't so sure about what to target when. All 3 of you should be working on your Identification and prioritizing skills so that later on as you face bigger groups, you can ween yourselves off assist targeting and split your focus to handle multiple important targets.

as for what a 50 can do without trials. well you can work on a build, run itf which is alot easier to organize than a trial and you get incarnate shards for it to work on your alpha slot. run ae architect missions for tickets for salvage and recipe rolls and turn those into cash, i didnt even try last night and made 200 million on recipe drops just from running itfs so I can get my build right for my defender. if all else fails just go work on another character and run a few missions and watch pinnbadges till a trial starts up. like i said about 5 or more started up last night and i know one of them we didnt even get a full raid to run it so we were looking for more people before we ran it. there is plenty going on, sounds like you are not in the right channels to get in on the runs.
Good advice darkangel, that's exactly what I was going to say.

Pinnacle is definitely not dead. Join PinnBadges, and I or another mod will unsilence you as soon as we see you there.

If a newbie can sub and get to tier 9 in 3 years, then I and everyone else over that mark should be there already. Especially given the whole "we care about our loyal customers" schtick.
All it entitles you to is having those things for the amount of time you've had them so far, which is in advance of when anyone who joins the game today will get them.

It's really just that simple. It's there stuff to give out when and how they choose. They're not taking it from you after you've already gotten it, they're just making it easier for people now to get them a bit sooner, because face it: the amount of time the game is going to be here in the future is more than likely less than the amount of time it's been here so far.

You've gotten what you're entitled to. Don't go thinking you're entitled to more.

    back to Alpha

Additionally, there are Alpha slot recipes that use Thread components. No need for a conversion.

Look up the weekly strike target and get on a group running that TF. You get shards as normal drops, you get whatever alpha salvage is granted at the end (if there is any), and you get a Notice of the Well as a bonus the first time you run it each week. This week is the ITF.
  8. This is looking good to me. I'm very pleased.
  9. I think this would probably stand more chance of happening if one of the melee attacks were replaced with the old version of Cobra Strike, but otherwise it seems pretty good.
  10. Here's the most recent dev comment on the subject. You'll note Sam, this is not Noble Savage. So they have in fact commented on the subject.

    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...42#post3636042

In short: They know we want it. They know we want it badly. As several devs (going back to Backalley Brawler when he was here) have said, it is a question of doing the system work to allow for it. It's not that they don't want to do it because it's a nasty job, they don't do it because they have other big system changing tasks they deem more important at present.

    iXP Bank

In addition, the thing to remember is everything we've been told about the Incarnate path (in terms of the game lore), is it's just that; a path. Not an open lawn where you can go to whichever section most suits your fancy, but a path you have to follow in some semblance of an order. You don't have to stop and smell the flowers at each spot, but you do have to pass by. The Experience Points are symbolized by walking by. The crafting and slotting of powers are symbolized by stopping to smell the flowers.
  12. Either Ms Liberty works for missions that send you to her (last I knew).

Missions that go to Galaxy City are all being modified to deal with the change in status, just like all old missions to Faultline or Rikti Combat Zone got fixed.

Controllers don't get Speed Boost until level 20. Stamina and Accelerate Metabolism may be enough to cover the gap until then, you're correct, but then again maybe not, as Dark Armor can get expensive.

Personally I'd rate a Knockback Protection IO as a much higher priority buy than the +END proc, but they're both good things to keep an eye out for.

Yes, the difficulty settings are not to be trifled with lightly.

Here are some general tips I use to work my way to higher and higher settings.

Virtual Team size before added levels- Add more foes to the mix before you consider bumping up the level of those foes. In fact, consider lowering their relative level to -1 and bumping up the numbers even more. At least once your team has some solid Area effect powers. When you bump the levels of enemies higher than your own, their damage goes up, and so does their chance to hit you. Additionally your damage goes down, and your chance to hit them does too.

Warm up missions are your friend- Don't be afraid to start slow. Keep your settings easy for a mission and then increase gradually. Once you're comfortable stay with that a while.

Beware different enemy groups- There are a lot of factors at work to determine how tough things are. Not the least of which are some inconsistencies in the power levels of different enemy groups. For example Council are easy at almost any level. However Vahzilok of the same level tend to give players fits until they have powers that help mitigate toxic damage or nullify the ongoing aggro. So basically be prepared to adjust your settings up or down until you have a solid working knowledge of what the different enemy groups mean for your Trio.

Beware the leveling curve- As you level up, so do the enemies. Not only does this mean more damage and more hit points, it means new variants and additional abilities. Council are easy when they're just guys with guns. In the early 20s though you can be in for a rude awakening when they start throwing melee unfriendly warwolves at you. Longbow can be the same sort of deal, but they get a very nasty jump around about level 41. The Nullifiers get their final power, a Sonic Grenade, 2-3 of those and I've seen single groups wipe out entire teams. Best way to deal with this kind of thing is keep your eyes open when the NPCs pass the 10s, i.e. every 10 levels or so is roughly when you can expect to see jumps in NPC powers.

The difficulty settings are a fantastic tool. Don't be afraid to use it. But don't feel like you have to continually hammer yourself against a brick wall if things aren't going well.

Edit- one last tip: Purple (Defence) inspirations are your friend. Sometimes buying a tray full of those and popping 3 at a time is enough to get you through some tough spots without changing your setting. It's a cheap easy way to mitigate incoming attacks.
  16. Let's put it this way. Last night my friends and I did an ITF. We had 3 buffers, a Cold, a Force Field, and a Thermal. For fun, the Tanker decided to turn his toggles off. As he went along he turned off more and more until he was just running travel powers.

    You don't need the Trinity.

I have a feeling there will be very little Co-op going on. Just new characters without any chosen alignment each running their missions solo. You can't team in the Moral Choice missions in Praetoria, I doubt you will be able to in the new Galaxy City.

    Tip drop rate

I did read your post. I just don't care about dealing with outlier experiences through system changes when there are easy methods available ingame to alleviate them. I didn't try to follow what you were saying about drop rates, because they're clearly made up numbers that don't mean anything in practical terms.
  19. I'm pretty sure I saw @Tsugaru unsilence that globalname last night. Make sure you have the channel added to you tab, and make sure there isn't a little white square next to your name in the PinnBadges list.

welcome to the channel though. I'll keep an eye out for you if I'm wrong about the above.

I run missions to level 5, then I go to King's Row and unlock my Police Scanner. From there I run scanner missions until I get a Safeguard and run that. That gets me a Raptor Pack to help with mobility.

From there I either keep running Scanners or contacts until I can run the new Posi TF. Then I run that at least once.

Another more Team-y option is to see if there are any groups running Hero Tip Missions in Atlas Park. Often they don't mind taking along a friendly and helpful sidekick and the missions are fun (much more fun than AE farms).

    influence cap

It is 2billion. Sorry you think that is low, but it's relatively easy to mail extra influence to other characters temporarily.
  22. Sounds like you guys came up with a fun trio, good luck with it!

One last bit of advice. If any of you get tired or annoyed with your choice, don't feel like you have to stick with it "for the team" The Sidekick system makes it super easy for one of you to make a new trio member to try out, and still contribute while you're catching up.

Also remember all 3 of you can make other ideas to try. That's what all those slots are for

    Tip drop rate

I refuse to accept your anecdote qualifies as statistics in any way.
Additionally I refuse to accept that your anecdote is the norm, when I and most people I've played with have a different experience.

Translation: I've heard barely a handful of people complain of these dry spells you're talking about. The only time I've had it take me more than 10minutes hunting for a starting tip was once when an event hit and I had to move to another zone.

I don't think detailing your worst case scenario is an effective reason to make a change.

My personal tip hunting tactics never really vary, and have yielded consistently good results. I go to Talos or Sharkhead and look for lvl 20+ bosses or Lts. I generally ignore minions. Drop rates have been consistently better on higher ranks for me, and I never feel like the time spent looking for them was wasted. If I'm on someone whose level is low enough that they're not blue or gray conned, then I ask in a channel for someone to let me be their sidekick for the few minutes I'm hunting. If no one is available to help, I just take the few extra minutes it takes to kill them straight up.

Bottom line - I don't think you've demonstrated what the actual tip drop rate is. Any frustration you felt was because the situation you were in doesn't seem to have made a few simple allowances for smoothing out your experience. This isn't a matter of lack of downside, it's a matter of lack of upside making it not worth the development time.

There's a third type. Ambushes that divide themselves among the team and attack. This is why occasionally Door Sitting characters get attacked, or in a Katie Hannon TF people in the back row not doing anything get an equal share of the aggro.
