PinnBadges name purge
DOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!
Just the way I like it.
Be well, people of CoH.
For a little while last night we set PB private because of someone who didn't understand No means No. The channel is now back to Public, but silent on Join. Feel free to ask someone with a star to get unsilenced.
If no one with a star is online at the time you are, leave a message here and we'll get it sorted out.

And for the love of god stop PM'ing me in game. I may be a badge guru but I am not a Operator of the channel.
And yes, I've already asked to help with the channel and was told no. But considering what happened to the Old Pinnacle Badge channel I don't blame them. Of course I'm no threat to the channel but oh well

I'm just thinking ahead here, but if the same sort of thing happens with PinnBadges that happened with Pinnacle Badges, what will be the next channel name? I nominate PinnBad.

We will honor the past, and fight to the last, it will be a good way to die...
We'll keep that name in mind , but we didn't have access to the command that purges inactive names before, and Tsugaru has been very careful about having too many mods this time around.

might need to start trolling pinnacle badges.....see what i can stir up
I got purged! Me, ME!! Such a blow to my fragile ego
since apparantly i can never catch someone with a star on can you unlock global name undeadlord. I came back after a couple of months due to computer deciding to die on me and couldnt talk. ill try to catch someone on tonight to unsilence me but if that can be done id appreciate it.
see yall ingame.
I'm pretty sure I saw @Tsugaru unsilence that globalname last night. Make sure you have the channel added to you tab, and make sure there isn't a little white square next to your name in the PinnBadges list.
welcome to the channel though. I'll keep an eye out for you if I'm wrong about the above.

he might of, I was asking how to get it unpurged and logged off before I could test it, got sleepy and was tired of trying to figure out how best to respec my character. thanks though, ill test it tonight.
I havent checked to see if I was affected, but I have a request. Going forward would there be any chance of posting the list of whacked global names, just in the interest of disclosure and communication?

There's no way to list who has been inactive for how long. There's no way to predict who would be hit when we purged. There's also no output when the command is run to show the names that were removed.
Sorry, it's just a player run channel and it's easy to get back in and get unsilenced (unless you are on our naughty list). With the threshold for re-entry so low I don't see much reason to come up with a way to list the people who did get purged. Besides, that was the first purge since we started the channel a couple years ago. I don't think there's going to be another once in a blue moon type of event like that anytime soon.
PS- I've seen you talk in the channel after the purge. You're ok. If you had gotten hit, it's easy to check. Just open your Friendlist and click on the menu at the top. It lists all your lists, and channels you're in. Selecting any of them shows a full list of online members and their status. If you don't see PinnBadges you can just rejoin. If you see a white square next to your name you can simply ask to be unsilenced.

No worries. I made my request with the understanding that technical and practical issues could impact the answer. It's all good.

So, people are talking up PinnBadges, and I decided to join to maybe find a team for my solo-unfriendly pre-pet Earth/Empathy controller.
Today I log on, and join the channel! And I try to participate in the conversation (because it's interesting, and I'd rather converse than just plop in a "hey, team plz?"). But... the channel denies me.
How can I make the channel like me?

Great, now you've made me curious about what happened to the old channel. Whatever happened was apparently during one of my lack-of-gaming-computer times.

We had a channel. It got full. We made a second channel. For both of these channels, who was in charge and who got made moderator and why was pretty much free range. People left, got replaced, made their friends mods too, and on and on.
At one point, someone with mod privs took exception to an attempt to discipline someone who was causing trouble in channel, so they started kicking, silencing, spamming obscene messages (this was back before all mod actions had a name attached). Basically the Phantom Mod killed the old channel.
A few people made the decision to start over, and that was PinnBadges. The people who are mods for this channel are less than 10, we all know each other, and we all talk to each other about how to handle things. Everyone with a star can act, but when that action is more than short term, it's talked about with other mods.
So thats been about 2-3 years now, and it works. When we had issues with someone in channel over a period of months, the decision was made to make the channel silence on entry. This means if we gag someone, than can't simply leave the channel, come back, and start talking (something our problem child did). It's a minor inconvenience for new people, and more day to day work for mods, but it puts quick end to any serious problems without hours of ongoing drama (which is something none of the mods want to deal with). We're here to play just like everyone. We wanna have fun too, and dealing with tells or being unable to let the channel run on its own for a little while makes that impossible.
So that brings us up to this thread. Instead of having to start another iteration of the channel we used the command to kick inactive players and make room. People have been really understanding about that and everyone has my thanks.
As for mods being mods, I don't say this to be rude or overbearing, but just as a general principle:
Anyone is welcome to come or go as they wish. Feel free to start your own channel and run it however you like, no one in PinnBadges would hold it against you (unless of course you did it simply to talk crap about the mods of Pinnbadges because you have a stick inside your body somewhere)
We really try to make the channel fun but effective, without putting huge limits on what people say. Basically if you follow the Code of Conduct for the game, and aren't a consistently bad teammate or leader, you're good to go with me (and probably the other mods).
As always, anyone who has got issues is free to talk to me (or any other mod) about it. Just remember I wasn't kidding when I say we all talk to each other.

Very funny.
I wish there would be some actions taken against members of the channel that have used said channel to discriminate against other members, and have gotten other members of the channel to harass other players in private.
That's why I'm not in PB any more.

Hi folks, just wanted to let everyone know that the PinnBadges mods used one of the handy (and well hidden) operator commands to purge a bunch of inactive globals.
If you got removed in error, please don't be offended, it wasn't personal! Just rejoin the channel and scroll through the list until you see someone with a star. Send a tell and they'll unsilence you posthaste.
For people that didn't know about us, now's your chance! PinnBadges is one of the most active channels on Pinnacle (or in the game) for grouping, asking questions, getting badges (duh), or just chatting.
Right clicking on your chat window and find us! or I think /chanjoin PinnBadges works too.
