  1. Hilariously I just hit the same thing (again). If anything, NCSoft should have made their freaking subpar launcher do the verification, not try to roll it into cityofheroes.exe. The launcher already has the hashes, and checking a file's hash is quite easy to do, especially in a language like .Net where you can do that in just a few lines of code.

I, unfortunately, don't believe there's a way. There should be a way to bypass the verification process (likely not with a flag to coh.exe), but I've not looked into that.

These problems are due to allowing them to return. That's what I'm trying to say. That's also the real reason why we had a 'VIP head start', to try to get as much of it cleared out before they started allowing the Freems/Preems back in... but many issues can't be found until they let the floodgates open.

You can only test in miniature so much before you have to go full scale. In the case of software, 'full scale' generally always means release. Betas, even open betas will only get you so far.

It's not like we just happened to have some issues just randomly appear in late September. These are due to i21 and Freedom's launch.
  3. Since Lion has that fancy-pants Full screen mode, has anyone done any testing to see if CoH can be forced/tricked into taking advantage of it? I've heard of some programs a while back that you could use to try to force any app to be a 'full screen' app, but I also heard those didn't work so well...

I think it'd be nice to be able to just three-finger swipe to go from CoH to another desktop (far better than the annoying fade, or toggling fullscreen!).

    People choose flying?

I've only gotten a power from the flight pool on a single character in quite a long time (solely because I put the Wonderful Wind-up Wings on her!). If I select a travel power (I often skip it in favor of Ninja Run + Jump Pack). The only pool powers I semi-regularly get are Hasten (+Recharge is always nice, and the hands do not bother me, and never have), Combat Jumping (if it's a Def-based character), occasionally Boxing+Tough. Leadership is also an occasional selection.

Concealment, Flight, Medicine, Presence, and Teleportation are pools I virtually never touch (if the hover period on TP was made optional, I'd definitely pick it up much more often). I'll probably be investing more heavily in Leaping in the future, and maybe Speed on a few characters (Afterburner / LRT don't really motivate me to invest there).

    A. They have no choice. Means poor planning.
    B. They think it's a non-issue...like many here. The same guys that said the game is healthy as is, doesn't need F2P, didn't lose almost half it's playerbase....yep. Fans are the best people to take critical advice from.
Or, C: The Devs are staying ahead of stability issues that comes with a massive overhaul of their infrastructure. Software development is absurdly hard, and it's flat out impossible to catch all issues in limited trial runs (simply because scale matters).

Quite frankly, this issue has had far less issues for me than any others I can think about (and I've been around for the vast majority of them). We've not had the global channels explode constantly for a month. We've not had multiple server crashes a day. We've not had rollbacks. We've not had a constantly lag-fest.

We also used to have regular maintenance every single week day morning (and then Freedom/Virtue crashing occasionally Sunday night), so the servers being down in the mornings is nothing new- except this time we know it's just temporary.

This style of thread springs up every issue... except, normally, it's demanding the Devs take the servers down and fix them, rather than stop trying to fix stuff.

    VIP Server

I've not transferred anything over, but I've rolled up quite a number of alts (2 of which are now in the 20s). Exalted's population definitely seems to be in the same ballpark as Freedom & Virtue (blue side, at least).

Assuming all future ones will start at level 10 like the current, you could roll a character, get to 10, and get eight HVMs (from the 7-part WWD series). You could then use those 8 to buy quite a few very nice recipes (getting to 25 for LOTG wouldn't even be that hard... certainly a lot easier than doing 80 tip missions!). And then, you reroll
  8. AE or regular missions? I ask, because if you can design your enemies, that'll change how you try to improve your survivability, and each have their perks.

I'd double check to make sure you're logging into the correct account. It could be that you're logging into an old, reactivated trial by mistake (I've seen a couple of people that apparently had that issue).

If you're sure you're using the right account, then definitely file a support ticket on NCSoft's website with all the pertinent information.
  10. To show as "VIP" on the forums, go to User CP -> Group Membership -> set it to 'VIP'. That's just a little thing Zwill had been toying with, it's not anything important at all.

What do you mean 'unlock [your] characters in game'? GR no longer offers 2 extra character slots once Freedom hit. Do you mean to access the base 12 slots? That should happen within minutes, if not instantly.

Mostly- but I'd count PVP IOs as not falling into the category of 'regular' as well. When the Archetype IOs launch, I'd consider them a special case as well.

Ah, I figured it'd be at least 800 points (which'd be just shy of the monthly rate for annual subscriptions). If I ever went preem, I'd definitely want at least one unlocked... so I could get those juicy HVMs easily
  13. Tricked by yourself, apparently.

There's lots of activity in low level Atlas (generally several instances). Not sure about iTrials, since I'm just leveling and don't have any 50s I transferred over, but I know a lot of people transferred Incarnates over there. Not looked at Villain side since launch there, but, likely, it's mostly a wasteland just like the Rogue Isles on Villains- at least in comparison to blue.

Just a note, that you buy individual arcs, you don't buy access to all Signature Story Arcs with a single purchase (not counting VIP status)... I'm not sure how much the SSA costs, but, I'm pretty certain that if you plan to buy them each month, it might be a better idea to get a subscription!
  15. The fastest way? Buy a crap load of Paragon Points on the Paragon market. You get 1 token for your first purchase of points, and a further token for every 1,200 points bought. It won't be cheap.

(I doubt the preorder boxes can be found at all easily anymore)

Another problem that is the friends channel. I can type /friend $target$$ BUY SPAM FROM EVILSPAMMERSCO.moo$$unfriend $target and send a message to my target, regardless of my ability to send tells!

They could set up bind fields easily with a huge list of names, to add them all on /friend, then send the spam, then remove, then continue with the next chunk (not sure the size cap of the friends list).

The changes in i21 loosened the restrictions, and, likely, will result in a rise of RMTers if they think there's any money here.

(reminds me when, years ago, I told a friend to get adaware and use that to scan for adware... and he went out and found "adware" (???) and downloaded it... and this person knew more about computers than average!)

You can do it, but your character will suck. People used to try the same sort of thing with Thugs/ back before we got Dual Pistols... Expect to not be liked all that much on teams

    Paragon Rewards

You should also have an icon in-game and on the character selection screen that has three stars shooting up, that will bring up the same window.

Protip: Drag 'em into the lava!

I actually did that (I figured I could solo him due to my low level, lack of mez protection on my scrapper, and no good insps)- got distracted right after getting him into the lava, then couldn't find where he ran off to! He eventually came back, nearly dead! Talk about easy win

You can either buy them on the Paragon Market, or get them from Paragon Rewards. 2 for one slot in Tier 6, 1 in Tier 8, and in Tier 9, there's a repeatable that gives 25 Boosters.

You can't get in from in-game action, only the Paragon Market and Paragon Rewards programs.

Paragon Studios said: "Woot! Power leveling, make it $90!" You obviously don't have as high aspirations!

You can't enhance a single one of those that you listed. Those are all fixed values.

Enhancement Boosters are the equivalent of a level shift for enhancements (for exemplaring/slotting, they still count as the original level), so for procs/globals... they provide zero benefit (since they don't scale with level).

A few globals have an enhancement aspect, like the LotG +Recharge (a small amount of defense)... but the +recharge aspect doesn't benefit.

What benefits most? Sets that are short in one aspect (say, sucky accuracy enhancement), or if you want to take a power 3 slotted with a specific common IO, and switch it to being 2 slotted with it while maintaining largely the same performance.
  24. If she can send a tell, she's premium and not free.
Telling if you're premium vs VIP is a bit harder, as a lot of the stuff unlocks based on the paragon rewards tier... but, if she can do the SSA (10+) or mission in First Ward (20-30), she's VIP.

I soloed it on my DM/Regen Scrapper at ~15. My enhancement loadout consisted of the GameStop enhancements, scattered old SOs from Down From Below, and the DFB temp powers. If you can't do it on an IOed Incarnate... that's your problem

(pretty sure it only uses the TF code to prevent people without access from doing it, without the single zone restriction of First Ward)
