He knew more I think than they usual AE baby, but was still had been only playing a week. Got his first 50 in that time. I thought about global friending him, but I didn't want him to think I was a creep or something

    [/ QUOTE ]

Kudos to you for helping, but anyone who has been playing for a week and has a VEAT will get no help from me.

If people don't do the dirty work themselves, they don't have a right to the spoils IMO. Let him suffer through the learning process, he should have done it the first time around.

    [/ QUOTE ]

... for a lot of the stuff in the game, asking long-time players is the dirty work. No contact or mission ever tells you that you can check how long your pets last through the power window, or where the forums are, or the pros and cons of toggles as far as endurance burning. Unless you want to banish somebody back to Ye Darke Ages of Issue 0 when nobody know where Founder's Falls was and Talos was the dark, scary, forbidden land of death, asking other players is by far the best way to learn this stuff.

Forumites: All those AE kiddies don't know anything about the game! I hate grouping with them at high levels! They're always incompetent and ignorant!
AE Kiddy: *asks questions to try educating himself about the game*
    Forumites: SHUT UP, YOU.

Imagine my surprise when I saw a Posi Blast Acc/Dmg enhancement (forgot the level, somewhere between 30-41) was selling for 10 million influence. 10 MILLION! I priced all the parts to make it, + crafting costs and it only costs in the neighborhood of 4 million to make myself.

My question is this: Are people that lazy or uninformed to actually pay that price? JEEZ...

    [/ QUOTE ]

A little of both, I think, plus the rich thing that was mentioned. I have, when making such things, put them up for 5 million and had them keep selling at 10 million for 20 or so purchases. A lot of people just see the last sell price and consider that the BUY IT NOW price.

It's pretty much the one seekrit you need to know to market. Patience = money.

But if they attacked Galaxy instead would anybody care?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Judging from the old days of RP in Gemini Park on Virtue, villains attacking Galaxy are met with 80% indifference, 10% attempts to put them into headlocks, and 10% being utterly wiped out of existence, flung into space, or blown up.

The latest numbers I saw had Dominators as the lowest non-epic AT overall, and Defenders as the lowest non-epic AT heroside. It's all the letter D's fault.

Works out well when I want to find a team, at least.

I would be far more likely to start in GC if WW opened a branch there than I am now.

[/ QUOTE ] I start in GC all the time. If I want to go to WW, I just take a quick trip to KR. The next set of contacts are usually there anyway.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And none of the broadcast nonsense (and this is not an MA comment). Besides it's not like I need the market or storage before level 5 any way.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, this. I usually don't get my first full load of salvage until right around time for me to move on to KR, so it works out.
  7. [ QUOTE ]
I've had an easier time getting teams together to fight GMs on redside. At least in Cap and Sharkhead.

Sending out a "Deathsurge is up" or a "Scrapyard is at _______" gets some people running to pile in on the action. At least in my experience. And this was on Pinnacle.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Lucky. I spent months trying to get enough people together to deal with Scrappy on Virtue. Could never seem to find more than three or so people interested in fighting him.
  8. [ QUOTE ]
One reason to still slot something with a 1-second interrupt time is DoT's... some of them are less than 1 second between ticks, and therefore can interrupt something with a 1-second intterupt time. No, there aren't many enemies that have them, but it's annoying when there are.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Or just lots of enemies on you. My brute has 2 interrupts in Aid Self, so I can fire it off fairly reliably in the middle of battle.
  9. With any luck, my Earth/Fire will be fully IO'd out by the time it hits, so I'll probably exemp her down for lots and lots of MA material, provided the new search tools can help me find non-crap.

Barring that, I might finally be able to stand to get my Plant/Energy through the last 11 levels.
  10. I deal mostly in crafting set IOs, and I have a reeeeeeally bad memory. I keep track of my purchases/sales with a spreadsheet to remember both 'was that salvage I bought for this thing last night 400k or 1 million?' and '... what was that thing I was selling for eight times the cost it took me to make last week?' I've been considering releasing it once I'm happy with my profits on the off-chance that it could be useful to anybody else, either as an example of how to make money on the market or in proving/disproving market myths.
  11. [ QUOTE ]
It got me wondering. Should those encounters be rewritten? Not necessarily to make them harder (although that might be the effect), but instead to add a whole lot of generic "heroes" (and in the case of the STF, "Villains") to the maps of missions where you attack opposite side zones.

So instead of dozens of generic PPD and/or Longbow, you have SpiritKnight and Starry Lass, etc. And of different levels too. Having a costume contest going on in a mission would be the height of immersion IMO.

I have started seeing really weird, really wrong reflections of my toon in water last week... anyone else noticed this?

    [/ QUOTE ]

A reflection of your character's back in the water? If it's that and you have an ATI card, I believe the solution is to just disable Water Effects.
  13. <QR>

At the very least, could we get rid of the random power tray shuffle that happens after respecs? Even having all empty trays like you get when you switch to an alt build for the first time would be nicer than having your powers placed randomly in a sea of temp powers.

In addition to the stuff listed above, I'd also like a 'respec from level X' feature. Particularly a 'respec previous level' one. I don't think I can count how many times I've had to respec from scratch because I accidentally put a slot into the wrong power while levelling at 3 AM.
  14. I mostly play to get new powers and fiddle with them, so I usually get a character to 50 and then abandon them. There are only two characters I've enjoyed enough to keep playing them past that point, and they're also my only two characters with purples, so I suppose they belong on the list.

My rad/rad defender--About the closest thing to a jack-of-all-trades that I care to have. She blaps! She blasts! She nukes! She debuffs! She heals! She buffs! She controls! She gets teams really easily because some people have yet to catch on that Lingering Regeneration is no longer the best -regen in the game by miles!

And my earth/fire permadom. If rad/rad is a swiss army knife, then the dom is a sledgehammer. She is in charge of MEZZING EVERYTHING in four ways at once and then setting it on FIRE. I'm fairly certain she outdamages my brute once you factor in the AoEs.

I'm still for moving the farmers to their own server.
I don't think AE is the problem. It's the cheaters (yeah, I know I've made that clear before). I'd put the i13 PvP there.
Do I think that farmers might possibly be trying to purple out toons for PvP? could be.... (certainly don't need to purple them out for PvE game play).

Man, PvPers as scapegoats is so old-school. Nowadays, you have to blame people RPing in the D, marketeers, or the Friends & Family Club.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
    QR

Let me say how I've dealt with this issue myself. I accept that I have some characters who are simply godlike while others aren't. This isn't exactly easy for me, because it seems almost arbitrary sometimes.

For example, my new project Solar Paladin, my Fire/Shield Scrapper WILL solo AVs. Probably when she's finished she'll take on the entire Praetorian guard by herself. I don't have any doubt she can. She's already soft-capped to melee and will be to ranged/aoe when she's finished. Her DPS is absurd without Hasten (which will be her 49 power).

By contrast my Ill/FF controller is IOed out, but will NEVER solo an AV. Just doesn't have the DPS. She won't die. Hell, she'll probably never get hit. But with no -regen, she can't kill the dern things. This isn't satisfying to me, but it is what it is. But if I had went */Rad instead of */FF the story as we know would have been much different.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is the big part for me. Before the whole EB vs. AV thing is looked at, I'd like them to be even remotely balanced as to who can defeat them. As it is, even downgraded to EBs, 90% are cakewalks for some builds (and more like 100% with IOs or a good player), while other builds can't even scratch 90% of EBs without inspirations or temp powers. My dark/elec brute has yet to meet an EB she can't solo easily, and I've soloed AVs on her on a whim. My plant/energy dominator, on the other hand... cannot. There's pretty much not a single thing she can do to keep most EBs from splattering her within the first 10 seconds of a fight, short of gobbling inspirations like mad.

As it is, versus anything with the PToD, self-buffs (particularly defense) and a few select debuffs applied overwhelmingly are king. Most controls and debuffs are left out in the cold. Having your 30% -ToHit reduced to -4.5% is kind of a kick in the teeth.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
    @kelenar

if you balance your abilities you will flucuate the bonus, overall getting a net buff, seeing as at the middle-ground where the bar is naturally, you have the same AT mods defs have now

For example, an ff/rad defender enters a mish, bubbles his team mates, and gains a great damage boost.

he then uses it to beat up some baddies, then by the time the boost is nearly gone, he has better bubbles available for his team when he re-applies, granting the team better protection, (as well as himself if he has that AoE bubble/PFF) and then renewing the Damage buff

The biggest problem in this idea is balance among the vastly different defender setups...

    [/ QUOTE ]

I suppose. It just seems like this would highly encourage some people to primarily focus on blasting or defending, then just switch to the other role for about 10 seconds occasionally when the bar's topped out. "If I do nothing but spam healing aura, my attacks are way good when I really need them! Obviously, rocking the aura is the way to go!"

    [/ QUOTE ]

And sometimes still call each other 'ladies' if you get a spawn of all Strongmen. I love hard-coded NPC chat.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
I had a widely acclaimed Idea a while back on the suggestions board about vigilance:

Essentially, it could be like Domination on a see-saw:

There will be a bar, that stays half-way full at all times, and gives no bonuses.

However, as the defender acts, the bar shifts back and forth:

The more a defender attacks, the more the bar goes to the left, increasing a POWERBOOST type effect that will greatly improve their Primary buff/debuff powers

On the flipside, if a defender does a good job defending the team, it is awarded with the bar swinging to the right, giving the defender a nice DAMAGE boost.

Of course, powers would need to be adjusted, and powers like Fulcrum shift shoudl give a measley boost to the right seeing as it is allready a damage boosting power, where as casting a shield would give a nice boost seeing as it's a one-time thing.

this way a defender can outshine Controlers, and do some nice damage, but not all at once

    [/ QUOTE ]

So if you do a good job balancing your responsbilities, you end up mediocre at everything?
  20. Signed x1000. Until I can do this, I really have no use for 90% of the auras.
  21. Slug on my AR/ corruptor. Just raising the rifle and snapping off a single shot to drop a fleeing enemy with contemptuous ease.

Neutron Bomb on my /rad defender... just because I like the mushroom cloud effect, so it gives me a chance to show it off without a zillion special effects distracting me from it.
  22. The million-dollar question is how to balance the rewards between those two difficulty levels automtically, fairly, and in a manner that makes it difficult to game. Frankly, I don't think there is one.

What counts as a harder enemy? It deals more damage to you? It takes longer to kill? It activates more powers during its short lifetime? How do you balance the reward between two members of the same AT who might have totally different experiences with a given enemy, or even two characters with the exact same powersets but different slotting?

Rewarding missions containing a variety of enemy powers and such could be a good start, but even more gameable than the current version if not done extremely well.

"And then we'll all try to beat you up whenever we see you anyway and won't even revoke your mediport access when there's an Arachnos death warrant out for your arrest!"

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, there are a few cases that make about as much sense blueside. In the story arc "The Evil Countess Crey", you get put on the city's most wanted list but still have full access to all of your heroic resources. Hell, you can flit right by a police drone without any worry even though you're on the most wanted list while a lowly Hellion who is only guilty of loitering will get blasted to the Zigg. Longbow guys will still help you out too. Maybe that's just how the most wanted list operates... Might be why Paragon City has still yet to keep people like Nemesis off the streets.

    [/ QUOTE ]

At least that's a single incident... Arachnos as a whole is absurd across villainside. "We have saved you from the Zig! Now you must work for us! But we will SHOOT YOU with GUNS for ENTERTAINMENT! And even when we actually do want to kill you, we'll not revoke the mediport access that we grant you! You can bomb our headquarters and kill our members, but we still rely on your fealty to us to bring you to Siren's Call, and your motivation for doing many missions will be to inspire Arachnos to hire you! And even after you've killed thousands of our operatives, beaten up a patron and Recluse, we'll still continue attacking you and treating you like dirt! Now go work for Phipps, our agent in charge of hitting PUPPIES with BALL PEEN HAMMERS!"

I just hate how it treads some half-insane 5-dimensional line between your benefactor and your enemy.
  24. So how's this put snipes' DPA in comparison to the rest of the ST attacks in the sets?
