I probably wouldn't play an Eminator, but a Sarcophagus sounds right up my alley.

Yeah, not exactly. There were lots of quests there for VIPs. Free/Premium players didn't have access to very many for free. That's part of the reason I stopped playing it. When I was a Premie, I got sick of running the same quests over and over again. When I became a VIP, it was annoying when I'd try to get a party together to run quests and it'd turn out that some of them were Freebies and Some were VIP, and the VIPs didn't want to do the free quests since they had done them too many times back when they were free. But then our Cleric would be a free player and we wouldn't be able to find a VIP cleric to join us on a VIP quest. It just got really annoying putting any parties together; and soloing was nowhere near as friendly as it is here.
But yeah, overall I don't think adding PPs for reaching goals is needed. We already have the ability to earn Hero/Villain Merits and Reward Merits from our actions. Adding more earnable in-game rewards just muddles things I think. -
Quote:That, and they don't expire. It's not going to spoil or rot, it's just going to sit there until you decide one day to use it. Even if you've never used a server transfer before, there might be a reason to use one in the future. I know that when we got free transfers in the past, I transferred a couple characters around just because I could. I went and checked out other servers on characters of decent levels instead of making a lowbie. It was kinda nice. And if you never use transfers now, you can just sit and wait a few months and you'll have several transfers available to you. The longer you wait, the more transfers you'll get. Feel like taking a "vacation" some day down the line? You're taken care of by the multitude of free transfers you've banked.Eh, even if you dont use the server transfers very often, there comes a time where some level 50s need to retire, and the best way to do that is to transfer them to a server you don't use often. It helps a lot to free up slots on your main server (i did it with Arbegla 1.0, as i just couldn't bring myself to delete her, but the 2.0 incarnation is just so much better..)

I played a game with a rather similar business model a while back. VIP players got access to tons of stuff, extra character slots, special points to buy things with, all that good stuff. Premium players were those who had bought some things and got some extra bonuses. Free players got an extended free trial. The first month that I played the game, I spent close to 100$ on random stuff that I felt like I needed to enhance my playing experience. Then I realized that I wouldn't have needed to spend that money at all if I had just subscribed. So I signed up for a subscription and enjoyed playing the game without spending a dime for the next three months. 100$ in the first month. 45$ for the next three months total. Pretty sure things are going to be the same here. Given this type of business model, I'm pretty sure subscribing/being a VIP is going to be worth it.

From what I've seen, there's going to be Paragon Points and there's going to be Reward Points. Not 100% clear on how it's going to work out, but from what was said in that huge thread before I stopped reading it, it sounds like Reward Points will be what gets us the vet reward stuff.

Or "You, yes, all of you from that room over there, gather around me... Oh, hold on phone call, no it's ok, just gather around me and try to hit me, I'll be back in a few minutes to punch you all in the face repeatedly." And then returning from the phonecall 15 minutes later to find no change in health and the agro-cap worth of mobs still trying to hit you.

Quote:The impression I got from Arcanaville's post was that the Coming Storm is just the meteor shower. That everyone has been blowing out of proportion or something. Or that it's not a signal of something to come, it is whatever is going to come. I kinda don't see the Coming Storm being as big a deal as it has been alluded to in-game though.Dollymistress: Post #59
Arcanaville: Post #67
Scooped!
I agree with the sentiment in either case, that this could very well be the preliminary stages of The Coming Storm. I doubt we'll see that in full-fledged glory until the Praetoria story-line is over and done with... UNLESS they plan on putting that on pause and using the Coming Storm as a vehicle to release the next wave of Incarnate content... -
Quote:It's not all that creative. Not without a second bind/macro to tell it to do that.
In order to do something like that on a single key/button you'd need to get creative with bindfiles
flyactivate.txt =
<key> "powexectoggleon Fly$$cc 0$$bindloadfile flydeactivate.txt"
flydeactivate.txt =
<key> "powexectoggleoff Fly$$cc 1$$bindloadfile flyactivate.txt"
And then with Fly toggled off, to get things ready just type /bindloadfile flyactivate.txt
Then when you hit the chosen key, it'll activate fly, change your costume, and rebind what the key does.
Those files just go in the data folder of your CoH directory, for me that's "C:\Program Files (x86)\City of Heroes\data" -
Even though I'm not a huge fan of the new loading screens, that's a very nice usage of them. Well done, sir.
As for my own desktop, here it is. It should be noted however that I keep my start-bar set to autohide and I have a rotation of 500-ish wallpapers. The current one is a mock-up I made for a group project a while ago where we had to market a video game of our own design.

Had never heard of that comic before, so started reading it. CoH gets mentioned in #70.

Quote:That was for the one on Freedom, right? OP never specified which event he was talking about; just that he was "at Poc D on the correct server at the correct time". If OP isn't talking about the event on Freedom on the 27th, then there were no costume codes given out at all.Technically correct, but not totally correct. There were Steampunk pack codes given out, but not until the after party, AFTER the Praetorian Surge was pushed back. Or uh, more accurately, not until after Emperor Cole was distracted by coffee. And bad insults. And took his ball to go home.

Quote:Damn, I think you might owe Hasbro money after that post. That or they owe you money for promoting Nerf for them.I'm pretty sure Posi did ages ago in regards to when something got changed and it was being exploited.
Considering what happened to /regen, I think that qualifies as a nerf. When a set has been so adjusted it's the least appealing for high end builds and it's the only set that doesn't have resistance to debuffs for what it does, yeah, that's a nerf. Actually, a nerf done repeatedly. Like nerfing for the sheer sake of nerfing until you have nerfed it so much there simply isn't anything left to nerf. If you did nerf it anymore then you would feel bad about nerfing it so much that you would have to stop nerfing it and you wouldn't want to nerf it that bad because then you would have to buff it when you could have not done so much nerfing in the first place. -
Quote:I mean no offense, but calm down. The title's don't bestow any special benefit at all and there were no costume codes or anything given out at the time. If I could, I'd gladly give you the 7 Year Anniversary title that I have on my main. It's not doing anything for me. It wouldn't do anything for you though either. Sorry, but I just don't see a reason to be upset about it. If you didn't get the D.O.P.E. badge, then I'd be a bit more understanding. Can't figure out where to post this.
I was told to use the dev forum but not which one, and the obvious ones seem to only let dev's post.
Basically, I get annoyed every time I see someone with the seven year title over their character. I was at Poc D on the correct server at the correct time (20 minutes early, stayed for over an hour) and never saw the titles or codes handed out. Didn't expect a code, but would have like to have seen them handed out. Did want the title after slogging through the lag though.
Seemed to be a lot of misinformation going around about this too. It had been implied to me that they were "72 hour titles" but they are still out there a week later. That was in a response from NC!
Was told the dev's had been and went in my instance even though the scheduled start time hadn't hit. NC says that isn't true, but a lot of folks never saw them.
Didn't have this problem when they did the Animal Pack giveaway/titles.
I know it's minor, but I am rather ticked that I didn't get the title after doing everything required for it, and the only folks at NC I could get responses from say I need to post where the dev's can see, but I'm not sure where that'd be for this.
Yes, this is kinda old news, but I've had emails going back and forth about this and finally dead-ended. Left with the definite feeling that someone isn't playing straight about this as I jumped through all the "advertised" hoops... -
Quote:I'm all for the idea of having your characters hang out in your base whenever you log them off. Basically, any character in the SG that isn't online at the time has a chance to show up in the base. However, I think there would need to be a selectable "approved emotes" list for us to choose for them. I wouldn't much care what my characters do when I find them on others in my base, but some people might get bent out of shape if they were to see their character doing ;dance2 when their character *always* uses ;dance4. Stupid example, whatever, deal with it. Some people are like that and would actually get upset by it. So, as long as we have some control over what our characters will be doing when found in the base, I'm all for it.Ok, that suggestion is pure genius, someone give this guy an internet
I would keep my guys logged off at bases all the time just to be able to see them hanging out.
Also, I know of a certain club/disco room in a SG that would greatly benefit from having NPCs chilling and dancing inside. DJ Zero would get jealous of the setup, methinks. -

Quote:Don't be a poser. Well, I'm a bit biased against Poser, but really. You will get better faster by drawing from life and reference than from tracing over rendered models. posemaniacs.com is a good site for interesting poses to practice from.Feedback would be valued. I am well aware that my handle on anatomy is weak, and I'm planning on getting Poser or something similar to render models, then paint over.
And your art isn't the worst I've seen today, you appear to have a basic understanding of how muscle groups are laid out. While it's not 100% anatomically correct, you can get there from here.
The worst art I've seen today is reserved for some of the things I found on a site I was introduced to. Just google "what is this monstrosity oc" and you'll find it. I would link, but I believe the address would trigger the profanity filter. -

Quote:Was the Retro jacket added when they added the dayjob costume options? I thought it was in the game before that. I ask because if you look closely, you can see that the arms are most definitely not there underneath the sleeves. The sleeves have that little cut into them that you can see through, and it's jarring to see no geometry underneath it at all. There used to be a LOOOT of clipping between jackets and the undershirt underneath them. On the Family, too. You'd see it at the elbows, in the armpits, on the shoulders and so forth. They did change transparency thereafter, though, so you can't see through jackets any more
But the upper arms are... Or were still there.

Quote:You could create her on the Beta server and get auto-leveled to 50 and go wherever you want. Could even roll her as whatever side you want there just to get a screenshot. And you might think about somewhere in Praetoria to get a shot too, lots of bright places in Nova. Not a bad idea in terms of visuals. However, that's level-locked to 25 even if someone were to open a portal for me (why is that, by the way?), and it'll be a while before I take this character to that level. Is there a way I can get access to the Oruo map via the Architect?

I would absolutely love to get a chance to give the costume system a makeover. I need to finish school so I can put in an application at Paragon Studios. Hopefully they'll still be hiring then and would want someone to do this kind of thing. The way things are set up now, there's far too much unnecessary stuff going on. It could be pared down and made more robust at the same time. Shirts and jackets don't need to be their own option set. It's in the code to disable certain pieces depending on other options you set already, so it could be made that shirts and jackets and sleeves are just a subset of options available with anything else and it could block off certain shoulder/glove options if you pick things that just won't work with it. (Currently, it's if you choose Trenchcoat wings and such are blocked off and if you choose regular jackets it gives you a different option set for shoulders than others and such like that; I know I could tweak that code to do what I want.) As it stands, there's way too many methodologies going on with the setup of options. I think it really is time for the system to be remade from the ground up and I would love to get the chance to work on something like that. So much want. Need to get hired to do this >.<

Does everyone get to vote on this though? I think a pop-up that would require everyone to click to send the next spawn early would still be better than this. Just don't let it show who hasn't clicked yet or who has clicked and just send the next spawn if everyone has clicked. No accidental griefing possible by the leader choosing too short a time, and no "OMG Captain Underpants, just click the damn button again, I want to fight now, Y U TAKE SO LONG N00B!?" if it doesn't show who hasn't clicked. If you have it just be a variable that you can set at the onset of the trial... How do you know at that time how your team will handle everything? Maybe you've teamed with some of them before, maybe not. Given how many PuGs get put together for the Respec trials, you're probably not going to know what time would be good before the trial has started.

Awesome, I'm glad to see it done. Nice job. And no worries about it taking so long. I completely understand. Good luck acquiring funds to play again soon.
Now to go turn that into a wallpaper to add to my rotation. -
Quote:And if you're using Vista, you can use the snipping tool that Red Valkyrja said, or hit Shift+PrintScreen to do what Fireheart just said how to do with XP. I don't know why they made Shift required in Vista, but they did. It's how I get my shots from the Tailor or Character Select Screen. Just have to paste them into a blank image then. I have never actually used the snipping tool though, that might actually be easier.Well, if you're using XP, when you press PrintScreen in the Tailor or Creation window, it captures the whole screen to your Clipboard. From there, you have to open an Image manipulation/generation program, like Irfanview, or Fireworks, or Photoshop, or even Paint, and Paste the captured image in. At that point, you can do whatever you like with it, or save it as a file.
Be Well!

Quote:I wish this was an option too. I did my best to hide the tie, but I'm still not entirely happy with this new costume for my DP/Elec blaster:I'm being stymied by the lack of a "Dress Shirt 2" in tights options.
And while I'm here, I'll repost the other costume I posted for Coil Jumper, my Elec/Regen Scrapper, over in the SS&FA thread:
I love his story btw. He was an opium-addicted stuntman during the Victorian age. During a stunt involving jumping through a large Jacob's Ladder, he disappeared. The audience thought he was vaporized. What really happened was that the electricity from the Jacob's ladder caused a reaction in his opium formula, similar to the way Superadine enables interdimensional travel. He ended up in modern-day Praetoria. Without access to his lab and chemicals, he had to find a new fix. So he turned to Fixadine and did whatever he could to get it, working with the Resistance when it benefited him and working with the Loyalists other times. Now he's in Primal earth. And the first mission he got involved raiding a Superadine lab; so now he's all set up with his own lab creating his own version of Fixadine. -
If you're ever looking for other nationality names... I use this site a lot: http://www.20000-names.com/
It kinda likes the pop-ups, but none of them are malicious that I've encountered and the amount of names they have with meanings is quite impressive.
Also, they have extensive meanings and etymology of many names, like:
ISABELLA. Probably an elaborated form of Spanish Isabél, itself a form of biblical Jezebel (q.v.), meaning "chaste," "unmarried," or "oath of Baal." (History of Christian Names, Yonge, 1884). Usage: America, Arthurian legend, England, Germany, Italy, Latin, Sicily.
... The royal name thus introduced became popular among the crown vassals, and Isabelle of Angouleme, betrothed to Hugues de Lusignan, but married to King John, brought Isabel to England, whence her daughter, the wife of Friedrich II., conveyed Isabella to Germany and Sicily. (Ibid., Yonge, 1884)
Meliadus was king of Leonois, or Lionesse, a country famous in the annals of romance, which adjoined the kingdom of Cornwall, but has now disappeared from the map, having been, it is said, overwhelmed by the ocean. Meliadus was married to Isabella, sister of Mark, king of Cornwall... (Age of Chivalry, Bulfinch, 1884)
ISABEL, ISABELLA. According to some this name is the same as Jezebel, which Tregelles thinks may mean "without cohabitation," i.e. αλοχος, Plat. p. 249 B, chaste, modest; and he compares it with Agnes. Bailey says "Isabella, q.d. Eliza Bella, handsome Elizabether;" but Isabella is rather from Isabél, the Spanish rendering of Elizabeth. A correspondent of N. Q. 4th S. iii. 516, says he has written proofs that one and the same person, the celebrated Isabella Clara Eugenia, daughter of Philip II., whilst she signed "Isabel, Assabel," had coins and medals struck with "Albert and Elisabet," and diplomatic seals with "Isabella, D. G. HISPAN. INFANS." The nicknames are Nib and Nibbie." (Prænomina, Charnock, 1882)
