Quote:Hmpf, I didnt know stalker AS wont do damage if you lose LoS. Thanks for that golden tidbit. Also, learn to LOS when you do ground or hiber. Stalker AS has a few second activation time, if you can break their line of sight during that interruptible period, their power will activate for them but no damage will be applied. Near the Vill base in RV is a great example there are those three different levels to fight on past the Mexican place. As you attack jumping from one to another will break the line of sight from the previous one and keep you from getting AS'ed.

I have 1000's of hours in PvP, whether or not you choose to listen to the advice im giving is your choice.
Not goin to the pvp forums where the regular pvp'ers post cuz its "snarky" wont help you either.
But you seem to know what your doin so glhf. -
First, go to the pvp boards.
Second, avoid pvp, its retarded now after I13. Seriously.
Everything the devs hoped to accomplish with the new ruleset had the opposite effect.
Of the builds you listed, I lol'd at all of them. There is NO room for concept in pvp. If you wanna be competitive and you wanna play a scrapper its fire/rgn or nothing. And even still its melolee.
Blasters its either fire or psi/em. Being /dev WILL get you killed.
Defenders low health total is their biggest drawback, in addition to their anemic damage.
I havent bothered to catch up to the new post-I13 pvp and dont care to start now. I can still do "decent" with some of my old toons. But if i wanna pvp, I get my fix in other games now. But heh, you might love it.
If you are still inclined to get involved, role a VEAT. With side switching on the horizon; and im not 100% sure of the exact distance, widow/forts perception will enable you to see stalkers from 100 ft out. They still will have DR'd defense and be pretty squishie, but thats the direction Id go. YMMV.
Again, Id go to the pvp boards for more solid/intelligent/better advice though. -
Quote:You pay your monthly dues just like I do. So dont let me tell you how to have fun or play the game.If it's within a right to make any type of character they choose, then why is their a thread complaining about the types of characters people make - and more importantly, why is it only one type of character being brought into question ??
That said, the title of the thread is "No, we don't need a healer". And again there is no healer AT. This kinda jargon is bad for this game and encourages new players to play the stupid aura-spammin-waste-of-a-spot team members I dread.
I play empathy, and using CM along with fortitude GREATLY decreases the need for heals.
Ive gone whole play sessions not healing AT ALL.
The sets a buffing set, Its got 3 heals outta 9 powers.
If the thread was "No, we dont need an empath!", id say, emps are just as important as any other DEFENDER.
And as a side note. People are sayin they focus on the empathy primary and have 2 blasts. What pray tell are your other power choices if your not selecting blasts? Did you take the medicine pool so you can have 4 heals and 2 rezzes? Let me guess, you took stimulate as well. You know what CM is? Do you understand what it does?
/end rant. -
Maybe im naive but theft of essence +end proc, knock protection IO's, kinetic combat IO's (if your not using smashing haymakers to build the survivability of kat/da up) are all VERY expensive IO's.
Ive never looked at yours or Werners sword/da builds in great detail but I think I have an overall grasp of how you all are building them.
My own ma/da IO build is quite expensive (maybe 500 mil) and that was done a looong time ago and prices have only risen in comparision since then.
Maybe I should check out that build on the cheap your suggesting for my own kat/da im working up (lvl 41 now, soo close to PP and hopefully managable end consumption).
Got a link Claws? -
Quote:This kinda response bothers me.In all honesty, this type of thread bothers me. I have a couple Defenders/Healers, and I enjoy playing them. It's fine if you dont look for one, or feel the need for one - but why start a thread basically calling them useless ?? The same can be said for every last character...
Please, tell me how you unlocked this "healer" AT. Is it a secret epic unlocked at lvl 60?
Next thing we know people are gonna start asking what the best "warrior" class is. -
I think dark armors biggest weakness is endurance consumption. Getting that under control will greatly eleviate alot of DA's percieved weaknesses. Heroside, physical perfection is in both tank and scrap epics. Id stay away from brutes because of this.
Id suggest a da/stone tank for aoe stun capabilities
Or a dm/da anything to help with endurance issues
If unlimited budget builds are allowed id say a sword/da scrap. -
Of the choices you gave...
Dm/invuln for uber survivability
Fire/invuln for everyday "fun" scrappin. -
Quote:Oh dont get me wrong, im not in favor of this in any way-shape-or form. And I've read dev comments as well sayin it wont happen. How about a link to my copypasta about why full respecs are bad, with Castle's commentary farther down?
I just dont like people quoting themselves sayin its not gonna happen and then take the attitude that if you dont believe them then YOUR wrong. So I asked for proof. You provided it M_B I was commenting on J_S to prove himself. -
MoG has been changed to a relatively quick recharging +defense power.
Addin ninja blade and DA would greatly increase your survivability against single hard targets like AVs. Addin +defense to regen's survivability is the way you'd wanna go.
Dm/rgn is gonna be heals heals and more heals. -
Patrol XP was added to encourage players to make alternate characters. Not to help with debt.
-
Awesome ideas. Id definitly roll the astronomy buff set.

Quote:Ya know, the more I think about playing through the game the first time, I think a blaster might be a better pick than a scrapper.I'd recommend a Blaster as a first character.
Blasters are fun right out of the box. They peak early and start to have problems much later on, like in the 30s and 40s, as mezzing enemies become more common. But they're great to play while you're figuring out the basics of the game in the lower levels. You don't need to chase enemies around and get some flashy special effects to boot.
Scrappers can feel a bit weak at first in comparison, but really hit their stride in the early 20s, and become killing machines both solo and on teams.
Tankers and Controllers can both be a real drag to solo in the early levels because they output less damage for the same endurance. You're safe, but run out of steam easily.
Defenders are a mixed bag - their primaries have much more diverse effects than any other archetype.
I played Blasters first. When I switched to a scrappers I really appreciated the extra toughness and surviability, whereas a Scrapper to Blaster switch would be a lot rougher.
I then branched out to Controllers and Defenders, and by then I'd got the hang of the game to the extent that it didn't take forever to get to level 20.
And whoever you play, turn off Sprint while you're fighting, to save endurance.
Damage being almost equal, your solo speed will basically stay the same.
Playin a blaster the first time through though will teach you more about the sublities of this game better than a scrapper.
You'll learn how certain mobs will "mez" a "squishie", where-as a scrapper doesnt really care whos attackin them because they generally are very durable characters.
Id say OP if you want an easy fun ride without too much worry about the nuances of CoH, roll a scrapper.
If you wanna learn more of the finer details of CoH roll a blaster.
As to which powerset combo to roll...
I can honestly say ANY combination of scrapper powersets will work
ma/sr
kat/wp
dm/rgn.
You cant go wrong really with anything scrapper wise.
Blasters...
They're not my forte, Id rather not comment on a decent solo blaster combo.
But regardless of what you choose.
Welcome to City of Heros, hope you have a nice stay. -
Prove it.
Post a Link to a red name sayin no to AT respecification.
Until then your just makin yourself look bad. -
This build is solid, I wouldnt worry too much about improving it at this level.
Maybe respec'n stamina out now that you have transference,
But its pretty much how id build a kin/elec.
I might drop accrobatics for another attack but its not a BAD build by any stretch of the imagination.
Play it and have fun. Thats about the best advice I can give you. -
Quote:This is all YOU sayin no. What point does that prove?
Dont believe your own hype. -
Quote:Healz are overrated. This toon is a buffer, and has AWESOME buffs.Empathy by far provides the most heals. The Aura combined with heal other allow you to keep the team healed and provide even better healing to anyone that is in trouble with Heal Other. Frankly I skip Absorb Pain.. 1) you already have an outstand solo heal in Heal Others that recovers very quickly and 2) I tend to avoid any power that takes away from MY hitpoints to do anything. Basically you can't heal anyone if you wind up face down on the floor because you died after using it and then got attacked. You have a good Rez and some pretty good buff. One nice thing is two of those are also aura so they will benefit you as well as the members of your team.
Quote:Thermal has good heals and adds some great buff. It has only one debuff but Melt Armor is outstanding. The one drawback is that while Empathy also has 2 buffs (auras that can actually help you. Thermal has graet buffs but the only person on the team you can't buff is YOU. One added advatage of Themal is its Rez which brings back your fallen team mate and causes an explosion damaging anything around them.
Quote:Dark has a good heal and Rez but also has a huge advantage in that both of them provide added avtanges. your heal will debuff an enemy while your rez slows and disorients. Many players, myself included, that use dark actually use the REZ more for that then they do actually rezzing a team mate. Hey if its not available when a team mate falls that's why they make Awake inspiratioins. No buffs with this set but it the slows, disorients and debuffs more than make up for it. One small disadvantage is that your rez, if using to rez a teammate, requires an enemy to activate or it simply doesn't function.
Quote:Kin has a good heal but no Rez which is not a huge issues considering the other advantages that KIN provides. The one drawback to the heal is your teammates have to be close to you for it to work and it does require an enemy to work. This can mean you may need to move into Melee range if you want to heal a tank or scrapper in trouble and find yourself taking added damage. The huge advantage with Kin is SB along with the powers that buff you. Everyone can attack and recover faster so they can do a lot more damage.
Quote:Rad has a good heal and rez and perhaps the best debuffs in game. My Rad/Rad Defender picked the badge title GIANT KILLER based solely on the fact that she has taken on and helped defeat ever single GM in game and most of the AVs. You also get Accelerate Metabolism which works similar to Speed Boost from the Kin powerset in that it makes your teammate quicker and they heal, recover end, etc faster until it wears off. The advantage here is AM is an aura so it doesn't just buff your teammate it buffs you as well.
Quote:If you take EMP do NOT skip your later powers. Fortitude and Clear Mind will become your go to power in the later game. CM recovers very quickly and doesn't require much more than a single Recharge Reduction to enable you to quickly protect the entire team. Fort is slower and needs 1-2 Recharges to get it down to being available about every 30 seconds. It does buff the individual you use it on adding to their defense and increasing their accuracy.
CM is mez protection/+perc, it goes on def/troller/blaster/khelds. Puttin this on tanks/scraps is reduntant. They already have it (well ok, against AV ghost widow and fighting arachnos you'd MAYBE put it on scraps/tanks). Fortitude should be 6 slotted with 3 def/3 recharge. Puttin this buff on players will GREATLY elimate your NEED to healz. It does +acc/damage/defense. Letting this power sit in your tray unused is criminal. Good emps can keep this up on 3-4 players.
Quote:Whatever you decide on do not think of yourself solely as a "healer". By the later game most players defense is strong enough that no one cares if they have a HEALOR along or not. Take your attacks from your secondary and enhance them.. My phylosphy with my EMP always was a good offense is the best defense. I may not do as much damage as a Scrapper or a Blaster.. heck in some cases not even as much as a Controller but ANY damage is good damage and if everything in front of us is on the ground and not moving the need to heal has ended. I like to call that preventative medicine LOL -
stalker hide is best invis in game.
followed by superior invis. -
Ive played ALOT of scrapper combos.
Fire/rgn might be the squishiest ive played yet. But then again this toon is only 36ish so shes not completely built yet. Ive yet to take stamina and havent had endurance worries at all. And I do mean "no endurance worries". That might save you a power pick. But if your wife is gonna fight with fly on, you might need stamina. Other than that. Nothing terribly outta line. I forget if reconstruction is available at lvl 4 (maybe thats QR), its your main form of mitigation id grab that asap.
Add to that a troller that isnt so much a "support" toon but rather a "I can solo anything in this game", and it looks like you got yourself a fun combo!!!
No luck on swappin villainside to heroside influence/infamy. So your stuck with zero coinage. -
Isnt cloak of darkness perfect for a ghost concept? color white?
That was my first guess.
Claws/dark armor.
I always think of ghosts as wispy smokey things. obscure to the sight. Idk.
cloakin device from blasters /dev would still let you see details of character costume. But youd be stuck with /dev and as a ghost...no luck there.
Warshade's inky aspect is the same thing. And they get teleport/recall friend without spending a powerpool pick on it. -
They said the same thing about power customization but look what we can do now.
I agree that its a bad idea though.
Lets pretend.
I have a fire/shield scrap. I wanna respec him into a shield/fire tank. Why wouldnt I just reroll the character into a tank first?
Is it because a player doesnt want to play 50 lvls again? Or REALLY likes a certain name and wants to play that name on a different AT?
Ive seen all these posts about AT respec I just dont understand what the appeal would be.
But to each their own. -
Quote:You got it wrong with what i assume you mean as /dark armor and ma/Forget about the whole stun stacking thing with dark melee. It looks cool, but team with a half-decent troller and you don't need to focus on that. A scrapper's job is many, but damage is one of the primary roles, so just decide if you want to be a single target specialist or an AOE nightmare and go from there.
WP is always a good choice too for an all around balanced toon, but I just wanted a bit more AOE, so I had to go shield and that shield AOE is da shiznut son.
Its a helluva lot of work to get the build playable, its an extreme endo *****. But it shouldnt be overlooked either.
Death shrouds pbaoe damage helps with ma/ single target focus alot.
Most of the time, buy the time ive managed to defeat a boss, DS has killed the minions and almost all of the Lt's. Dragon tail to finish up the left overs.
And oppressive gloom's pbaoe stun is GREAT when used in conjunction with trollers aoe stuns.
Have the /da run in with OG runnin and let the troller follow up with their aoe stun.
And, while not all trollers have stuns most do. I think ice, ill, and mind trollers are the only ones without.
But I like being the only ma/da toon ive ever seen. So maybe you shouldnt run up this combo.
Edit...
Shield Charge is DEFINATELY getting changed, a red name has spoken on the matter. The only question is WHEN itll get its damage reduced.
