  1. Starsman : How would you propose simulating the attack chain of a Dark/Regen Scrapper? What accommodations would you make to ensure that, eg, Arcanatime was being properly respected, and that the proper attack chain was used at 300% haste vs 100% haste? Would IOs be an option?

Hmm. Good point. CoH2 : Teeth slider.

(I guess we'd need two, one for quantity -- which would affect width -- and the other for height.)

I'm grateful for Zwillinger, Black Pebble, Freitag, and Positron. I'm grateful for Melissa Bianco and all the other developers and former employees of Paragon Studios, redname posts or no. I'm grateful for TonyV, Leandro, Dark_Respite, Arcanaville, and probably even Golden_Girl. I'm grateful for you and every other person still posting here, every person who logs into the game this month, and everyone who +1s, retweets, or "likes" CoH-related posts in social media. I'm grateful to have a working computer, friends and family who love me, and a job (sometimes). I'm grateful I am not in an institution; I'm grateful for my mind, fitful as it may be. I'm grateful for the basic necessities of life.

Most of all, though, I'm grateful for a sense of humor. With it, I can bear the loss of any of those, and without it, none would have real meaning to me.
  4. I prefer to think of us as having high standards and an encouraging, you-can-do-it attitude.
  5. Yeah. There's no way they could enforce US laws on some Chinese company like Cryptic Studios. What's a name like that supposed to mean, anyway?

This is the CoH community, dammit. We'll die as we lived.

Edit : Also, I'm flabbergasted that that's your immediate response to Leandro's pwnage.
  7. I've been playing my planned DB/Bio Brute on Test. It's pretty sweet. I'm kind of abusing the free inspirations and amplifiers, but hey, it's a blowout.

On live, I had a Dark/Staff Tanker and a Beam Rifle/Rad Corruptor I was working hard on. I was juuust starting the Tanker's proper build... I tend (personal preference) not to watch Test too carefully, but I was guessing he'd be mitigating close to 98% of all damage post i-24, fully decked out (and definitely ~99% S/L/N, since I could do that on Live already). The Corruptor was for hard target softening and barring some (eventually solvable) endurance issues quite good at that.

I was also playing two pretty fun Defender builds on the side. The first was a very very clicky Empathy/Dual Pistols. I was going for perma-Hasten and Soul Mastery Power Boost so I could (with a lot of work) perpetually defense-softcap the team. It also had a good amount of hard control and a lot of options.

The second was a much more strategic Forcefields/Dark, going for Mace Mastery. The combination is so strong I was contemplating playing this character with only SOs (it seemed unnecessarily burdensome, and besides, he's more fun with procs).

Everything but the test Brute is on hold because I want to have at least one more level 50 Scrapper before the end, and because my priority above even that is playing with a friend of mine who started around the same time I did.
  8. I'm a bit bored of 'high fantasy' and anything with vampires. I don't mind urban fantasy, but the cosmopolitan-ness of City of Heroes does it one better. We get the 'urban wizards,' but also aliens, giant robots, and tormented mutants.

(I had hoped that we would one day get a Midnighter EAT. And a Giant Robot one.)

TSW... I like it. It has a way to go but I'm keeping myself optimistic. I keep meaning to try STO, too, but somebody told me that ground combat has melee units (even while their shirts are intact) and that really bothers me as a Star Trek fan.
  9. Oh, sweet armors.

I kind of got a big-chested, blocky, silvery feel from the description in the story (it looks 'obsolete' but "sexy"). I wasn't sure if it would have a full helmet or a headset-with-visor/HUD... I was imagining the latter.
  10. Eh. "un-Y-able by X" parses literally for any Y with certain Xes.

And pretty much everything Arcana said.

    As usual.

    Sigh.

Edit : #$%#, I called her Arcana? Too many threads. This is going to be a rough couple months.

    Not Goodbye

We overlook Canny's small typos out of fear she'll prove the English language wrong.
  12. I'm actually really curious what that image is. I spent like, two minutes solid trying to find it on the host site.
  13. Well. Zwill told you the secrets of Community Management; I'm an expert troll from way back.

The reason my post count is so low for the time I've been here is, frankly, because I like you guys.

So fwiw, here's the guide to trolling (the generic "you" here being the troll):
    • It's not about rising out of the mud; it's about bringing them down there with you.
    • You win every time they reply. Your e...status... is measured by thread length.
    • There is nothing more satisfying than using someone's own words against them.
    • Nobody is any more right than you are; it's all relative. Except that lots of people are more wrong, because they are stupid.
    • The best targets are busybodies -- people who get involved for no real reason. They're basically trollbabies, and taking their candy is sweet.

There's a bit more. You can, in fact, make trolls self-destruct: Don't. Trolling other trolls will get you laughs and community kudos, but it basically relies on you being able to roll in the mud and come out clean. It's not a good bet. (It's also, I imagine, part of why Black Pebble has long been so silent.)

I didn't like the language of the "Save CoH" petition, since I also don't think NCSoft is just going to turn around and go, "loloops! What a crazy typo! We meant to say we were HIRING MORE PEOPLE!" I signed it anyway -- because I can at least wish for that, but more importantly because the numerical show of solidarity is important for any of the other possibilities that might give City of Heroes another chance.

Oh, *that's* what those are. I knew they were too small to be anything else.
  16. I never *did* get around to making that mastermind -- "Squeak Squeak Boom."
  17. Call to Action : Spandex and Twine.

    Possibly coming mid-November.
  18. What were the bullets credited as? They were the real stars.
  19. All you really need is a third point to triangulate from, and a projectile that ignores intervening matter.

Or... hmm. Can you do that thing Angelina Jolie could do in the movie about the kid who shot pigs?
  20. It's probably fair use. You are reproducing a small portion of the game for public news with no financial gain to yourself.

  21. Hey, you can export the Singularity pet with demorecord, yeah?

Oh, but for the record, here's a (very, very) quick mock-up of how I think Pohsyb might've looked:

Think of it like being in a serene and ethereal vista, as lost in your own mind as you are in the breathtaking surroundings, and then suddenly you're staked to the ground and eaten by a swarm of insects in a matter of seconds.

Repeat until you learn fear, then repeat until you have become numb to it and simply accept that the presence of another living soul anywhere that you can see means swift death.

    That's nullsec.

(Lowsec is more complicated... it's more like taking the wrong turn on your way home from work, causing your car to explode.)
