Why Goodbye threads now?
Shock. People are still in shock, including the devs.
The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.
What Jack said. Also some players may feel they is no longer a point to coming to the forums or even logging in any longer so they want to say their peace now and be out.
Example: If a player is going to school and the game closing was announced on 8/30 (beginning of school year) I can fully see them saying "what's the point?" and hang it up now to focus on schoolwork etc.
Who do I have to *&^% around here to get more Targeted AoE recipes added?
Arc Name: Tsoo In Love
Arc ID: 413575
Thanks for the heads up on the guidelines. If and when I make my goodbye thread I'll be sure to check your handy dandy rulebook. I'd hate to make people feel weird and cast aside because I didn't follow the rulebook. I'll just wait for your cue.

What does it matter in any case?
People can say goodbye when and how they choose. I don't see why their choices are a concern to others.
Some of us said good bye quickly for a few reasons. Here are some of them:
1. Not sure how long forum will be up
2. Not sure how long players will stick around for a sinking ship (not that we don't hope it is saved)
3. Not sure how long the Paragon team will be around and we want to express our gratitude.
I can understand not wanting to say good-bye. No one wants to say it, but criticizing others for saying it, isn't really fair to those people.
If I thought the real reason you posted this was to learn why, then you'd be a lot less intelligent than I expected.
I know, you think you're being clever and witty and trollish by poking fun of things. However, a few things you've missed are 1) the obvious reasons to post goodbyes now instead of later (oops, kinda ruins your thread there) 2) that many of us here truly like each other and enjoy this friendly community and that 3) your attempts at attention and humor only reveal some sad truths about you.
I hope you break out of such ignorant molds, truly.
Things are so much better together than divided.
Still, feel free to stick around and have some hugs.
and round up everyone that knows more than they do"-Dylan

I haven't posted a goodbye thread personally, and I never will, but I can see why others would want to.
I'm one of the people who hasn't seen the point in logging in and playing since the announcement.
I tried. I told myself that I was "Going to finally get my Peacebringer to 50 after having him for over 5 years, damnit!" but that lasted all of 2 levels before it just struck me as not even being worth it.
I still check the forums mostly because it's part of my daily routine, even on days that I wouldn't normally have played the game. I spend a lot less time here as well, though.
Eventually, much sooner that I'd have hoped, I'll just fade away completely. I've simply never been one for fanfare.

A few reasons:
1. We don't know how long the forums will be here. This goes double for the devs who are (for the most part) no longer employed by NCSoft and as such could lose access to their redname accounts at any time (plus due to legal things they will probably be unable to post it after they get a new job).
2. We don't know how long the game will be here. While people have said Nov 31st there's absolutely no guarantee that it will continue even that long. For all we know NCSoft could turn off the servers tomorrow.
3. People are starting to move on. Yes there is an effort to save the game and yes some people are determined to eke out every minute of play that they can but for a lot of other people the desire to play is gone. Losing the game is sad and keeping playing it stretches out the grief. It's better to make a clean break, I know I'm not playing anymore, I just hang out on the forums from habit.
Because, as it currently stands, the game is over, and the staff has been sacked. If it were my last day, I'd have written one too. If divine intervention reverses the course, it's not like a "goodbye post" is a definitive article. Best to put one up while a person knows her or she can.

Why are you non devs/mods/rednames/celebs making goodbye threads now?
I mean sure the moment is sincere, you get your goodbyes going, you get some of your friends posting in there but then you get this awkward feeling. Know what it is? Time. You realize you made a thread right after the announcement of a game shutting down and still have until November 30th until this whole thing is gone.
What does that mean?
Empty space, and forgotten threads. No one will remember, not in bulk anyhow, your post from September when November comes. Not unless they are die hard fans of your work. So again, why now?
Express your sentiments and adios when its proper, like maybe the second week in the month of; or even a week ahead. You won't have that weird look five days down the road when someone is gazing at your post going, '' Well.. I said my goodbyes, I added the person to whatever.. so.. what do I talk about now? '' Or the thread just keeps getting pushed further and further back even tho you check it daily. That's right, I know you do.
For the last time, I just have to ask..
Why?
