As the thread title says, please change the forum background page.

If this game is going to end shortly, surely it would only be right that we have established and iconic characters in the background page.

I have zero affinity with either of the NPC's currently occupying that space, and I guess that may the same for many others.

Let's see a return to more suitably iconic characters, such as Statesman, BaB, Synapse etc

I miss the Statesman and Recluse one, tbh

As much as I understand what and why you're asking for this, unfortunately this would require engaging the Seattle web team which, at this point, is highly unlikely.

Sorry .

AdBlock is your friend here.

I went months without visiting the forums because of the offensive background that they're now stuck with in perpetuity. I don't buy comics in which the art sucks, and I don't see any reason to subject myself to crappy art in CoH, either.

I wouldn't be posting now, if it weren't for the extenuating circumstances of the game ending.

So I went out, downloaded AdBlock for free, and tuned it to cut out the background. This is not quite as good a solution as the customized backgrounds some people have set up, but it's good enough for me to tolerate coming back and saying goodbye to people here.

It's unfortunate that the team gets saddled with this mistake as they ride off into the sunset. But I expect it's a lesson that'll stick with them in future games: Don't tolerate or promote bad art- you may get stuck with it.

Statesmonkey Sez: Lighten up! It's a game, for Lincoln's sake!
Also: Six years of casual play begins to look an awful lot like one year of hardcore play.

same here. It'd be nice if we could see it again for one last hurrah.

And whats wrong with engaging the Seattle Web team? Are they fussy about time codes and have no sense of: "aww... sucks your game got canceled we'll change the background for you for old times sake?"

I use adblock a lot, but usually due to having a limited connection on my laptop when I am traveling or at work.

Heck, it took them a week to neuter the CoH homepage and how many times did they announce forum maintenance only to cancel it because something came up?

On a related note and something I've been meaning to ask: Who are the two NPCs? Scary Bear Man and Pink Armless Girl? (Though I see on closer examination she does in fact have a right arm...)

Shadow Hunter and Penelope Yin.

Shadow Hunter is the Praetorian version of Woodsman, and is met in Night Ward (you might be able to fight him in it- I didn't try to insult him ), as well as some of the late game Portal missions.

Penelope Yin is met in Faultline as a young girl, and again later when she's kidnapped as part of the LGTF (still young). She's now (when older) part of the Freedom Phalanx and gives out the Penelope Yin Task Force, and in the LRSF and a few other places in her older form.

The previous background is here: http://i.imgur.com/bDGz2.jpg

If you have access to the web server the forums are on (via FTP), then you can just overwrite styles/CoH/misc/background.jpg and you're done.

If not, anyone who has access to the vBulletin admin control panel should be able to do it. The steps are:

- Admin panel
- Themes and layout
- Modify themes
- You should see a theme called "Hero"; click "Edit this theme's stylesheets."
- There should be an index.css, which is imported to all the themes.

Now, ideally, you'd change the CSS, but I believe the bit of code you need is in a PHP file instead of a CSS file (no idea why the web team would do it like that, but that's what they did). If you find this bit:

/**
* vBulletin 3.8.7 CSS
* Style: 'Hero'; Style ID: 3
*/
body
{
background: #03060B url(styles/CoH/misc/background.jpg) no-repeat top center;

Then you can just change that line to:

background: #03060B url(http://i.imgur.com/bDGz2.jpg) no-repeat top center;

And you're done. But, if that bit isn't there, you can just add the following line a the top of index.css, and it should have the same effect:

body { background: #03060B url(http://i.imgur.com/bDGz2.jpg) no-repeat top center !important; }

The !important makes it override the other declaration.

Guys ... don't you think they're going through enough right now, just trying to keep up with doing the work of an entire team themselves? Really? is a background -that- much of a priority right now? Can we cut them some slack?

This is the CoH community, dammit. We'll die as we lived.

Edit : Also, I'm flabbergasted that that's your immediate response to Leandro's pwnage.

But they -can't- ... they're effectively cut off from the resources they once had. They've said it time and time again how there's too much to keep up on and they're doing their absolute best. And they're doing their best knowing that in less than 3 months, they won't have anything to show for it but a severance package.

Heck, shouldn't we at least count ourselves lucky that we still have the game this far? NC could've said "shut it all down now" on that Friday morning. Can we be grateful for -something- here?

I'm grateful for Zwillinger, Black Pebble, Freitag, and Positron. I'm grateful for Melissa Bianco and all the other developers and former employees of Paragon Studios, redname posts or no. I'm grateful for TonyV, Leandro, Dark_Respite, Arcanaville, and probably even Golden_Girl. I'm grateful for you and every other person still posting here, every person who logs into the game this month, and everyone who +1s, retweets, or "likes" CoH-related posts in social media. I'm grateful to have a working computer, friends and family who love me, and a job (sometimes). I'm grateful I am not in an institution; I'm grateful for my mind, fitful as it may be. I'm grateful for the basic necessities of life.

Most of all, though, I'm grateful for a sense of humor. With it, I can bear the loss of any of those, and without it, none would have real meaning to me.

I get what you're saying. But I think you need to toughen that upper lip just a bit.

Leandro just did nearly all the heavy work right there. No one's asking for it to be done right this second, either. It's a modest request that, when a mod or rep finds time, they change up the backdrop to something more inspirational and City of Heroes-esque.

It's not a demand, nor a rage filled post. No one's been, or being, ungrateful here. It's just a simple request.
