  1. Maybe we can compromise, and call it VEEEP!
  2. The joke's on us...those two are actually Praetorian spies, keeping track of all the Incarnates queuing up for Trials. Their banter back and forth is actually coded messages being transmitted back to Emperor Cole.
  3. Also:

Dev sitting too far away from the microphone.
Dev starts to give an answer before Zwill can read the question.
"We're not talking about [controversial topic that's getting spammed in the chatbox] today."
    "Anyways..."
Canada jokes (if War Witch is present)

By this logic, all the people saying "We want more trials, you solo players can suck it" are likewise being dismissive and combative, correct?
  5. Story Arcs - This is what I do the most.
Scanner/Newspaper/Tips/AE/Flashbacks - Do them occasionally for variety, or if I happen to need merits/tickets/whatever.
Mayhems - *Love* going around blowing stuff up. That never gets old.
Zone Events/Giant Monsters - The best kind of teaming, short and sweet.
Costumes - Always make a point to unlock all the costume slots, love messing around in the costume creator.
Badging - Went through a period where I was going after them pretty intently, but I kind of burnt myself out. Still usually go after the easy ones like Exploration.

Don't care for Trials, TFs, or PvP.
  6. I'm another one who mostly solos. I don't mind teaming up for quick stuff like Rikti invasions or stomping a Giant Monster. And if I see someone on the channels looking for help with a boss or something, I'll pitch in just to be a good neighbor. Otherwise, I'd rather do my own thing, where I can control the pace and the difficulty. If there was a non-MMO superhero game with the same customizability, depth, and replay value, I'd be all over it. Arkham Asylum was great, but I blew through it in a week.

I ran BAF and Lambda enough to get one character fully slotted out with Tier 4s, mostly out of stubbornness ("I've come this far...!"). But it wasn't much fun, and I'm not planning on doing any more. If I ever do, it'll just be to unlock costume pieces. I'm fine with the Incarnate system being there for people who like that sort of thing. But to me it's like they took all my least favorite aspects of the main game, and rolled them all up into one Big Ball of Suck.
  7. Sis and BABs are just reacting to the sudden influx of F2P players. "My god...I've never seen so many bad imitations of Wolverine and Naruto in my life!"

I definitely like the idea of using comics pages for an introduction. What could be more natural for a comic book game?

Will you be able to tell whether someone is Free, Premium, or VIP just by looking at them?
  9. If it is some program running an update, it must be doing it all day long...this slowdown happens over and over again, no matter what time of day I'm playing.

  11. I've been having an issue for a while where the game will suddenly drop down to single-digit fps, stay that way for a couple of minutes, then go back to normal. It doesn't seem to be connected to what I'm doing in-game...it happens whether I'm in the middle of a Mothership raid or just standing around by myself inside a mission. Keeping my graphics settings low makes the slowdowns less severe, but still very noticeable. My Netgraph stays green throughout, so I'm assuming it's something to do with my machine, rather than my internet connection.

  12. The problem with using Achievements for evidence is that players will often do things that they don't necessarily "enjoy" in and of themselves...just because there IS an Achievement for it. I didn't hang around the Shadow Shard for ages hunting Overseers because I love poking things in the eye; I did it to unlock the nifty weapons. All this research is really telling us is that people like Achievements.
  13. I like to keep things simple, which means I play mostly melee, and sometimes blasters. I don't like playing healers or buffers (though I certainly appreciate having them around )... I wanna get in there and punch/zap the bad guys. I tried a peacebringer once, but the constant form-switching drove me nuts.

I'm leveling up a mastermind now, which isn't awful, but isn't great either. Solo, it's kind of dull, because you're just pointing and going "go get 'em". On a team, it's a hassle to keep your minions alive and upgraded while the rest of the team keeps steamrolling ahead.

Sure, but I think the whole point of Strax's mini-character arc is that he's growing beyond that view. He grumbles about his job, but he seems to enjoy it on some level, or at least takes pride in doing it well -- note how eager he was to show off his mad lactating skillz. And when he dies in battle, he admits its not as glorious as its "supposed" to be. He's not a mindless cog in the Sontaran war machine any more. He and Rory are kindred spirits: The warrior who had to become a nurse, and the nurse who's had to become a warrior. Neither of them chose their fates, but they're making the best of it. It's one of the best moments in an episode full of great moments.

He didn't say "just a nurse"...he simply said "Rory, I'm a nurse." I took it to mean, "I'm a nurse, I know how bad my injuries are, so don't B.S. me that I'm going to be fine."

Davison was awfully bland, but I have to admit his era had some great stories. Colin Baker was probably my least favorite, but it's hard to blame him with all the behind-the-scenes shenanigans that were going on at the time. I pretty much like all the others, with 3 and 4 being special favorites. Smith is great so far.

It's a subtle distinction, but I think Smith plays the Doctor's manic, childlike side much more genuinely. When Tennant was being goofy, it always felt like a put-on...as if he were deliberately playing the fool to distract his opponents or hide his true feelings (cf. Tom Baker). With Smith, it feels like that giddy quality is just the way he is (as someone else pointed out, very Troughton-like).

Also, Smith is ugly, Tennant was not...
I wouldn't call him ugly, but I'd say his slightly unconventional looks are a point in his favor. A "pretty" Doctor just feels wrong to me. He's supposed to be an oddball, visually as well as in personality.
  17. Poking around Wikipedia turned up various queens and princesses:
    Victoria
    Beatrice or Beatrix
    Maria
    Isabella
    Anna or Anne
    Eleanor
    Margaret
    Sophia
    Amelia
    Helene or Helena

Yup, I saw Cole in Atlas Park. He was wearing his old Tyrant costume, rather than the white military uniform. I'm pretty sure he was flagged as unkillable, but my powers were lagging so much it was hard to tell.
  19. Thanks for posting this! The devs were obviously having fun playing their roles.

It's weird...I was seeing all of Zwillinger's comments, and the Praetorian bad guys' banter, but I don't remember seeing any of War Witch's, or the NCSoft_GoodEvil announcements. They were all using the Admin channel, right? Maybe it was just scrolling by too fast.
  20. I've got a couple of old characters on Freedom, so I'll make a good faith attempt to participate. If they've actually somehow improved the server enough to keep this from being a single-digit-fps slideshow, I'll be (pleasantly) flabbergasted.
  21. Inf is easy to come by, and sometimes I don't feel like going to the time and trouble to craft something. Yes, that means I end up paying more than I "have" to, but it's only play money, and there's plenty more where that came from.
  22. /signed x1000. It's seriously annoying, especially on my toon that has Field Crafter.

I assume the main reason people want to flashback the Safeguards/Mayhems is to get the exploration badges. So maybe they can do like they did with Isolator & Jail Bird: make an Ouro arc that lets us get just those badges, but not any of the other awards associated with the bank missions.
  24. The main difference is that fantasy stories tend to have a beginning, middle, and end, whereas superhero comics are ongoing. Having a mortal hero pull off an unlikely victory against a godlike foe ONCE is one thing. Frodo eked out a win against Sauron by the skin of his teeth, and then sailed off into the sunset. Batman does it every other month. He's punked Darkseid a half-dozen times already, plus multiple victories against Superman and countless other foes who were way out of his league. After a while, it starts to strain credibility. Not to mention how silly it looks when he then turns around and struggles to beat mooks like the Riddler or the Penguin.
