  1. So they're just re-doing the first 2 seasons? Lame.

I have to admit that I had interest in this show but never watched it.
This is a shame. It is currently the best show on TV, bar none. It took them about half a season to find their feet, but once they did... wow. And when the incredible Ben Edlund came on board and Sera Gamble hit her stride, it really took off. The season finale of season 5 was easily one of the best episodes of television I've seen, but it only carries that weight if you've seen the rest of the show. But tying together the concept of family obligation, the apocalypse, war between Heaven and Hell and having the audacious courage to carve out your own path in life is quite a feat. And to have it all hinge on a '67 Chevy is just unexpected brilliance.
  2. Effects! Grimace! Effects! Shock! Effects! Scowl! Effects! Effects! Effectseffectseffects... grr.

The best news is there is a whole new generation of British actors who can now be linked to Kevin Bacon.

I wouldn't mind them being kept around in background roles with occasional appearances as their skill sets are required. But, I would prefer seeing them return to more of the original format of the show.

Or, just give us more Guerrero. I'd watch a show about that crazy ******* anytime.
Everything you said, but especially that last line. Guerrero is, hands down, the single coolest character to come along on TV in years.

Human Target is on the chopping block, but the interesting news is that despite it being moved to Friday at the last minute because of the President's speech, it pulled a larger audience than either The Good Guys or Dollhouse ever did. So maybe they'll keep it around for another season and move it to Friday nights.
  4. Customizable MM henchmen would be awesome. And combined with the animal pack... sweet! You can be King of Beasts with your pride of lions, or alpha male with your wolf pack or top cow in your herd or I can re-roll my Animal Trainer so she can have one of each.

    It does need work.

I can see that this thingamajig probably won't be too much hassle on Virtue and Freedom and maybe even Infinity, but on low-pop servers it's not going to be of much benefit if there has to be a minimum number of players to start whatever these new trials are. Too bad they can't just fill the trials with computer-run pets or doppelgangers. I'll take Fusionette on my team over having to wait for two hours for one of these things to kick off. I've been waiting for an hour now on beta server for one to start and I'm bored stiff. Pretty soon I have to leave for a night shoot, so I can't hang around all evening hoping another player decides to join.
  6. Is it just me or did it just get sex-ay in here?

It's too bad they couldn't have done so while expanding the number of options from anyone who didn't want "Tiger Head Man". Some "bestial" clothing options, weapons, etc. Prior to the pack coming out, people talked about how it'd be cool if you could use different facial parts and stuff like that. Instead we just got some disappointingly limited premolded animal heads and a couple skin patterns.
I understand what you mean. It is pretty limiting in its usefulness. I had pretty much the same feeling about the Mutant Pack. The only thing I could remotely see myself using was the glowing eyes of the new face, but that wasn't enough to persuade me into buying it as the other glowing eye options are good enough for me. Sadly, they also added the wolf tail in that pack at the last minute, keeping it out of this pack, which is its proper place. (I dislike the ragged wolf tail immensely -- I think it looks like a bag worm, which creeps me out.)

I was hoping we'd at least be able to modify the heads so as to morph them into other animals like foxes and raccoons are such. Clawed hands would've been useful beyond anthropomorphic characters, too, as they would be suitable for demons and vampires and such. As I posted earlier, a furry body would've been applicable to creating cavemen, apes and Sean Connery clones. Still, the wolf head alone is enough to get me to buy it, as it will complete my dog character. It's not perfect, but better than the current monstrous werewolf head.

There's no "doom" in Carnifax's post -- he's merely stating his opinion on the alternate animations added, nothing more. It's an opinion that I and many others agree with. That said, I have faith that if they add new animations (firing one of the main animation guys doesn't exactly bode well in this department) they will be superior to the lackluster additions in the last issue.
  9. I was hoping earlier for a claws attack power that gave us animal claws rather than the Wolverine/Ninja ones we have now. I'm still hoping that will be added for free at some point, sooner rather than later.

But paws for hands (or paw-like hands) would've been cool. Three-fingered hands that resemble bird's feet and/or dinosaur claws would be cool, too. I was really hoping for some paws/claws/hooves for feet, though, so we could have normal legs but animal feet.

The trouble is, we don't really have anything which looks tribal or barbaric. We have a lot of Tech shoulders and a lot of eeevil spikes, but we don't have animal skin shoulders or weird tribal necklaces or one of those Aztec Obsidian barbed clubs or proper dried-up skulls shoulers, or a ragged chest detail of some sort, or a decent tribal belt... We lack a lot of items to work with. When I do get about to making this one on live, I'll be perusing the Costume Redesign thread, as I'm not happy with the state of that costume quite yet.
There is that one belt that's skulls and bones, looks kind of headhunter-y.

We definitely need loincloths -- a nice plain one, one that can have patterns applied to it and a ragged one.

I'm disappointed that there isn't a "furry body" option in this pack, or at least an Animal Fur that can properly go under suits and jackets. Or a "Feather Body" for that matter. A furry/hairy body that gives a shaggy outline would be awesome for wild animal looks or even cavemen type characters.

Cow Girl from the Kitchen Sink tribe?
  14. I didn't notice much difference using the scales.
  15. Overall I quite like it. The two things I wish it had are animal feet on regular boots (not using the "Monstrous" option) and we could have glowing eyes. Of the two I'd like the first the most.

Yes, but that's "hell" and "damn", not "s**t". Better safe than sorry, and if you can say it without cursing, all the better. Also, it's often *far* funnier to see something really awesome happening -- like a roof collapsing -- and have a character undercut the moment with understatement.

    "Oh, good."

Yep, and that was the big reason I started leaning away from demorecord. I didn't want to "dumb down" an action scene just because of restrictions. I could rewrite it with demorecording in mind but then I'd never ever be happy with the end result.
Honestly, I think this is an attitude in need of adjustment. Unless you're George Lucas or James Cameron, then all filmmaking is about compromise. The number of times I wish I had two more hours of darkness or two more ADs or two more hundred grand.... Limitations force us to be more creative. There's a lot that can be done within the game engine's limitations, but it's best to recognize they are there from the jump.

    Quote:
Cursing is addressed above - but dual dialogue is actually standard and formatting is all according to current screenplay formatting spec. Some writers don't like to do dual dialog, some do, both are standard.
Allowed, yes; generally approved of, no. If used at all, it should be done sparingly. I can't even recall the last time I saw it in a screenplay. The way you were using the dialogue is basic back-and-forth, so the regular format really is preferred. Aaron Sorkin's script for The Social Network does not once use dual dialogue despite there being numerous times when people are talking at once. The scene when the Winklevoss twins and their buddy go ballistic -- two simultaneous phone calls and someone reading from the paper -- would be unreadable without it being linear.

I'm just saying that it's a nuclear bomb and should be kept in the back pocket for that exact moment when it's needed. And it almost never is.

    Quote:
The non-dialog text doesn't effect the movie rating - a lot of people use "harsher" language in there because it tends to allow you to explain something in less words. Saying "character A looks at character B - what the f***???" is far shorter to write and easier to convey than "character a looks at character b - and gives a look of wide-eyed confusion". Just a writing preference really. Convey the most amount of message in the clearest and most relatable way with the least amount of wording!
I know, those were two separate thoughts. Unless you're Quentin Tarantino, it's best not to use f-bombs in sluglines and directions. Even he didn't use it until Kill Bill.

I don't mean to be a downer, I just want to keep it realistic.

And glad to see a lot of people willing to pitch in and maybe make this possible. I know it's a massive undertaking and really just seeing what we can brainstorm or come up with, but the energy is great to see!

  18. Is Black Adam "black"? If so, he might be the oldest, as one of Shazam's (Capt. Marvel) original enemies.

I wonder if there are any pulp villains who are black. Doc Savage, the Shadow and The Spider -- among others -- are certainly proto-superheroes if not outright superheroes. They might have someone among their rogues galleries.

  20. Okay, that's not a bad writing sample. However, the main problem I see is that it's unfilmable as written. Very little of that action is supported by the game engine. It's a decent enough first draft, but it needs to be completely rewritten in order to make use of demoedit. My biggest recommendation is is to consider what you can do with the game engine and write action sequences designed around that. Look at Michelle's latest film to see what can be done to massage the existing game assets (models, emotes, etc.).

Action scenes should be written so they can be understood without sound. If you need dialogue to explain what's going on, then it hasn't been pared down to its essence.

Specific critiques about the writing: lose the f-bombs in the sluglines and text. As Gehnen noted, the game is rated T, so it's best to drop the rest of the profanity as well. I see what you're trying to do with side-by-side dialogue. Unfortunately it doesn't lend urgency but muddies the throughline. Stick with the basic format. There's a reason it's existed largely unchanged for nearly seventy-five years.

All that said, I'm willing to help on this project, too.
  21. Hard mode: Slugger, aka street-fighter, aka bar brawler. No fancy-pants martial arts moves, just straight-up knuckle-sandwiches served piping hot. There are plenty of punching, hitting and slugging animations to make a full set already. Add in the existing kick animation for flavor, the "nutcracker."

Easy mode: Staff fighting, two flavors. 1. Natural-themed martial arts type of guy using a bo staff or kendo stick. 2. Magic dude (any type of classic sorcerer type such as Gandalf) using it as a projectile weapon or a buff/debuff doohickey.
