Quote:Okay?Funny, everyone keeps saying go to the store an buy it fer 20 bucks. Yes, we all know this as no "new" expansions that are huge are ready for sale at a huge store. Yes,I got this..20 bucks new.
A generally accepted form of MMO billing.Quote:Install it, play the free trial, and now monthly costs kick in.
HOW are you paying? And from where? If you're paying $16/month, you're probably buying time cards and having to pay tax on them. Or if you're buying the time cards online, tax AND shipping. There are other, cheaper alternatives for paying for CoX.Quote:If I'm paying more than I should, why hasn't anyone caught on?
No. You've simply not been taking advantage of better billing options. Think of it as a dummy tax.Quote:So those of us paying more are not supposed to and this means we've been gettin ripped for years?
Is it NCSoft or Paragon Studio's fault you've been paying more than you should when they've made better options available to you in the interim?Quote:Sorry, but i doubt SERIOUSLY i'm getting a rebate for the next few years.
Nope.
CRY MOAR PLS!Quote:every time there's a patch DLing, i get scared, what'd they break now?
A blapper is not an AT. It's a description for a playstyle where a blaster is being played to the weak points in his power selections. Against type, as it were.Quote:I see the Blapper's excuse, but really, it's a Blapper for a reason.
No "maybe" about it.Quote:Maybe I missed the forum part about cutting the badges back
Lost them like everyone else. Save for anniversary badges (which would technically be a form of vet reward), no badge in the game should be available to one group of people and un-gettable by anyone else.Quote:but what about those that did spend weeks earning theirs?
How would that make some new hardcore badger type feel if they logged into the game and saw someone with 700+ badges and were told that about 100 of them were completely unavailable to them because the devs didn't want to give them out anymore? I lost badges too, and didn't care for it. I still agree with the thinking behind the removal of badges that weren't available anymore.
More than a few asked for it. And the final result was essentially fair to everyone. It SUCKED to be someone losing all those badges, but it was still equitable.Quote:So a few people can ask for a change, and the rest have to comply?
As with everything, it's a work in progress. In the mean-time, just play the game and stop raging over trivia.Quote:Okies, here's my asking...better balance of powers in a PvP setting, customization of pets, and easier acquisition of badges that don't require 1 mish to remain open, like Outcasts in the ONE mish Vil-side? -
Quote:Uhm. Hello? Was or was not MA DELAYED AN ISSUE because the devs were putting in things the players requested?i've done the BSF,and it's not a bad SF, if it wasn't broken. But this just goes to show that the Devs have an issue of just rushing product into gameplay just to say "oooh, look! a new toy!" like they did with the MA.
Additionally, the MA system is huge and fairly complex. Quite simply there's no way Paragon Studios could have tested every possible combination in the game before release and had it out by the end of next decade. Even the beta test pool was fairly small (though larger than the staff at Paragon by an order of magnitude or so). And THEY didn't catch everything (though they caught quite a few nasties that got squashed pre-release). And yes, some problem-children combinations were reported pre-release and made it to release. There's only so much time and developer power. And, at some point, you just have to pull the trigger.
Otherwise, you know what you've got?
Duke Nukem Forever. And I'm sure it's going to be GREAT when it releases too!

They can model how systems like the MA will be utilized in the game for years. The problem is, a few months of actually being in the real game can tell them that their model was crap. That's more or less what happened here. They expected uptake on the MA to happen one way, and it didn't happen that way. Decisively. At all.Quote:There just doesn't seem to be a lot of forethought when they do things, like release a whole issue just to compensate MA, which we all saw coming.
As such, they had to make changes to the system post-release.
But, at least they didn't do so on the day of the release...
Remember the adage about "no plan ever survives contact with the enemy".
One request among many. And you're going to rage about it?Quote:I've heard about costumes for pets fer years now, and still nothing.
There are only so many developers, time, resources, and money.
Again, your sense of entitlement has gotten away from you.
Ah. Having been caught with your foot in your mouth, you attempt to try the "that's not what I really meant" diversion to try and deflect from your bad argument.Quote:I gave up looking forward to it. The pets fer Doms and trollers, i stand corrected, but still nuthing for bot's,thugs and the like.
Again, updates in this game come in stages, and rarely do we get everything we want, all at once. If you, to paraphrase Queen "Want it all. Want it all. Want it all. WANT IT NAO!", yeah, you're doomed to be disappointed.
Ah. The "7h3 g@ym3 iz di3ying" screed.Quote:I know i know, it'll come before too long, i just hate to see the amount of subscribers drop before it's an unsupportable system.
It's not happening. Get over it.
Facts huh?Quote:As fer the cost....i gave ya'll facts already...(CoX)$16.23 vs (WoW)$10.41 vs (Eve)$14.99
From http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/faq/general.html
From the NCSoft Support SiteQuote:There are three subscription options: a month-to-month package at $14.99 per month, a three-month plan at $13.99 per month, and a six-month plan at $12.99 per month.
And, recently, they've been running deals for $143.40 for 12 months with two months free on top of that. Works out to $10.25/month.Quote:- $14.99 per month
- 3 months - $41.85 (the equivalent of $13.95 per month)
- 6 months - $77.70 (the equivalent of $12.95 per month)
- 12 months - $143.40 (the equivalent of $11.95 per month)
So Let's be complete about this
Monthly: CoX: $14.99, WoW: $14.99
So I'm unsure as to where you're getting $10 a month for WoW (links please). Maybe some sort of special deal that isn't available to everyone?
Quarterly: CoX: $13.95, WoW: $13.99
Semi-Annual: CoX: $12.95, WoW: $12.99
Yearly: CoX: $11.95, WoW: Uh. Not available?
But, as you can see from the quoted sources, the monthly pricing is identical. The quarterly and semi-annual price is slightly lower for CoX (probably because they're not rounding up to the nearest $0.99 just because they can). And the yearly option is cheaper-still. -
Quote:Here's an update for you. Carriage returns (pressing the enter key between paragraphs). The walls of text make reading your posts something akin to plowing through chest-high snow drifts. A small change like this will make your posts much more readable. Even if people disagree with the content in them.Meh, excuse me again if my "clerical skills" haven't been updated.
Well what were you expecting? It's not as if what you're posting is anything new. The basic format and premise of your original post have been done TO DEATH, resurrected, and done to death AGAIN, and again, and again...Quote:It seems that 1 person can draw the ire of a community of he or she ruffles feathers.
You get the picture right?
Just "because"? No amelioration of your stance whatsoever where people corrected your misinformation and the premises that were broken because of them?Quote:Well, keep the brushes ready, b/c really,i'm standing by what i said.
Were you not doing the internet equivalent of holding your hands over your ears and yelling "I'm not listening! LALALALALALA", I'd say that was very open-minded of you.Quote:It is refreshing to see others come out and speak their minds, even if it is against what i said, after all we are in a land where one could speak his mind.
At least some of the people here are trying to help you put your arguments in a more readable (and thus accessible) format. Would you rather people just ignore you because you simply can't be bothered to make your argument readable? Your posts are the equivalent of a month-long debate with John Moschitta.Quote:Sadly my "communication" probably wasn't clarified, and even though we can understand people who type to where only a dog can understand, forget to break off sentences with a paragraph, and the world comes crashing down.
They're not looking at it as a punishment. They feel that they didn't think through the ramifications of the type of play such badges would engender. Moreover, they feel that the type of play necessary to obtain such badges in what most people would consider a "reasonable" time-frame is an aberrant style of play.Quote:So let me ask you this then:Why cut the badges then? Why "punish" someone who did the efforts of "farming" (like no one here have EVER EVER farmed or PLed) with a higher badge count and reward those who only get to farm half of a same thing and get the same reward?
Rather than encourage this sort of aberration, they'd rather remove the poorly thought-out new badges and reduce the requirements on older badges to make them more accessible to players.
Uhm. To try and and make the game more accessible to others who don't take the coookie-cutter-of-the month build. The so-called "race to the BOTM".Quote:Why nerf Regen and slow powersets (Spines/Regen) in a PvP so the benefit goes to those who only invest in SS and 2 ranged attacks can pummel at ease?
One word. BALANCE. If this were the real world, I'd say "yeah". But it's a game. What you're talking about only would lead back to the BOTM problem.Quote:I understand that Tankers/Brutes are melee, and aren't "designed" to have ranged attacks, but what about a "Blapper"? They get the benefits of both, shouldn't melee?
City Of has had SIXTEEN expansions in five-plus years (roughly equivalent to 3 a year). Only one of which required you to pay extra to access some of the content. The rest were FREE. As in gratis. On top of that, there have been several relatively inexpensive booster packs with some neat, but optional things.Quote:WoW's had 3 expansions, factor in 40 bucks each and a low-cost monthly (yes, with taxes) and we have 4 $10 packs with a few costume changes and emotes. Still paying more more in the long run for CoX.
May The Big Man upstairs help those with a Mac....enough said there...
Oh yes. And a yearly sub to CoX is $144 for 14 months.
$144/14 = ~$10.25 per month.
Not quite sure what more you want out of them. It just sounds to me like a misplaced sense of entitlement talking. -

Gunn,
If you want a quick run through stacking and a little practice, shoot me an IM and create an alt over on Protector.
I'll be happy to give you Stacking 101 and some practice space. I have an entire workshop room already done, so you can see what I did, and another one that's mostly empty with a few hundred thousand prestige to play with .
Shoot me a PM through the board, or send me a tell in game.

Quote:Yeah. I have the same case. VERY nice case. I've been torturing myself with Antec Sonata cases for the last few years in the quest for quiet computing. I finally got sick of having to squeeze stuff in with shaped directional charges and went for something bigger.First, just to let you know...CR takes thousands of pictures and puts them into a "photo receipt" file. Everything that you could possibly think of or forget about...you've got a photo of it (several of it actually).
THE CASE!
It's louder than my Sonata is, but not by a heck of a lot. And routing cables in it was much cleaner too. -
Quote:Nope. Because at that point you'd have just submitted to an internet winkie-sizing contest. You've already lost.I could let you know my CompTIA A+ Certification ID if you want to check. Nobody's hammering this guy for not being happy with the downtime in the middle of his play schedule. Yeah, it sucks AND blows. THAT we understand.
But the silly "well they shoulda done it THIS-A-WAY" and the descent into "The game is dying!" /em thumbsuck. was just irritating. -
Quote:I'd like to be able to treat WW like Wal-Mart too. But I can't.That wasn't a joke about not this year. I hate the idea of placing bids and hoping they fill.
Nope. Natural side effect of supply and demand, as well as the side-effects of the Merit system. I talked about this quite a bit before the advent of the system and was sort of laughed at. I was told "people will just farm merits and get it all anyhow, even easier".Quote:Some oblits haven't sold at certain levels since the first of nov. To me, that's a problem with drop rates.
While I won't say that obtaining merits is HARD, it's non-trivial to assemble enough to spec buy, and sheer hubris to expect one from a random roll.
HUH? Nonononono. That's a "you're doing it wrong" moment. Not trying to be offensive, just trying to impress on you that there's a better way.Quote:Then if multiple bids fill, you're stuck with 3 of the piece at diff. levels, then worry bout offloading them. To much wasted time for me. But that's me.
Place your bids for exactly what you need as if spec-buying. Over time, if stuff doesn't fill, remove the original bid and enter a new, slightly higher one.
Don't put in for 10 of what you need at "Price X" then 10 more at "Price Y".
No!
Bad!
Duuuumb!
Like Reactive Armors when I put my def cap (at L30) build together. I put in for L33 stuff Exactly as many as I needed (save a few brain-farts that netted me enough for my other build). When I was ready to build, I was still two pieces short. At that point I was sick of waiting and just spec-bought them at the appropriate level for merits.
Build...done. -
Quote:And what if the crashes weren't a single problem, but multiple ones, of which not all were fixed (or fixable) before the last patch?Oh dear, not a lot of joined up thinking here then!
Quite rightly, they took down the servers yesterday to fix whatever they had to, but what they also should have done was bring forward the routine downtime for today, so doing two jobs in one period! And if that meant a slightly extended downtime to do so then fair enough.
Nobody's talking about "commercial" sense here. Only technical. This has escaped you.Quote:No need to shut up shop twice when once will do makes commercial sense. -

Obligatory "learn to use the market and you'll never be broke" rant excised.
Spec-buy them with merits. Then you get EXACTLY the recipes you want at EXACTLY the level you want.Quote:So, I'm wondering how best to get them other than cash.
It's POSSIBLE, yes, but your chances are fairly small and you could wind up with a lot of stuff you don't want (though you could come up with some valuable stuff.Quote:Can you also roll them (random) at the Merit Vendor?
Again, yes, but random roll means random.Quote:What about the AE Ticket Rolls?
Suggestion: Don't use the market like a store. DO NOT bid 10 mill apiece for them. Place lot (not "a lot of") bids for well under that and BE PATIENT. The bids WILL fill.
In the meantime, work on accumulating merits to spec-buy whatever you're not able to get easily.
You are NOT going to have them NOW, TODAY. Probably not even this week (maybe not even this year...heheh...year end jokes...). But give it a little bit and you WILL pick the stuff up. And for much less than the rectal-plunder prices you're seeing when you step into WW.
Seriously, work at building merits, run your difficulty as high as you can reasonably manage, and sell off every last drop you get (that isn't something you can use for this build). If you do a little creative investment on the market as well, you'll be positively STUNNED as to how fast the inf rolls in.
Oh, and if you're worried about the cost of the rares you'll need for some of the recipes, do some MA content, rack up a bunch of tickets, and spec-buy the expensive rares at 540 tickets a pop. No inf required. -
Quote:I'd rather have them push downtime (with a schedule) NOW, while not a lot of people are on, than have it CRASH for an indeterminate amount of time in the middle of my gameplay (possibly boning a TF or timed mission).Hi,
so we had a down period yesterday for server maintenance and now again today!
No. But it's naive to think that they can fix KNOWN SERVER CRASH ISSUES without maintenance downtime.Quote:Is it being naive to expect a bit of joined up thinking and planning from those guys in suits that are responsible for having the game up and online?
Then why start a thread whining about it? Seriously!Quote:I have no problems with the offline times due to technical failures/routine maintenance or even bad programming that subsequently requires patching!
This is ignorance talking. Sorry if that offends you, but you don't know what you're talking about.Quote:But two long down times in 24 hours is not the way a commercial company should operate.
If you have known crash issues in a running product, and you have a fix for it, you don't sit back and wait to apply the fix until it's convenient for you. You patch NOW. The customers will be unhappy that there's downtime right now, but they'll be even MORE ticked off if the product crashes and nobody's at the helm over a holiday.

And if that "extended downtime" was a server crash tonight or tomorrow when nobody's here to bring the machines back up? Whoopsie!Quote:Even if it meant one extended downtime that would be better than two disrupted days.

Why not just start a thread entitled "0MFG! 73H G@M3Z IZ D131NG!!!1111" and be done with it already? -
I've found that Ninja run, though it clashes with some of my character concepts, just adds an INCREDIBLE amount of character mobility. The combination existed to a certain degree already, but required several power choices to achieve, limiting options elsewhere.
I ran the final "Crown of Glory" mission last night on my Rad/Elec blaster.
Where, on my Fire/Fire/Fire, I would have hover-blasted, here I wound up ninja-leaping onto portions of the container stacks that the NPCs just couldn't get to and zapping them from there. I've run the mission multiple times on ranged combat characters before, but this is the first time I've done it this way. And it added a completely new dimension to the run. One I enjoyed tremendously. -
Quote:I got invited to one of these a few weeks back.I've noticed a lot of calls for "Samurai Farm" in Atlas Park, Freedom.
Not sure what it is exactly since I've never joined it.
Essentially they're NPCs in Samurai armor that are running, I think, Regen/SS, or WP/Regen, so you get mainly S/L damage and they rez and give you the chance to attack them again, multiplying XP/inf earnings. -
Quote:Well, considering you can't slot Stamina till you're 20, I'd say it goes like this:I'm sure that is fine for the last 3 levels of the character's career, but what about the majority of the character's time on patrol... Y'know, the first 46 levels, before you can slot level 50 IOs?
1-19: BIG FAT NADA! (Tough choices there, I know...

20: EndMod
21: Two EndMod, one +End

No. Ten hundreds is a thousand.
A hundred hundreds is ten thousand.
Correct.Quote:A Thousand Thousands = a Million
You're talking the difference between:Quote:Now here we get a little different
Over here (U.K.) a Million Millions = a Billion
please correct me if I am wrong, but in the U.S.
A Thousand Millions = a Billion?
Short Scale: 1,000,000,000
and
Long Scale: 1,000,000,000,000 (Short Scale: One trillion)
Most English-speaking countries, save the UK itself, are using short scale, as does France, from whom the terms were originally derived. Even the UK uses short scale in a haphazard fashion. It's really a shame that these backwards little third world countries can't learn their mathematics properly and conform to the rest of the modern world.

Yay! It's starting! It's starting! It's...uh, what is it?
If you don't like it, change the damn channel.Quote:Spamming Atlas with samurai farms.
Translation: Get out of Atlas and stop standing around collecting broadcast spam.
No. Simply because you are annoyed with behavior of people using AE WITHIN THE BOUNDS OF THE RULES, we shouldn't nerf AE again. It's already giving less in the way of rewards than standard content.Quote:Please Devs can you cut XP or Tickets in half again.
Read my text. I'll try to keep it monosyllabic to ease assimilation.Quote:Seems that farmers can't learn from the past.

NOT
CARE
IF
YOU
FARM
So please, drop the "T3h d3vz h@73 f@rm0rz" rage.
The devs don't want you utilizing exploits in the MA. This is why Rikti Doll, Mitos, and all the boss/AV farms have gone the way of the dodo. The missions now have a balance of minions, liutenants, and bosses. They also require a fairly broad array of powers (as opposed to similar NPCs in the regular game that usually only spam 2-4 powers).
That and a lot more people see Broadcast than the AE channels, which aren't joined by default.Quote:They are spamming request and broadcast, as if they are too stupid to know that there AE channels.
I already pay to use AE as part of my subscription to the City Of * MMO. If YOU want to pay extra to not use it, that's fine. More power to ya!Quote:I vote we have to PAY inf to use AE after all it is in game a company that provides a service. If I go to the local arcade I have to pay to play video games why not AE?
Why not just petition to have AE removed. That's what you're really screaming for and you know it. So stop trying to be oblique about it.
Oh wait, you'd come up against even MORE opposition then (especially from the devs..) -
