  1. At this point you are not downloading anything, its working all on your computer.

I recommend excluding the CO* folder from your Antivirus for starters then consider a defrag.

You could also post your system information via DXDiag and Hijackthis, it could reveal more information.
  2. I have had that happen 2 or 3 times over the years, 2 of them were on TF's and 1 not.

I'll bet its related to the emergency maintenance yesterday.

'The North American live servers will be taken down momentarily to deploy a hotfix that will address some map crashing issues.'
  3. I sold my last 2 purples for 200M+ last week.

I don't find the set bonuses for purples to be very good bang for the buck, I can generally be more creative and get better returns for a fraction of 200M for build total let alone a set of purples.
  4. There are quite a few active exploits, there is 1 that is so bad I can walk into it with just a Blaster and fight more than 100 baddies that are concentrated in 1 room and because only 16 agro at a time, I just pop insps as fast as they falldown/agro and I can clear the room in about 4 minutes, tickets capped, 5 minutes mission over.

I don't know if its general knowledge how to avoid getting MA slots locked, but the last 2 I reported had Positron as the mission contact so it seems like a few exploiters are spitting in the devs faces.

Its pretty clear to me that the MA is still ridiculously broken.

Few people understand that everyone is at the mercy of the slowest link between them and the site they are downloading from, it could easily be 20 hops from the OP to the game download location and for all he knows hop 11 is the slow one.

Ever since fast broadband connections became common its been rare that the endpoint was the bottleneck, its most likely somewhere out there on the intarwebs, and its also possible that the ISP is throttling.

I also get near 500K/sec downloads for this game most of the time.
  6. If its an actual discrete PhysX card then you need earlier drivers, the newer ones don't work with this game, I forget which earlier version you need though but I would start with something from early 2008.

the drive is a brand new 1TB external.

USB or eSATA? If USB then you are about 1/4 the speed of regular SATA plus a bucket load of CPU overhead. If eSATA then its pretty close in speed depending on the model of course. Could be Firewire but they are less common, its faster and has less CPU overhead than USB.
  8. It takes about 3 or 4 minutes on my computer, I recommend excluding the entire CO* folder from your realtime Antivirus as a start.

If you don't defrag regularly, say once per month as a starting point then a verify/checksum can take a long time too.

Destroying ten billion inf might hold my interest.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thats a drop in the bucket by my quick estimation.

I'm not convinced that a single person can effect even the daily inflation of Inf by any measurable amount, let alone the bulk accumulated total of Inf, or even if you wish only the 'in play' Inf by active players.

Again by my quick estimation you would need to destroy/burn some single digit number of Billions per day to attempt to overcome the amount generated out of thin air.

Now if you had help then you could probably increase your burn rate linearly if you were able to collect inf in some non blocking fashion from WW's (or wherever), but again my quick thinking on this says you will likely generate a diminishing returns scenario to maintain the minimum burn rate, as you have to have significant Inf to generate significant Inf, perhaps a catch 22 situation for anything other than short term.
  10. You are a laugh.

Find a post by me and create some reason to be argumentative, good job.

I am pointing out the obvious that the logos are marketing nothing more, if you disagree please find some proof before you blather on some more about it.

I am more than well aware of multiple renderpath support in whatever graphics engine, and why they exist. Based on all my experience with the game and rendering in general i'll bet they have about 7 renderpaths (maybe double that if you include some different OpenGL specific paths) centered around Shader 2.0 support with a few extra command line tweaks like -textenvcombine etc. I doubt very much that they have any extra renderpaths for any specific Nvidia cards or SLI or anything other than 2 paths 1 inclusive of Shader 2.0 support and 1 without. If you think i'm wrong please show proof, not more of your inane garbage.

And finally thanks for agreeing with me (like usual) that the ATI logo is product placement just like the Nvidia logo.

    Intel X25-M

Benchmarks for SSD have been generally disappointing except for a few models, the Intel being one of them, even then its only about 20% faster than a much cheaper fast HDD which could cost 1/3 the amount you plan to spend.

Everyone makes their own decisions about these kinds of things but I generally council against a purchase that has 300% the cost and only gains 20% performance.
  12. [ QUOTE ]
As for the ATI thing this one is kind of obvious, just whose logo do you see at the bottom of the page?

    [/ QUOTE ]

And the www.cityofheroes.com front page has ATI, its completely obvious that any 3rd party logo anywhere is a marketing thing and has absolutely nothing to do with any sort of special compatibility.

Heck, they still have Ageia down below there, and it doesn't exist as a company at all today.
  13. You need to push well beyond the normal desktop resolutions and AA AF settings to see any benefit from SLI.

That being said i'm generally pegged at 60FPS with my single 4850 card at 1920X1200 with 8X AA and 16X AF and ingame settings maxed.
  14. I thought they did, every 'stuck in the wall' baddie that I have had in quite a while now has popped out without fail, I think the only trick I have used recently is to walk away then come back after a bit.
  15. Its only profane by a small demographic and only when used as a noun, and even then there are a few other definitions of the noun as well.

That being said, the op probably wants to use this every day word as a verb.

I have encountered the other blocking mechanism copyright or whatever it was on another common dictionary word: gambit.

Yes I understand why they feel the need to block that word too but I disagree with it.
  16. The only unstable driver in a long time was the 8.10's iirc, so if you have anything else its OK.

Your problem likely has more to do with Vista and its ongoing graphics instability, I think SP2 or some hotfixes may help with that.
  17. It definately has nothing to do with your fast upload speed, that is 720kbits/sec, very fast upload.

Latency is how long the packet takes to get where its going not the rate of packets.

When I am having comm problems with the game, I try the /neterrorcorrection command usually I set it to 2, default is 0, I dunno what 1 or 2 do but I usually choose 2 and I tend to believe that I notice a difference.

Otherwise, you could chase down things local to you like your Router, see if there is a firmware upgrade or if you are running P2P software at the same time, see if it supports QOS and increase the priority of the game traffic, or turn off the P2P software.
  18. They are being silly, regular firewalls/routers just pass traffic through, they don't modify the packets (except for headers obviously), its even more silly to think that a firewall/router would be smart/dumb enough to modify a 'random' packet from CO* and somehow adjust the reward when its given by the Server. If anything the game client would just invalidate the packet and ask for another.

Ya its pretty revealing, after a second thinking 'wow someone really posted that online' it makes me think about that GIFT comic on Penny Arcade.
  21. I'm not even paying attention that well, he only has 300MB in use and only 204 in the pagefile, I don't see anything strange memory wise.

If it started with a hardware change then I would chase down a hardware problem to start.

I wonder if the OP has tried the simplest test of just temporarily removing the 2nd HDD and the extra fans too if its a power supply problem.
  22. He was running C:\City of Heroes\CityOfHeroes.exe

    Netgear Router

Dang there isn't even a firmware upgrade for that model its so new.

Assuming its setup stock except for the basics like wireless security and a password, is anyone on the network running any P2P software like bittorrent etc?

If so some routers will have problems with all the concurrent connections so you could test with that off, but its just a first guess.

There is also some possibility that its a bug in the firmware that needs to get reported and fixed as neither of those 2 programs require any special amount of traffic or connections.

My thought was more "how is ignoring warnings considered a vindication for doing something dumb?"

    [/ QUOTE ]
there's a difference between glazing over the safety bit in an owner's manual and sticking your tongue into woodchipper after being told it will do terrible things to your face

i'm of the opinion that this falls into the former category since every warning was either out of the way or accompanied by other text that no one really wanted to read

    [/ QUOTE ]

I get a kick out of the stunningly willful suspension of common sense exhibited by many of the recent posters in these threads too.

For example, how ridiculous is someone saying 'they left it in the game and I may have abused it but its their fault!'.

    [/ QUOTE ]

LOL I get a kick out of people who trot out "ignorance of the law is no excuse"

When the law is "You know it when you see it"

    [/ QUOTE ]

So are you saying that you don't have common sense? Its a perfectly reasonable excuse for how you are perceiving the events of i14, so I'm seriously asking?

There are other rationalizations or excuses you could have but my initial thinking on them is that they are less flattering than a lack of common sense as it is one of the few core things that can be learned or taught.
