They are being silly, regular firewalls/routers just pass traffic through, they don't modify the packets (except for headers obviously), its even more silly to think that a firewall/router would be smart/dumb enough to modify a 'random' packet from CO* and somehow adjust the reward when its given by the Server. If anything the game client would just invalidate the packet and ask for another.

to which my reply was "no way. that does not happen. tell me you are kiddin, blah blah blah"....
so my questions are: is it true? will my firewall prevent me from recieving certain drops? and, if so, how can one remedy this?
any feedback on this would be so very much apprieciated.

No maybe about it, it is NOT your router.
It is simply a matter of luck.
I've seen others get great rolls. I usually get crappy ones. But law of averages and whatnot, you keep at it and eventually you'll get something good.
Things to keep in mind are: How often do these lucky players play? How often do they play ticket earning content? How often do they select Gold or whatever rolls? How does that compare to you?

Okay, i find it amusing that anyone might think it's the firewall, sorry. The random Roll is calculated on the server, and the results are then sent to you. The server decides the results and puts the item in your character's inventory, all that happens on your end, is you see what the server picked for you. So unless your firewall has hacked the server and is trying to sabotage you, then no..
I've litterally rolled 5 or 6 LotG 7.5s in the time Ive played this game. All of those were back when the task forces themselves rewarded the roll, before the merits. I figured I was pretty lucky for those, but then count the fact that I have rarely found any other good recipes, good salvage or any costume piece recipes, it all evens out.

Ram fluid needs changing in the computer, obviously, and I'm sure the hard drive washers are out of whack too. Probably need to check the CPU bolts while you're at it, and make sure your video card's hydraulic lifters aren't shot.
/random chance. luck of the draw. Not broken, and not anything with your rig/system/home.

It's rare SALVAGE they stop you from getting. 
I know my post provides no beneficial contribution to the thread, but man I haven't come across such an amusing question in a really long time.

The question is very silly, but i'll offer a suggestion:
Stop using random rolls with TFs or SFs. Merits allow us something the previous system did not: banking your successes. Take advantage of that. Maybe you aren't "getting lucky" as much as everyone else, but you can save up your merits for the high-dollar stuff. Then, you can either slot it or make big bucks on the market with it.

Yeah I learned very quickly not to rely on random rolls for anything. Heck the best recipe roll i've ever gotten from AE is a blessing of the zephyr, and merits.. ergh, i've never random rolled a recipe that was worth more at WW than a regular store >.<
That said, I love running Task Forces. I have accumulated so many merits, I have bought, 3 miracle uniques (one i crafted and sold), 1 numina unique, 2 LotG 7.5% a Steadfast +3% unique and a bunch of lesser ones.
Catharctic is right, Merits allows us to bank on our successes. Task forces are even better to run now with merits.. no more trap of the hunter for defeating Lord Recluse. Not only do we earn merits that we can put in the bank to go towards that special IO, we still earn a ton of inf and get drops on the way.. (purples anyone?) .
But your not alone there. I've never rolled anything random thats been fantastic.
