Checksumming - How Long Should It Take?
It takes about 3 or 4 minutes on my computer, I recommend excluding the entire CO* folder from your realtime Antivirus as a start.
If you don't defrag regularly, say once per month as a starting point then a verify/checksum can take a long time too.
This is a brand new XP install (as of 1 day ago). So a cluttered drive would not be the problem. This is doubly so considering the drive is a brand new 1TB external. Only other thing installed on it is LOTRO, which is the reason I had to install XP anyway.
Some things to try:
Copy the updater to the desktop (not a shortcut) and run it from there pointing it to the right directory.
Delete the coh.checksum file from the CoH directory and reboot.

Okay. It has been copied to the desktop. How do I then point it to the right directory? I'm not seeing any "Working Directory" option in the properties.

USB or eSATA? If USB then you are about 1/4 the speed of regular SATA plus a bucket load of CPU overhead. If eSATA then its pretty close in speed depending on the model of course. Could be Firewire but they are less common, its faster and has less CPU overhead than USB.
It's USB.

I think when you execute the file it will ask where your CoX directory resides.

I'm attempting to do a COH install on an XP box. After installing with the MA Edition DVD and running the updater, the game did a veryfy, and then it went to "checksumming" That took about 3 hours. After that, my hopes for being able to finally play were dashed when the updater showed "checksumming 0/2.8G" with an estimated completion time of 5 hours.
I figured "may as well let it run and spend that time getting a bunch of other projects done."
Well, it finally finished. And now it has started another checksumming session, again with a 5 hour estimated completion time.
Is this normal? Is this in an endless loop? What can be done to fix this?
