  1. My vote for best use of mechanics:
#1) The Next War on Drugs #245042
    #2) Macguffin Delivery Service #1567

Some things were done in these arcs that I wasn't aware could be done ...
    very interesting.
  2. My vote for the comedy category:
    #1 Seeking Men 169114
    #2 Vernor von Grun 115174
  3. I'll have to disagree with Venture on this. I have several arcs sitting on hold because I wanted to add:
    1. A custom civilian group.
    2. Opposing custom villain groups
    3. (More) custom named npcs that you meet as you progress through the arc.
    4. More objectives.
    5. Larger villain groups
Note: Not necessarily all of the above in the same arc .

The constraints of the current system are annoying to say the least. this is excellent news.

Now, if they'd just allow us to design maps ... I would be one happy camper.
  4. My votes for best short arc:
#1) Of Sound Body and Mind (13107)
    #2) Becky's Revenge (60197)
  5. I have an GEForce 8800 GT. Just curious how you think that would hold up...

I do agree though. In-game rewards would be more inclusive and really, the physical prizes weren't even that GREAT (I've got a mid-range video card which is more or less the same as what they were giving out).
    Something like:
Best Overall: Your choice of 1 PVP or Purple IO set (for one toon only) + 1 extra MA slot + 1 extra character slot on the server of your choice

Each Category Winner: Your choice of a Purple IO set + 1 extra MA slot

Category Runner-Ups: Your choice of an Orange IO set + 1 extra MA slot

I think this would encourage as much participation as a physical prize.

Personally, I think they should change the prizes to be in-game rewards only. That way the European/Canadian rules would be irrelevant and everyone could participate.
  8. I really do hope they have an alternate set of animations - I was hoping to make a Jonah Hex type character.
  9. Wow! I'm floored - and very happy.
Grats to all the other winners. Just played "The Most Important Thing" - easily the most gutwrenching story I've ever played - and very well written.
Havent played the others yet, except for Blight, but I intend to.
  10. The prizes for the AE Arc of the Year are nice, but wouldnt it be cool if 1 or more of the winners were actually made into in-game task forces? Put the contact in an actual zone and map the missions into entry points in that zone...

The only final criteria would be that it would have to fit into game canon.

I'm sure the game writers would have to tweak the stories a bit, which would be ok as long as the general flow of the story is followed.

    #1. Include a teen or pre-teen girl as a major character. (4 of 8)

#2. The big bad must shout "NO! This cannot be! I am..INVINCIBLE!" (or similar) before being defeated. (4 of 8)

#3. The story should involve time travel. (3 of 8)

#4. The player should fight undead. (3 of 8)

#5. A mystical artifact must be used as a plot device. (3 of 8)

#6. A mad scientist is used as an adversary. (3 of 8)

#7. An adversary must murder a relative of a major character for shock value. (3 of 8)

    Conclusion:

    * The next arc I write should be about a teenage girl with a magic sword who goes back in time to fight the evil mad scientist vampires who killed her cousin.

PS. In case it's not obvious: Just kidding. Having fun with statistics.

    Afraid I'm guilty of numbers 1, 4, 5, and 7.
  12. Tales of Croatoa: A Rose By Any Other Name - lots of ghosts, witches, and other Croatoa factions.

Pirate's Quest: Undead pirates galore, aaaaar!!!! ( Comedy arc )

See my sig for the arc ids.
  13. I'll throw one of my rarely played arcs in the ring:
    131430 Starfare: First Contact

Maybe if one dev sees the bug in mission 4 it might get fixed.
  14. Best DO Range Arc (15-25)

    My Vote:
    #1 Sibling Rivalry #118690 @Sister Flame

#2 The Invasion of the Bikini-Clad Samurai Vampiresses from Outer Space! #61013 @Aliana Blue

I guess I'll learn someday to stop leaving constructive criticism - just love those retaliatory 1 stars.
  15. I'm curious about the benefit of the fighting pools as well. I just took my BS/Dark Scrap out to Cimerora just to see how he would fare on "the wall". Needless to say, he was shredded.

Is there anything to be done to increase his survivability against high dps smash/lethal opponents?
  16. Any suggesions on a tablet? Wacoms appear to be the most popular choice on Amazon - but fairly expensive.
  17. Looking at all the artwork in this forum, I'd like to get back into drawing/painting again. I havent done any art since college.

Any suggestions for an inexpensive pc drawing tablet and painting software?
I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 (bundled with my PC), which I consider to be royal pain to use even touching up photographs -- I'd like something a bit easier to use and with more functionality.
  18. I submitted Tales of Croatoa for best in-canon arc, although I extended canon quite a bit.

I was thinking about submitting Pirate's Quest for best custom group, but decided against it. I had 5 more custom mobs in that group that just wont fit due to space constraints.... kind of depressing.

Get over it. You've been hammered harder than Firi and QuiJon were in that thread about bringing back old-Sk. At this point, I think you've gone beyond simply raising questions to outright flame-baiting and trolling the forums.
Perhaps you could point out where I've changed my idea?
As far as trolling goes, your post qualifies.

That said, I'll add my voice to the masses and point out that disconnecting appearance and functionality is one of the best things this game has going for it. The options that exist to look unique are just huge. Costume creator, customized weapons, and now with I16 customized powers.

You also have a lot of options for how to build your character - SO's, HO's, IO's, Sets, Purples, Frankenbuilding ...

Just don't EVER tie these to each other.
Sorry to disagree, but in no way has my idea has been destroyed.

    Short synopsis of responses:
    1. "Wow has something like this and I strongly dislike WoW. Therefore we shouldnt have it." - this is a statement of your personal preference, one with which I disagree. I could give a long list of stuff I dislike about WoW, and an equally long list of things I do. Your personal prejudice shouldnt narrow what this game can and should implement in the future.

    2. "I dont want items to dictate my appearance." This response given by people who read about 2 lines of my idea. Nowhere did I say the items would change your appearance.

    3. "I dont want to farm for items" - no one would force you. I explicitly said the items would be 'nice to haves', and not particularly overpowering.

    4. "CoH should not be taking ideas from other games" - follow this philosophy and CoH will be digging itself into a very tiny, unchanging, stagnant hole. Taking ideas from other games, where it makes sense, is not a bad thing.

    5. "My toon doesnt thematically use items" - ok, then dont use items, no one would force you to. They would be completely optional.

    6. "IO's already serve this purpose." My idea is additive, not meant to replace IOs. As I've already stated, these items could add additional procs or abilities that you wouldnt get with an SO or IO or serve as global enhancements ( similar to a permanent inspiration ).

I wasn't aware of this. If so, that's excellent news. I just hope it isnt plain +def or +dmg SO equivalents. I also hope it's a bit more imaginative than just calling them "global enhancements." Again, giving them names that indicate they're physical items that you wear ( visible or not ) would add something to the game. Making them origin sp//ecific would also ( finally ) make origin actually mean something.

    Quote:
If we did that.... wouldn't we turn this to WoW... with tights?
Considering that there is very little in WoW that the WoW developers can claim they invented, the answer is no.
WoW is a great cannibilizer of ideas from other games - something the CoH devs should also consider doing.

Really? Can you show me how to slot one independent of a specific power?
Any IOs that have the special procs that I listed, or give your toon a specific tweek ( such as debuffing ) that your archtype normally wouldnt have?

What I'm proposing goes a step beyond what IOs or other enhancements would normally give you, and allow you to add a little flavor to your toon.
For example, what spider based villain wouldnt love to have a spider pet proc occasionally?

  24. The one thing this game is missing that is common in most other MMORPGs are items ( i.e. rings, belts, necklaces, etc. ) We have the generic concept of an "enhancement", not exactly something that would inspire a new player to stick with the game. Lets face it, people like "stuff".

What I'd propose are the following item slots:
    1. Necklace ( Focus: Buff, Debuffs, Control, Special )
    2. Left Ring ( Focus: Damage/Accuracy )
    3. Right Ring ( Focus: Damage/Accuracy )
    4. Belt Buckle ( Focus: HP/Endurance Regeneration )
    5. Left Kneepad ( Focus: Defense/Resistance )
    6. Right Kneepad ( Focus: Defense/Resistance )
    7. Left Ankle Bracelet ( Focus: Running/Flight Speed )
    8. Right Ankle Bracelet ( Focus: Running/Flight Speed )
    9. Cape Brooch ( Special )

I would not make these items overly powerful - more like "nice to have", but not a huge advantage.
    Examples:
Necklace of Control: 2% extended duration on hold powers
Ring of Domination: 2% extra single target damage
Ring of Fire: 10% of your smashing/lethal damage is converted to fire damage
Buckle of Fortitude: 1% increase to endurance regeneration and 2% extra hit points
Bracelet of Akira: 2% increase to flight speed
Brooch of Arachnida: 1% chance to spawn several spider pets ( 10 min cooldown after proc )
Crimson Kneepads: 3% increase to fire resistance
Kneepad of Conversion: 10% of energy damage taken is treated like S/L damage.
Kneepad of Punishment: 1% of damage taken is mitigated and reflected back to your attacker.

I'd have items specific to certain origins and rare items only dropping in certain task forces. There are too many task forces that simply arent run that often - this would give an incentive.

Rarity: Varying from common to purple, with bonuses varying depending on the rarity.

I just feel enhancements are a bit too generic - this would give a hook that new players from other RPGs would feel comfortable with, and possibly help with retention. The devs would have to be careful, of course, not too make them overpowered. I'd leave it up to the devs whether these items would be visible or not.
  25. A lot of these are level 35 and 40 enhancement sets. These are better than the level 50 alternatives?
