And the Award Goes to....

Marcian Tobay. Or he should get a special award because of what he just put up on Twitter:

Quote:
@MarcianTobay Got a request to tweet the AE winners. As Westley said to Buttercup...
So, to anyone who was nominated for an AE award at HeroCon, Marcian Tobay will tweet when he finds out, and in turn I'll try and stick them up here ASAP (unless someone else beats me to it).

And yes, I believe this is the same Marcian Tobay from the forums.

I'm really interested in the Arc of the Year nominees and winner, since the initial announcement said that Arc of the Year would be chosen from all of the submissions, meaning that it may or may not be one of the arcs nominated for other categories.

Hero Arc: Most Important Thing by Aisyana
Villain Arc: Internship in the Fine art of Revenge by Twoflower
Canon Arc: Tales of Croatoa: A Rose by Any Other Name by @Silvers1 aka Hercules
Original Story: Sabrina's Tale by Redbone (almost broke my refresh button for those 20 seconds)
Villain Group: Blight by Witch Engine
Arc of the Year: Sabrina's Tale by Redbone.

That's a little disappointing, I think Arc of the Year shouldn't have won both categories. But congratulations to all the winners. I've only played Hercules's but I will definitely play the others. All but twoflower's are also nominatees in my Player Choice Awards, so good luck to them there as well.

Wow! Best Villain arc. Man, the contenders for the award were really strong, too!

Thanks to Paragon Studios, and thanks to the folks who played and rated my arc! I wouldn't have submitted it if not for the positive feedback I got on it, convincing me it would be worth a shot. Kudos!

Haven't played the Hero or Villain ones. "Tales of Croatoa" got five stars from me, it's fantastic. I was not impressed by "Sabrina's Tale" (3 stars), and don't even consider Custom Group to be an award-worthy category.

Edit: Also, I thought the Original Story category was for stories set entirely outside City canon. "Sabrina's Tale" is not.

I find it interesting that three of the five winning arcs contain teen or pre-teen girls whose lives suck. Maybe four, if you play "Blight" with a Buffy-like character to get the full impact of the arc. I haven't actually played the "best villainous" winner, so it could be all of them.

I also find it interesting that out of all the girls whose lives suck, the pre-teen handles it best, and ends up as the most sympathetic character out of all of them.

She didn't have her dog killed as well. Better luck next time, man.

Doesn't count, since the events of CoW suck equally for everyone.

Now if the teenaged superheroine had expected you to take time out of your busy schedule of kicking Rikti butt to listen to her angst about her dead friends, then you might have something.

Ok... So... Instead of Lazon exploding, I'll have The Transluscent Girl angsting about death and the war just before she witnesses her dog being crushed beneath Hro'Dath's boot.

Yes!

Thank you, LJ and Eva! You're inspirations to us all!

Wait!

I'll have the dog crushed and then...

Wait on it...

Wait on it...

Stuffed in a refrigerator!

OMG!!!! That's IT!

I don't think that's enough, give her a friend who dies and turns out to have had a lesbian crush on her.

Or something. Adding lesbians seems to be a Drama Multiplier.

And then Lazon goes to the refrigerator to get his ham sandwich, and finds the dog and that his ham sandwich is gone! He explodes in a shower of sparkly angst.

This triggers:

[NPC Dialogue] Hro'Dath: Analysis: Canine: Squishy, slightly crunchy.
[NPC Dialogue] Hro'Dath: Sandwich: Delicious.

Gratz to all! This goes to show you that people appreciate different things as 2 of the 5 arcs here were trashed by some board critics.

Tales of Croatoa and the Most Important Thing are 2 of my favorite arcs I have played.

I will most definately play the others when I have time.

Wow! I'm floored - and very happy.
Grats to all the other winners. Just played "The Most Important Thing" - easily the most gutwrenching story I've ever played - and very well written.
Havent played the others yet, except for Blight, but I intend to.

Most of the nominees that I've played have been good at least with one winner being one of my favorite arcs and one being the most poorly constructed, over-wrought and generally eye-rolling arcs that I've played (at least partially because the idea was good and it was the execution that tied it up out back and killed it).

I sort of sit back and go, "Yeah, okay, sure, WHAT!? Are you kidding me!?"

I'm going to be sure that all of my arcs from now on have over-emoting female characters who use sexist imagery to tell stories that should have been good. Also, I'm going to assume the people playing my arc are stupid and hold their hands because no one is capable of putting 2 and 2 together without being hinted that it's 4 at least 30 times.

Or I guess I could try to be awesome like Blight, but since I have joked with Witch_Engine that our villain groups (created at roughly the same time and independent of each other) are virtually identical. Maybe I should have submitted for that category . . .

Holy hannah... Just. Let. It. Go.

Really, you're starting to come across like the pensive, over-wrought, angsty adolescent people keep criticizing. Man up and congratulate *all* the winners and move on. Geesh...
