Elec/Dark opinions

Hey all,

I have been out of the game quite a while and have been trying to put together a scrapper i've never played before. I do have a Broadsword/Dark at 44 so I know /Dark fairly well, but Electric/ is new to me.

Can i get some feedback on general power selection? Here's what I'm considering:

Primary Power Set: Electrical Melee
Secondary Power Set: Dark Armor
Power Pool: Flight
Power Pool: Fitness
Power Pool: Fighting

Hero Profile:
------------
Level 1: Havoc Punch
Level 1: Dark Embrace
Level 2: Jacobs Ladder
Level 4: Murky Cloud
Level 6: Air Superiority
Level 8: Swift
Level 10: Obsidian Shield
Level 12: Build Up
Level 14: Health
Level 16: Dark Regeneration
Level 18: Thunder Strike
Level 20: Stamina
Level 22: Boxing
Level 24: Cloak of Darkness
Level 26: Fly (yeah this is late but i'll use temp travel powers early)
Level 28: Tough
Level 30: Weave
Level 32: Lightning Rod
Level 35: Oppressive Gloom (should work well with the Disorient effects of several other powers?)
Level 38: Soul Transfer

Slotting -- I'm not rich and don't have the patience for the market so I'm likely to not have very good IO sets to slot. If you can recommend useful but not bank-breaking sets, please do.
Goal -- I took Tough and Weave in hopes of ramping up my defenses. Good idea? Bad idea considering I won't have the cash for high end IO sets?
Goal -- I was hoping for some nice complementary Disorients between OG and my attacks. Good idea or off base?

Thanks for your freedback!

One quick suggestion on IOs: try grabbing dirt cheap ones from sets with lousy bonuses and frankenslotting your powers. Don't worry about set bonuses, just cram in as much enhancement value as possible. If you don't mind leaving bids up a few days and you avoid IOs with really expensive rare salvage requirements you can get 8-9 slots' worth of enhancement value out of 6 slots, and do it for less than the cost of buying SOs from 25-50.

One other tip: don't write anything off as too expensive for about three weeks. We're coming off a double XP weekend and that always makes the market go crazy for a while.

Cascade, level 50 Blaster (NRG/NRG since before it was cool)
Mechmeister, level 50 Bots / Traps MM
FAR too many non-50 alts to name

Hmmm. I'd switch Thunder Strike and Swift to get an extra strong attack earlier. Weave isn't very useful; you have no little other defense to stack it with and it's weak on its own.

My present planned power choices are:

Lady Stormwraith:

1 : Havoc Punch, Dark Embrace
2 : Jacob's Ladder
4 : Murky Cloud
6 : Air Superiority
8 : Thunder Strike
10 : Obsidian Shield
12 : Swift
14 : Fly
16 : Dark Regeneration
18 : Health
20 : Stamina
22 : Cloak of Darkness ( with a Karma -kb IO )
24 : Build Up
26 : Chain Induction
28 : Hasten
30 : Death Shroud
32 : Lightning Rod
35 : Oppressive Gloom
38 : ?

Yeah I actually did that (took Thunder Strike earlier) last night as I leveled this guy up; he needed another attack.

So does anyone else think the Fighting pool is without merit? I'm not married to it at all, just thought I'd seen others use it with /Dark. I have never been a huge fan of that pool so I'm not sad to drop it ... anyone want to try to talk me into keeping it?

Thanks for the feedback.

I was curious on whether cloak of darkness obscures the graphical effect of lightinings attacks? Lightning Rod is one of the coolest attacks I have ever played with (got the bump on test server).

Slotting is always tricky unless you spend a lot of time focusing on the markets. I would just go with IOs and frakenslotting to your weaknesses. The hard one that is important is the minus kb IO which is always very expensive. A work around is fighting while hovering.

I am not a fan of hasten these days but may necessary if you don't work on getting some recharge on your set IOs.

I'm curious about the benefit of the fighting pools as well. I just took my BS/Dark Scrap out to Cimerora just to see how he would fare on "the wall". Needless to say, he was shredded.

Is there anything to be done to increase his survivability against high dps smash/lethal opponents?

Im not sure, but i think one (or the) reason for the toughness of the "wall" is that the roman bastaads have quite a lot of defence debuffs in their attacks... I could be wrong thou.. (sry for not really answering the OP thou )

I love my Elec/Dark. So much fun. Haven't picked up CoD, not sure if I will. Got a Theft of Essence Chance for +End (immensely helpful in Dark Regen) off a random roll, and a Steadfast -KB for about 10 million.

I slotted with IO sets at 17, picking sets that gave End or Recovery bonuses early on. Ended up spending around a million to get all the recipes/salvage and ended with recovery just less than unslotted stamina.

I certainly plan to pick up Tough, not certain on Weave yet. Tough is always a good addition to a scrapper or tanker. I'd certainly recommend picking up at least Tough and slotting it. Should make a significant difference in survivability.

High-end, with a lot of IO's, I think the combo could be a monster. Even just simple low-level slotting it's a lot of fun, if not uber.

They ALL float down here. When you're down here with us, you'll float too!

That's RIGHT, Obsidian Shield doesn't have any -KB like a lot of other secondaries. Grrr.
