  1. So many options, so little ability to PL myself post-nerf.

I'm going to be rolling up an Earth/Earth and an Archery/Kin, possibly also an Archery/Cold despite loving my purpled AR/Cold - something about using Sleet + Heat Loss + Rain of Arrows just warms my cold, shriveled heart.

I can't do this yet, though. I have to spend a month or two on my existing characters first. Automatic sidekick infliction is playing holy hell with my main character's IOs. Since IOs are mostly available at max level, I've mostly got 'em at 50, and when forced down to 44 yesterday I suddenly lost a LOT of power. 1b in LotGs? Try 200m. At least the purples stuck around.

So I want to roll some new alts, but I can't until I adapt to the new ISK system.

I've got one of these as well, with totally different results.

I started this char at release, as a solo alt - all the rest of my characters are completely team-oriented and I wanted a way to play by myself. /Energy is a good single-target set, and knockback offers mitigation for bosses which is important when you can't rely on domination being up all the time.

The problem is that both Carrion Creepers and the Fly Trap spam immobilizes with -kb on them. The first 28 levels you rely on knockback as mitigation against bosses; after 32 you can't reliably knock anything back anymore because the pets tie them down.

I'm also a little underwhelmed with Bone Crusher and Total Focus. TF should be a mag 4 disorient under domination, but for some reason doesn't stun bosses in one shot regardless. Same story with Bone Crusher and lts. The damage is OK, but the recharge is pretty long and the stun is unreliable - I ended up grabbing Air Superiority to fill out a melee chain and add mitigation through knockdown, which is often ruined by the pets.
  3. With 2 crabs and a widow, your defense should be softcapped regardless.

If you're always always always going to play with that team, I'd go Something/Willpower. None of your allies has a heal of any sort, and Willpower with capped defense and debuffed targets is basically god mode.

Hate willpower? /Dark and /Fire have resist-based shields and nice self-heals. Pushing yourself from 50% defense to 70% defense by selecting a def-based secondary won't help much, unless you're just after the increased damage from /shield.
  4. If you've got a supergroup base with porters to all the zones, you can use it as a replacement Ouro portal every hour.

Nice in case you use your Ouro to get somewhere, and then realize you needed to be somewhere else.
  5. Ooooh, okay, I probably passed over the sliders while looking for a radio button. Thanks!
  6. I can't see playing my crab without them - they're the single target damage that takes down the stragglers that are left after my AOE barrage. Then again, I also skipped all the melee attacks, so YMMV.
  7. Hah! Count me in when you hit 40, Hart of Rock an Roll is my Earth/Fire dom.

Too much potential for good jokes - like 'Thump-thump, thump-thump, thump-thump, thump-thump' when casting Earthquake :P

Maybe I'll have to roll an Earth/Earth - what level are you guys currently?

    Farmers Adapt.

I did some work on my boss farm with story and limericks - basically just added lieuts and minions to it, but never got around to actually farming it. The nice part is that I'll be able to add triple the number of limericks, but unfortunately they'll be on undesirable minions and lieutenants.

That's just for leveling stuff up though; for infamy farming I'll be doing -1 / 8x on the TV map with bosses off and hoping for purples. Unfortunately I've got that map at 50, so I'll probably have to reroll to pick it up at 48 to get the most out of my time.

Wow, that's good to know. Customs tend to be MUCH harder than slammers though, so I guess this is going to take some work and testing to refine.

Any reason to go Granite over SR? Seems like a Defense set would be much easier to work over, since defense debuffs are plentiful and tohit buffs don't hit the damage cap.

I'm also curious about WM vs Battle Axe - I'd think that anyone can get a -kb IO and neutralize BA's knockback, but the WM stuns could be more dangerous in large numbers. It's lethal rather than smashing, but don't all sets get the same resistance/defense to both?
  9. I couldn't find an option for it in game, so I thought I'd ask here.

Is there some way to turn off the giant center-screen pop up box that appears whenever your level is going to change?

Having to click that thing every single time I zone is intrusive and bothersome. I expect it also breaks immersion, for people who care about that sort of thing.
  10. As far as market effects go, I know I've pulled all my cash out of the marketplace and am waiting for someone else to make the first move.

I'll probably start crafting and selling either generic IOs or the huge pile of random junk I ended up with from gold rolls, and give it a week or two before I invest heavily.

    NRG/Kin

Bone Smasher and Total Focus do good damage for doms, and Power Boost is nice. It's also very cheap to permadom because you can slot a lot of knockback and stun sets for bonuses.

Defenders do negligible damage anyway, so their secondary doesn't matter as much. They mainly rely on a primary with heavy res debuffs to amplify the damage they do with whatever secondary they choose.
  12. I support the idea that we should be able to force our local computer to display only the standard powersets.

I've noticed performance degradation that's pegging my CPU usage at 100% and dropping my framerate to around 20 fps when grouped with players who have customized powers. It's too early to say whether this is caused by the usual post-patch server instability or by customized powers taking up extra juice for some reason, but I'd like to be able to force the defaults to fix performance.

    NRG/Kin

AVs are basically immune. 90% resistance and 50 mag of protection means you'd have to slap them with 501 mag of KB to get them off their feet, which is probably impossible.

Aside from that, while Energy can be a reasonable choice for some playstyles, it's particularly bad for /kin. Knockback pushes targets away; you want targets near you to heal yourself, refill your endurance, and get the most out of fulcrum shift.

Maybe Energy/Rad? Then you can get some use out of the KB to force your toggle debuffs into the right position. /Rad also solos better, which seems like it might help you a lot if you're going Energy/.

Good luck with that. I have as much luck hitting more than 3 people with Fulcrum Shift as I do herding cats.
  15. I think it depends on the article in question and how you do it.

For example, I have too many AH slots spread among too many characters to manage. I might do something like grab a non-market-using alt and place 150 bids on LotG +Recharge at 50.

Why? Well, it's expensive enough for people to speculate on it. On any given day it can cost anywhere from 150m-250m. Artificially inflating demand increases the apparent value to a speculator, so if I'm selling it may push my sale price closer to 250m.

For most stuff it's probably pointless - people who buy generic IOs and salvage aren't necessarily market-savvy enough to understand it. Probably only worth doing if you expect a lot of speculation and are planning to sell.

    Market Slowdown?

Just.. a bit of curiousity.. if you're buying at 1m and reselling at 1.1m that'd mean a loss of 100k per slot, wouldn't it?
  17. IIRC, Herostats has a clock on it. It definitely overlays on top of CoX, and it's what I use to keep track of bubble timers on an 8 man team.

It's a reasonable argument that anything that can be bought or sold - and indeed, the entire auctionhouse system itself - is a reward for hardcore marketeers. It creates and rewards an entirely new type of play within the game that some people find, if not fun, at least worth the time investment.

Ultimately the creator's goal is to get people to invest time and money in their game. Therefore, PVP IOs are for marketeers as well as PVPers.

  21. I'd get rid of the AOE confuse and pick up scramble thoughts. Scramble Thoughts is mag 4, which means it disorients a boss in one shot. You don't have the ST confuse to stack with the AOE confuse, so you won't be confusing bosses. Remember, no Domination or Overpower for Fortunatas.

For the most part, your great defense buffs should carry you through anything minion-sized and pretty much negate lieuts as long as you focus them. I'd tend to ensure buffs are up, scramble a boss, dominate a lieut and then blast away at the remaining lieut and let the minions get wiped out in collateral damage.

Solo you'll do great with Scramble + Dominate - you'll have hard controls up on two enemies out of a pack of maybe three, and substantial personal damage and defenses to take down the other one. Knock them down one at a time and Bob's your uncle.

Yes, there're RPers; they're more the majority on the forums than they are in the game, and if you're actually in a team with 'em they tend not to RP, which is both very bad and very good *hiss* at the same time. Sometimes you can get 'em started, but it's my experience that most folks can't type eloquent descriptions and dialog sequences while running in panic from an AV.

As far as elitist cliques - sure, there are people who like to play together because they find that the people they play with frequently are better (by whatever criteria) than random PUGgers. I haven't noticed a lot of animosity or contempt among them - they're seclusive rather than offensive. That's even true of the *hiss* ERP/MRP folks, who tend to form up into cliques for more obvious reasons, like.. paternity. Oh NO my man is NOT yo' baby daddy!

Bear in mind that there's no reliable way to verify someone's age in-game before you get involved in *hiss* ERP with em. Wouldn't want a visit from a federal agent to ruin your game/life/pliability.

  23. I'm a little surprised to hear that people have found sets that do more damage than bots/dark.

My highest is a 42 Necro/Dark, but I've played half a dozen MMs to 40 and played with dozens of MMs at 50. The only thing I've seen that even compares is Thugs/Dark, because it's the other set that gets Tar Patch + HUGE Burn Patch as a combo. I played with a Bots/TA the other day, and despite the extra -res debuff he still didn't impress nearly as much as a Bots/Dark.

Which sets are people thinking of as being significantly better damage?

That's actually counterproductive for my SS. I've got FF+Recharge slotted in it, so I try to wait 10s after activation before I stomp again. Keeps me from overlapping the buff and loosing out on part of it, and means that with 40%ish recharge I'm still pretty close to perma hasten if I'm careful about it and constantly fighting.

  25. Hmm. Would that turn Bonfire into a Knockdown, or does that mean you'd have to stack a bunch of .67 mag knockbacks to knockdown an AV?
