Anyone decide NOT to take the pets on a Crab Spider

I didnt take the first pets the Spiderlings and I am strongly considering dropping the second pets. I am thinking of just adding more AoE into my build. However I think the big pets do help on tough boss and AV fights.

Anyone else not take the pets or drop them and what has been your experience ???

The hard things I can do--- The impossible just take a little bit longer.

If numbers are so much more important than a teammate who is fun to play with, forget about the game altogether and go play with a calculator instead. -Claws and Effect-

I can't see playing my crab without them - they're the single target damage that takes down the stragglers that are left after my AOE barrage. Then again, I also skipped all the melee attacks, so YMMV.

I didnt take any melee attacks at all. I went ranged and AoE I have three decent single target attacks. The one thing I keep looking at is how the Reinforcements help with Boss and AV fights.

I know we aren't giving the advice the OP is asking for, but I can't imagine my crab without them. My crab 'blastermind', though neither Blaster nor Mastermind, has no melee attacks. The focus is the pets (6 all total with PP pet) and AOE damage. I have 2 single target range attacks and no melee. With various IO sets, Recharge IO's and Hasten, my Spiderlings are perma, with the PP pet about 15 seconds behind them. The Reinforcements are about 30 seconds behind PP pet.

Once you figure your toggles into what your pets can do, you have a small army that not many foes can take for very long. Also, take into consideration that there are 6 extra targets for enemies to pound on, making it less likely you'll bite the dust before Serum is recharged.

If I may ask, is there a particular reason you don't want the pets or just playing style?

Most fights you see in PvE are fairly straightforward, hitting one spawn at a time, a boss or two. Sometimes another jumps in, or they all like to stay at range and teammates are getting shot, or theres an AV or two there, or something else that means "This is going to be a tougher fight." Thats a good time for pets, even if you don't focus on maxing out the recharge. I didn't take all the possible pets, though, skipped the Patron ones.

It should be very possible to take at least 2 pets and still have a pretty much full AoE attack chain with some effort on a +recharge IO build. Maybe a few single target shots between, but theres almost always some tougher foe to focus those on anyway to get everyone to drop at once.

I guess the better question is, what would you take instead of the pets?

I've got all the AOEs including Heavy Burst and Dark Obliteration, and still managed to fit the pets into my build. The only thing I skipped that I could see an occasional use for is Serum, and I'm thinking about replacing Heavy Burst with it now that I've got enough recharge not to need it on most fights.

The pets represent 2 power selections and at most a dozen slots. Are you grabbing Frenzy? Arm Lash? Slice? I could probably provide better advice if I knew what you were considering skipping them to add to your build, or what powers you would consider dropping from your petless build in order to fit them in.
