    any advice?

    [ QUOTE ]
As a kinetic, I don't need a proper travel power because of Inertial Reduction, but I was wondering what power would give me more defense, Maneuvers or Combat Jumping fro Leaping pool, so I'd pick between them... any advice?

    [/ QUOTE ]

With my fire/kin corruptor I had IR as my 'travel power' - but really didn't get on with it. If you dropped it you could get CJ and SJ, with the added bonus of not anoying those around you when you fire off IR
  2. My view is that 'the bigger the PuG gets the lower the rep should go.'

Which tends to be the opposite to SG teams.

Let me try to explain....in many PuGs only half the team bother looking at each others powersets, the half that aren't as informed tend not to get the team tactics 'right'. Also when you play with a team of people you don't know there does tend to be a 'lot' of hanging about wondering if it's ok to carry on while someone is AFK. It's issues like this a good leader will overcome whereas a poor leader will only inspire threads like this.

i did remember reading something about this on the US forum from Sunstorm, i think he meant to be the Base guy redname and he was looking into the future about in improving rent

    Issue 13 Base Q&A

    [/ QUOTE ]

I guess the answer is then that they are keeping the mechanism in-game and live until they decide the 'direction' of bases. If they had taken base rent out altoether then folk may have moaned if 'in the future' they put it back again.

Side note, hope I'm not the only one who smiled when I saw mention of CoP - WooT!

Currently, I'm just soloing a few flashbacks to play low level content that I've never played before on my character

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm about to start that too - the lack of gold stars on the Ouroboros mission list challenges me

    [/ QUOTE ]

GG was PLed you say? Shocker!

OT - I like merits, if only purely for the fact that it has fixed the terrible TF reward system - as for getting merits for story arcs, personally I don't see the fuss. Can't remember anyone complaining before i13 that only the arc owner was getting a DO/SO drop of choice.

One problem with merits I'm having is that, if like me you want to buy something with them specific, then you have to collect them on one toon as they are not transferable. This seems to be conflicting with the day jobs for me (because I play my main badger 'a lot').
  5. The subtle difference in chosen sets and builds combined with the players own style make controllers the most fun AT imo.

As for 'Superteaming', I too am a fan of 'same set/build' groups, purely for the reason that if 1 or 2 of your 'normal' team don't turn up you are mostly 'as effective'. If, for example, your team is dependant on getting SB from a kin then without him/her your superteaming experience might become stayed or jaded.

It's with this in mind that I think one of the top buffs in the game (if not the best) is AM, made even more special by multiple applications.

I've been in many amazing teams in the years I've played, that have the right 'big team' ATs and sets. Teams like these move fast and have no apparent weakness.

From time to time I've been in all-trolley teams, these usually run faster than the 'traditional' aforementioned team however due to their usual 'random' mix of sets can struggle with some of the harder foes, thinking AVs in particular.

Finally comes the fire/rad superteam, people usually miss it's beauty. Forget the numbers for a moment.......the reason I love this combo (be it solo, teamed or superteamed) is this simple.......all your powers are either foe targeted or AoE buff. This is what makes it the best suited for the fastest levelling (outside bridged pling) I think you'll find in the game.

I have lots of other views on fire/rads but will stop there for now.
  6. I always thought procs in toggle powers 'ticked' every 10.3 seconds. Although it's still early. *yawn*

My controller has them in all her primaries. They are much better than IOs for getting the holds on, no other secondary effects, but that's no bother.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Interested in hearing how you figure that? Granted you'll get more acc/mez if you slot just for that with 3 slots or whatever...but why would anyone just slot for acc and mez?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Maybe a team based toon, happy to mez while others do the damage? Or needs to save slots for her secondry powers?

IMO if slotting's not too much of an issue then HOs compliment set IOs. Where slots ARE short on a build then HOs can really save your bacon (i.e. 3 Enzyme HOs in Radiation infection)
  8. Come come Princey - that's half an hours farming for you.

Merging servers is bad IMO, merging regions would be fairly palatable.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Totally agree with this, the levels of player 'upset' involved with merging servers and the human administration cost for the devs to complete it would be too high.

    Level 52 HamiOs?

Did I dream it or were 51 and 52s awarded for toons in a pre-i9 hammi raid who were not yet level 50?

    Level 52 HamiOs?

    [ QUOTE ]

True, but last I heard, at least you now get the correct double Hami inf-rate if you leave it outside of a respec.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Never thought the inf offered for HOs was much 'cop' - and I'd feel dirty trading one in to be 'lost' for all time. Poor little HammiO, there there it's ok....

    Anyone know King of Toys?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Remember seeing that person loads in RV when i used to be on defiant, was always a pleasure facing him (and loosing, although i highly doubt he remembers me).

I cant really remember the name of the person, but was leader of the supergroup "ultraviolet", introduced me to pvp and was always organising teams/events and helping us new players out. Was a pleasure and an honour to be part of that supergroup (not even sure if its still around its been that long since iv been on defiant).

    [/ QUOTE ]

King of toys was the nicest pvper I've met.

As for UltraViolet, it's still about, the orginal leader CatViolet and her friends moved off onto another game but super silly STFs still run from time to time as we try and beat our own server record of 49 mins.

Sadly when she left the leaders status took a 'long' time to transfer to a regular player, which is partly why it looked dead for so long.

If you are still not bored with this after 15 lvls you get a cookie

    [/ QUOTE ]

Deleted mine the other week after 32 levels - 2 cookies for the effort?
  15. Had it on my ill/sonic when it did KB - when used after PBU they flew so far away I had to activate my travel power to go slap em.

Was great for debuffs though even though I don't play it anymore.
  16. Rad infection and Choking Cloud are made for each other, especially since RI has delayed aggro. If for whatever reason you don't have flashfire or cinders ready RI is a good opener, puller and even herder.

    Level 52 HamiOs?

If you want to feel the effect of a level 51 or 52 HO/SHO you can combine them in the same way as normal SOs. So no it's not an exploit.

    Warnings;
Combining a 50 HO with either another 50 HO/SHO is 100% gonna work, but watch out when you wanna then combine your 50+ (ie 51) HO with another. The times I've done it it has worked but there is that moment when 95% chance of success makes yer bum twitch.
Also if you do combine HOs or any enhancements they can then not be traded in WWs.

    Defiant Legends

False Fiction --- ‘Legend’ despite his dirty obsession with storm toons.

Bigge --- ‘Legend’ despite his dirty obsession of going AFK when the boss walks in.

Princey --- ‘Legend’ despite his many dirty obsessions with Farming, PLing, PvPing and playing on the US servers.

With any luck what with the bye out of the IP rights by plaync, the creation of the new studio dedicated CoH, and the hiring of new staff I'm hoping they'll get back to there (very ruffly) 4 issues a year (it was 4 wasn't it?)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Don't want to suggest that my opinion is fact only that this is the feeling I currently have; Since the CoX dev team got bigger, the issues have got slower.

    [ QUOTE ]

I think initially it was 4 per year, which became 3 when viewed realistically.

I'm not entirely sure what more can be added to make an issue any bigger. Okay they initially had the Architect in there, but even without it we have: a heap of new costumes; 2 new powersets; 2 entirely new reward systems; a completely new team dynamic; fundamental changes to PvP (which, through feedback, has resulted in a new defense concept) and base recosting, plus the much needed unshackling of the Base Editor. Not to mention: numerous QoL features, UI changes and more missions.

I'd say it's pretty big myself. Cant wait to see what they load into I14.

    [/ QUOTE ]

To me, I'd rather they didn't plan to pack 100s of things into an issue. If they had made issue 13 just the new reward merit system plus a couple of fixes that would be fine for me, because I expect that we could have had it early summer, sure some folk would have been a little upset with the lack of new content but development could continue in the background for a small i14 content update in the late summer, which might mean that we were now waiting for i15 with maybe the pvp changes.

My point is if one issue is too big it tends to marred by it's worst part(s) and thus some subs are canceled. Make em small but fast, if one issue proves really unpopular (i.e. because of it's pvp changes) then folk might be a little more forgiving because it was surrounded by other issues that did deliver what that individual player wanted.
  20. From my point of view I don't expect to get anything too much from MA. So I'd rather see a change in direction with respect to issue release to the current system;

Less content per issue and more issues per year.

I can only qualify this because the expectation of many of the recent issues has left some players ultimately disappointed after such a long wait.

If each issue is limited in size then if you don't like one it will not be such a bitter pill to wait for the next in a couple of months. Whereas I can't help but remembering that 'i13 was going to be huge' they said before the launch of i12. It's mid-November and i13 is not huge AND it's still not live.

All service providers have to manage their client’s expectations properly to continue to serve. I'm pretty sure the last quarters 'apparent' drop in numbers is a direct result of i13's tardiness.

Sorry if this has already been said - didn't have the time to read whole thread.
  21. Just going back to merits for story arcs a moment, this is one experience of the game that makes me smile whenever I see it;

I'm in a team, be it PuG or friends, and someone in the team has or gets one of my fave missions in the whole game from Buck Salinger - 'Stop takeover of Salamanca' (the one where you have to rescue and lead out 3 hotages and defeat the hordes or red caps to save the day) - it just makes me feel heroic OK.

Anyway, after rounds of "GJ" and "well done team" we all exit. 5 to 10 seconds later the arc owner suddenly levels! He/she has called the contact and got the 'Massive' xp arc bonus.

In all the times I've seen this happen I've never heard a disgruntled comment about it being unfair - not once.

It's my opinion that stroy arc owners rewards are just a 'bolt-on' to the thing that really needed reworking which was the trail/TF reward system.

Seems to me that the devs have, for the most part, not changed the dynamics of offering rewards. It appears that whereever you were being offered a choice of reward before you are again.

I understand where folk are coming from with the whole 'It's unfair' talk, but arc owners are once again being rewarded for helping their contacts with something useful. Before inventions I found the limited choice of SO/DO really useful, we didn't have endless inf as we do today, heck AV drops were a godsend. There was never-ever (in any team I played in) talk of 'unfair' that someone got an SO for their trouble.

What I like about this new system is that it would seem to encourage less farming of 'same' missions and more 'farming' of the best things this game has to offer which imo are the trials and TFs. Nice to see that the devs have had good sense to widen this system to compliment other 'lesser' rewards with a cutdown version of the same thing.
  22. So after 2 and a half years (ish) of playing I finally got a 'stand up and take a battering' tank to 50 the other day.

Then is struck me that one group of mobs just wasn't enough, I wanted their attention in ever increasing numbers, I wanted to share Mr. 'Foot Stomp' with as many bad guys as possible.......(pops calm insp)

So I got to dreaming of the days before my time where there wasn't an aggro cap of 17 mobs and thought wouldn't it be nice if for just 'one night only' - the sky's the limit.

What would your 'for one night only' be? (Clean AND within CoX)

Our SG has a huge base, a few months ago, after i12 broke the maze, I spent a couple of weeks totally rebuilding it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Know the feeling. We have a huge base too (and that a base can hold infinite amount of items is not advisable to try ) last halloween we tried to upgrade our base (again) and our Architect made some pretty nifty rooms. The entire base (we have also dubbed it "The Maze") went poof 5 times.

Oh well guess our architects wont mind that refund thing and let the base stand.
Our wish though is more choice of items we can place. So unless the Devs gives us more items I doubt "the maze" will get a revamp due to the refund.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No really - we litterally have a maze in a 'great room', not sure what other folks rent is but 200K every couple of weeks is pretty steep IMO. That's beside the point - to plan and build a maze or any large/complicated structure takes time and effort, would be a shame for potential 'raidable' bases to be gutted for the reward say of advancing in the SG rankings.

We are fortunate enough to have everything we want out of our base and the prestiege to pay the rent for a long time to come - therefore the only real reason we earn prestiege these days is to try and advance our rank

Lets hope the devs see the light and reconsider - bases need more love not less!
