I13 Dual Build Suggestion

Not sure if this is in the right forum, if its not feel free to move it

I haven't been on the training room much this session but I've had an idea for the dual builds that are coming with I13

Now some people are going to have 2 different builds for various reasons Lvling, TF/SF, Teaming, PVP and general farming.

My suggestion is that if possible, mainly because not everyone's gonna remember what each build does, give us the option to give our builds names or just have a set selection in a drop down box to choose from.

Not a bad idea actually. If not done so allready.

As it stands on test, when picking from your two builds the listed options are 'Select build one' and 'Select build two' or words to that effect. You can only choose the build you're not using, so why would one need to name them?

To halp you remember which is which.

I really should do something about this signature.

The kind of depressing thing here is that I can see Hairy's point (Ooo err, maitron) and there being just the two builds if you can't remember what they're for that's pretty week. Despite this, it's logically easier to actually allow the naming of, whereas some nice name for costume slots would likely be harder, but far more useful.

I think the biggest "forgetting" issue might be which build you have active when you log on.

So open your enhancement/power management window.

Then you have to spend time checking out your build. Much easier to just see the title of the build. Would be irritating to be in a tf and then find out you are on PvP not TF mode.

Not to mention those with altism like me. Remembering builds for a few toons np. Remember em all is a different cup of tea though.

It's rather a shame you can't Add Note to your own character, really. But yes, a message saying whether you're on Build 1 or Build 2 (or a nice name) would be a good idea. Maybe there is one, I haven't checked.

Ravens, you can indeed add a note to yourself. Click your charname in the chatwindow after dropping any old message, and you can pick ignore, send message, add note and so forth. The problem is that the function covers global details, not individual characters.

Spade, looking at your power slotting window is often quicker than travelling to a trainer, especially if you add the management window to a keystroke in the keybinds option menu.

Found that out the hard way, which is why I annotate notes with the character name. Thanks though, that could come in very useful.

Email your character.

Out of interest, how? Presumably the second build won't look like the first, or you wouldn't have bothered.

Oh and Princey, I forgot to say, you won't find a piece of SO'd cack (whatever that means) because every slot will be empty... in effect, you have to reselect powers and slots as if you're doing a respec the first time you change your build.

Minor correction. It's more like the times on Test where they let you create a level X character rather than a level 1. You go to the trainer, and click to level up lots of times rather than going through a respec-like procedure. And, your hero is effectively a level 1 character when you first switch).

SO - do you get the option of using your currrent enhancements or do you have to make/buy new ones from scratch (is this a cynical excercise aimed at boosting the market)?

I shall speak more plainly, though I think this has been said several times now, and we should be onto the executing squad leaders phase.

When you first switch to the alternative build, you are given an entirely blank character, at level 0. No powers, no slots, no nothing. You are at a trainer. You start training your hero/villain up to whatever level your first build is at, including power and slot selection.

You then go obtain whatever enhancements you want in those slots.

Now, your 'use your existing enhancements' comment depends on what you mean. We can take it two ways:

1. You have the option to move your enhancements from one build to the other.
2. You have the option to duplicate enhancements from one build to the other.

I'm going to assume you think option 2 is a brilliant idea. Which means you have not considered what a wonderful mechanism that is for replicating free enhancements.

If you were actually thinking of option 1, that's actually an interesting suggestion, though since I suspect I know how they have implemented the build switch (roughly), it would also be a real pain to actually implement, and would likely have a horrible UI.

No, it isn't a 'cynical excercise aimed at boosting the market,' it's part of the attempt to boost PvP usage without destroying the market.

Or possibly:

3. Any enhancement used in one build can be "reused" in the second, assuming there's a suitable power to slot it in.

An enhancement used like that wouldn't be duplicated; there'd still only be the one enhancement that shows up in both builds, and if you respecced one of the builds and removed the enh it would also vanish from the other.

I can see the appeal of that at one level - for ATs where there would be a lot of power replication from build to build (blaster attacks, etc...) it would save a lot of effort.

On the other hand I suspect it'd involve an awful lot of coding; if you wanted a full blown implementation you'd need to make the "shared use" facility available every time you slotted a new enh. Not just when you levelled.
