  1. There are four Power Pools that are collectively known as the "Travel Powers". Most toons should choose at least one of these sets to use for general getting around. These are:

    Flight
    Teleportation
    Speed
    Leaping

The third power in each set is a main travel power. In order to get one of these powers, you need to be level 14, and you also need to have already taken one of the first two powers in the set. So, for example, if you want to take Fly as a travel power, you'll need to be level 14 and you'll have to already have taken either Hover or Air Superiority with one of your earlier power selections.

Which travel power will suit you best depends entirely on your preferences. Here's a very quick breakdown of each:

Flight -- Generally the easiest to use, and the safest. The main disadvantage is that it is not as fast as the other powers

Teleportation -- Very useful and fast when mastered, but also rather cumbersome to use. Many support-oriented characters like to take this power pool to get the "Teleport Friend" power, which has many uses.

Super Jump -- A good compromise between Flight and Super Speed. You can jump high enough to get to -most- places, and your travel speed is faster than Flight.

Super Speed -- Very fast, but no vertical movement. This is less of a handicap than it once was, as you can toggle on your jetpack if you come to an obstacle you can't easily get over or around. This also becomes easier to use the better you know the terrain in the various zones. Has the added benefit of giving the user a degree of Stealth when active.

    Hope that helps somewhat.
  2. In the long run, prices are more reflected in the general supply than in the specifics of individual pricing. By selling your salvage at less than the going rate (generally speaking) you are bringing salvage prices down.

By the same token, if you're purchasing salvage to make those recipes you keep, or if you're buying finished IOs from the market to use, then you're driving the price of salvage up by increasing demand.

If you look beyond the short term fluctuations, it really boils down to very very basic economics. If your characters are consuming more salvage from the market pool than they're contributing, then they are contributing to higher prices. If you're feeding more salvage (or recipes, or whatever) into the market than you're pulling out, your characters are lowering prices.
  3. I skipped it. I can see the rationale for taking it, but I didn't want to give up anything else just to have it for those rare occasions.
  4. Positron's TF isn't particularly good for scrappers, because they usually lose so much to the auto-exemp. Blasters are probably better for it, as firepower at range usually wins the day, particularly against all those Vahzilok. My best toon at soloing Posi, back when I was into that, was a Peacebringer, though I've heard that purpled out Fire blasters were even better.

The few times I solo'd Posi with a scrapper, I found myself wishing I was running a different toon. I haven't tried any of the other 'real' tfs with a scrap. Not sure any of mine could solo the final AVs, though I haven't actually tried.

Hmm... wonder if my BS/SD would be up to it?...
  5. Maybe this thread has increased the Bling Factor for owning Circuit Boards?... I dunno. Blueside this morning there were only maybe a half dozen for sale, with thousands of bids and prices sky-high.

Minute to minute, the market is wierd. But over time, everything works out.
  6. [ QUOTE ]
while we are on the subject of the pwb... what do you do with it once you actually get it? I am working on getting mine now... only because it is there... but I mean by the time you make the 500 enhancements to get it I am at a lost to its real purpose...
    I can build in base
    Univ right next to WW
It only works for 5 min an hour
Most of the things it makes I dont use anymore

Can someone tell me what this thing does that I am missing?

    [/ QUOTE ]

If I'm crafting and selling IOs, for example, it's a substantial time saver.

I log the toon in (in WWs)
Collect my inf for sold IOs.
Grab my purchased Salvage and/or recipes
    Summon Portable Workbench
Craft more IOs, put them directly on the market
Place bids for more salvage and/or recipes
    Log out.

The whole thing takes less than 5 minutes. Even working in Steel Canyon, with the University close at hand, the shuttle back and forth to the market adds a considerable chunk of time to that 5 minutes, especially when it means two or three trips. Running to my SG base takes even longer. If I want to craft in KR or somewhere else where it isn't crowded, the table can cut my crafting time in half. That matters when I'm cycling through several toons, and what I really want to do is get on to whichever toon I'm actually -playing- instead of just marketeering with.
  7. [ QUOTE ]
I found base storage to be crucial. There really aren't enough slots on the market (and in your tray) to sell IO's, buy recipes and salvage, and hold leftovers that you don't want to sell yet. Short-term storage is a savior.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Agreed. When I'm working through recipes to get the field crafter, the last thing I want to do is stop and wait for those 11 level 30 Damage IOs (or whatever) to sell, so I can open up my market slots. I need those market slots to get salvage with. Dropping the profitable, but "no time to deal with them now" IOs into short term storage in a base really speeds things up.

Fewer trips back and forth from the market to the crafting tables, too, as I can carry enough salvage for more than 10 IOs at a time.
  8. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]

Other way around. The graphic follows, but the intractable part invisibly stays where it was. Still broken, there attempt to fix it only broke it worse (The table wouldn't appear at all, but the power would be spent!)

    [/ QUOTE ]

So you are saying the graphic IS supposed to follow you? How do you get it to move? The few times I tried, like I said, I ran off and watched it and it moved what be equivalent to 2 toon steps and then stopped. I guess if the clicky part stays where it is, you wouldn't want it move around and follow unless you knew the exact spot to click the invisible interaction hand thing. Thanks for the infos.

    [/ QUOTE ]

As others said above, the graphic is broke. I've never seen it 'follow' me like a proper pet, but I have activated it in WWs, crafted a couple of things on it, then run to the SG base portal and noticed it appear right beside me. But I can't click on it when it does that.

Basically, If I want to use it, I summon it and stay still until I've done all the crafting I need to do with it, or until it explodes. I figure once I move, it's essentially a ghost that I can't use.

I also didn't intend my little two sentence post to generate controversy. But I guess people will jump on you for anything in these forums, even when you're right.

[/ QUOTE ] Well you did say "They usually give them out..." which makes it sound like it was some kind of a trend.. which it isn't. But that's not a big deal. I was mainly referring to Golden_Avariel's post anyway...

He mentioned getting 4 separate free sessions granted during this year's holiday season, which was also wrong. I didn't mean to imply that YOU implied the free session at Valentines.. Golden_Avariel's made a personal interpretation of your post, to which I was originally replying to... not yours directly.

The only reason I quoted your last post was because the link you provided supported what I had previously said. I wasn't trying to argue with your two sentence post.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I've got no beef with you, Mateo6. Sorry if it sounded that way. My beef is with people who flat out say that I am "wrong" about something when I am in fact "right", as another certain party has done twice to me in two different threads in the last week.

But I still maintain that we "usually" get a free costume token during the holiday season. Looking back through the Announcements section of these boards, costume tokens were awarded:

    11/30/07
    Shortly after 11/28/06
and "soon" "once a bug fix is ready" according to a moderator post on 11/07/2005

That seems pretty consistent to me.
  10. [ QUOTE ]
Like I said above.. that was 2 weeks after i13 came out..

I guess I was wrong to assume it was related to any costume bugs, but maybe because so many people were wondering where their freespecs were after i13, the Devs wrapped it all up into a holiday gift to make people happy.

Either way, that's still only one free session for that time period.. just like I said.

And I still don't think we got one on Valentine's this year either. Maybe last year when the Wedding Pack was released... I'm not quite sure.

Also, I think I can safely guess we'll be getting another one soon.. seeing how they are adding about 20 new character faces, and a couple more costume themes with i15.

    [/ QUOTE ]

To clarify, I never said the tokens were specifically part of the Winter event. I said "at holiday-time". For most purposes "at holiday-time" means roughly the stretch from Thanksgiving to New Year's Day, including Christmas, Kwanzaa (sp?) Hanuka (again, sp?) the Winter Solstice, and New Years. My original post:

    [ QUOTE ]
iirc, they last gave free costume tokens at holiday-time. They usually give them out then so people can make costumes using the Santa hat, etc.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't believe there was a costume token given around the Valentine's event... I don't remember one, and I didn't find any evidence that the devs handed one out. I didn't intend to suggest that with my earlier post at all.

I also didn't intend my little two sentence post to generate controversy. But I guess people will jump on you for anything in these forums, even when you're right.

    [ QUOTE ]
No, he means there was a free costume token handed out to everyone during the Christmas and Valentines events. It wasn't part of a mission or something.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I know what he meant, but he's wrong. If the Tailor tokens were given as part of the event they would be listed in the event details on Paragonwiki. There are no Tailor tokens listed as a bonus for any of the past events.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    No, Blackavaar... YOU are wrong.

    Link to announcement.

  13. Gratz!

Edit to add: I think I'm actually using "flipping" in the wrong context here. I buy recipes, craft them and sell them. Whatever the word for that is, that's why I do.

    [/ QUOTE ]
We totally need a word for this...half crafting, half flipping....flifting? crapping? "I crapped a Postiron's Blast proc for 6m profit this morning!"

    [/ QUOTE ]

I just call it crafting. In EQ people would buy supplies off the lowbies, craft them, then sell the finished products and this is no different other than the end buyer could have done it themselves because we have no chance to fail at crafting.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I've always thought of this process -- Buy recipe, buy salvage, make the IO, sell the IO for substantial profit -- as "Manufacturing".

That is, after all, what manufacturers do in the real world. Buy raw materials, acquire a design, follow the design and sell the finished product.

"Flipping" is really just retailing. Buying stuff wholesale for cheap and keeping it in inventory until you can sell it for whatever price the market will bear. It's no different from what every store in your local shopping mall is doing. The customer pays for the convenience of the merchandise being available where and when they want it. The merchant profits by buying things he doesn't need, storing them until someone else needs them, then selling them for a profit.
  15. [ QUOTE ]
Generally, my schemes involve fast-moving inventory rather than slow-moving, which means less profit per sale but more of them to compensate.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm the same way. I prefer something where I can keep stock moving through. Then, if and when the niche dries up, I've already made back my initial investment, so I can just wait it out. The peaks and valleys just aren't as far apart. I was selling one type of IO for 15M, and probably selling one or two a day for a couple of weeks. I tried to keep three of them on the market at a time. Then the niche suddenly dried up and they started going for 5 or 6M apiece. I just left the three I had on the market up, and a week or so later they finally sold and I went back to business as usual.

Working 3 or four recipes that way, I pretty much always had *something* selling.

Removing money from the game helps keep inflation down.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Good answer, but I haven't needed to pay a tailor in a long time - vet rewards and such.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Back in the day, when there was no market and there were no IOs to spend ridiculous amount of influence on, the Tailor was about the only place where a high-level character *could* make use of their ever-increasing wealth.

Nowadays, with more useful things for players to spend inf on, there's no real reason for the devs to be stingy with free costume changes. After all, cool costumes keep people happy, and they want the players to make use of the new art content anyway. So the Tailor's role as an inf sink is pretty much obsolete.

Of course, they can't just make it free to change costumes... not now. Because that would make everyone's free costume change tokens worthless, and they'd have to come up with new vet rewards.
  17. Basically, find your market niche or niches that you're comfortable in, and get to it. Once you've got enough of a bankroll, lay down a few lowball long-term bids on some of the purples you want. Do your research. Get an idea of the lows and highs for various recipes and aim for a low end steal. Having a long-term plan is much to your advantage.

It can also be to your advantage to use multiple toons (if you aren't already), particulary for your longshot bids, so you're not tying up slots in your main marketer. Having several 'main' marketers is even better, but takes more time and for me it got pretty tiresome logging in multiple toons just for markets. I ended up mostly going with two, but hey, more is better if you're up to it.

Whether or not 1B will get you your purples depends largely on the purples you're trying to get. Some of the more popular sets will run you more than 500M, even with low end bids.
  18. I only look at a few items. It's a big market, and I don't need to siphon all of it. I pick a few things that go reliably, with a relatively high volume (high volume means different things at different price points). Anything more involved than that would take more time and effort than I'm willing to devote to it.

I might jot down some notes on a particular IO when I first look at it as a possibility, but once it's into my rotation I have my price points memorized. I'm very good with numbers anyway, so I'm doing rough profit estimates in my head as I go.

    Galaxy Question

Galaxy City has always been a redundant zone, sort of a spare Atlas Park to siphon off some of the load from the original. Consequently, just about everything there is like a poor knock-off of AP... functional, less traffic, but not quite as useful.

The exception to that being the arena, Galaxy City's one perk. Before WWs, at least, it was the only good place to buy insps if you were on a TF. That, and the one plaque there for the Atlas Medallion, are about the only reasons I go into Galaxy any more... Oh, and respecs... Let's not forget the repec contact lives there (Jack Wolfe??... is that the guy's name? You can see how famous he is.)
  20. I've used the market to make inf for as long as there's been a market. Primarily, I make enhancements and sell them. I had my 'Crafting Toon' who made tons of generics, sold them at a profit, and pretty much bankrolled the rest of my toons. I'm sure I'd made over a billion, but I'd never had much inf on hand at any one time. I'd make enough to buy whatever I wanted, then I'd go beat up villains with my new stuff. I don't play my 50s much, so I never needed big money to buy purples with. So yeah... I was as rich as I needed to be.

But shortly before I14 came out, I decided to get a Billion inf, just for something different to do. I originally planned to do it entirely by selling generic enhancements from my crafter... I was in no hurry... but after a couple of weeks I got my Field Crafter on a second toon, and after she accumulated 100M or so from selling generic enhancements, she moved on to a small selection of more... specialized goods. It was kind of amazing how much faster it went after that.

I didn't transfer any inf between characters to do this. I kept the first toon working on generics, and she's somewhere around 650M now. But she was at about 400 when this one was at 200, and working in pricier stock, this toon just blew past her to 1B. I knew it wasn't going to be hard, but I really didn't realize just HOW easy it would be.

    Here's the photo:
Glacia Kindle, Billionaire. She owns a mansion und a yacht.
Note: This was achieved ENTIRELY through buying recipes (or memorizing them), buying salvage, manufacturing IOs and selling them for a profit. Her net worth passed 1B some time ago, but a lot of that was tied up in bids, recipes, and unsold IOs. Just today did she top the 1B inf on hand mark, though she probably has another 1/2 Billion in current inventory.

So that's done. I'm not sure if I'll keep at it now that I've reached my goal. Like I said, I don't play my 50s much, and they do fine without purples anyway. I've certainly got enough on hand to buy anything and everything any of my lowbie toons are ever gonna need.

So it was fun. Not hard. I'm trying to get used to the idea that I'm now officially Ebil.

Edit: I may be ebil, but I'm having a heck of a time getting the image, or the link to the image to work... I'll try again.

Additionally, I am somewhat (not perfectly sure) that your Cap Broker will introduce you to Wheeler if you have outleveled Themari at 16. Either that, or the Broker will still introduce Themari, and he will intro Wheeler but won't give you any missions.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Nope, the Broker will not introduce Willy and will not introduce Themari if you are over 14. However, if you have outleveled Themari's arcs you can still get the introduction. Just go back to him after you pop a couple more levels and he'll have the intro ready for you. If you missed Themari entirely, you'll have to wait for Ouro level to do Willy's stuff.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm quite confident this isn't the case. I have done Willy's missions with every villain I've played, and I've only done Themari's missions once. I didn't like his missions, and so I leave him since I hit level 15 easily enough without doing his stuff anyway.
  22. I paid 200K for a circuit board this morning, and it wasn't even an accident. I just happened to need one for a recipe at a time when the going price was at one of its peaks, and I didn't feel like waiting. I did try a couple of lower bids... 20K and 50K... and they were all sold out. So I finally said 'to heck with it' and went to 200K.

But 5M? Yeah, that's a lot. Hope that circuit board came with a coupon for a free pizza or something.
  23. If you run out of contacts in a zone, you can do another batch of newspaper missions for your contact (Drea) and he'll give you another new contact to work with. With villains, you'll sometimes have to do two or three bank robberies to get all the contacts in a zone.

However, if you're level 12, you've already outleveled the other two contacts that Drea would give you -- Billy Heck and Mr. Bocor. There is another contact in Port Oakes who is in your level range "The Radio", but I'm not sure if Drea can introduce you to it or not. Usually you'll get that contact from Mr. Bocor, assuming you've done his missions.

So yeah, your best bet is to go to Cap Au Diable, and run newspaper missions for Desdemona the Glint or Boris the Russian. There are lots of contacts in Cap until you hit level 20, so if you ever run out, just run more newspaper missions and do another bank job and your contact will give you someone new to talk to.
  24. WIth a /Shield scrapper, you will probably want to prioritize sets which give a bonus to your positional defenses, ie.. Ranged, AOE, and Melee defense. In terms of your survivability, these will have the biggest impact. Your goal, if you check your defense ratings in your Combat Attributes tab, is to get all three of these defense areas up to 45%+. 45% is the 'soft cap' for defense. Without getting too deeply into the numbers on how defense works, getting to 45% is what we call "Good".

AOE Attack Sets to look at:
Multi-Strike -- Usually available and affordable. Isn't great on recharge, but it's adequate.

Scirocco's Dervish -- More expensive, but generally a better set. Usually you'll want to 5-slot this and use the last slot to shore up whatever element of the power you want to emphasize.

Obliteration -- If you've got the inf, it's got awesome set bonuses, and great recharge. But it'll cost ya.

Melee attack sets to look at:
Touch of Death -- Only goes up to level 40, but that's really plenty. Gives good bonuses and boosts melee defense. Can be pricey.

Crushing Impact - Very popular. Gives good numbers, but doesn't help your defenses. Does help recharge, which is always nice.

Mako's Bite - similar to TOD in pricey-ness. Gives ranged defense. Goes all the way up to Level 50.

Other sets that give good bonuses:
Peformance Shifter -- You can get much of this set for fairly cheap. The last couple of IOs will cost you, though.

Gaussian's Fire Control -- If you take the Leadership toggle 'Tactics' or 'Focused Accuracy' from the epic power pools after level 40, this is a great set to slot in that power. A full set boosts your defense in all three areas by 2.5% and gives other great bonuses as well.

There are lots of other sets, but these are a few suggestions, at least.

Beyond sets, There is one single enhancement you want to be sure you get, and probably slot into True Grit, and that's Steadfast Protection: Resistance/Defense. It boosts your defense to all three areas by 3%. That's HUGE.

For more complete info, check out the Scrapper forums on these boards. Lots of good help available there, and lots of people post their builds, which would let you see what other Dk/Shd scrappers are already using in the way of IOs.
  25. Having a similar problem, just started maybe an hour or two ago. The same character had gone in and out of the base several times. Now, I click on a portal and the load screen comes up and just sits there. The progress bar never moves.

This is happening for me redside, on Guardian. Base maintenance hadn't been paid, but I have since logged on a different toon and paid it, and still no improvement.

I've tried entering the base from Port Oakes, from Cap, and using the personal base transporter power. Same result each time. I've eventually had to give up and 3-finger salute to get out of the program.

Fwiw, I'm running under XP. And like the OP, no base changes or edits, though I did use the enhancement tables and the enhancement workstation, and also personal and base salvage storage, I think.
