Sonic Resonance gives you some personal survivability via Dispersion, the ability to transmute matter through all the +Res and -Res you're throwing around, and Energy Blasts are just cosmic, nuff said. Plus all the Aegis sets give you the big Fire/Cold/AoE defence necessary to survivie in space

Conceptually one of the more powerful characters I've made, but an incredibly poor solo-er. This still felt right though.
    I like that idea!
  2. I forget where but I did see a thread about shapeshifters a few months back.

I have a friend with a werewolf. Sonic/Traps Corrupter. In human form (scientist) only uses traps. In wolf form only sonics. Actually works out just fine from a play perspective and is a very colorful character.

That way, if you're only affecting yourself, the endurance cost is low(er) ... and if you're buffing an entire Team-8 then the endurance cost is the same as what we've got right now on Live.

Err, you are aware this power effects up to 255 people right? Think for a moment what happens in a mothership or hami raid. Extremely bad idea.

Second ... make the power have both a self-only and a PBAoE buff component to it. The PBAoE will maintain the exact same values as what we see now on Live. The self-only value would also be the exact same values as what we see now on Live.

Net result: the player with Maneuvers gets "double value" from Maneuvers at all times ... once from the PBAoE and once from the self only. Such an arrangement makes Maneuvers "valuable" even in solo play, while at the same time preventing the Team Buff from becoming "too large" and unbalancing in Team-8 play.

    ... not being done.
Neither is being done because both would be completely against the purpose of the power. Maneuvers is not "Weave plus" it is a team version of weave. If you double'd maneuers it would, for one pick, be better than the premier power of the fighting pool, and if you were solo, based on your first request, probably cost less end also. Totally broken and totally missing the point of the power.

Compare it to force field generator or dispersion field. It is a very decent power, and works just fine as it is. All the leadership toggles are slightly end heavy, but I think that is ok for the power they bring when stacked.
  4. I like using level 15+ Def/End IOs myself.
  5. I farm with friends because while I value the drops, I am more interested in having fun, and farming solo feels grindy. Joking and goofing around definitely cuts into profits, and I don't run at top efficiency anyway, but it does make the experience a LOT more enjoyable.

and, honestly, I have enough money without farming anyhow. It's all just gravy.

What do you recommend in terms of slotting DP?
  7. The original policy was after a while names were unlocked and if a new person created the same character on the same server you lost the name. Over time they protected most characters. I think only those under level 5 or something like that are vulnerable now. And if no one else made such a character, you'd be fine anyhow.

The vet powers are totally worth it, so are the vet costume pieces. I would re-instate your old account if I were you.
  8. My solution was to do both. Aim for either S/L or Melee defense of 30+, and then pack as much recharge as you can.
  9. Your key powers are deflection and battle agility. Phalanx fighting is a small defense buff as well. Be sure to put several slots into each of those powers and you should be doing fine.

If you want more then look into the pools. Maneuvers, Weave, and Combat jumping are all common sources of additional defense.

In the DOs, if you right click on them it will tell you what they do. You want to look for a purple one with a shield int he middle.

  11. True enough on the recharge. Also, most Warshades pack a ton of global recharge.
  12. It will depend on which AV you choose, but over in the blaster forums Silverado has taken a few of them down, so I know dom's can do it too.
  13. So, the issue isn't 100% gone at this point. Here are a few more fun visuals from a recent trip to the Port Oaks black market:

I'm the sideways car, the nearby Arachnos agent is disguised as an office building.

Haha Shady Ciaran has a truck for a head

    This is really confusing

Noooo some horrible villain stole my butt! = o.O =
  14. Looks like Warshades in addition to losing global recharge, lose ALL recharge.

I've always thought it was a shame there isn't a single Acc/Slow/Rech or Acc/End/Rech among the slow sets.

Making the Widows Mutation is an interesting take on it. Technically you have to be born a mutant, but I think the concept is that Widows have the talent and the training brings it out right?

    Interesting thought on that one.

Just to clarify, -def doesn't help you at all with the fact you deal lethal damage. You want -res for that.

On the positive side, it does mean you can slot the achilles heel proc.
  17. If all you care about are purples, then find a mission crammed with enemies that are weak to the sort of damage you deal and run it at -1/x8.

If you care about the other drops as well, then run at 0/x8.

All else is a fiddly detail that depends on your character, your goals, and what you enjoy. Also, it matters if you are red or blue.
  18. Cheers to that team. Nice work!
  19. It's not my heros, but I will say that the new Dean McArthur arc villain side, when you capture Ajax, made me really unhappy as a player. My villains are happy to do it. I the player really respect Ajax for what he chose to do regarding Omega Team and screwing him over like that on his return is seriously not cool.

Also, it makes no sense. If he was in any way shape or form vulnerable to psionics, the rikti would have made him their bi$#& ten times over.

On the hero side, stories that I wonder about include the croatoa mission where you "analyze" ghosts (who are the victims of the Cabal) by obliterating them with a wand, or just punch them in the face. Plus, both the Tuatha and Fir Bolg have been pulled from the past, warped into monsters, and forced to slaughter each other. And instead of helping them, we punch them in the face over and over.
  20. Well, there are more parallel worlds with no Statesman than there are versions with Statesman:
Paragon Protector world, Werewolf World, Hydra World, Psychic Clockwork world, Nemesis victorious (then commits suicide) world, etc.

so the lack of Recluses overall doesn't really surprise me as much as it would otherwise.

It has also made me wonder if part of the reason he's having so much trouble with finding his desired ending for project destiny is that he is a universally doomed figure. Destined to fail and die in every possible world.
  21. Two years ago my roommate had two friends in the beta who kept pushing him to play, but his computer was too old to run the game, so they installed it on mine and he would borrow mine to play. I was interested and made a couple characters on his account. Then bought my own account and haven't looked back.

I keep trying to convert the masses. I'm not a very successful evangelist yet.

On those who don't know why it is not more popular, three main reasons:
    1. MMOs, being social, are almost a zero-sum game. Like Social networking sites. People play wow because their friends play wow. People use facebook over myspace for the same reason.
    2. Superhero games are a niche. They're not as popular as the pure sci-fi, or fantasy, or even war simulators. Everyone loves a superhero movie, so I'm a bit confused why more people aren't into the genre.
    3. Missing the meaningless fancy bits/shiny toys. Other games have voice acting, we have word bubbles (which I like because they are more in-character for the genre). Other games have custom maps/locations for all quests, we get semi-random not at all logical mazes. Other games have their equivalent of the "glowie" be custom created for each mission and incorporated logically into the setting. We have computer terminals standing in the hallway of an office or warehouse. Or a wall safe in a public room. Makes no logical sense. Easy to code, yes, but shiny and refined? Not so much.

Of the people who I got to try the game and then they stopped, those three reasons, (especially number 3) were the biggies why they quit. But all of them loved the character generator, loved the powers, loved the lack of grinding and loot-specific repetition, and they enjoyed the community.

Then they went back to their WoW guild, or eve-online coproration. Sigh.

When I compare, I have not found a City of supergroup that mandates a certain number of hours of hami raiding or you're kicked. Or a certain number of Purple IOs or you're kicked. Activity levels in general, like log in every month, yes. But that makes sense with the group size limitations. Gotta do something to fit in the active people. I have a lot more fun with the supergroups here. Awesome people overall.

I can't imagine what will take me away other than the game ending.

The reason for this is because lower level IO Set drops are gained piecemeal as everyone progresses through the game. ItÂ’s not until the post-50 game where IO Set drops start to accumulate that aren't necessarily needed, and end up on the Black Market. Despite the higher costs involved in buying/making them, they do tend to be more plentiful and can be easier to get (YMMV). By this time, you should have a decent amount of inf to use, even with the buying and crafting of Generic IOs for your powers. Even so, this will not be an overnight process, and filling out IO Sets will require patience. Craft the pieces as you get them and slot them as you wish.
Two comments here, relevant bits bolded above.

#1: When you slot really depends on your purpose. If you will exemplar down regularly for Oro missions and strike forces, then waiting until level 50 to slot a level 35 IO is, quite frankly, stupid and silly and wasteful. Second, the difference between a level 45 and a level 50 is in many cases nothing at all or so small as to make no difference. Slotting two level 45 recharges into haste instead of two 50s, you lose what, 1 second? Slotting a level 43 of a particularly expensive set (Obliteration for example) can save you over 10 million inf but you might have a trade off of losing, 2 to 5 points of damage on lightning rod's multi-hundred damage.

Level 50 IOs are popular because people don't realize they are insignificantly "better".

#2: Patently false. IOs are cheaper than SOs and sets are very often cheaper than common IOs. The trick is you gotta buy the junky ones. Look for cleaving blow and multistrike, not Eradication, Scirrocco, or Obliteration. Look for Pulverizing fisticuffs or Smashing Haymaker not Touch of Death or Kinetic Combat.

You can buy many "bad" set IOs for 5000, and often they have no rare salvage required. Making the crafting costs all but non-existent. Take a look, some of the less popular sets have 40+ for sale and no bids. low-level characters often buy these recipes and sell them to vendors for a profit. You can craft and use them to get a better return than a common IO for less INF.

The real numbers to keep in mind with IOs:

    Quote:
    Better than a +3 SO:
    Level 35/40 commons (35 are 1% lower, 40s are .4% higher)
    Level 24+ Duals (.1% better)
    Level 20+ Triples (.1% better)

    Better than a +3 DO:
    Level 15 Common (.2% better)
    Level 13 Dual (1.7% better)
    Level 11 Triple (.9% better)

    Cost:
SO for 1 slot of accuracy from level 22 through level 50: 260k
    Level 35 memorized accuracy: 33k + salvage
    Level 35 not-memorized: 61k + salvage
Level 24 dual set IO: 36k + salvage
Level 20 triple set IO: 34k + salvage

On the other hand, how much salvage would you have gotten along with them?

I'm thinking that this is why salvage is going up to 4 million for rares.
  24. To me, it is not about the number of missions, but total time to complete. One overland kill all is too many missions. five short click the glowie's might be not enough.
