Looking for Vidiotmaps Mac map overlay
Hmm. I went looking for it too, it appears to have been removed or relocated somewhere I can't find it.
I think my guide still has instructions for installing it the hard way.

Hi there. I went to your link for cuppamanga directions on how to do this manually.
I am running OS X 10.6.2. I follow the package contents down to the level you describe as the coh folder, and within that folder I do find the cohupdater.exe but not a "city of heroes" folder. Your instructions state to run the coh updater once to create the folder within that directory, however I am unable to successfully run the updater.
I have Crossover installed on my computer, but running cohupdater.exe in crossover does not appear to do anything. Launching the City of Heroes program does the normal update check prior to giving you the "next" button to continue into the city, however that also does not create a "city of heroes" folder in the "coh" folder within the package contents directory.
What else can I try?
4. Right-click the City of Heroes application and select "Show Package Contents". 5. Open the Contents, then Resources, then transgaming, then c_drive, then either "coh" or "Program Files" and then "City of Heroes". If there is no such folder, run the updater once to get it to create the folder. |
That variation seems to cause some unusual problems though, so the next version of my guide will recommend a repair procedure to fix it.

If it helps, I made a .zip of the VidiotMaps map files for a manual MAC install.
vm_mappack.zip
(Located: http://www.mediafire.com/Coolio)
I can't make a MAC installer, but all you would need to do is to extract the zip to the directory containing CityofHeroes.exe
And no I'm not ripping off VidiotMaps, as I state it is their version of the CoH maps but without the installer and uninstaller .exe's as these do not work on MAC's.

Hey everyone,
Yes, I pretty much removed the Mac installer, I had no way to update it as I don't have a Mac to do any testing. I had someone who was going to update the map pac for me, but I guess that fell through.
So if anyone here that happens to read this would like to hop aboard the train at Vidiotmaps and can update the Mac installer, you can simply send me a PM here on the boards or contact me at the badge-hunter forums.
But yes, because the Mac installer was so outdated, I removed it from the site. But I am very willing to put it back if I can get it updated.

Beef_Cake,
You don't really need an installer at all. If you just place a ZIP of the "data" folder content for download somewhere I'll write up instructions on how to install it.
P.S. Right now I usually just install it on a PC and then take the contents of the "data" folder and copy it to the Mac.

Any update on this?

Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.
If not a new mac installer, maybe an update to the .zip file to include the new issue 17 maps? I'd be perfectly happy to have the data to add to my mac without requiring the full-meal-deal installer.
Thanks, by the way, for making that last one available. That was a lifesaver for me, as my computer died and got replaced only after the mac installer was removed from the site....
I downloaded the new I17 mappack right off the vidiotmaps download page. It comes as an exe so you will need bootcamp/parallels running windows, or crossover to run the exe file and extract the folder with the new maps in it. I ran it in crossover and picked my desktop as the location for the files. You can do the same thing in bootcamp or parallels, there should be a location in network places for your mac desktop. Mine was in Start>My Network Places>.Mac on .psf>Users>(username)>Desktop. When you run the exe, there should be a folder named data placed on your desktop. Go to applications, control-click on City of Heroes and pick "show package contents". Now go to Contents>Resources>transgaming>c_drive>coh. There should be a folder there named data also. I deleted it and moved the new one from my desktop to the same location. New maps are now up in CoH for me. I got this info from CuppaManga's Mac guide published on this forum. Thanks Manga for all you do!
Dun have PC environment capable of running the exe. Any other way to get at the new files?

I dual boot Vista 64-bit and OS X on my MacBook Pro, so if someone still needs it done, I can zip up the latest data file and post a link to it. CuppaManga would have to handle instructions on how to install it, but I could certainly zip the latest edition up for whoever needs it for their Mac.

Good idea... Beef? Can we have your permission? I'm assuming you're one of the owners, because I have no idea who the owners are...
Probably depends on if he's still following this thread...

I asked Beef in the main badge forum's post about this. No reply yet. Maybe someone should PM him?

I would prefer to have it packed in a installer. and posted on my site for download. That way I can make sure it stays up to date with the PC version. Otherwise, no one will know when its been updated and we are back to the main reason why the Mac Map Pack isn;t on the site now due to it not being updated.

Couldn't there just be a date listed on the vidiotmaps site? Then that could get updated every time the zip file was updated? Or include a readme file in the zip file?
I just installed via the instructions in Cuppa's thread it was quick and easy for me. Even easier since I run vmware fusion so anything I save to the mac desktop goes to my win 7 desktop so I could extract the files and paste them in the correct spot.
*Looks at thread*
*pokes it with a stick*
So, anyone able and willing to make these usable for Mac users without a windows OS available Per Beef's conditions?

These are the i17 map files in a .zip
Just unzip into your City of Heroes/Data directory.

Ah. Thank you. Sometimes I can be an idiot, and reading your post I thought that you were saying someone needed to turn your files into an executable.
It's a bit obvious what you were saying, I just wasn't really seeing it. I blame society. It's always their fault. =)
Just to be 100% clear, straight into the main folder, not into any of the subfolders?

I've built a Mac installer, and sent it to Beef Cake, just waiting on him to post it, I'd link to it, but don't want to step on his toes, so to speak.

I've read that Vidiotmaps has a Mac installer for their map overlay but all I'm finding in their download section is the installer for Windows. Perhaps I'm being very dense and overlooking the obvious. Does it actually exist and if so, where?
