I'm Returning ....Do I reinstate my account or start anew?

I was convinced by a friend to return to COH. Since I couldn't get into my old account(I have no recollection of the username/password), and because I wanted to take advantage of the 14 day free trial, I am currently using the new trial account. I'm loving what I see, and how the game has evolved, and am planning on continuing the subscription.

I pre-ordered the game at release, and played for a year before retiring. I don't really have any characters of merit above 20th level or so, and I gather that I have lost any cool or interesting names that I had back at release. My only loss there is Shillelagh (I can't recall her AT) and Windrose, a grav/Storm controller(I think). I liked both of those names, but I'm guessing those are lost.

In any case, as my trial nears expiration, I'm wondering if it is worth a call to support to activate that old account, or if I should just stick with the new account. Does the old account have any intrinsic value, that I'm missing?

If you don't have any characters of merit above 20 then you probably don't have much influence you would want to transfer.

There is the intrinsic value of the veteran rewards you achieved from your first subscription. You should look up what veteran rewards you earned from your first subscription and make the calculation if those rewards are worth the trouble.

Well depending on how long your old account was active, you probably accummulated some time to count towards Veteran Rewards.

And you can harvest any Inf you had on your old characters. The in-game email system can now have attachments.

Teams are the number one killer of soloists.

Personally I'd talk to customer support and see if they can reinstate your account easily. If you remember the email address you used to register it, they can probably ask some identifying questions and take care of it. Shillelagh is a good name, I'd hate to see it go to waste.

But realistically, if you're not that invested in the old characters .... meh, up to you.

It was my understanding that at some point after I left, old unused names were wiped, and allowed to be re-used by active players. Is that not the case? If I were to access the account, and retain that name, I'd do it. I was making the assumption that the name Shillelagh was lost to me.

The original policy was after a while names were unlocked and if a new person created the same character on the same server you lost the name. Over time they protected most characters. I think only those under level 5 or something like that are vulnerable now. And if no one else made such a character, you'd be fine anyhow.

The vet powers are totally worth it, so are the vet costume pieces. I would re-instate your old account if I were you.

I can be found, outside of paragon city here.
Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.

I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the advice.
