Armageddon does over 100 fire damage when the proc fires (every third attack). Even a "normal" proc does 76.

The basic idea is that the base damage of the Power Set does not include Fire Damage. Assuming you could put a Chance to Energy Damage Proc in Fire Melee, that wouldn't make it Energy Melee. It still does primarily Fire and Lethal damage.
I understand but when I do an average of 30 fire damage per hit (100+ spread over 3 attacks for simplicity) on the attack of my choice, PLUS every minute I get all attacks to do a significant amount of fire damage added on and allowing me to exceed the damage cap... that's close enough for government work in my book.

Full disclosure: I do work with the government. Why this matters I do not know, but stock market people get to/have to say it so why shouldn't I?

Except that as far as I know, it is not currently possible to put an aura on a Broadsword or any other weapon model. Some of the weapon models have auras, but a "fire sword" would have to be a selectable option. I don't believe Fiery Embrace gives any kind of visual cue that it adds fire damage to attacks, either. (There are the typical red icons around your character, but your sword or fists don't burst into flame, do they?)
You are correct, and I am saddened by this fact everytime I use the power.

That's why I suggested IOs as an option and gave you a simple way to make the money fast. There are lots of ways to improve performance: Team and get buffs, slotting, power choices, personal experience/skill etc. I tried to help with slotting because I'm quite bad with builds and if you say the problem is that you don't have money then there is an easy fix for that.

I do what I put in my post in less than 10 minutes per play session right at the end. Teleport to market from wherever I am, buy a few bits of salvage to craft what dropped while playing run to the university, craft, run back, sell everything, buy new porter and log out.

Unless you want day job credit, then add self destruct or port to pocket D. =)

Many sub-par sets you can find the crafted recipe selling for less than the cost of the salvage. Which makes no sense because someone is losing money on that. But it still happens. I know because I vendor those recipes rather than craft them.

That said, I find the 20 million mark to be surprisingly low. A frankenslotted build yes, but Perma? Maybe frankensloteed with just the minimum needed to get recharge? I think it might be possible if you're careful. But I'd still love to see it.

Call it "fire slash, sweep your empty hand through the air and have a thin arc of fire trail. Could be cool.

Or punch with spears of fire surrounding your hand and piercing the target a little like impale's/archery's spines/arrows do but only melee range.

    fire claw

flame spike: punch and a pointy cone of fire forms along your arm, transfers to the target and explodes leaving the burning bits on the ground around them.

This is really easy folks, there are a million ways to do pointy or sharp flame animations.

The above suggests the "other side" of the argument, though. If you want to have a flaming sword, or an ice sword, what do you do, go to Broadsword? But a Broadsword attack HAS NO FIRE COMPONENT. Even if you put a fiery aura around it or make it out of fire, it will still do only lethal damage. It will not to DoT, either. It will be a "fire sword" in appearance only.
MY dual blade/fire armor character would like to disagree with you. Read the changes on fiery embrace. Also, check the Armageddon Proc.
  7. Well I'm not saying there is. But I'm not saying there isn't either.
  8. how does broadsword do for stalkers anyway? I know on scrappers it is the total suck barely above spines and electric for single target on bill's old list. And when I mean total suck, I mean the top BS attack chain came out 50 points lower than Fire/claws, etc up at the top.

Meanwhile Katana was brutal and is a very commonly chosen set for AV killing. So I'd be really surprised if broadsword was all that good for stalkers.

which makes me cry everytime I partner with my friends because my main is bs and they are katana and ninja blade.

Quick note, you'll do better using unusual pricing. Lots of lazy bidders and sellers use 11111 or 22222. If you sell at 10 and I sell at 11 you will win and I will lose. If you bid 12 and I bid 11, you will win and I will lose. It is a seemingly small thing, but kicks in plenty often.

as an option to hover, the tier-1 jet pack temp power only costs a pittance to craft (for some confusing reason it is listed in the middle on the auction house interface). This way you can use the strategy from level 2 onward and not use up a power pick. =)

Would this only be a 50 with IO sets completed that I can pull this off?
It is not so much that "only a 50 can pull this off" as it is that 50s make massively more income of any other level (there is actually a mechanic that nearly doubles your income from 49 to 50 when exp gets turned off). That said, right now any character over level 21 can run tip missions and earn stupidly high amounts of money.

If you are interested I direct you to the market forum, look for any posts about Alignment/Hero/Villain Merits (not Reward Merits). By "stupidly high" my rough estimate is something like 75 to 150 million inf every 2 days if you random roll, and a pretty reliable 150 to 300 million if you just pick level 25 luck of the gamblers and sell 1 every 4 days. works out to over a billion inf a month available to any character level 21+ who can solo 11 missions in 2 days at the minimum difficulty setting.

the ones I did find, I am not sure why they took a couple of powers...like grant invisibility for instance when it was build for solo farming. There are likely many things I don't understand the real use for in the game...so any advice you may have is appreciated.
See just above where I mentioned the "luck of the gambler"? This is a defense set and one of the pieces gives you a straight up 7.5% recharge bonus to every power on your character. You can slot up to 5 of them per character, but no more than 1 per defensive power. So a lot of people put one in combat jumping, one in Maneuvers, one in Weave, and then they run out of spots. But invisibility, stealth and phase can also hold them. Adding all five gives you almost 40% global recharge. By comparison Haste gives 70% and the two stack. On farming builds recharge is very important. The reason these are so expensive is that many people want up to 5 for each character. That is very high demand. =)

Just to give you some advice, head over to the Market Forum. there are lots of great posts that will help you out on the money side very fast and very easy. The first piece of advice I can give you is to only vendor your SOs. All salvage, and recipes you should list on the auction house, and check the recipes if they are worth crafting.

Very true. The "and run" causes bad feelings on a team. It is fine solo, it is not ok in a team scenario.

Other games have ways around it that work fine. Including bonuses based on positions. Our crit bonus from nearby teammates is a start in that direction.

But if the whole team is attacking, and you are running, that is bad. If the game mechanics encourage you to run when everyone else attacks, I suggest that is poor design.

Several of the AV killers are specifically built for infinite endurance.

One of the more famous ones was Iggy Kamikaze's DM/Invul scraper killing 9 AVs simultaneously with no inspirations and no temp powers. Iggy also has a kat/wp who solo'd the ITF. So endurance is not the limit, but it is something you have to build for. and as several have already posted, they have done it.

@ the thread in general, not Jibi in specific: Which gets to my real reason for posting: Temp powers.

You know, tossing out the occasional envenomed dagger will really hurt a GM. Several scrappers have been able to take Kraken solo with it, and I bet Deathsurge is do-able by a stalker.

@ the questions on Performance Shifter:
In general people call it .22 end/second. Which is mathematially accurate if you average over long periods of time. In other threads I have been told that if you only have one slot, putting it into Stamina is more effective than a level 50 Common end mod IO by something piddly like .01 end/second. But I am on a Mac and don't have mids to check.

@ the questions on Endurance options for brutes and scrappers vs stalkers:
I know that brute/scrapper DM is different than scrapper version specifically buildup is weaker than saturated souldrain and we don't have dark consumption for endurance. Are there any other sets where the attack gives something that stalkers lose out on?
  16. GavinRuneblade

    Breathe of Fire

I tried it a few times, but always respec out of it because the damage is so far behind due to the overly long animation. The area and recharge don't bother me, but in the time it takes to finish I can toss out firesword circle and almost finish dark obliteration both.

As a result, I have no use for it and now that I can get the APPs, I probably never will have a use for it in the future on any character.

Is that what the OP meant? I have no idea.
That would only make sense if no AT other than stalkers had access to stealth. Since every character has stealth via two pools (Super Speed and all powers in Concealment), and since literally every AT has access to stealth in either a primary or secondary power set, AND beyond that all characters have access to stealth IOs... It makes no sense at all.

Except for the stealth, stalkers have nothing that the other melee sets don't already have, and even with the stealth they have nothing at all that banes don't have (for instance) including executioner's strike for bonus damage from hidden, placate, etc.

So it is completely false from any possible way of looking at it.

3 Doms 0 melee powers. As far as I'm concerned, giving dominator and blasters melee powers was the single dumbest thing the devs have ever done and I am including the i13 PvP crap in this statement. Do scrappers and tanks have ranged attack secondaries? No. So why isn't there a pure ranged offense AT?

I made my own via make believe that the melee attacks don't exist.

Let me rephrase this bit to be... Making Doms and Blasters mixed melee/ranged and thereby having no option at all exist for an all rage offensive character was the bad Idea. I do think it is good to have the option for mixed melee/range. But just skipping the melee powers I am gimping myself, especially considering the higher damage modifier for melee on both blasters and dom. Frustrates me because I want to build an optimized character, but I also don't want to be forced to use melee to be optimal. I'd like that choice added.

@Streeja, I know there is a place for melee doms. I'm not saying there isn't. But I specifically want an all offense ranged character. Corrs and defenders are far behind blasters and doms in damage output on any build I've seen and half the powers aer buff/debuff so agin I have to gimp myself to build what I want. Controllers are the same, loaded with buff/debuff powers. VEATS and HEATS are both designed to mix it up between ranged and melee. There does not exist the option to play an all ranged assault character unless you deliberately ignore your highest damage attacks, or unless you play a mixed attack/buff-debuff. I want the equivalent of a scrapper with ranged attacks. Just one. either side. Hell give me even one dominator or blaster secondary with no melee and no PBAoE powers and I'll be happy. Just one. (Devices is dang close).

Not true at all. If they are identical in value then there is also the advantage to getting your income faster rather than slower. If you could get paid $150 on Tuesday and $150 on Friday, or $300 on Friday, which option would you take?

Also, if you have a bajillion alts, the random rolls are helpful because you can use a lot of what you roll saving you time and effort by removing the purchase step.
  21. I never had fun soloing with a defender. Dominators are my recommendation.

They are awesome aoe and single-target and I've rarely had as easy a time with EBs as I do on my dominators. Also, my Plant/Ice was the fastest road to 50 I've ever done. Although to be fair a good bit of that was pugging it.

Proceed to kill spawn with only 1 boss and move to next. If you're getting only 1 boss, odds are you're fighting at... x6? Maybe x7? I'm not positive on what spawns what at what level, so we'll go with that.

We'll assume you have powers slotted in a fashion that allows you to kill said spawn in 1 minute.

You move on to next spawn, and use this:

    ST = 1 power

And the boss is held. Because you have Domination up from the last fight.
Sort of. That's why I put in, "I don't care about combat time, I care about my time". It doesn't add damage, so with it or without it I have to launch the exact same amount of attacks to kill the enemy, +1 power (domination). Therefore, I go without. Wheter I need to activate it every time or every other time or every third spawn, it still means one power activated more than killing the spawn without it. Since activating it doesn't change my killing speed. It does impact survivability in some cases, and I often am lying dead on the ground thinking, you know I wonder if I'd have won if I used domination?

But when I'm alive it always comes down to "violence or buff?" and violence wins.

    Quote:
Nice, huh? Even if you are taking 90 seconds to move from one spawn to the next, you're still saving 1 power activation that can then be used to melt a face.
My holds all do damage so I'm adding 1 activation. Even if it is 1 per two or three spawns, it is still one more activation.

    Quote:
And using an AoE hold on a plant/ seems like such a terrific waste of potential damage. The confuse is the best part of plant/ imo. If you're not 50, your secondary plus pets will equate out to at least 20% of the total damage done for you to retain 80% of the xp and goodies (100% of the drops).
I was doing more than 20% way before 50 and still do after 50. Well slotted and procced Carrion Creeper is a grotesque amount of damage. With -res proc, assault, and poison ray the tarantula and tuey are also putting out very respectable damage. And I do toss confusion around. I consider confusion a damage power, because if I do it and nothing else people die. I have damage procs (2) in my AoE hold. If I could fit them into domination, I might consider using it more often =)

    Quote:
The fact that Domination lasts 90 seconds, *and* gives you loads of mez protection are what make this power a clear "should use all of the time" power in my book.
I use breakfrees for mez protection, which is a REALLY bad habit. =)

If it helps, I know there are many ways to bind domination to something you use all of the time, such as a "walk forward" button (w or up arrow by default). This is how I manage to remember to hit hasten on a few of my characters, because like you, I'm horrible at remembering to push long CD powers.
I had until recently a bug that prevented any macros or binds from working. I finally wiped and reinstaled from scratch and now macros that haven't worked for over a year magically work without me changing anything on them. So I might look into this. Binding it to my ST hold is probably a good one. That will make me feel like domination is an attack. =)
