I remember an old post (unless I'm hallucinating, which is possible, but I don't think so in this case) by BABs where he mentioned logging into his character for a rikti raid on galaxy city, making the trainer babs invisible and intangible, then helping people fight the rikti. And when he logged off, there were a load of petitions about the server causing the galaxy city trainer to crash and vanish.

Quote:The math wizzes on the scrapper forum mostly say that a damage proc outperforms the achilees heel in solo performance scenarios except for very very high damage builds. In teams, the achilees is prety much always better since everyone benefits. Its big problem is lethal damage which people often suggest addressing with Achilles' Heel procs (since NB can slot them in several powers). Problem there is then you can't reach some of the six-slot bonuses for defense.
There are of course exceptions and specifications and I can't really keep track of it all. But I try to keep it to 1 achilees where it fits, and the rest damage. -

Try plant/fire or earth/fire.
both recommended highly by others in the thread so just giving an extra vote. Plant and earth have the most controls. fire has the hurt. in combination you have exactly what you say you are looking for. -
Quote:8 ice/empath controllers who only took the tier 1 power from their primary. All have teleport, speed, medicine, and stealth as their pools. empath/psy defenders with only the tier 1 in /psy would be a possibility too.The majority of 'gimped' sets will eventualy still perform 'ok' when you put a bunch together.
Lets say you grab 8 Merc MM's, being the 'gimpest' of the sets, eventualy due their secondairy they will become pretty much unkillable and trash out a insane ammount of debuffs and buffs.
Even petless MM's eventualy can perform as 'weak corrupters', their strength from secondairy will do just fine.
Gimped doesnt mean you're that weak you cant do normal content, just doing it less then any other given set.
But if i have to make a choice, mixed set of psi/dev and AR/ice blasters with regen brute as tank.
(just plain SO's, no frankenslotted purple IO setups) -
Quote:Yup, I agree that one has a purpose. But the melee one not as much. The only notable exception, in my opinion, is the Gladiatior's Javelin proc. It's the only damage proc available for a "Ranged Damage" set outside of the purple Apocalypse proc (which, of course, you can only slot one of). If you ranged attacks don't have some secondary effect that has a damage proc in one of its sets, such as if you use Fire Blast, there's no non-purple damage proc you can use at all.
Combine that with the exotic damage type, and it helps explain why the Javelin proc is quite so expensive as it is. I certainly find the going prices not worth my while, but I can understand how they might have come about. -
I was farming rikti in the warzone on Saturday while waiting for a trial to start and got full prestige. Didn't run any boreas though.

There's a mission where the only enemies are PPs ad they all count for the badge credit, even the minion and lieutenant versions. Get a group together and you'll have the badge less than half-way through the mission.

Quote:Only if you pick a specific recipe. If you roll random it never worked this way for any source of recipes. But I think we all asked for it.Are you sure you're not thinking about the Merit vendor instead of the ticket vendor? that slider works as you describe.
Repeatedly.
They just refuse to implement it. -
Quote:I dunno if I'd say perfect substitutes. You'd have to be pretty dumb to pay this price as a PVE player, given that there are perfect substitutes from a pve perspective. The low supply impacts the price for pvp players yes, but there has to be a significant demand. Just because it has low supply does not mean it commands a high price... there are plenty of examples out there. [unless we accept the conspicuous consumption hypothesis]
Kinetic Combat is only chance for knockdown and it's abysmally low price compared to the rest of the set shows how useful/popular that is.
Touch of death only has a 15% chance to go off instead of 20% like all the others.
Mako is lethal and the highest resisted damage type in the game, especially at the end game.
Then you have hecatomb which is vastly superior, with a 33% chance to fire, increased damage and negative energy as its type.
So, it is an above average proc, I'd say the second best after hecatomb of the options. But it's not 300m better than Mako or touch of death. If it was priced comparable to mako/TOD, I would choose it every time I didn't need the defense bonus. But for 300m, I'll just look at it and say, "not today". -
@Kongar
Personally, I recommend Dark Melee, Electric Melee or Ninja Blade as primaries to start with. Martial Arts is also pretty solid. As everyone mentioned, ninjitsu is a good one to start as it is powerful, only available to stalkers, and has everything you might want (defenses, DDR, a self heal, a tier 9, and some fun toys also). I hear good things about the new Ice Armor, and changes to Energy. /SR is as good for stalkers as anyone else, and dirt cheap to build up as always. I don't recommend /regen because of the low HP cap on stalkers. /Willpower works a bit better for us if you wanted to go that route.
@pyrobeetle: Mad cow was pretty correct.
to get the most out of /nin you want to build for defense. It is also positional (melee/AoE/ranged) rather than typed (smash/lethal/energy/etc) so you want to focus on positional defenses.
Ninja Blade is often paired with /nin because of theme and Divine Avalanche. Two hits of DA will keep you softcapped to melee defense with some room to spare if you slot for it at all. So you only need to worry about getting ranged and aoe out of your sets giving you a lot more room to play with in your build. As an example, Mako's set gives a big ranged defense bonus for the 6th piece and the other bonuses along the way are very nice too.
MA is a hard hitting set, and it does smashing. Lethal and smashing are the two most resisted damage types but smashing significantly less than lethal so that's a good advantage. -
Quote:Solid advice. So is Zem's. I'll add that If you have the nemesis staff with it's longer than normal range, you'll find that stalkers make great pullers because placate can turn back one enemy if they have only aggro'd on you.And when you team and can do things fast...trust me...everyone you normaly play with will start trying to mimic you alot.....they wont do as well....but people will start asking for you specificaly....because you will be the Stalker..the one that can bypass pretty much everything and save the team when no one else can.

Quote:I'm here myself 100%. I have fun on all my characters from level 1 on. If I don't, I delete them. I don't power level, I play. And for me, life begins at 1.With beginners luck, the Gamestop 1-22 dual-aspect procs, and temp powers from DFB? Life begins at level 1 for me, pretty much. I used to try to plow past the lowbie levels as fast as possible... but I've definitely enjoyed going from 1-20 twice in a row since the release of Freedom (I'd have made more progress if I played more often
).
I'm about to start doing the First Ward content in earnest on them, and from the little I've already done on my BR/Traps, it's going to be damn good -
Quote:You can always PM one of the rednames and see. Maybe Zwillinger or Avatea? The reason that I ask is that I just finished getting my Supernova badge and running the Twinshot arc at level 16 and I have to say that...
Bravo! An introductory arc that I really, really enjoyed. The different arcs and the way everything came together was incredibly well done IMHO.
I know I asked David Nakamura about the art on the new underground iTrial and he said that Chris Gregory should get the credit. Lord that one is gorgeous.
thanks to your recommendation I'll give the twinshot arc a try later tonight when I finally get off work. -
Quote:In that case: Welcome back for the first time!Well... I played the game for about a month, then quit due to financial and time constraints. With as many updates and changes since then, I may as well be new.....
Aggie pretty much took care of you (she does that), but on the IO vs SO thing, I'll add a little more. IOs are definitely more powerful than SOs. I strongly recommend them for two reasons:
1. SOs expire on you when you level. Since 9 times out of 10 you level inside a mission, if you find all of your accuracy expires that can really suck all the fun out of a mission. This is the specific reason I have not used anything but IOs on any of my characters for the last two years.
2. SOs are limited by your origin. Stores often only sell one or two types. So you have to find the right store. Then they all have weird names. A few you can probably figure out what sort of bonus they give - Military Accuracy for instance is pretty obvious. But where would you slot an Oscillator Overthruster? IO's on the other hand, straight up tell you: endurance reduction. And every character can use them. No bothering with origins or accidentally going to the wrong store.
It's just way easier on IOs.
But if you need some quick guidance: Put 1 end reduction in all your attacks before you worry about the toggle powers. Attacks use way more endurance than most toggles. Don't put more than three of the same SO into a single power. "generic" attack slotting is 1 accuracy, 3 damage, 1 end reduction, and either a second accuracy or a recharge.
Builds might be cookie cutter on SOs, but if anyone tells you you're too weak to join thier team, they're egotistical, and you can find better playmates without trying too hard.
Without access to the market, you will have a really hard time affording IOs. So if you go that route, you will want to buy market access as well. -
Quote:I don't pay a lot of attention to exp. But a normal boss gives me 269 prestige. This dude gave 24k prestige. That is a really, really big difference.Did anyone else notice the boss at the end of the arcs gives a ton of exp? I play on +2 and he gave like half a level of exp to me at 30... I then ran it again at +4 which took a while (Popped a ton of reds and accuracy) and the boss at the end (The lost boss) gave me nearly a full level of exp...

Quote:I have seen two procs frmo chain induction when used by my elec brute. Thanks! Yeah, I remember now, the issue with Spines was never with Hide suppression, it was with breaking Placates.
Not an issue for me; I only use placate as a CC on a target I'm not attacking, and far more often I use it simply for an on-demand crit and couldn't care less about aggroing the NPC early.
Unrelated to the original topic, but concerning Chain Induction: does it check for IO procs only on the initial attack, or does it check every jump? (If it follows the "10-second rule" of most pseudopets, given CI's behavior I'd count that as effectively only checking on the initial attack.) -
Never really been sure on that point. Heh. The ways the alpha does and doesn't modify powers I don't fully understand. It's not 100% the same as dropping an enhancement of that type into each power because it works on some powers that don't have slots but not all (eg lore pets yes, vet attack powers no). and some powers that can't take the type of enhancement slotted into it, it will benefi (i forget the example, but I did see it mentioned somewhere).

Quote:Level +0 SO = 33.33%I'm quite different on that subject - I always buy SOs at 22, 27, and finally at 32 I start making vanilla IOs that will last me until 47, because somewhere around there they start being better than SOs.
Level +3 SO = 38.33%
Level 25 common IO = 32%
Level 30 common IO = 34.80% (Better than a +0 SO)
Level 35 common IO = 36.70%
Level 40 common IO = 38.6% (better than a +3 SO)
Level 18 Triple set IO = 34.7% (higher than a +0 SO)
Level 20 Triple set IO = 38.40% (higher than a +3 SO)
Level 21 Dual set IO = 33.6% (higher than a +0 SO)
Level 24 Dual set IO = 38.4% (higher than a +3 SO)
There aren't enough quad IOs to be relevant. But they are always better than SOs (except that one with a range mod since 9 times out of 10 you don't care about range and it's acting as a wimpy triple)
But I never wait for IOs. They are better than SOs starting at level 18 (when everyone else is on DOs) and they never expire.
Thanks to AE you can buy many of the yellow recipes for less than vendor prices and crafting and salvage (since yellows have no rare costs) are often less than the price of SOs (which get up to 48k each).
If you run AE yourself from time to time on lowbies, you can roll all the recipes you need to frankenslot pretty easily and turn a nice profit at the same time crafting and selling the others. -
Quote:It has always seemed unlikely. No one ever reverts - they move forward. A revamp that pulls in some of the better parts of pre-i13 and throws out 99.9% of post-i13 is possible. A revert is a waste of time to ask for.No snarky involved, but good luck waiting for a PvP zone reversion of pre-i13 play...its i21 now. I guess it could happen, just seems unlikely at this point.
Note that this in no way shape or form implies I think a revert would be a bad idea, it's just that it is never going to happen, so I feel energy is better spent pushing for something that may happen. -
Your understanding is the same as mine. You had said something about 50++. I mentioned you can do better. 50++ = 52. I showed three different ways to get a 53 equivalent, slightly better than a 52. Sorry if I wasn't clear enough (see my sig hehe).

Not that I'm proposing it is a good idea, but does anyone know if it would take the bonus from the nerve alpha slot and enhance the duration that way?

Quote:I would have ended up thinking of Suzaku Seikun from Fushigi Yugi sooner than Pheonix from Marvel. Now if you were psi/mental I'd have gone with marvel first.Note that I'm not asking for playstyle or game mechanical advice. I'm interested in how natural the concept of Fire/MM as a phoenix feels to others, and whether people will keep thinking of that Marvel character when they look at her powersets.
But I think coloring the effects to be radiant heat or calling them sonic are both very good ideas. -
I play at weird hours and it is nice to see that there is a reasonable amount of activity pretty much round the clock. I think we have people from all over there. I like it.
